Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(5) P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function. You may go as fast as you like in the pits, but please exercise caution. Penalties will be handed out for causing contact in the pit lane. Use your best judgement when making your pitstop during the race.

Westwood will be great tank track. There are still a bunch of turns at Charade, but the bigger power will help. I would be most afraid of the Alfa's.

Legzy would feel persecuted if I didn't ask.  ;D

Please could could we at least know the track?

Or am I just being ignored because its written in big letters somewhere in this forum that I haven't found yet?

Or on the dark side of Alpha Centauri?

If there is no race, can you tell me?

So I can start diplomatic domestic negotiations to race on Tuesday with Gamers Crib instead.

I'm really sorry for the delay's guys. Work has got me really bogged down since returning from vacation. I'm going to be testing Shelby Daytona's at Sebring. I haven't confirmed this venue yet, but it should work out ok. I'll be working on the rest of this series today as well. Again, many appologies for the delays.

Not quite as bad as I had thought, since I was expecting the 5 mile hell hole that I so hated in GPL!

I believe we have done Westwood in the early early days of P&G here and they were tanks being raced. I recall the Daytona not having any brakes!

First impressions of Sebring are:

a)  Couldn't they have painted something another colour besides light-blue or white?  Makes it damn difficult to see where you are.

b)  Those who say Silverstone is flat and featureless are in for a nasty shock!

c)  Just how are you supposed to get out of the pits without climbing over a hotdog stall and driving through someone's Winnebago!!!!!

a) There's a red and white tent by the paddock exit

b) It's an airforce base

Judging by my first few forrays, I think I'll be quicker running round. ::)

How come we're talking about Sebring () in a Charade race thread? ???

Funny, I did a Charade race only a month ago I'm sure... but I just can't think of the track layout :-\ (that's what age does to ya )

Cos the correct thread didn't exist when the discussion started.   :P

But if it helps I'll copy my "Sebring comments" across and we can start again.  ;D

So just what is the point of starting at 1600 hrs?

How many blind corners does that generate?

I changed it to 13:00 to make it easier Clive. I'll also calculate the # of laps to make 60 minutes tomorrow night.

Mike,
be aware that while Clive doesn't like racing in different lighting conditions & is not shy about voicing that opinion repeatedly... There are plenty of drivers that do enjoy it occasionally.

LOL

I don't mind if you want to put a piece of frosted glass in front of your monitor for races Chris.

I just want to be able to see the corners.

Or are we just trying to make the cars smack into each other?

But thanks Mike, much appreciated.

Couldn't agree more. Once in a while it's good to have a bit of sunlight glinting through the trees/buildings. Even a night race once in a series is something that could be considered.

I'm not convinced by PnG rain.

It buggers up visibility and gives my graphics card a heart attack but the cars seem far too well behaved and have way too much grip.

Would be good to see how/if the headlamps deal with it.

we had a gtr2 race in those conditions some six months back... I think general opinion was it was a step too far.

Well, avoiding the obvious response, I think that:-

should just about cover it!  ;D

I too like to mix it up a bit with the lighting. Every race at 16:00 is too much though. I was tempted to run Sebring at 7AM, but the run down the front stretch is completely blind for the entire front stretch.

another big fan of alternate timed lighting here ! Some of the P&G / GTL races look spellbinding when done in dusk/sunsetting lighting conditions  8)

stop being a stick in the mud Clive !  Race drivers should be able to race in all lighting and weather conditions  ;)

Nah!

Poor light and adverse weather conditions are just ways of ruining a good race.  :P

UKPnG requires the learning of a new track each week.  I just about have time to do that on a bone dry track that I can see.  If we get to race day and find that the heavens have opened and the setting sun is slanting straight into our eyes at the end of the main straight it just makes the whole thing a lottery.  In my view it isn't necessary and since we can avoid it we should.

This race format also requires me to sort out which of the cars I can drive to best affect as well.  Do I have to do this for all possible weather conditions?

Also, as I've said in a previous post, the PnG rain messes up visibility but to my way of thinking does not have a big enough impact on grip.  If it isn't accurately modelled why bother?  Perhaps some of our real current car racing protagonists could comment but based on my kart racing experience it isn't even close.

