NOW A FIXED SETUP EVENT!

Flags: local only

Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Please make sure you are fully aware of the UKiR Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3349.0) - particularly the rules about general conduct and in-game chat messages.

NOTE: All sessions protected by the main password, there is no seperate 'pre-event practice'

A couple of notes re. Blue Flags during qualifying and race where they differ from GTR2;

Blue Flags during qualifying - if you see a blue flag during qualifying it will be on your outlap and the driver approaching is on a hotlap. Please take this into account and act accordingly. The driver behind does not know you are on an outlap so no rash moves out of the way please  Usual SRouk rules / guidelines should be applied.

Blue Flags during the race -  if you see a blue flag during the race it means the driver approaching is about to lap you. Please take this into account and act accordingly. It differs from GTR2 in that you will not be penalised for not allowing the lapping driver to pass within a certain period. The flag is informational only. Usual SRouk rules / guidelines should be applied.

Brilliant, another one I can't do. No Vette, no Daytona.
Have fun.

Any chance of making it a fixed setup race?  That might encourage a few more people (like me :) ) to show up as there's not so much prep required to be race ready.

Doh. Sorry Legz! Would have been good if you could have made it too - no chance of purchasing said brute?? Daytona's the nicest of the oval/ road courses also IMO but it's turning into an expensive Friday night I realise:(. If it's any consolation this definitely won't be the last outing for the Vette as it's actually quite a lot of fun...once I stop fluffing my changes!

Cheers for the suggestion Adam, I do want to try some races with fixed setups and it's on the roadmap soon but I don't think this is the place to do it ya know - perhaps you can persuade me!

Friday's are generally relaxed affairs anyway, I'm not sure many spend hours practicing and usually with people sharing setups you've got more chance of finding something that doesn't bite by just letting everyone find their way - I don't think I'd have the confidence at this point to decide on a base setup that didn't cause somebody problems due to driving style etc.

Daytona RC is on the Corvette schedule so there should be a fixed setup available in the 'iracing setups' 'tab'. Most likely I'll run it without changes.

Interesting....

Ok lets give it a go with fixed setups and Gizmo I'm assigning you head of the ACHF customer complaints department. Congratulations ;)

Heheh yes no pressure Adam ;).

Seriously though, it's a good opportunity to try something different as far as I'm concerned, I really like the idea of us all running the same - looking forward to it.

I'll have to check out the exact setup name tonight so I can point you guys to it in case you want to practice...

No, you misunderstand - you don't have to make it fixed setup to have the fixed setups from the official series available, for those of us who don't want to cod about setting the car up. There are a fair few drivers running in the open series using the fixed setups and doing rather well...

Yep I'm with you Dave but I do actually fancy making it a fixed setups only race. Handy to know they're available regardless though.

I guess Adam wanted something to level the field out a bit and I'm in favour, so unless I've missed something, if there's a decent setup available I'm happy to run with it and have everyone use the same.

If I'm attending you're going to need more than a fixed setup to level the field out :D ...... sadly not because I'm awesome ..... :D

The fixed setup doesn't seem too bad although it's very easy to lose under braking.  I presume that altering the fuel load is okay?

Anyhow, 1m43.2 here so far but I can't see myself going any quicker.

Will be a very tough race to finish I suspect.

Cheers, Ross.

If it's set as a fixed setup on the server, you won't be able to change anything at all except steering ratio if the car allows it.

well didnt like the fixed too much  so went back to my old setup which seem to improve the traction so it doesnt slide everytime i breathe on the throttle. Didnt realise we were going fixed :(

Was having fun chasing Pete but binned it at the chicane around lap 8.  Oh well

Pity Toby wasn't back in time for the race itself, but it did permit the unlikelyfully expected result of total Team Shark domination.

I struggled with the setup quite a bit early in practice and dipped in and out whilst watching the tennis. I couldn't quite reproduce my practice best lap in qualifying but with the short session I knew that it was more important to get a good banker lap in and duly nabbed pole with my second flying lap, binning it on my third attempt which was going to be a banzai effort had it not ended in turn 1.

Wasn't sure what starting on the banking was going to be like, especially as my only attempt to find out in practice nearly ended with my slow moving car collecting Spanner (I think) on a section of track I wasn't sure was live. :-[ As it happened it was fine and whilst the car wanted to rotate right it was easily controllable with some moderation of the throttle and I think was all got through turn 1 okay. :)

I tried a splash and dash in practice and it took nearly as long as tyres only so it made sense to stop around half distance for tyres and no fuel; I had a plan B which was to take rears only but by the time we reached that point I had a big lead over Picnic and got in and out in the lead. After that it was a matter of staying focused which I did rather better tonight that on Tuesday (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=8312#event2282), and starting the last lap I decided to risk a stab at a really decent fastest lap and popped in a final time two tenths inside my pole time and only a tenth off my best from practice. ;D

Well done to Pete for a very solid second place and for being the only car I didn't lap. :thumbup2:

I think my only major moment of the race was when Purds spun in T1 in front of me in the closing stages just after I'd joked on TeamSpeak that there was still time for me to crash and hand Picnic the win.

Since they added some actual steering feel to the Corvette I've really been enjoying driving it. The fixed setups do suit my driving style - and perhaps just as importantly encourage and reward the 'slow in, fast out' style needed in the high power to grip ratio cars.

Getting used to 2nd, 3rd week on the trot  ::)

I joined the server to get some practice not having driven the Corvette since I did a season when it first came out but the door bell went so total practice was about 10 or 11 very erratic laps. Still that's obviously all I need  :P as I managed 2nd on the grid behind the dominant Dave. Having never practiced a standing start on the banking, and having a feeling I had fluked that second, I was actually feeling a little nervous! Got an OK start at a similar pace to the others and was pleased to get through T1 without any issues. No way was I going to keep up with Dave so I just tried to drive some clean laps and to my surprise opened out a small gap to Ross and Andy. However once they were happier when everything was up to temp they started to slowly real me in. Then Andy dropped back so Ross had no distractions and caught me up. I was worried with the long straights that Ross would get in the slip stream and cruise by but generally I got a good exit from the corners. Ross then sadly lost it in to the Bus Stop thing, didn't see what happened as I'm not looking in the mirror going through there!

I knew I was going to catch Dave so settled down to try and be consistent and to bag that second. Very pleased not to have been lapped.

I agree with Dave that the Corvette is a better drive than it used to be but it is for me very much about being patient and not pushing. Too much weight makes late braking a mare but can lead to some awesome drifting moments  ;D Get it straight before giving it the beans or that leads to some donut moments  ;)

Just missed by braking point and clouted the tyres unfortunately. Getting the gear changes right in that thing with no aids was really tough, combined with braking and it was a miracle I managed the laps I did!

Well done on the 2nd place. I don't think I'd have got past you to be honest, and certainly wouldn't have made it stick anyhow.

Great pace up front Dave. Different league to the rest of us last night!

Not sure what happened to Andy, but he'd have been past me had he not fallen back I think.
