Oh dear. Was reasonably pleased with 5th on the grid but I managed to crash out with a schoolboy error on lap 1. Was so busy concentrating on the back of Syd's car that I missed my braking point at the end of the first long straight :wetfish: Oh well, can't complain as this is my first DNF in 66's this season. Congratulations to the winner & podium - whoever they may be.

Oh dear too!

This race just about sums up the season with yet another DNF for yet another new reason.

Had a good start and was running 4th behind king Hiro with Clive snapping at my heels.  Clive made a pass at the hairpin before the main straight and then I managed to slip back past by the end of the straight going into the left hander.  I'm quite sure we weren't even close and I didn't see what happened to him as he disappeared off the prib radar.

I had to drive to my limit to stay with Hiro who was very quick down the straights and I was only slightly quicker on the slower twisty sections,

Next victim was H who also suddenly disappeared, so with a podium finish looking good and a possible 2nd I tried to come up with a plan to beat King Hiro when BANG!!!

Monitor, amp and pc all died together.

Out of the silence a voice from upstairs emerges, 'all i did was plug the lamp in on the dressing table and sparks came out of the plug'.  Culprit turned out to be a loose screw from the redundant earth pin, which must have bridged earth to live in the plug and thrown the trip. :-(

Next season should be blinding..

Congrats to Tim and King Hiro for driving superbly and to the eventual winner and rest of podium.

Couldn't qually here as I was just too sloppy and ended up in 4th with a possible 1:53.4 showing in prib  ::)

But......

I got a demon start and was right up into 2nd and H's gearbox by T2  ;D, which is more or less where I remained for a lot of the early race.
Once into my stride I found that H wasn't actually much faster than me anywhere barring the sharp hairpin before the massive straight. I couldn't launch out of that to save my life whereas H was fantastic at it.
Luckily my Pilfered BRM motor gave my enough power to catch up with (and on a few occaisions pass) Hristo before the end of the straight.
From about lap 4 I started trying to scrap as I noticed I had both the straightline speed advantage, and the speed advantage (normally) through the fast esses section - Hristo could then equal me from there to the above mentioned hairpin where he had the clear advantage again.
We changed possitions several times and managed to stay clean but then on the (9th?) lap Hristo just vanished from behind while braking up the steep hill. I don't know if it was screen freeze or he hit the escape key for some reason but he just vanished. Don't think it was me as I think I braked in the normal place and he was far enough back to avoid me  ??? Big pity as it was shaping up to be a monstrous battle  :fencing:

After that my laptimes (and engine temps!) dropped a bit as I was still very sloppy from having had H's draft as a safety net, and this allowed Tom to start gaining on me.
Luckily he started to go slower as I started to tidy my driving up and go faster again, resulting in a relatively safe win for me  :)

Big hand to Tom for a solid drive to 2nd and Fulvio for an equally solid drive to the final podium spot  8)

Also well done all finishers, and bad luck to the people with technical faults - I know there are a few of you  :(

Have just noticed the championship tables - looks like the final race is going to determine the top 4 positions at the very least!  :o  And I'm now in 1st (that's also a first in this championship I think!)  ;D

Blimey Dave, when it's not your night it just isn't your night :cursing:.  Almost as bizarre as Bernie's cat episode when it presented him with a live mouse while he was racing LOL.

what can I do but laugh. Not that my race was anything to laugh about but it was really a lot going on. And at the end the most of it was in my favor.

I did not have any speed, 9th fastest race lap, and then I went off and were bounced back on the track just to end Steve`s race, I am sorry Steve. I just managed to get out of the way when Syd came along and when Phil come I made sure he could pass as well. But by that time I was back on track so I followed him, passed him and, well I would have liked to say left him behind but that was not the case until he some laps later made a mistake and left my gearbox alone for the rest of the race.

Thanks to missed braking points, screen freezes,  short circuits (oh dear) and strange errors I managed to get 5th in the end. But now I have to consider taking basic driving lessons, I mean Tim was almost two and a half seconds faster in the same car on the same track, I bow to the master.

So, Congrats to Tim, and both King Hiro and Fulvio for their best result of the season, and as they say, to all finishers.

Göran

IT CERTAINLY WAS A NIGHT FOR THE GREMLINS!!!

I was reasonably happy with this circuit and the setup for the baby Eagle and expected to be at the very least competitive.

I started qually on full race fuel to get myself "dialled in", but for the first few laps I felt like I was driving on slicks and just could not get the feel.
I had just mananged a safe lap to clock a 1:54 and was going for a fast lap when I got the dreaded screen freeze. :-\

Still about 12 mins of qually left so I had to crash the computer to get out of GPL and restart...no worries, should only take a couple of minutes ............3..............4...............5................6....????........7!!!! ..........what the hell is going on!!  hard disk running at warp speed??? and GPL refuses to boot... Then I get the GPL splash screen for Riverside...ah! good here we go.........and it sticks...nothing happening??!! ctrl-alt-del to find out what is running.
Bloody Skype has decided to download and install and update!!!!  :o I had to stop about 6 processes involved in that and clear all the other crap going on before GPL would launch.
Finally rejoined and timer said 20 secs left!!!!
No time for a qually lap on low fuel so just had time to exit pits and check things...only to find that wheel had lost all calibration???!!! quit to pits ...re-calibrate wheel and bounce onto grid with a few secs to spare............still seething. :taz:
I tried to use the ancient Waza mind meld calming technique to focus my spritual energies upon the race, but for the first few laps I was over driving. Then I settled it down ( a little) and passed a few spinners to latch onto Dave's tail. I managed a pass at the hairpin but was aware of Dave's extra grunt dragging him alongside on the straight..so I took a wide line around the left hander to leave him room....a bit too wide!!!, in fact waaay too wide and I clipped one of those concrete hay bales where I left a wheel...short stressful race over!!!e

Grats to Tim and the podium, Silverstone is going to be interesting and very tight I think ::)

As I said to those in chat after I got a screen freeze - I can't understand why this track was picked up despite its very well known issues from past UKGPL seasons (and other leagues). It's not like it would suddenly become stable by some miracle...

I was leading the race and exchanged positions with Tim a few times and just when the battle was getting closer the almost inevitable happened. It's sad to see championships being influenced by such a thing considering the fact that it's well within our power to avoid it.

I hope this track is not going to be run anymore in future races and I hope other tracks with screen freeze issues are also put on a black list so things like this don't happen again.

On this page:

provided by Tim (Vosblod), it says in one of the posts:

Risky and thus avoided (several CTDs over the years, yet not systematically):
Riverside

Please use that info this to avoid repeating such races as this one in the future.

I was going ok....for me...in a 66!  Following Goran when he went off, sadly a trampoline was buried in the hay bales and bounced his car right back across track into me, taking two wheels off.  Ah well!

NP, Goran it wasn't down to any risky move, just one of those racing incidents that happen.

Stat tables after round 9. Goran has a healthy lead in the Consistency table while Phil leads the Climbers (best 8 scores to count)
