Title: UKGTL Season 10 Great German Touring Challenge - Norisring - Jul 19
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 03, 2010, 04:40:52 PM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: 2x
Fuel consumption: 2x

Server: UKGTL GGTC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=257;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Is it me?  ::) ???  Can't get rid of understeer on those two left handers the second in particular.  I've tried 320, Escort and 914-6 - the setup I've been using in Le Mans Series which gets around th hairpin and all those right angle right turns at Macau, either spins when I put power on or understeers on the over run.  It handles totally different to what I've been use to all these weeks on GTLDK - lift off over steer and tuck the front in under power.

Help!

It's in Online Folders in the Norisring file and it's named "goldtop BMW320". If you're struggling with turn in at those hairpins run a reasonably long 1st gear and drop down to it just as you hit the apex; should carry round nicely.

Thanks - I've obviously got the wrong IP (?) somewhere.  I changed it for GTLDK and found lots of setup I recognised from UKGTL so I think I setup the same for UKGTL so I could access these setups.

Would some kind soul help me to remember where to find that file and the correct IP for UKGTL?

goldtop I still have a problem.  My .plr shows Host IP Address="195.149.21.94" but I when I put that into my host file as detailed in the GTLDK ref: I just get a blank folder with nothing in it.

Don't think you should be touching your .plr file Bill, just your host file.

Only used .plr file to find out IP - copied it and pasted into the host file to get online setups.

Didn't work. Now need help from gt to see what his host file has for IP.

Just checked my hosts file and there were 2 addresses. I had obviously been uploading my setups to the wrong one. Changed it as per the GTLDK thread, been onto our server and uploaded my setup. It should now be there for the rest of the world to marvel at see :)

Very strange. Would this account for gdb mismatches and Henry driving through walls on the practice server?

No, that's the way Henry always drives.  ;)

We think the mismatches are due to folk having the German release GTL that has the starforce protection removed. Fully legal, but seems to throw up the missmatch messages, thankfully not during races though.

Enjoyed that one despite too many spins at the hairpins costing me too many places  :-[

Then after pitting I managed to stuff it into a concrete wall so had to pit again  >:(

By this time I had been lapped at least six times so decided to forget racing but was determined to finish.

Looks like the GTLDK boys had a good night  :'(

Fun Race, if a little lonely in the second half. Had fun hassling Pelle for a few laps in the 1st stint, he seemed to be
on manual gears as he could catch on the straights, I can't drive Capri with man gears, it's hard enough not spinning on a downshift into 1st with auto. Got smacked into the wall on the 1st ? lap restarted at the back of the field.
Worked my way up slowly until I was chasing Phil. passed him and set off to chase the next car, had a messy spin
somewhere and lost some time. came out of pits 6th, then Phil pitted late, and he came out just as I was passing
the exit, jusssstttttt beat him to T1  8) then pulled out a gap and had no one else to race to the end.

That was another good time fellas. Henry out smarted and out drove the rest of us ;) Super fast and consistent usually gets the win and this time is no different :). I made too many little mistakes :P. That 320i is one of the trickiest things to drive at the limit. Henry and I had an incredible battle last year in the 320 at Spa67 where we would switch positions several times every lap for the whole race so I knew he would be tough with the 320. A well deserved win ;)

Another tough race on a pretty uninspiring track. My 2 pet hates are tracks that rely on hard braking zones and speed in and out of tight bends and fast complexes with walls (ok 3 pet hates), so this place was never going to be an enjoyable drive for me. Agreed the 320 might be quick, but this is the nightmare track for it.

I'd done my homework and practice, but could not get near my pb in quali or race. I was slow again off the line, but got lucky when a couple of drivers tangled in the right/left allowing me to regain 3rd. Was chased by Ade and we swapped places for most of the race, but were both caught and passed by the flying Henry 8) Navin meanwhile was well up the road with Paulo, who I guess had some pit problems which dropped him back.

Glad to come away with 3rd which slightly stretches my championship lead from Ade, but our team score definitely took a bit of a dent tonight :'(

Next time out the Nolife; another pet hate of mine ;)

I was a completely idiot last night, yesssssssssssssssssss!  :P

Nice first laps trading positions with Navin. When the heavy tire wear began to work on the CSL, Navin pulled away maybe 0.1 - 0.2 seconds per lap. Never mind, I thought, all I need is a consistent driving and a fast pit stop (usually is in GTL) and I might finish in the podium, that was the goal anyway...
320 turns better, CSL has better intermediate and top speed.

My tire wear at lap 30 was FL-6, FR-42, RL-39, RR-41...yikes... :o (I decided to change also the spare tire, because CSL has a mighty tire wear, or maybe my setups, or both?!)  ;D

So, I planned to went to my pit stop at lap 33, since lap 31, I was struggling with braking issues with rear tires blocking constantly. That's why I am so pissed, instead of braking 10 meters earlier than usual,
I continued to brake late, and on the very last hairpin I spun hitting the wall with the front bumper that fell down. Great! Just great you noob!  :D

Well then, pit stop with full fuel and all tire change (even the spare one) with also the bumper replacement selected and wait...and wait....and wait.... and the lads passing on the S/F again and again and 130 seconds lost in pits and back on track in last position with 3 laps down for Goldtop lead.

I have tried to drive like mad to recover as much as I could, Pelle gave me 3 scare moments (and hits) while we were battling and later, Pelle with one lap down was fighting and scaring me again.... ::) LOL

Anyway, after all it was fun. Next round is on the Nordschloooooooooooooooooooooooooooong boring rallye stage, which if I attend is just for a few points more.

Congrats Henry and podium, well done all.

Cheers

Congratulations to Henry for his win and to Navin and goldtop for completing the podium.  I had a terrible race, as I suspected, I just couldn't get my braking right for those 2 sharp left handers.  By the time I was 4 or perhaps it was 5 laps down, I decided I was in everbodies way despite my best efforts to get off line.  So I quit.

Really? Are all your menus in German? Unless they are, you're not using the German release.

I'm using Henry's GTLDK version of a non protected disk of GTL that came free with a German Magazine.  This operates straight off Windows 7 without any messing about with XP compatibility adjustments - it even runs at a higher frame rate than before.  I had a problem using Xd on the car I'm using in the GTLDK Le Mans Series, which neither Henry of the other driver of the same model had.  So I asked Henry for links to all his GTL updates utilities etc, which curred my problem

Bill.
