VDA Team is pleased to invite you to this Endurance event in the fantastic “Green Hell”  aboard of the glorious car of the past on 30 June 2010.

This race will be a head to head challenge between Ferrari 275 Speciale and Corvette L88 Coupè

We don't think the track needs to be presented. This is the Nordschleife. It's a track that brings back epic duels.  The famous commentator Gaetano Palmisano called it "chased by the devil"

Event Format:
- Teams of 4 drivers
- Every team must choose 2 Ferrari and 2 Corvette
- Free Pit Strategy

At the end of the race will be declared the winning team and the winners for each class according to the following scoring:
1st  Classified – 30
2nd Classified – 24
3rd  Classified – 20
4th  Classified – 17
5th  Classified – 14
6th  Classified – 12
7th  Classified – 10
8th  Classified – 8
9th  Classified – 6
10th Classified – 5
11th Classified – 4
12th  Classified – 3
13th  Classified – 2
14th  Classified – 1

This score is splitted for each class, then Ferrari and Corvette will compete for two different classifications.  
Moreover, points will be assigned only to the drivers whom cut the checkered flag.

Rules: those of common sense and those reported by F.I.P.V
- During the Official qualifying and race sessions the use of the chat  is forbidden. However, limit its use to avoid  discomfort to others drivers, and especially do not  use the chat leaving the car on the track. TS usage is strongly raccomended.
- In case you have to leave your playseat for a long time, please abandon the server, because you could block eventual votes for the advancement of sessions.
- If you're engaged in a hotlap but a driver behind you comes much faster, you are obliged to let him pass, trying not to ruin his lap. At the same time the oncoming driver must use headlights to signal his urgency to overtake. If you already know you're not making a good lap, avoid the use of lights or disturb the other drivers.
- If you are coming back on track after a mistake, pay obsessive attention returning on track
- In the case of spin, rollover or accident avoid to stand in the middle of the track, press the ESC key quickly avoiding to harm whoever comes.
- During training sessions avoid as much as possible to hold the server in race session especially in 4/5 users during the busiest hours In this way you will not allow the access those who want to train; server will be restarted every time the Race direction deems necessary to stop any abuse regarding this.
- At the end of your race, wait until all drivers have finished their race, avoiding to disturb them using the chat.

I wouldn't dare miss the RSR shoot out at Lime Rock, particularly as it's one of my Reader's Drives selections ;)

As much as I love these events, I think my skills around the Nords in the vette or the fezza would be a liability to any team :D

Oh my! I didn't even look to see if there was a competing event. Lime Rock is my home track. I can't miss Porsches at Lime Rock. That would be a travesty. Has that cloning thing been perfected yet?

If you're interested to this event, I can try to change the date to Wednesday 30 June... I thought you used to race GTL on Tuesday, while I noticed you use to race on Monday now :(... Let me know if wednesday is better than Monday, but I can't assure nothing about an eventual date shift.
However you're always welcome if you want to do some laps in our server to have some practice!

Unfortunately I think you'll have to Download the track... It's not the tourist version, it's the complete version and you'll need it to avoid to be booted as possible cheat. It's the version used by FFSCA in their 24h of Nordschleife the previous year.


I'm glad about your interest in this race, I wait some other days to see if you become 4 to complete the team, or if you have no troubles and no other UK people can make this one, we can make a mixed VDA & UK P&G Team, even I hope you'll reach to complete your team. However, I'll sign up you in our topic, and I'll wait for some people adding in this event. Mike Miller is even interested? Ian, Legzy or someone else?!?
About the car I remember that you have to choose 2 Vettes and 2 Ferrari, you can even choose it 2 mins before start, the important is that in your team 2 drives a Vette, and the other 2 run with Fezza! I stay tuned on this topic to see what happens.

While I've always been annoyed at the fact that the Ferrari 275 Special's engine reliability seems unrealistic and would welcome the orginal mod designers to make an adjustment, I must ask you to please create an easy install/uninstall for this vehicle update. SROUK will continue to utilize the original vehicle specifications for races hosted here. Mismatches will occur if vehicle specification files do not match the those on the server. Would you or someone at VDA be able to make an easy install/uninstall?