That means Marco will take 2 or 3 laps by me for this one  ;D ;D ;D
Finally is arrived the slowest VDA ever, I'd like to put you in a your own group: VDA Newbie Team  :P :P
Obviously I'm joking Marco, hope you'll have a lot of fun with P&G (especially when you'll take at least 3-4 seconds by me  ;D ;D)

Hope to see a full grid for Charade, it will be a great race I guess. To give you an idea, me and Ayrton last night were on a 2.19.5 as race pace with the TR4 (19.0 was my best). Some other laptimes set by you?
Cu soon guys :)

Karts run with slicks don't they? Png cars are mostly using treaded tyres which work rather well in the rain. If you want to try PnG slicks in the wet then take a 911 RSR out in the wet on the dry tyres and see how you get on  :o

Today's karts have rain tyres, moulded in a rubber that is so soft that it vanishes in about two laps if the track dries.  The "wets" available to international level kart racing apparently give as much grip in the wet as the slicks used for domestic racing in the dry.

But we are looking at the 60's here.  I just don't believe the level of grip. With some of the cars it makes hardly any difference.

In his working life he was a cable wiz for the BBC's outside broadcast unit. He was able to attend all the sport that the BBC covered including Motor racing.

Nice bloke who provided me with a lot of usefull kit when we were setting up our first home. He'll be missed.

Hope to be back racing full time real soon.

Sorry about the name changes Goldtop. After an hour of testing last night, it seems as if my server joining troubles center around use of the "[" and "]" characters in player names. The folks from VDA have agreed to change their names for this race and I will reformat my machine over the weekend in hopes of something got out of alignment along the way and we can go back to our regularly scheduled program with the standard names. I hope this doesn't create too many problems with posting the results.

Thank you again guys for working with me last night to identify the problem and for changing your player name for the race.

Finally we know which was Mike's issue with [ ] characters. It took a long time to understand it, but at least we found the solution!

There will be some troubles for drivers to match their name for race standings on your forum? DO I have to say them to change something in their "Driver Details" section of their forum profile? Or it will upadte auomatically with their new names after the race?
Thank you :)

No need to change any details in profiles Manteos. If the VDA team could post their driver names here (as some have done already) it will be easy to match them up for the results.

Ok Goldtop, I'll report you the names of whom join frequently your events:

Heck, It's like an Italian Rosetta stone..... ;D
I guess I'd better do the same:

Martin Rowe - Phspok
Matt_R - Matt Rowe
Phspok - Martin Rowe
Matt_Rowe - Phspok

Unless there's an "R" in the month in which case Phspok = Phspok
I love these creative titles  ;)

Hoping to do this one. having had a premature halt to our attempt to follow a very old Italian road
known as "Ermine Street" (Lack of maps etc.) Didn't see any of them Romins anyway.

Oh, only tried the TR4 so far, I think i was managing 24/25s in it with race fuel.

Let me give my excuses  :P
Never have time to practice any car in any track, therefore, I never know which car is better for each track,,
as I only put the games running when there is a night racing, I forget always that in GTR we have to switch the engine off to add fuel. On tonight's race, when I went to pits 1st time there was an Alfa already there in my spot  ::) so I had to get back on track and do another lap before pit in again. Lost weeks in the process and when I was standing there at last, I was stupid enough to forget to cut the engine and everybody passing by. I quit. Lack of time again, is getting my joy away. I hope I will return on Monday with a better mood.
 :-\

By the way Mike, the combos are great.  :)

Pfew, Way too hot to race... Temps above 30 degrees aren't funny  :sweatdrop:

I had a fast start but was hit from behind and made a 360 just after 180 turn .  Car had some problems with suspension but it was do-able .
There was some pretty close racing for a few laps with 4 or 5 cars but I could not hold on after some concentration problems.

Screwed up my pit-stop by forgetting to turn the repairs / tyres-switch off and spend 100 secs in Pit :-(

After that the car felt better but was driving last with a gap over 1 minute to the next one.
Lost the last bit of concentration and ruined the car in a wall .

Nice track , nice cars, afwul pace from my side .

See you all next week.

