Title: UKGPL Season 19 (2010) Graduates Cup (67) - Nürburgring (Nordschleife) - May 9
Post by: vosblod on May 04, 2010, 05:58:23 PM +0100
Race four and onto the green hell. There's something Evil lurking at the top of the Works and me topping the Privates - anything can happen at this one, especially on PRO setting.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 09-05-2010
Time = 21:00 UK time
Track = Nurburgring
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 6)

Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=248;theme=6)
The track can be downloaded from : original papy track
Add-on’s available at : http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=523 (http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=523)

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=248&theme=6). Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Championship is split into two sub-divisions, namely Works and Privateers. The driver split will be;

WORKS drivers
Phil T
Evil
John R
Tim FMG
Steve Bird
Jethro

67 Patch: The 1.3 Release of the 67mod can be used.

NOTE: In the event of more then 19 entrants a second grid will be run for the Privateers on ukgpl.5. (ping myjamesonline.net) Instructions will be provided in the chatroom – please ensure you join the correct server, due to the way we import if you start the race on the wrong server your result will not count. If you can try to make sure you are in the chatroom by 8.50pm this will enable a decision without any delays to the start time.

Unless the Volcanic Ash cloud works some magic, I'll be missing this one.

Shame as I was actually looking forward to this having done lots and lots.................and lots of practise here earlier this year.

So will just have to wait for 65s  :(

This would be a nice "to have" feature for this particular board section, but is it possible to sort threads by race date, not start / post date?

Sometimes a race announcement is posted very early on and gets pushed down by newer posts before the actual event.

Not atm but at the top right of the ukgpl forums is a box headed 'forthcoming'. Those in white have no race post yet, those in green you can click on to go straight to the post for that race.

In case anyone else is using the Track Start Manager - don't forget to reset your start point back to the pits before the race. Suddenly appearing on track in front of someone who is 3/4 round their Nurby hotlap might not go down too well!

There's no need for this. The starting positions are controlled by the server, not the game clients.

Thanks, Tim, just noticed it only shows UKGPL forthcoming races when you're in the sub-forum, good stuff.

Yes, I thought that too Hristo but when I went on track on the practice server I was surprised to find that I joined 3/4 way round.

Aaargh! I've turned it off & I'm still joining 3/4 way round on the server! Anyone know how I can fix it?

It starts me in the pits offline but when I join the UKGPL server I'm starting just before the long straight at the end of the lap. (That's just during qually. I start on grid as normal for the race.)

I'm not using the Track Start Manager, but I started same place as Al. Whereabouts would this be located?

Indeed, when I use T7 it does start me late in the lap.  Nice to see.

So, apparently, you're not so weird after all, Al!!   :D

There are 20 pit stalls, each having their own coordinates. I suppose the server had some of them set at 3/4 distance of the lap and the rest were left at the default pit lane positions.

Crashed in qualy at the last bridge, to the amusement of everybody else. Crashed in the race at the same place. Looking good for 2nd place after evil had a spin, but lost it to Al, so 3rd could have been likely.

Had a horrible feeling with this car, it just wouldn't go where I wanted it to. I reckon I damaged my wheel sometime in this race, as it now turns further to the right than it should.

Somewhat disappointed with my performance in this race :-\. I was nowhere near Hristo's pace but thought I had a reasonable chance of 2nd or 3rd spot and things were looking good after the 1st lap.
Then, I lost concentration for a moment and barely clipped a hedge, but that appeared to have deranged the suspension or steering and I had a missile that had random directional inputs.

When Jethro and Al passed me that was not a spin   ::)..the car had just decided that it preffered a different direction to the one that I thought I was going in!!!

I recovered but a few wild corners later it all went totally bananas and I was over the fence and resting on my crash helmet. :'(

A steady race to finish for me, which seems to have got me to 4th! I enjoy Nurby, but shame there were not a few more racing.  Come on guys it's no that bad ;)

Congrats to H who was in a class of his own....again

WD to Al and Bartosz who made it a 2-3-4 for CHR :)

Sorry I missed it boys but I just got back from my 2 week business trip.  And this being Mother's Day I thought it would be in bad form to excuse myself from the family for a couple of hours mid-afternoon to go racing in Germany.

Never tackled this one, on my to do list, so picked the BRM as not expecting much.
Lasted a couple of laps and picked up 20 points, bonus as more then I expected.

I just love this track & it was one of the main reasons why I bought GPL in the first place. Those track designers were fiends though!

Decided to take it steady on lap 1 so dropped a place to a fast-starting Jethro but once things had warmed up a bit I pushed a little harder & sneaked past JW on the run down to Karussell after he snatched a bit too much of the verge. Third soon became second when I passed Clive who appeared to have gone blackberry-picking in the bushes. After that I braced myself for an onslaught of Waza-mobiles but both Clive & Jethro then disappeared from prib so I found myself in a lonely 2nd. I wasn't going to catch Hristo but I maintained my race pace just in case his Honda developed any gremlins plus I was sure I'd spin if I eased off. Had a few minor brushes with the foliage but no major dramas so was delighted to have a clean run to the flag.

Congrats to Hristo who was in a league of his own & also to my teammates Bartosz & Steve :) WD Bernie over in Privateers too.

I vote Nurby as the next Iron Man event ;)

A completely unexpected and suprise win , set the lotus up in "comfy" mode hoping just to stay on track ( which I did,  sometimes! )

Practise was a complete no! no! first outlap almost completed and I find a stationary Fulvio lurking beyond the crest of the little hump back bridge before the little carousel  :o

Back to pits and 2nd outlap is good, I have a front row nailed here , blasting down the straight , little lift ,under the bridge and,  bang! there goes my chance along with a front wheel .