We're following this way Mike.
We're asking to an Italian beta tester of P&G, what it's better to change to strenghten the engine. Probably it will need only to change the RPM limit at which the 275 start to damage its engine, now it's 7900, we wil put it at 8300 i think. To modifiy it, it's enough to make a backup copy of the file "275GTB_LM.eng" that you find in this folder C:\Programmi\PnG2\GameData\Teams\Power&Glory\GT Over 2 Liter\Ferrari 275 GTB, before of installing the new file with the same name that we will release for this event. If some of you it's able to do an installer I can pass him the file, and he can provide it for you, but it's quite simple to modify this file even opening it with a writing program like notepad, and modify this string you'll find nearly the end of the file: "LifetimeEngineRPM=(7900, 80)   // (base engine speed for lifetime, range where lifetime is halved)". If you've got the right value you won't have any trouble to join the server.
However, when we'll make this change I'll pass you the correct file to join our server.

Dave, I tried to understand how to make an installer... but without success...
I will post some instructions when we'll release the patch. It won't be difficult anyway... I'm sure everyone can make an update without an installer :) If you need the original files, just ask me and I'll provide the download link. If you want to make an installer for the UK guys I would be happy aswell  :angel:

You don't need to register in VDA forum, it's only needed the name of your team and of your drivers (or their nick), and I'll report it for you on our forum.
At the moment guys, I would be glad to invite 2 different teams of UK & DK people, but I don't know if there will be some space for both teams. My first idea was that of 1 team for SImracing.org. guys, but probably there will be another place even for your team.
We have to wait some confirmation til Sunday from other 2 italian teams. I pray you to wait til the weekend Henry, than I'll confirm if your place is free. Sorry about that, but i should be more clear in my explanations, even more I didn't think there would be an interest of 2 teams... I will do everything possible to let you participate at the event :)

Love the track.

I have tried a similar looking Corvette with GTL at Nord (forgive my classic car ignorance) but, it was a real dog to drive. If the one in this race is similar, I could drive it with practise but, would prefer the other car if it is easier.  ;D

Mark, it seems that the UK team is alredy completed for the moment. If you want I guess you to sign up as a reserve. If someone of the actual owner won't race for any reason... you'll be able to substitute him!
It's only necessary a bit of practice, because it's impossible to race without a good knowledge of the track. If you want to have some test, download the Nordschleife track, and come in VDA server to turn a bit sometimes. I'll send you the server password soon.

I think that cause of the high degree of difficulty, we would reduce so much the car damage... or it will be difficult to see the checkered flag...  after all it's a fun event!

At the moment we didn't make changes on the files, but we have to do some tests yet. Anyone of you has the program "WinRar" installed on his PC?!? I was thinking about a simple solution... Making 2 self-extracting archives: the first with the modified files. and the second with the original P&G files. In that way with 20 seconds you can re-install the original files when you want.

well, drove the 275 yesterday and have to say: the engine overheating problem isn't a drama. there are enough straights, where the engine is cooling down.

THERE'S AN IMPORTANT UPDATE TO JOIN OUR SERVER!

Some people was experiencing some disconnection issues after 10 mins in the server (it happened only in Nordschleife), and seems that  was caused by the old version of the track. So, we have changed the track version, bringing it to v1.1.

Both files are self-extracting, so it's enough to put the route of your main P&G folder, and then install the file.

Talking about the race, I didn't see any time of you (UKP&G or GTLDK) on our live timing, apart from Henry of GTLDK. Are you still interested in this race?!? It would be good for me to see some other people's laptimes, because as I said before you won't learn the Nordschleife in 2 laps, or in one evening... If you're not interested or you have no time to train, please tell it to me in advance, because I had some request from other teams, and I dislike the idea of a not full server for this event.
Please let me know something about this, and please start to try in our server, because if you experience some troubles the race day, it will be more difficult to solve it. In particular, I ask you to make this attempt, to see if with the new track you have some disconnection issue, but if you don't try in our server, you'll never know it :(

I do know the circuit but, that tells me only one thing; I need lots of practise to make sure I can get to the end of this race. ;D

I just finished a race last night at the Green Hell with Race2Play. Seems like it is a slightly different version of the track so hopefully that won't throw me off. I had plenty of pace in hand, but like I often do here, the armco reached out and bit me leaving me with a severly wounded car. I had to crab it a little over 3 laps to bring it home.

I noticed that too - the fast right hand kink a few corners before Karusell is almost like the GPL version - i.e. far too tight and I'm repeatedly clobbering the barriers there as I'm not used to it  :D

I am not familiar with this weather system. Is that the NoGrip Advanced Weather system? Is there a chance of rain? That could really make things interesting. ;D

NAW means New Advanced Weather, and it's an utility created by the Italian guys of SimLeague.net & Lisgo.