Was 8th, then lost it in a downhill chicane. ::) Then a big chase with Hotkeys and Matt 'till the end, brilliant! :) I think this was the most fun P&G race up until now. 8)

Loved my race in the midpack with superior machinery.
Wondering if the fast guys think the same about their restricted cars.
Overtaking is hard because slowboats like me are able to create a gap on the straights and create a TrulliTrain.

Congrats to the podium.

Great racing with several people, was following Stig when someone nudged him into my path, I tapped his
rear quarter, so waited for him to recover, err which seemd to take some doing  ???
Went from 6th to last waiting, so set about making places, was doing well up to stops, faffed around turning
tyres off and fuel up, (I should set up xd or whwtver to help with that) came out behind Stig and found TT somewhere, as they were battling I caught up, passed TT when he went wobbly, could't quite catch Stig
traded places a couple fo times with TT, some door banging at the bottom of the hill, looked like we both
waited

wow, best race so far  ;D Had a bit of bad luck in the downhill turn on lap one and was set back to 23 rd, ( you shouldn't have waited for me Matt, I had to do 2 acress of ploughing to get out and didn't want to enter the raceline untill everybody had passed )  but I had great fun fighting my way back, and then having some great infights with Matt and Truetom. Gee... truetom, I had to use every trick from the defensive-driving book to keep you behind me, and the still you managed to stress me into making a mistake. Saw you sliding off on the by the downhil part and felt REAlLY  sorry for you  ;) ;).

It seems that my old DFP is giving up the ghost. Already during practice upshifting was erratic sometimes it went from 1st straight to 4th. Annoying but not dangerous. Towards the end of lap 1 with high revs instead of shifting up it went down from 3rd to 1st which blew the engine.
No excuses left now not to get that G27 which currently sells for around 225 quid.  ;D

Replacing the microswitches always cured mine Eddie.  And they only cost pence at Maplin.

Where are you?  I have a couple of switches left over since moving on to a G25.

Was getting a bit lost with the elite as the default setup is not how you expect it to handle, however the Abarth was fun and easy to drive so even though i was at the back i actually enjoyed it. Didnt realise the track was the one we'd run in UKGTR a while ago which is a nice flowing track which helped also.

Think i'll be nack for more 8)

One of the most enjoyable PnG races so far for me. Had a very close battle with Ade for most of it as we traded positions lap after lap in our tinas. We both pitted late, me managing to eek out a few extra laps, but I think Ade had trouble with his stop, leaving me clear for the remaining few laps.

My penance: looks like I'll have to learn the TR4 for Crystal Palace ::)

Thinking about it, you might want to stay in the Arbarth for that rat run. ::)

This race was very funny.
Great struggles with Manteos and Casadei. Some contact, but fortunately without consequences.
When I was first, I tried to impose my pace.
Fortunately, the pit stop I had no problems and after I thought the finish line without taking unnecessary risks

Congratulations to my friend Manteos to Goldtop for third place and all the others.
I am glad that Mike was able to join without problems.

See you at the next race.

Just want to quickly congratulate Mike on yet another fantastic race he's sorted. I think you're achieving what I was aiming for but never quite managed. Keep up the good work, because I'm enjoying PnG even more as a passenger! Two great series, well done.

On to the race, brilliant track that I'd only done once before in a Sunday ukgtr2 race (feel free to join us in future *cough*)... love this group of cars too! Couldn't believe how low down the grid I was & then lost a couple more places as I showed caution where others showed less :-\. Still, I got all those places & more back on lap one alone as people came together early on.

I had a few tussles with a few people and did well from those. Found myself about 3 secs behind Clive who I hunted down over a few laps, then was glued to his rear bumper for four laps. Finally he went a fraction long under braking at a hairpin & I had my chance to slip through. Think that's the 1st time I've ever managed to catch/pass Clive 8). Then chased the guys ahead, but made my stop as early as possible, lap 9 I think... Before rejoining 2nd last after a quite unslick fumble with the clipboard ::)

Enjoyed coming back through the pack, particularly with Spanner who made me work for my pass, but my Jnr's extra grunt over his Abarth saw me past safely on a straight. By the time Clive had come out the pits he was a good 5-7 seconds up the road ::) & a couple of drivers where between us even grrr. Thoroughly enjoyed the agony of tracking & catching him again, while Ade was slashing my buffer to him from behind! It all came to a head with one mistake from Clive, who was no doubt feeling some strong pressure, he went slightly wide & both me & Ade slipped through! (only my second ever pass on Clive ;D)

