Hi all,

Reading other threads on peoples problems rejoining quali, reserves, full timers etc, I thought I'd give you advance notice that I will unfortunately be unable to race this one. I'm upgrading to ADSL and have to wait for the package to be set up.
(ISDN just didn't cut it on a large-grid race and I'm not going to ruin anyone elses race as a result!)

I'm down as a full timer but will be back with a vengance in the third round.

Thanks guys and I look forward to seeing the replay, Magny is a great course!

I reckon this was one of my most enjoyable races from Season 1 including a great tussle with Mike Wrightson where I inevitably came off 2nd best :)

Down to 1:42.2 last night which I was pretty pleased with though no doubt I'll get nowhere near that in Q tonight!

And in case i am using the wrong password  is it possible i get the right one send in time?
If so...THX in advance!

I find Magny is just like that - could spend a week getting the laptimes down and then return after a few days and be nowhere again - having to start over so to speak.

Even though its not a well liked track, imo its a real challenge and all the time is made (for me anyway) by pure balls out late braking, and turning in while braking, especially for the second faster chicane. Its a track that rewards commitment in general.
btw I find the best braking pressure setting in the GT3 for this track is  85%; this allows  a bit more chance of turning while braking without locking up.

Sounds like a rant - sry didn't mean it to be.
See you later....

What I like most about Magny is that unexperienced drivers use brakes in totally inappropriate moments. The key to this track is IMHO not to brake in 85% of the cases your brain tells you to :D My current PB is 1.40.814 and I just hope to find place on grid tonight as I am nGT reserve.

I would add to that you wanna move your brake bias even further back in the GT3 at Magny especially and reduce the coast differential so that your wheels can spin at different speeds under braking (more helpful when you are turning and slowing down which happens a lot at Magny Cours) and go easy on the brakes except into the tight hairpin at the end of the long straight where you want to slam on the anchors.

85% seems very low, i know who to outbrake though now in my Morgan.  ;)

Can't believe I threw away 6th place. 1, maybe 2 laps to go and the car pushed on for the chicane at the end of the lap. Caught the kerb on the left and just gently understeered off head on into the advertising barriers. The game said suspension damagehad  put me out, perhaps it broke running the kerb. Couldn't continue because I had no engine. Shame the pit boys won't tell me any more  ;)

Such a shame after Shark had supplied me with a Morgan setup to die for. Not only did I set a new NGT PB, I got into the 42's when on Sunday in the 911 I couldn't beat a 46  :-\ Even did a 43 in the race. Only good thing to come out of tonight is I now have a negative NGT rank

Terrible time  :(.....ferking trackir kept freaking out on me....it just locked onto tight left direction, did it in the chicance before finish straight, middle of estoril curves :o and flat out leading upto s bends >:( :o  Threw the bloody thing across the room in a fit of rage >:(

My rear tyres were shot and had aero damage from the massive resulting spins and could hardly hold it through any curves after that so retired as it wasnt worth a pitstop anyway.

Had a crap pair of races in this championship so far  :'(

Rotten luck Picnic :-\

I was in need of a smooth race after the fiasco of Barcelona.... didn't happen!

Qualified 6th and pretty pleased but had two subsequent faster laps at 0.5 secs up bought to an end by clumsy rejoins from other drivers. Tad annoying, but that qually session felt really hectic to me, don't know about anyone else.

Thinsg got even better witha  tap from behind into the big braking zone of lap one. Span off and rejoined in about 15th. At the end of the very same lap the f***ing invisible cones got me and span the car round. Got back into it in 18th then. 12 places lost on lap one- is that a record?!

Tried to have a consistent race after that and picked up places here and there, almost enjoyed the overtaking challenge, but not quite  ;)

Congrats to Pedro on a nice move on me very late on in teh race- I didn't have the rear tyres to hold you off any longer :)

Finished 9th. Bit fed up.

Sorry mate that record goes to be tonight, 6th - 22nd in one lap, bloody invisible bollards.

Anyway what a disaster.
Qualed in 10th, not to bad for me, never been any good with the NGT cars.
Race started well, soon found myself up to 6th and cruising around nicely.
Then hit the invisible bollard on the s/f straight, puncture.  Oh just great I get to do a whole lap with a flat.
Rejoined after pit in 22nd and last place.
Managed to crawl back up to 13th to score a massive 2 team points, oh well.
Not very offten you do a whole race without a spin at Magny and end up 13th, real shame a top 6 finish should have been there for the taking tonight.
Onto the next event and hopefully a bit more luck.