"The idea of creating fluctuating weather arose because of a ‘bug’ in GTR2 that does not allow for weather
to evolve during the various race sessions. GTR2 generates weather conditions at the onset of a session, but
this weather then remains static for the entire session, including a race.
With the assistance of the communities around SimLeague and Lisgo, and with the aid of a meteorologist who
helped me refine the algorithms, I have created NAW, a programme that will accurately alter the weather patterns
of each session in GTR2, in a realistic way.

NAW acts on the ‘weather.txt’ file, a file that is generated by GTR2 in which all the sessions prior to
the race are stored. The meteorological conditions, and temperatures generated by NAW, are directly influenced
in a ‘simul-real’ way by the climate (or track) chosen, the month of the year chosen, and the time of day.

the ‘.mbd’ folder within the application: This file is both visible, and modifiable, by anyone."

can they simulate rain on 1 half of the track and bright sunny skies on the other? isn't that the way it works in the Eifle mountains?

Unfortunately not Mike. When it starts to rain, it will rain in every part of the circuit with the same intensity. Same thing happens when it stops. It's only dinamic, because it can start and stop more than one time during a race, forcing people to change their strategy during a race.

Certainly was when I was there in May  ::)
Can't complain though as the other 7 runs were all totally dry  ;D (helps having a car that needs over half an hour to cool between runs  :hammer:)

atm only 3 off us can join your server. hope to solve at least one of the problems.

I took some exploritory turns (notice I didn't say laps) last night in both the Ferrari and the Vette. The Ferrari is sweet around here and the Vette feels like a lumbering pig. I'm still crashing too much to compare lap times, but I gotta imagine the Ferrari is going to be quicker. Still, with a team challenge, that doesn't really matter. Once I figure out the limits, my plan is just to keep it on the island. I have nothing to report of on tire wear or fuel usage at the moment.

I'm thinking that the rears will need changing minimum - They go quite slidey by about the 4th lap, enough to slow your laptimes at least  :)

Havn't had a go in the Fezza's yet but they do seem the faster cars  :yes:

I'm trying to join the server with the blue Roger Penske vette, but I fail to get in the server each time. I can't load Bonni. I recently reinstalled P&G because I was having a similar issue with UK P&G server. I was able to connect to the VDA server with both the Roger Penske vette and the Ferrari 275 Special last night. I was by myself. Any ideas?

I noticed that too Henry. Fortunately, I planned to start practice early and was good on time, but my computer still has issues with P&G. I'm reinstalling GTR2 and then P&G now.

Guys, it was definitely my fault for the early start. When H@l noticed it to me, I felt like a real idiot... I'm terribly disappointed about that  :( :( :( :( Don't know what to say other then repeating myself I'm a real idiot.

I think that any other word it's useless to describe my stupidity, and I deeply apologize especially with ade & Mike that didn't manage to join our server  :( :(. Hope that the guys who managed to join the race at least enjoyed it a bit.

It was an awesome event and I would take part again any day.

I sadly ended my race early by 'doing a H@L' as they say. This is a new one. I came in for my pit at the end of lap 5, was getting fuel and managed to hit the esc key while putting my drink back on the table behind my keyboard. :-[ :-X :'(

I was having a great race with Ross McFarlen and a few others all the way up to the pit. I was in a 4 car train at the end of lap 4. 8)

No. I never made it on, but the VDA guys helped diagnose my problem with joining the server. They spent close to an hour with me on the problem. Many, many thanks to you guys for helping me. It turns out my computer/copy of P&G does not agree with [team] tags. The "[" character seems to throw things out of whack for my machine. Manteos will ask his mates to not use the "[" character in tomorrow evening's race at Charade so hopefully I can join that one. I'll need to reformat my machine over the weekend to see if that will cure the problem for good.

That's odd, maybe US keyboards have that character mapped to another key or something. Good spot though whoever hit apon that fix. Not your usual "I can't get racing" problem.

I'm glad to read H@l words about his race especially after my newbie mistakes in organizing this event. At least someone of you enjoyed the race, and it's good to know :). I had a great fun during the first lap with T. Muttram and some other people all over the track... then I caught a Ferrari stucked in the middle of the corner orizontal to the track, and my race finished in that way... It happens :(

I wanto to thank all of you for your attendance to the race!!! It was a difficult heat to see the checkered flag in the Green Hell, and only 9 brave guys managed to see it!!! I was really happy to see a full server starting grid, and that was such a victory to confirm that this glorious track is so loved by SimRacers in general. Personally is my favourite track for endurances, and every time I used to race in it was an amazing race!
I hope to see some of you in other VDA fun events we are going to do soon with GTR2 during July. I'll post more details during these days, so stay tuned  guys :)
