Title: UKGTL Season 10 Readers Drives - Lime Rock (no chicane) - Jun 28
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 07, 2010, 11:40:28 AM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

Cars allowed: Porsche 911 RSR. Skins from Season 10 Skin pack (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_ggt_skins) will be used so please download this before joining the race. Time of Day Setting: 07:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKGTL RDs
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=253;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

Thanks Gold Top, I somehow thought this was todays race. ::) ???.

When I made my new Win 7 installation I didn't install all the tracks - I've just put in each track as we  use them.  Hence my  problem.

Well that was a shame. Never felt comfortable in the Porsche 911, always ready for it to spin. But at Lime Rock it felt very sure footed and I was enjoying the drive. But then I hit a barrier and my pit stop cost me 3 laps and then I received a S/G for pit lane speeding so decided to call it a night.

Nice event Goldtop  :thumbup1:

Qualied in P2 behind the flying Sqter, but got all skewiff off the line and put it in the barriers....nice start :wetfish:

Fell off a couple of times on lap 1 trying to catch up, but then settled into my drive. Was up to 3rd by mid race and set about catching Paulo. I'd just caught him when he discoed right in front of me  :o  Shame as I think that would have been a nice battle to the end.

Congrats to Mike; a lonely race out front on his home track and a shame that so many crashed out  :(  Hope it wasn't the track/car combo.

Track is great - no problem, the choice of car was.  Have difficulty with 911 RSR, OK on single radius curves but these complex curves T1 for example just throw me completely.  Some nights I get it right and then lose it like last night - qual was a PB but just before the race I started going off in T1 and just couldn't sort it out in the race.  Hit Armco at speed and broke suspension.

I couldn't match Sqter and Goldtop's pace early on because I didn't realize I was driving the track like it is today in real life. This track is quite different. 1 - it is before it was repaved in 2008 so the concrete patches are in place and require a different entry point. 2 - the camber is different in the esses. 3. the location of the compression point in the downhill is too far into the turn. On lap 2 of the race I figured out things were different and threw out what I knew from the real track. Things worked better from then on.

Unfortunately, GT and Sqter both went off before the exit of turn 1 so I had nobody to play with once I found out how to drive the track. Still, Lime Rock is a very tough challenge even all by yourself. Like Bill said earlier, the complex turns and the crest of the uphill can catch you out at any moment. And we've got to survive 52 laps! It was still a tough race all on my own. I can't imagine how nail biting it would have been if I had an adversary to chase down.

Late in the race, I started to day dream and look at other things not the same with the real track. The tree lines are different, the space between the track and the armco is different, the new pavement at West Bend is missing, etc... I thought I was going to bin it at that point.

Congrats to Sqter and GT for their podium finishes and Sqter for fast laps. I feel gutted for PR as he surely would have landed on the pody if he didn't disco.
