Title: UKGTL Season 10 Readers Drives - Pukekohe - Jun 14
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 07, 2010, 11:25:34 AM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

"This event was run last season as a fun race and although the turnout was small it proved to be a very enjoyable fixture, so I thought it deserved another outing"

All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (48 laps = ~55mins)

Track: Pukekohe V1.1 Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg81636#post_pukekohe)
Cars allowed: Lotus Elan, Austin Healey, E-Type Jag,  AC Cobra (261kW only), Austin Healey Roadster Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_healey3000roadster). This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 (http://www.humyo.com/9240347/SimRacing.org.uk/UKGTL/Cars/SRou_UKGTL_Skins_1.8.0.0.exe) which will need to be installed prior to racing.

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKGTL RDs
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=253;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

Everyone wanting to race should download the Austin Healey Roadster even if they do not plan to drive it themselves.

The Cobra seems mightily quick around here. Having said that after a quick blast, I'm 1.5 secs quicker than I was last time in the Elan ???

Methinks this is a different track to the one we used in our last outing.

Indeed, it is a different rev of the track, looks the same to me, but I am also a lot faster than last time...
Had a gdb mismatch with myself earlier ( I was only one connected) so installed the 1.1 version as in the
header. Not tried the other cars yet, but mid 5's in Cobra was a surprise.

Sorry about my bad braking at the hairpin. The braking distance on a fuel heavy car is longer than a qually fueled one  ::)

I did a voluntary drive thru of shame

A good race, had Phil in sight in front or behindmost of the race.
Tony gave him a head start in the hairpin, I got spun into the barrier trying to let a lapper through
then it looked like a good chase to the finish when I got shunted off big styley this time far across the gravel
took me several seconds to realise which way the track was....
AH well, two night running getting shunted off, must be me.  ::)

Grats to Pod, ace pace there Tudor you apparently have been probed by aliens from New Zealand  :o

Quite a surprise that. Never raced the Cobra before and have always classed it in the tank category and therefore off limits for me. Amazed to find myself on pole and felt sure my race would end in a barrier.

An ok start, but Pelle had me into T1 and led for a few laps. I then had him down the inside at the end of the straight and led for a couple of laps until I was distracted and he retook me. I applied pressure for a few laps and he lost it going into the s/f straight. With a 7 or 8 sec lead I went into tyre preservation mode and when Pelle pitted, it left me an easy run to the line.

Pity about the turn out again for this event as it's a nice race track; nice to nab some points though while some of the fast guys are away ;)

Thanks again to Tony for organising and thanks all for an enjoyable race.

Yes folks it's my "Readers' Drives" next time; RSRs at Lime Rock. Just a little teeny bit concerned about Mike's avatar though ;D

Pukekohe Report: http://www.gt-legends.eu/UKGTL/Report/RDseries/Pukekohe/index.html (http://www.gt-legends.eu/UKGTL/Report/RDseries/Pukekohe/index.html)
@Tony: It was that I was looking for from Hockenheim  :D

Big Grats GT...I could do nothing & therefore chose a pit stop mid-race  :surrender:
...unfortunately did not benefit enough for me to reach you again & no, I had not run this bath before, but a fun experience  ::)

I got a shock when I came out of the pit...now down to a seventh place  :o It made the race fun, in countless battles on placements - sry Matt Rowe, here I was a little too hard, but the pedal was fastened...& it was down  ;)
Now lay GTLDK boys on the second, 3rd, & 4th place - Unfortunately, with me as the fourth - an incredible fight to be seen on replay.  ;D Grats Sqter, but it went completely wrong for Lembit  ???

Thanks to Tony & to all of you who were involved in 'Pukekohe Fun'  :thumbup1:

Couldn't quite match my PB in practice or qualifying but succeeded in the race.  Had a good start but was last on the road as usual.  Thanks for pitting Tony it certainly kept me honest for the rest of the race.  We managed to keep a fairly constant 10 to 14 secs between us as each put in a good/bad lap.  Then you started to catch me by a couple of secs/lap.  Unfortunately we didn't get a close battle as I let Syd's Cobra by on the start finish straight but miss judged how much his car would twitch at the chicane - I lifted and spun into the barrier allowing you to overtake and we had a few laps with you a few secs ahead but your Jag tyres were wearing more than my Elan and after we'd both let a Cobra through, you understeered and I got by - I tried not to "Jump you" by following the Cobra through.  In the latter stages of the race the Elan was so much faster than the other cars through the twisty bits, I had to lift at the end of the hairpin and then drive steadily through the last section to avoid catching them too quickly or hitting them if they lifted to correct a twitch.

A good nights drive - thanks Tony for organising the Series.

Bill

Yeah Bill I was definately watching those pitboards each lap to see how much time I'd gained/lost on you. Made a lonely race a bit more exciting.
