Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.
(5) P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function. You may go as fast as you like in the pits, but please exercise caution. Penalties will be handed out for causing contact in the pit lane. Use your best judgement when making your pitstop during the race.

There are no start lights for this track so we will use a rolling start. Wait till the timer starts then use the 1st lap to warm the tires and brakes. Tighten up the formation to two by two before the last turn. Leader accelerates out of the last turn signifying the start.

I tested and installed version .90 from no-grip. The server is up now. The car class spreadsheet has also been updated.  There was a bit of shuffling of drivers between groups. Ade just snuck into the Orange group so look for him to be strong.

I found the installer to be a bit of a nightmare.  I think it should be renamed the Silverstone virus.

By the time that I had installed the track, I had Silverstone files just about everywhere.

I found that the best way was to create a folder called 70Silverstone and install to that.

I think it still didn't know what to do with the uninstall.

Anyway, good to be back on familiar turf!

Current PB of 1:43.943 in the GT350R

I downloaded the track from the UKGTR page and all the files say something like 70Silverstone******

But the server is calling it 07Silverstone and I cannot join.

Is the race announcement aimed at the correct track?

Clive, not sure if same happened to you, but the install exe just dumped the silv70 files in my P&G game directory rather than in an independant track dir under locations  :(  collected the files needed but what should the track dir be called? 70silverstone ?

Sorry for the poorly made installer guys. It was the 1st one I did. Looks like I may need some schooling on this one. The final folder should be 70Silverstone under GAMEROOT\GameData\Locations. Installers are supposed to make it easy for you guys, but instead I've made a mess. Sorry again. I'll try to clean up and post a new installer for those who haven't installed it yet.

Thanks Mike, although I don't think that that will cure the problem of the server apparently running the wrong track.

It says 07Silverstone GPlayout whereas I would have expected 70Silverstone.

I just realized the error of my ways. 07Silverstone looks a lot like 70Silverstone. The time machine has kicked on and moved us back to 1970.
The installer found at no-grip works FMJ.

As someone who often went to Silverstone as a kid in the 60s & 70s, the one thing I dislike about this version of the track is, it is far too narrow. Needs to be at least twice the width.

Not sure which car to take for this  ???. Tried both the GT350 & the 275GTB & cannot get a setup for either which I'm satisfied with. 1.44s in both.

I'm back in the Z06 for this one by the look of things, still havn't downloaded the track yet as usual  ::)

At least I should know the layout quite well, even if my setup is another 'all right on the night' special ;)

Really enjoyed the 1st half, totally action packed! 8)
2nd half was the complete opposite, apart from lapping a few cars, the closest I was to a rival car was 10 secs away as I left the pits.

I think I'm slowly coming to the conclusion, that to hold races longer than 40mins with grids smaller than 20, takes the edge of the experience of the night (what ever the sim). It's just that the majority of action happens in the 1st 20 mins, nine times out of ten. Not totally made up my mind yet :-\

p.s. Great debut for the Team Oldie "Rookie" ;), how did the Soggy Bottom's get on tonight? ;D

Results and Replay are posted.

It was non-stop action for me. The pit stop is key to the balancing of these cars. Manteos entered the pits in 3rd and just eeked out in front of me (i entered pit in 2nd) by 2 seconds. Paulo must have changed tires as he was a further 15+ seconds back after the pit sequence.

Before the pit, Paulo and I were very close to one another. I would gobble him up under braking and he would run away in the straight bits. We both made a mistake and damaged the front of our cars which allowed the orange brigade (Manteos, Clive and Ade) to close up the gap. Once Paulo and I settled the lead postion (he rightfully earned it) he and I put our head down and started lapping quickly again.

After the pit sequence, I couldn't close the gap to Manteos. Instead, I completely rooted my tires and fell way off the pace. Paulo had no trouble gobbling me up and then took the fight to Manteos. From the looks of the results, it looked like Manteos held on by the hair of this chinny chin chin. I enjoyed the race with you guys.

