A couple of notes re. Blue Flags during qualifying and race where they differ from GTR2;

Blue Flags during qualifying - if you see a blue flag during qualifying it will be on your outlap and the driver approaching is on a hotlap. Please take this into account and act accordingly. The driver behind does not know you are on an outlap so no rash moves out of the way please  Usual SRouk rules / guidelines should be applied.

Blue Flags during the race -  if you see a blue flag during the race it means the driver approaching is about to lap you. Please take this into account and act accordingly. It differs from GTR2 in that you will not be penalised for not allowing the lapping driver to pass within a certain period. The flag is informational only. Usual SRouk rules / guidelines should be applied.

Why is everyone getting confused over LM at Zandvort and V8 at Mid Ohio? lol

Not actually bought the track yet and it will force me into trying to get the hang of the car. I really want to like it and drive it but after a few laps it gets very frustrating.

Yep there were definitely at least 28 people saying wow, "that looks like a fantastic way to spend my Friday night - even a night out with a scantily clad Cameron Diaz and her Kia Cee'd wouldn't keep from attending.

Serious!

If it's any consolation, I am finding exactly the same :(

I'll be racing if I can though.

For those who have not done laps on this track in iRacing, your in for a real treat. They have done an outstanding job recreating it. "Everything" appears to be there down to the last slick spots of the track.  ;D

Another great looking poster mr. oily, and I'm not exaggerating...

How come I don't see it posted in the official iRacing forum, in the Hosted Sessions section?

Thanks Kruger, you're welcome back any time  ;D

I was going to leave it until tomorrow to post over on the iRacing forums, followed by another "server is up" post on the Friday to bump it back up the list but perhaps you're right - probably worth giving as much warning as possible. Haven't quite worked out what works best yet, I'm working on the basis every man and his dog is running hosted races so they'll get forgotten about quickly but hopefully people are looking for these now...with any luck! :)

That's true but... others have mere words, you have these fantastic looking posters ;)

And you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words :)

Ooooh this is going to be a tricky one! The new build adds another dimension of difficulty - just what's needed around when racing monsters around a tight circuit!

I was using Shane's setup last night and it was a million miles better than what I had - might be worth a go....

Word of warning, this is not an easy combo. iR's version of the track is a lot narrower and twistier than i've driven in other sims and the cars inherent ability to go sideways at a moments throttle application is an interesting mix!

Shane's site seems to point to some .ch site that Chrome tells me is harbouring malware so I've stayed well clear  :o However if someone cares to post a drivable setup somewhere clean I suspect I'll be in need of one ;)

Edit: Must be one of the adverts as I went back to cut and paste the details inorder to send him a pm and nothing got flagged up  :-\

A car that doesnt like going round corners and one of the tightest and twistiest track, not the greatest combo, sorry Oily.

It's not so bad once you get used to it. Many a driver has stated this is one of the most difficult tracks to race on. This car is a handful. But every car I race is a handfull LOL. I almost broke 1:30 with one of the set ups I found where the guy got a 1:25. My problem is balancing the braking since this car likes to lock them up. Well ... for me anyways. I did find it likes to brake to the right. You can almost stand on the brakes to start a turn to the right. Oily, this was a hell of a car to cut my teeth on being away from online racing for a while. Thank you for the unique challenge here ;D I am sure I will not be blazing any speed records on Friday, but I will finish the race with any luck.  :P

I have posted the setup I've been playing with at Team Shark.  You have to have patience here and don't try to hit the turns fast, it just won't work with this car.  It seems to like an early turn-in, feels like you almost stop at the apex then power it out.  Once you get into the swing of it, it's a great combo :)

I've managed to get into 1:26's BTW

Looking forward to this. I have done some time in the V8 so with any luck in won't be so terriblterribly slow this time.

Have been trying this and best so far is a 1.30 something but its pretty tricky. I'll turn up and practise beforehand but probably wont race.

not the greatest combo

And there was me hoping I'd be partially responsible for stringing together two iR events you DID actually enjoy!

Seriously though, I know this is a tricky combo but as Beckham says, when you find that rhythmn it's actually quite rewarding. I wanted a different challenge, plus these things look magnificent on track when there's a few running close together. Interestingly here there's also the issue of tyre wear, if you keep steaming into bends quicker than you should, you're likely to run into trouble quite quickly! I have seen a few blow-outs in the V8.

Sounds like you're doing well Mike - may have to nab that setup of yours this eve! Been away for a bit this week so I'm going to need every minute of that practice session tonight!

Welcome aboard Fozz BTW!

Not a fan of the V8s or that stupid windscreen. Mid-Ohio is also a new track to me so just made it up as I went along. Used Gizmo's setup, but after the first few laps when Mrs Shark was on Skype and buggering up the connection caused me to go off I was on my own and boy was it dull. After being so far behind and with no pace what-so-ever I couldn't see the point in changing tyres as I was slow with or without. I got in front of some folk as they did change tyres and I valiantly held off Ade near the end for a while just by positioning my car right and being really slow in the right places (everywhere ;)), but with 8% left on my front right the car only turn the left handers with throttle and eventually that was my downfall, going off on the penultimate corner.

