Title: Farewell from LigelC
Post by: LigelC on May 08, 2010, 09:42:02 AM +0100
Hello all, I hope this is the place to put this........My name is Brian Clemo.......

My father and best mate Lawrence Clemo, known to the online racing fraternity as LigelC , sadly passed away last night after fighting the big 'C' valiantly for many months.

He loved all the racing , banter etc he had with all of you . We spent many hours watching replays and dissecting the action. His wish was that I let you know how much he enjoyed the time spent with you on the cyberspace 'grey stuff'.

So please raise a glass to the finest man I ever knew...........

Thank you all for helping him enjoy his passion for motorsport.

" LigelC returning to the pits , that's this race over............"

Very sorry to hear that Brian. I had a great battle with your dad in his last GTL race, at Portland, where he finished just two seconds behind me. He was a true gentleman driver and we also appreciated his work with cartoon art. We'll miss him. Condolences to you and your family.

Thanks for letting us know.

LigelC's last race report with us from Rouen:
I enjoyed last nights race even though I spent most of my time on my own at the back as the last one on the road.  Disappointed to see so many drop out (particularly those who usually keep me company at the rear of the grid)

Congratulations to Mike, Ian and PR and thanks to everyone else who turned out for the race.

Senior Dan terribly sorry had a right "Senior Moment" there.  :wetfish: I hate these 2 min to go starts,  :hammer: I get bored sitting watching how many cars we're waiting for, going up and down.   Forgot to select 1st gear and then when the lights turned to green, I had all revs/no go selected reverse.
Bill

You sure confused me at the start with this move Bill - I thought for a moment that I must have jumped the lights

Laurie

It was typical of him, always a gent Who represented what this group is about & it's a pleasure to have been racing him. Very sad I won't get another chance.

I am very sorry to hear of your sad loss Brian.  Laurie and I were more than racing colleagues fighting it out at the back of the field in both this and GB Sim Racing; in passing, we found out we were both ex RAF Halton Apprentices of the same generation and although we never knew each other our time at Halton overlapped by about 2 years.  You'll probably see my e-mail address as I sent him info and photos of my last entry reunion and a visit to a hanger at Kemble - previously RAF Kemble.  An ex Apprentice is Chief Engineer looking after a number of privately owned ex-RAF aircraft of our era which fly displays at various Air Shows.

I had been wondering if I should have been in touch again as he had been awol from a few recent events.

This is just the saddest news and my thoughts go out to you and all affected by his passing.

He loved his racing and we loved his company. Us back markers are a very select few and he will be missed.

I will personaly see to it that our next event is dedicated to his memory.

Regards

Wiltshire Tony

This is terribly sad news. As a fellow Shark, Lawrence showed all the qualities I value in sim-racing. He will be much missed. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time Brian.

Sad news.

I never actually raced with Laurie but often read his lighthearted banter on here and as he was a Team Shark member too, over at the team site as well.

I always thought he seemed too young for being an oldie.

Condolences to you and your family.

So sorry to hear the news Brian.

Laurie was great to have on the grid, but he also put plenty of smiles on our faces off it with his now infamous brand of driver Kartoon art - https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7609.msg136663#msg136663. He's almost been like part of the furniture since I started racing in this league and he'll really be missed.

Rest in peace mate.

P.s - if you ever fancy it Brian, there'll always be a spot on the grid here for you :)

Although I never had the pleasure of racing Laurie, it's always sad to hear of the passing of someone who shares our pastime and the comments already expressed suggest to me that Laurie was one of life's gentlemen.

Rest in peace.

At the request of some of you here I have created and dispatched a card of condolence to Lauries widow. I did edit some of your messages but only some and only a little. I hope that won't cause any bad feeling. If you would like to see the card I have a PDF of it here
http://www.humyo.com/9349539/LigelC.pdf?a=SpNGiAsokQU
It is shown in print mode so the front of the card is on the right and the back on the left. The inside is as shown on page 2.