Started 4th with what I thought was a stunning time in the Morgan (at least i was extremely pleased with it), finished 4th, some interesting stuff inbetween and I had to pull off a difficult move on Locutus with 1 lap to go to get my 4th back after I span too many times and at one point from a dodgy track rejoin from another driver.

Going to try and get 10 straight 4th positions for the season.

Well done Mo, you were awesome today, stunning pace.

That was a mixed bag for me.

Great quali saw me 8th in the Mos, my best ever :)

Race started OK, but I managed to tangle with Rich_A putting him into a spin (sorry bud).

Couple of laps after I got passed at Adelaide then spun on the acceleration, just managed to avoid Picnic.

Then set about maintaining 8th place, got into 7th after someone dropped, then feck me, about 5 laps from the end, just cought Picnic after he spun, all set for a ding-dong and Mrs Wil comes in the study and taps my shoulder. I nearly jumped outta my skin and left the track in the process :(

Finished up 8th I think, still not bad for a slow coach like me.

They're a total killer eh? I remember a few peoples races got ruined last season at Magny because of them. Oh.... and this season too. Once someone hits them it's like a mini lottery every lap :-\

And lol Willier. Well done on the finish- your best yet in sprints? My other half is under strict instructions that, unless the house is on fire, I'm not to be disturbed  ;)

Qualified 3th. Finished 7th. Terrible shame as I really hoped to score some major points for Team Shark (and for myself as well :D)

Half the distance, my pit-crew called me in for refuel. I though "what the..." because I was sure of proper setup. In the pits it turned out, that my fuel tank got punctured - probably on an invisible pole. Loaded my tank full and rejoined - of course my third position turned into 13th :( So, with nothing to loose I have started my chase. With lots of load on-board it was difficult at first, but then I have managed to gain some positions. Sorry Pops if I was too aggressive while overtaking, but you have opened an obvious overtaking opportunity to me and there was no time for rubbing your rear bumper any more :D Btw. Magny-Course is great if comes to overtaking. If you are brave enough, every single corner is an opportunity!

Shark - that "driver" rejoining like a blind grandma was me :( Sorry man I should have seen you! No excuse here.

I must admin, that due to my pit-stop adventure, second half of the race was one of the best ever! My motivation was incredibly high. Guess next Tuesday I will start from back of the grid :D

Terrible qualifying... couldn't seem to put a good clean lap in.  Ran in to a rogue bollard  ??? on the straight coming up to the hairpin in quali... managed to miss them in the race!

Seemed to be going ok in the race and made up a few positions from my duff quali place, until I pushed a little too much through the exit of the second chicane and came out of it backwards and in to the wall.  The ensuing pit stop had my crew deciding (in their wisdom ) that I needed another 30 laps of fuel!  ::)

The highlight of my race though was following the finish when Enz13 seemed to manage a triple somersault over the gravel trap!  ;D

Hope there weren't any full timer's who didn't get in... I waited until 8:42'ish before joining.

GT3RS is a difficult car but for first time there in it 43.1 not bad! Made an ok move on you Wilies and left you room on exit of hairpin... then you braked way too late and only my car stopped you from going wide. Maybe in frustration but your frustration is unfounded cause I got a great run out of T2, which is not something I can't do every time!! I'll remember!!

Had a few laps with some guys although no way you'll have any grip over ten laps locking up all the time.. 1m43.1 in race which beat my quali time three seconds to 1m40 ouch. I'll stick with this car but it's a bit confusing to drive, certainly got to use engine braking alot.

Shark - that "driver" rejoining like a blind grandma was me :( Sorry man I should have seen you! No excuse here.

That corner is a nightmare for rejoining as the person rejoining can neither glance left or look behind to tell if someone is coming. You have to do it purely on sound. There isn't really any way to safely come back at that corner, however, I think coming back on slower is the best ploy. It was a bit of a panic from me seeing you come back on so fast that caused myself to spin (that and just got distracted by another spinning (I think that was Mark)) which is unusual for me normally hard to unsettle in a race.

Rejoining is a difficult issue, but generally the best bet is to come on slower and as gradually as you can especially in situations where you simply have no visuals on where other cars are.

I hope I didn't cause any problems with my rejoins, tried to be as good as I could, but I know I span more times than I usually do. Don't recall any particularly close call, I do find Magny Cours seems to get more off-line marbles than any other track (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it  ;))

P.S. That wasn't the incident I was REALLY annoyed about. But I wont go into that one in public.

