Title: UKGTL Season 10 Great German Touring Challenge - Hockenheim (GP) 1999 - Oct 4
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 03, 2010, 05:11:08 PM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: 2x
Fuel consumption: 2x

Server: UKGTL GGTC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=257;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

If you intend to race please download both skinpacks and install the BMW 320i even if you don't intend to drive it.

A great track, but when I recently raced here in GTR2 it was a cutfest. Can we be assured that replays will be studied by moderators and offenders sent out into the forest to be eaten by the goblins  :)

Hmm. I  have always thought that a gentlemans agreement on putting wheels over kerbs is unworkable
If the real racers do it, then we should. If there are known cut warnings then we need to find them and drive
accordingly. If they are fair, as in more than 2 wheels up a kerb than is ok, the problem is when they are silly
like when you go off onto the grass on the outside and get a cut track!

This series is close to the DTM & running over curbs without DQ many times. Hockenheim 1999 invites to put 2 wheels over Curb  ;D
Try to see how many turns on this course, after Curb comes a small track with room for a wheel

The only place on this course where I can look really cheating, is in the first chikane, first to the right and left can be cheated  ???

Couldn't of said it better myself ;)

I think I'm more concerned about the chicane being missed altogether. IIRC some of the chicanes have a coned off tarmac area that was once part of the circuit before the chicane was introduced. If these areas are used then I will be investigating. However, I believe some of the chicanes have "additional" areas of tarmac which I believe may be used as they form "the track". The use of these additional areas of tarmac are in my view legitimate. I hope this helps?

If, after the race, you feel you witnessed a driver taking "liberties" please file a report and we will investigate on your behalf.

Hockenheim 1999 invites to put 2 wheels over Curb  ;D

2 wheels over the curb is in my book a perfectly legitimate and normal line through chicanes. More than 2 wheels over the curb is cutting and should be dealt with if it is persistent imho.

I've not tested this particular track for this yet, just that the GTR2 conversion I recently raced on in another league was a joke with some drivers cutting all chicanes and corners persistently. I don't believe this will be an issue with our members.

In my opinion it is a difficult decision & maybe I can avoid driving over the Curb, but it can go wrong without it is purposely & I have pressed the brakes too late  :'(
Not everyone has the same workout on this track. If you are mummer 10, run over Curb because you lack training...or is it cheating & must be punished  :-\

In order that there be a doubt - dear judge - I get no training

Replay posted and race results are above, however due to technical difficulties we are unable to update the league table.

Hopefully we should have it fixed soon.

Took the 32o as I was 2 secs a lap quicker in it than the Capri or CSL in pre prac, and it seemed easy to drive
In qual was a nightmare, I must have been pushing harder, but seemd to be braking at the same places, yet
I only managed one qual lap. IN the race spun every 3rd lap in the 1st chicane, and lost it a few times elsewhere, got a cut
track going off to  avoid someone, two more as I spun off. was struggling to get into corners, 1st the fronts would lock
then the back would spin, got bored with the masochism when I got a stop go having fallen off yet again.

League table now updated.

Fairly uneventful race. Chose the Porsche RSR for a change even though I knew it would get spanked by the Beemers and Capri's. And so it was. Also received a spanking from the other RSR's as well which just reinforces my theory that it can't just be driving ability that is holding me back but something on my PC.

The challenge for me was ensuring that the 320 would go 13 laps on the first stint and not the 12.7 laps that my xd was showing during testing  :o

I was lucky that I could tag onto the back of Sqter for the first few laps, meaning I could short shift but still run ok pace. Closed right up to him before my pitstop, but somehow he managed make 7 secs gap by the time he'd emerged from his pitstop. I made a couple of mistakes trying to push back and was left with dull last quarter of the race. Pelle was in 3rd about 12 secs ahead but he lost it on the final bend. I probably could have kept my pace and barged my way through as he recovered in front of me, but elected not to risk the wrath of the stewards.

Winning this championship is looking very tough for me now with the combined forces of the GTLDK league against me. Could do with the help of a couple of aliens to take points off Navin, failing that a bit of divine intervention ;D

Was a fun race all the way through. Had good pace early and was able to hang on to the super fast Pelle by keeping in his draft. Then made a couple of small mistakes which put me far enough back I lost Pelle's draft so I just kept falling back about 3/4 of a second per lap. I pitted after lap 12 and screwed up getting to the pit stall.. Had to back up 2 times and thought I was gonna lose 2nd place.. I decided not to take tires hoping that would help me not loose a spot. Little did I realize that it would vault me to 1st place after Pelle and Sqter made there stops. Sqter was only 5 seconds back after his stop and we see sawed that gap back and forth the rest of the race. At one point Sqter was just 3.5 seconds back and I was really worried that if he got close enough and started feeling some of my draft I'd be in big trouble with that Capri's big top end. I was just able to muster enough speed with the slightly worn tires to hold one for 1st :D It was great to see Sqter in 2nd  and Pelle in 3rd because if I have any chance at catching Goldtop I will need help like that. ;D And that's literally true.. If we finish the same way for the last 2 race's I will have 245 points and Goldtop will be at 242. I really don't think it will happen but it will be fun to try. And don't throw any bone's my way by holding back fellas.. No Ferrari BS in our leagues ;).. I must say ...At one point in the race when Pelle was leading I was tempted to say "I get to be Alonzo today, Pelle you Massa :P"..

All went well in practice/qualifying.  Engine bogged down at start and I lost lots of positions, started to catch up due to other peoples problems.  Got within sight of Tony and closed up on him under braking.  Then I got too ambitious and braked too late and spun and had to sit there facing the wrong way whilst I lost all those places again.

On lap 12 I was planning to pit but then got a couple of cut lap warnings - relaxed too much.  At the pits all the pit options were locked out leaving me to take the stop/go - luckily I had 1.3 laps of fuel.  Took it steady and made the pits with no problems.  Selected to refuel only - I swear I did I usually do this, anyway my dozy pit crew went and repaired everything so that was the end of any chance but finishing last on the road.  Disappointing.