The race was pretty good for me , I took it steady just hoping to finish really , but the opposition had other ideas and did there best to ruin my plan . Fulvio, Ronnie Peterson (is that really your name ) and Mike ? Hunt , in no particular order,  took it in turns crashing into each other and the scenery, they seemed really determined that  I should lead the race .

From lap 4 I reluctantly took over P1.  as Ronald and Fulvio were falling over themselves to help me gain the lead, who was I to refuse the offer  ;D

So there I stayed in spite of a minor last lap off damaging the steering,  the last 3rd of the final lap was a bit of a lottery with my wobbley lotus limping slowly to the line and me watching the mirrors more than the road for signs of Brabhams closing in for the kill . But I think they were still arguing about who should follow me home first .

Grats to all them that finished and consultations to them who didn't  :)

Cyas in Sweden

Congrats Bernie. As only my second league race I was trying not to ruin anyones elses race, honest. I thought some of the passing attempts on myself were hard but fair and have no complaints as I learn the driving styles of my fellow racers. I was just grateful to get the Brabham home with the dodgy steering from the earlier mayhem.

Finally I've got a good result :)

I started from 5 place. JW passed me on the start, but it was a long race, so I didn't care about it ;)

At T5 King Hiro had some problems and rejoined in front of me. His rejoin was ok, but in next turn he was struggling and to avoid hitting him I had to move right and drive into the wall. That was difficult place to rejoin, so I had to wait for others to pass me.

Steve quickly let me through(thanks mate), and I've started to chase drivers in front. Nurb is very difficult place to pass other driver(at least for me), so when I've caught up drivers in front I couldn't pass them. Afther some time Bob, and King Hiro made mistekes, and in front of me I had only Phil(Hristo and Al were to far in front to catch them).

On lap 3 when Phil and I were very close. At Karussel Phil made small mistake, because of that he lost lots of his corner speed and unfortunately I hit him. I'm very sorry about that Phil, but I just couldn't avoid you there.

Later I've made few small spins, my fastest lap, and on lap 5 I was going for my PB, but I had a scary spin so rest of the race was just cruising ;)

Congratulations to the winners and to all survivors ;)

Ronnie my replay shows you and Fulvio having quite a bit of warp , maybe it had a bad effect on the battle .  Not easy to overtake at Nurby even without Pro damage.

Made me feel good though, beating one of my hero's at Nurburgring  ;D doubt I would ever do that again  ;)

Congrats to Bernie on a fine win and to newcomers Ronnie and Hannah on their podium finishes putting some of us veterans to shame :-[

I'd just got back from a weekend away and a 300 mile drive so it was straight into the race with no practice. Guessing that I probably wouldn't last long, I opted for the BRM to reduce my tokens loss which as it turned out was a wise decision as I failed to complete a lap either in quali or the race. Fortunately I didn't cause anybody else any grief so it's on to the next race with a clear conscience.

Nothing much to say really. A low turn out, managed to put it on pole and take the lead on the start narrowly from Evil.

Then he managed to follow for some time and I was being careful with the heavier car, but then went for it when I felt comfortable. Once he dropped off, I just had to avoid mistakes and bring it home. I had a spin or two along the way, plus a collision with a fence, but the car withstood the impact.

Got a sub 8 minute lap at the end, but still far off my PB here. That has to be expected considering it was years when I last drove around the track in a Honda though.

Shame for Evil's and Jethro's retirement, I think we could've had 2 cars on the podium. SHE would be half-pleased!  ;D

Well done on the win Bernie! Great way to celebrate 200 races  8)
I'm currently stealing WiFi from the ferry on my return trip - it's a shame I missed the race but nurby is just awesome in real life  :notworthy:
Highlights for my 'race' include a 9:05 lap (held up while letting a train of 4 VERY fast cars through),
A 9:02 lap (held up at the end of the lap by a superbike that wouldn't move over ::) )
'Doing' the russian mafia (1x ferrari 360 and 2x porsche 911 turbo's none of whom willingly let my rusty Datsun past :hammer: )
And finally having to flash a new 911GT3-RS untill he moved over and leaving him for dead  ;D
Unfortunatly for me in real life, coming out of karusell on 2 wheels repeatedly can have nasty side effects on your suspension  :-[
Looking forward to tuesdays race though if I manage to stay awake for it ;)

Yes results are a bit strange so I've checked the server replay.

Flag dropped at 44 seconds into replay

Bob crashed at Wehreseifen on lap 2 at replay time 13:26 which is race time of 12:42
King Hiro crashed at Hohe Acht  on lap 2 at replay time 15:31 which is race time of 14:47
Evil crashed at Schwalbenschwanz on lap2 at replay time of 17:00 which is a race time of 16:16
Jethro crashed at Tiergarten on lap2 at replay time of 18:19 which is a race time of 17:35

But the results for these drivers are mixed up.  Don't know what has happened here.  Assume GPLRA couldn't decipher the replay properly?

Anyway manually amended the results.

Phil, I didn't think you would resort to retirement just to prove a point (about getting lapped).  ;D

Here's the updated tables following round 4 of Works & Privateers.

A perfect consistency score here would have been 120.

Privateers:

Works:

N.B. Since the 'ring is at least 4 times longer than the usual circuits I modified the consistency formula slightly to allow for 4 times the usual deviation (20 seconds instead of 5).
