Title: UKGTL Season 10 Great German Touring Challenge - Sachsenring - Sep 6
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 03, 2010, 05:01:51 PM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

Cars allowed: BMW 320i Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_bmw320ie21g5), BMW CSL, Ford Capri RS 3100, Ford Escort RS 2000, Porsche 911 RSR, Porsche 914-6. Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: 2x
Fuel consumption: 2x

Server: UKGTL GGTC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=257;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: The pit lane and the start lights do not work at this circuit. You are advised to turn on your in-game countdown.

If you intend to race please download both skinpacks and install the BMW 320i even if you don't intend to drive it.

Sorry Tony can't make this one - taking Long Weekend (in lieu of Bank Holiday - us oldies Coach Tours avoid school holidays   8) ), also missing GTLDK Le Mans race.  :(

Guy's, there appears to be a problem with Sachsenring showing up on the server sometimes.

I've added Andestorp North so look for that and join as usual. Once loaded nudge on to next event which should be Sachsenring

Just tried and all was ok for me. There has been some changes in the bude lobby, so maybe check your hosts file. This might help.....

I have the same problem.
I removed www.gtl-server.net from my hosts file, and tried all three of these addresses in LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT:
gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de
87.106.79.180
91.121.7.48
It connects to a lobby, shows the track as MonzaGP, and when I try to join it says track not installed

I also removed the LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.txt completely, and still connected to the lobby and still couldn't connect to the ukgtl server.

edit: Now the server says Dijon Prenois but I still can't join.
I hope I can resolve this before next weeks race, as that is the one I really want to drive.

The 4-way hat on my G25 gear bit just would not work properly when I pitted - everything flickered and I couldn't even move up to the fuel amount, just jumped around randomly, so had to give up.  Just shows I've never tried to do a pitstop since I've had the thing!

Even if the race was hopeless due to no serious practice and a car that would not turn no matter what I did, was sort of nice to try and race again.  Been more than 3 months since I touched a race sim and last week got the itch and did a few GTR Evo public crashathons.  Even if it was carnage after a while I ceased to be tail-end charlie and re-learnt how to drive and started getting a bit quicker.  So perhaps more!

As Tony said, not a great track to come back to, and the Crapi definitely wasn't a nice car to drive round there, need something with some pointiness to it.  Or a setup that works, lol.

Syd/Hotkeys, so sorry that you guys missed the race. I believe this problem is only affecting some people and it's due to Altbeirbude changing their server or something. Some folk don't have to do anything and they join, others have to use a fix. I'll have a look at GTLDK for a fix, please watch this space.

EDIT: Make a backup of your existing files then try this

The Altbierbuden-Lobby has switched to a new server.
So you have to change your LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.txt in your main GTL folder.
remove the line

gtl-lobby.bierbuden.de

replace with

91.121.7.48

restart the game, you should then arrive at the correct lobby

Steve, welcome back. Remember it's like riding a bike  ;)

Already did that Tony, didn't make it work. As you can see on the screenshot I posted, I also changed it in the bat.file  -- no change :_ ((

Yeah, unfortunately me too. I can get to the lobby, problem was I couldn't join the server. It was showing as MonzaGP and when trying to join I was getting the track not installed error.
I'm at work now, and can't try anything else until tonight. I hope the server will be running so I can try to join.

No real practice time meant I was still learning the track in qual.
Got bored of understeering off into the gravel, and losing the back end as well, so after a few offs and
damage, gave up. Interesting track, but it did not suit the Capri for me, in awe of the pace Sqrtr and Ade
were managing.

I had spent plenty of time practising and decided to drive the CSL even though I knew I could be faster in the 320i. But on this circuit, with all those tight turns the 320i was just too risky.
So settled on the CSL and come race night I discover that I'm 7sec off the leaders pace. Oh great!
At the last minute I decide what the heck and swap over to the 320i. Naturally I spin the thing on the first lap and get stuck in the stickiest gravel trap ever. by the time I recover I'm way off the pack and settle down to another dull evening. Ho-hum.

Then suprise suprise. This circuit that I've been hating all through practise comes alive and I'm actually enjoying driving the 320i through all those demanding and different corners. By the end of the race I could actually have done another race cos I was loving this car and this track.

Just one of those things I guess. So a poor night in one aspect but a great one in another.

Had similar feelings to Tony about the 320 here. Couldn't get any consistency in my pre race practice so reverted to my favourite RSR for this one. Didn't even consider the Capri as I thought it would be a nightmare in all those turns, so amazed to see the pace up front by Ade and Sqter  8)

Hoped to hold on to them in my long first stint and benefit from some errors and a shorter fuel fill to make up towards the end. As it happened I made way too many mistakes myself and just didn't have the pace to threaten them although I did pop out of the pits right in front of Sqter and just behind Ade. Instead I had Phil just a few seconds behind me and keeping me under pressure throughout the race. My long strategy helped me to pull another few seconds at my pitstop, but I was relieved to jump on the podium at the end.