Then had about 4/5 laps to keep that cad Ade behind. It was easy :sweatdrop: & I glided home in a comfortable remarkable (for me) 5th! lol

Not a bad race for me, when I was on the track. Made a complete horlicks of my pitstop again, was so intent on cancelling the repairs, I forgot to cancel the tyre changing, so ended up with 4 new tyres & an extra 15-20s on my stop.

First half of the race was fun chasing TT & Clive, although I got involved with a melee at the downhill LHer on lap 1 & I think I bumped Mike into a spin trying to avoid some Alfas, if I did, very sorry Mike. Second half of the race as a bit lonely with a big gap ahead & behind. At least I will have a faster car for CPalace. :D

Congrats to Ayrton, Manteos & Goldie.

As Legzy has said, that was a good race.

I made a good start, climbing to about 4th by the time the dust had settled after T2.  It all started to come unravelled at the left-hander after that glorious blast down the hill on lap one.

Tudor and I made contact which resulted in both of us losing places.  Thanks for waiting Tudor but I still haven’t looked at the replay to see what sort of overlap you may have had and thus what room I should have allowed you.

We didn’t lose too much ground, just a place or two, but at the subsequent 180-right I now found myself following a TR4.  I was too close at mid-corner and tapped him into a half spin and then gave him another clout to set him back on his way.  This also cost me a place or so and thus I was back to around my starting position.

I’m not “at home” in these gutless wonders and as Legzy has reported, he tracked me down and passed me whilst I was getting my eye in.  Then he vanished into the pits quite early.

I had a great scrap with TT in his Cortina, as he has said, with a degree of paint and hub cap exchange.  He also headed for the pits before I was ready to.  That left Geoffers, who had hounded our scrap in his mini.

I stopped on lap 16 and whilst it was my best effort to date, the stop was still a mess.  It seems to take me as long to tell the clipboard not to change the tyres as it would take to have them swapped in the first place.  I had received a last minute setup donation from Stig, and whilst I still preferred my own it was just about as quick using the harder tyres.  He also had some slightly different gear ratios that I nicked.

I assumed that the use of the harder tyres was to enable them not to be changed and so eventually persuaded the pit crew to leave them alone.  This was a mistake.

When I emerged from the pits, in front of Legzy, I could soon see that I was going to be in bother.  My fronts had had it and on a couple of corners I was painfully slow.  Legzy and Ade reeled me in and then, as Legzy said, the pressure must have got to me.  I still don’t know how but I’m putting it down to brain fade.

Just as I was digging in for a stalwart defence of 5th, I found myself wide in T2 and still in 4th gear.  As reported, Legzy and Ade needed no second invitation.  I began to come to terms with the state of my tyres and was not losing them but never managed to mount a serious attack.

Grats to the podium and well done to Legzy and Ade.  Also thanks to TT for some great racing.

It seems to take me as long to tell the clipboard not to change the tyres as it would take to have them swapped in the first place.

But, but, but, but.... Captain Clive ( and others with simular problems ) don't you know, that you can prefix your pit instructions to the clipboard during the race, if you use that add-on program that shows tyre temps and tyrewear?
You can even change the amount of litres you want to refuel !
I preset the pit-instructionon on the track during the 2 min before racestart. Just use your keyboard arrows to move down to front tyres/ rear tyres, then click left two times ... and woops, it will say no change. You can change it back during the race, if your on a long straight, but that´s VERY stressing and not recommendable, unless you've practiced beforehand.

So, if you turn off the engine and roll the last 20 yards before the stopping point, and if your car is undamaged, you can hit the enter key the very second the clippord turns up on the screen.

I can´t remeber the name off that little add-on, but it's mentioned with a download lionk in another thread in this forum. Does anybody remember which one ?

Clive, you can toggle the tyre/brake/engine wear graphic to show another screen  ::). On my PC the keystroke that does this is the backslash key. On the new screen you can setup prior to pitstops the things you want done.
