Title: UKGTL Season 10 Readers Drives - Phillip Island - Aug 9
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on May 07, 2010, 12:56:00 PM +0100
In case you have been away from GTL, there have been GTL lobby problems. But.... it's all fixed now!

This is what you do to connect to the server:

1) Download & run this HOSTS HACK (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_hostshack)
2) Start GTL & select to the lobby
3) Register a new lobby account (I suggest the same name but with a blank email & password)
4) Log in with your new account & you should see a list of servers

:euro:

If this fix has not worked for you, then please check out this thread for more info/questions: https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=6869.msg119486#msg119486

But most importantly, do not suffer in silence (also, don't leave it till the Monday night ;)).

All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (40 laps = ~70mins)

Track: Phillip Island Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg81636#post_phillipisland)
Cars allowed: Ford Capri RS 3100. Skins from Season 10 Skin pack (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_ggt_skins) may be used so please download it before joining the race. This race will be run using the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 (http://www.humyo.com/9240347/SimRacing.org.uk/UKGTL/Cars/SRou_UKGTL_Skins_1.8.0.0.exe) which will need to be installed prior to racing.

Time of Day Setting: 16:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: UKGTL RDs
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R;group=253;theme=5)
(4) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

I've not finalised mine yet. I'll put it in the online folder when it's done, but I'm hardly a Capri expert.

Setups aside Bill. Biggest thing you need to remember about the Capri is to change down to 1st very very late
unless you intentionally want to do handbrake turns to get the nose round. Is best to bog down a bit in 2nd
sometimes.

Thanks phspok, I know some of the 4 speed gearbox cars are like that - it's a pain waiting until you nearly stop.  That's why I like the 320 it's stand on the brakes and bang, bang, bang, bang down the box as fast as the paddles will go - as long as it's on the straight.

Must admit I'd only had a few laps here in the Capri when I put it forward for inclusion this season. It's good fun and should be a great speedfest for us, but the track is surprisingly difficult to get right.

Struggling with setup atm. I like stiff springs but it's costing me in turn in. Anyway I've put my current setup online for anyone who wants to give it a try, but it's WIP and definitely won't be for everyone.

I don't know what's happening with these online setups. My hosts file setting now looks correct and I can see them in the online folder  ???

If anyone needs it pm your email and I'll return. Alternatively I always find the "animalaz" setups to be a good base and I think that's what mine derived from........

EDIT: No can't see yours  ??? Can you see "Capri by WT"?

Ouch  :o Great track, but I think I chose the wrong car for it. Those 2 tight right handers were horrible in the Capri and I guess spoilt what could have been a nice event. Sky was amazing though  8)

Congrats to Pelle and Sqter and those who finished.

A night best forgotten.  :'( Practice went OK then up came the next session screen and it then went all weird - I sat like a spare one at a wedding waiting for the start to happen.  Made all sorts of rude comments  ::) with no comment back so I quit.  I appeared to have some sort of lock up as the lobby was not loading properly,  ??? so I went back and started again in "Multiplayer", and after the 2nd attempt managed to join - half way through qualifying.  :(

Made a right pigs ear of the race, finding new places to go off.  :cursing: Tried to stay going to give Tony some entertainment  :fencing: after his pit stop but I guess one can only hit the tyres so many times before the car gives up.  Sorry mate.  >:(

My early race was good but that all changed when I failed to reduce my approach speed and hit the wall at the first hairpin. Blew a tyre so had to limp back to the pits where I decided to fix everything. That made me two laps down and effectively out of contention. But soldiered on hoping that others would drop. Bill retired so I guess he was having a worse night than me. Eventually caught De Martini who had obviously had damage and so the pair of us limped around till the end.
Probably won't be in a hurry to return to this track but enjoyed the Capri a lot. I used the longest gearing which really helped with the first gear at the hairpins.

Well done Pelle and all the pods. Shame about the small grid but it's that time of year when lucky folk have their hols.

No worries Bill, although I missed our "duels" (aka comedy of errors) Mr Martini was a very good Bill lite.

Anyone know what happened to Matt. He's having a miserable time at the mo.  :-[

Well..... COuld not get my new box to run GTL. the starforce kept screwing WIN7 boot, so last minute
plugged in old box and did some laps, fell off and bent something. should have pitted but I was more interested
in sorting the WIn7 issue so left.
Read some stuff about it now, dowloaded the GTL Lite Magazine thing from some kind person's site
copied files over the existing GTL install and it still kept doing the starforce boot thing, I must have
missed something, was tired and hassled from work, I'll play with it tommorow. And advice fromthose
who have GTL running under 7 would be appreciated. I think Bil got it working and possibly Henry?

A day full of surprises  ;D

Phillip Island, a track I have never tried. To my luck there was a Capri setup in Online Files...from Goldtop  Big Thx.
At this time I didn't know which cars to be run today until Tony joins the server & says: Capri Cup

Qual:
Drove qual with full tank - 37 laps - had not had time to test race setup until now, but worked amazingly well & get a 4th place on the starting. My plan now is to run the whole race home on one tank.

Race:
Perfect start, pass Goldtop & Dario before T1. Is now after Sqter & I listen how high he goes in the engine rev...& It was high, sweet music to my ears :walkman:
A truly exciting race from start to finish. On lap six I came in front...but late in the race came Sqter back & in front. Now I could not sleep or rest my arm, but squeeze the last fuel drops out of Sqter...& it was successful. Sqter run out two laps before the finish...but well you got it over the line...again got GTLDK 1-2 in UKGTL

I'm truly grateful for this (http://www.gtlegends.dk/GTLDK/images/smilies/trophy1.gif) & forgot the pain for a moment. Grats Sqter & Goldtop  :)