With the new build I'm just struggling to change down gears in any of the cars and it's making me feel very uncomfortable with my driving. My solution tonight was to map look left to the clutch, so on downshifts I pressed look left (clutch) and the down shift paddle at the same time. It wasn't very comfortable, but it meant I could change down gears with success at least.

If I can't get to grips with the new shifting I'm going to have to call it quits with iRacing and go back to GTR2. It's not enjoyable for me if I can't do something as basic as shifting I'm afraid. I'm sure it's all me, but I can't really see where I'm going wrong.

I gave up not on track, because I been enjoying it in the Indycar this week, I thought you might of been trying Shark, but I just cant handle this TinTop machines, I brake, turn the wheel but it just goes straight on, its bloody pathetic! :/

Wasn't exactly a stellar performance this end but I really enjoyed that. Wasn't sure how an hour would be around here but for me at least there was never a dull moment. Some good dices, plenty of pressure, uncertainty over which strategy would work out and then for the last 10 laps driving around with steering pointing the wrong way after introducing myself to the tyre wall!

Just love these cars, they really do keep you on your toes but plenty of feel there so it's doable. Still not there with the aids off, without blip on I was doing all sorts of strange things. At one point I caught myself blipping the brakes at the same time I was blipping the throttle changing down under braking!

Grats to the podium chaps, all good drives for different reasons.

Anyway thanks all for coming along, a good night's racing and no major shunts which is always nice albeit rare it seems these days! :)

That felt like an hour and a half, trying to hang onto an over-powered roller skate :D

I thought they would be like the Vette, all about looking after the tyres and driving it as smoothly as possible. I was right.

Qualified 4th and got a rocket start to blow past Dave before we left the grid and around the outside of Ade in T1, completing it into T2.  So now I was chasing Adam who was soon 3 seconds down the road.  I didn't go mad trying to match him and got into a nice rhythm.  Just before half distance, Adam had a couple of offs, the second of which allowed me to pass for the lead!  It was soon evident that he pitted shortly after, so now I had to keep up a smooth pace and monitor the 8 second gap to Dave.

Then with about 5 to go, disaster struck.  braked for T2, messed up my first shift and the car snapped sideways and off.  Just stopped before the tyre wall, had to reverse out and rejoin.  Dave was now leading with Adam breathing down my neck.  My tyres felt really knackered now and Adam was soon past.  Then with 2 to go Dave fell off and we had a bit of fun right at the end.

Enjoyed that.  Grats to Adam for the pitstop strategy taking the win :)

I really didn't enjoy three of the only four races I've done in this car, all in the Pro Series, and only had fun at Road Atlanta because it was very busy and I wasn't dead last like I was everywhere else.

So it was a bit of a surprise to find myself on the front row, and with a car that felt reasonably good (for a Falcon). I'd tried a few practice starts at the end of praccy but was very much in unknown territory on the outside of the front row, and it showed - I fed the clutch in too slowly and it bogged down, and to my horror everyone else seemed to get good starts, and Mike, Oily, and Ade all came storming past.

Followed them for a few laps until Oily had a moment in the twisty bits and I cheekily forced the issue, not knowing if I'd get a better chance. After a few laps Ade had a tank slapper coming over the second crest and I nipped by him too, but try as I might I couldn't really make much of an impression on Mike and Adam Miles.

I figured Mike would be conserving tyres like I was, and Adam would be going hell for leather and planning to stop, and whether he planned it or not, after two offs at the end of the back straight Adam pitted for tyres leaving Mike and I in a good sized lead. I knew I had to keep pushing but also keep protecting the tyres as Adam would certainly be able to make up much of the gap on fresh rubber. The gap to Mike had stabilised and then to my surprise he went off at turn 2 and I was suddenly in the lead, just a few seconds ahead and with Adam rapidly catching both of us.

The laps ticked down and Adam passed Mike and was reeling me in. I was just about managing the gap but the front tyres suddenly got much worse with a little over 2 to go and I slithered off in the penultimate corner, brushing the barriers and letting Adam by. Distraught, I got back on the track just in front of Mike, with no real idea if the car was okay or what state the front tyres were now in. It felt odd but was still drivable and I defended like crazy to hang on to second place over the last couple of laps.

Pleased to get 2nd but annoyed with myself for not at the very least forcing Adam to pass me on the track. ::) Was good fun though with action all the way through. ;D

The V8 appears to be one of the harder ones to get the blips right in, along with the Radical. I wonder if me having mapped my paddles to the U and D keys (to avoid the dreaded double shifts) is helping as it effectively ensures a longer minimum control activation period.

I only missed a couple of downshifts in that race, thankfully.

but I just cant handle this TinTop machines, I brake, turn the wheel but it just goes straight on, its bloody pathetic! :/

You can't brake and turn in the Falcon. It's big and front heavy and trying to trail brake doesn't work and destroys the front tyres to boot. You get it stopped, get it turned in, get it settled and then get back on the loud pedal.

For me this was a good race and I had a lot of fun :)  I was only two laps down at the end which was better than I expected. I finished the race and did not wreck anyone  I have a lot to learn but that the fun part. I can only get better from here. Thanks to everyone for welcoming me back and the encouragement you gave me before and after the race. Look forward to next Sunday for the endurance race. Will hook up with you all during the week.  8)