Was doing consistant 1:43 laps in practise offline and was hoping for a good finish, but Magny is a nightmare when trying to follow a car closely and I was having to tip-toe around. My race didn't last long. I braked lightly and early into T2 to avoid getting too close to the car in front and went into a vicious spin. Flew through the sand trap and lost the engine.  :(

Great pole time and win by Mo.

Man thats a hairy place to drive with a full turn out. Qual 5th finished 5th. Had a bit of a moment on lap 1 at hairpin as I braked early and seemed 3 cars tried to pass inside and outside, Got squeezed by PaulW and some1 else with result of Paul spinning out. Midway through race came up on Codsworth who may have been trying to let me pass inside but all he did was move into my line as I had lined up to pass outside, result was a bump into his rear. Only other exciting event was a little tussle with shark on last couple of laps, went defensive on the hairpin to keep him behind but he pulled a gr8 manoeuvre couple of corners later that I didn't think needed a defensive line, I know for future though, nice move bud, deserved the place.

Qualified 7th, finished 3rd.  :) Well done, Penguins, 2nd and 3rd (sorry, don't know about others).

Had luck as I came forward mostly 'cause of other racers mistakes. Place 1 and 2 was too far and when I was 3rd Shark was chasing me. I saw you couldn't close on the straights, so I was just careful not to make a mistake under braking. I was ready to block you if necessary but then you had some other problems and I cruised to the end. All in all it was an uneventful race.

I was kicking myself when I span whilst chasing you, was turning into a good fight and I definately thought i'd get you somewhere as long as I could get your slipstream down the straights then I've got some good moves up my sleave at Magny Cours.

Only other exciting event was a little tussle with shark on last couple of laps, went defensive on the hairpin to keep him behind but he pulled a gr8 manoeuvre couple of corners later that I didn't think needed a defensive line, I know for future though, nice move bud, deserved the place.

I must check that one out on the replay cause I even suprised myself, but I was soo determined at that point to get the 4th I thought I deserved back and I knew I could do it especially after our fun tussle into the hairpin just before where you went defensive and I went round the outside I thought I might have you there but it's such a longer way round that no it wasn't even close, so coming up to that left hander with the marbles on the outside, there's plenty of grip on the inside for an outbrake and when you broke slightly earlier than I would normally I knew I could do a real nice move up the inside. Good driving from you and very enjoyable.

Almost wept not being able to join in...(DELIVER MY BROADBAND NOW YOU MONKEY SERVICE PROVIDERS!)

Congrats to Mo on a simply amazing quali time :o and a great pole to finish win!

Mind you, I see Mr. Matjaz wasn't about so maybe there'll be something special in Enna between yez both.

Can't wait even though I hate those Enna kerbs!

Cods - my aim is to beat your time (just a bit of friendly rivalry there  :D)

I finally seem to have come into some good form - mainly due to having so much free time lately.
I dont mean to sound cheesy but I was really shocked by my qual lap and by my race pace - both were PBs for me, the qual time by almost a second.
I think I might even have given Matjaz a run for his money! Where were ya Mat?   ;)

Anyway the race went perfectly for me - I managed to avoid all the invisible cones and stayed on track except for 2 scary moments.Firstly down at Adelaide I stuck the thing into neutral while braking and went straight on into the gravel and then hit a rejoining GT3 just before the final chicane.

For the first half of the race I could see JonM_UK in my mirrors always at the same distance, no matter how much I pushed you were always there; I see from JonM's post that he hit one of the cones - pity Jon as I think you may have had better tyres( on the 360) than me towards the end so it could have been interesting.

Anyway onto the joys of Enna with its huge kerbs and ridiculous car killing chicanes......

Great night for me (in perspective of course!). Quallied 18th with a personal best time. Managed to avoid 2 tangling cars in first couple of laps, then after that a pretty straight forward drive. Still made 3 or 4 unforced errors resulting in spins, but am managing to control these better now, so dont end up flying thru the gravel and slamming into the wall!! So not losing as many places as used to. Managed to climb up to 11th, and with 6 or 7 laps to go and 30 seconds in front of next car, decided to drive fairly conservatively and conserve my best ever UKGTR finish. Woohoo  8)

Congrats to Mo and the rest of the Crawlers, some good points there.

Cheers