Next week is a non-championship battle at Hockenheim 1999. Eventhough the race link says Hockenheim (GP) we will be running the 1999 version. Dave has not returned from holidays yet. I'll ask him to update the database when he returns. Again, this is a non-points fun event next week. Car will be the Porsche 906 (any variant except the 906/8). We'll be running a sprint format.

I had a great time battling for a lot of the race. Mostly with FMG which was a great close battle ;) but also had some nice dices with API and Legzy.Lots of clean hard fought racing ;D A pleasure to be racing with you chaps :D And thank you Mike for all your efforts in putting the races together 8)

Really enjoyed the 1st half, totally action packed! 8)
2nd half was the complete opposite, apart from lapping a few cars, the closest I was to a rival car was 10 secs away as I left the pits.

Sounds exactly like my race Legzy.

After quallying 4th ( ??? how did that happen) I made a couple of mistakes in the early laps & dropped to around 8th/9th place & had a good battle with API & Lorenzo for a few laps until they both went grass-tracking. By this time Legzy was close behind & the gap to him stayed around 2s until I pitted. Thats when things went wrong!  ::)

Overshot my pit & had to go around again, fortunately just had enough fuel. But I spun at Becketts on that lap which lost more time. Came out after my second stop around 15s behind Legzy but although I was gaining a little each lap, I was never going to catch him before the end.

Got a little bored the last few laps & started experimenting with different lines & braking points in an effort to go quicker which inevitably led to some mistakes. I had two big crashes, one at Becketts (again) & on the final lap at Abbey when I was 0.5s up on my previous best lap. The buildings at Abbey have no substance, by the way, I just went straight through them  Tough car that Fezza, it still drove fine after all that accident damage!

Congrats to Manteos, PR & Mike.

Paulo must have changed tires as he was a further 15+ seconds back after the pit sequence.

I didn't Mike. This time I turned the engine off, but as I said before, the key assigned for pit request isn't working, tried to change it more than once without success, therefore, the extra time I lost in pits, was waiting for crew to exit the garage and begin to work.

As for the race, it was very enjoyable with Mike untill the pit stops, we had a nice battle, we even had trade paints, but in a safe way.  :)
I believe we were driving at the edge, however, I was feeling plenty of safe driving due to a brilliant driving from Mike.

When I exit the pits, I was in 6th, after Manteos made his pit stop, I was right behind Mike and 8 seconds down to Manteos. Mike and I didn't change the tires, so I had an extra care when trying to pass him, specialy entering corners. 10 laps untill the end and 7.4 seconds down now to Manteos, last two laps were under 1 second gap, but I would need at least another lap to grab the lead...I guess...
Manteos never done a mistake and it paid off. Congrats for your win, well deserved.
Congrats Mike, nicely driven that Falcon.
Well done to all finishers.

Cheers

Don't know what the rest of you were up to because I was racing Ade.  Even when I couldn't see him I knew that I was still racing Ade.

And the ratbag nailed me on the last poxy lap!  :taz:

It was a brilliant race.

I was third at the start but after a while made a mistake at Club, which allowed Ade and Manteos to slip through.  We were still close on lap 16 when Ade went wide at Club and I was able to repass him.  He pitted and I did likewise on the following lap.

It appeared to me that his tyres were shot just before he pitted, so I was hoping that his second set would be likewise at the end of the race.

BTW Ade, your brake light come on at the most unlikely places.  Perhaps you could do with some deadband or more of it?

Anyway, I was about 10 seconds up the road when we had both pitted and he gradually reeled me in.

I went wide at Copse and he passed me again.  Worse still was that when I looked to see how much further we had to go I found that we were on the last lap.

Ade repeated his previous error at Club and I was right with him at Abbey.

The result of which was that I gave him an almighty thump up the rear at Woodcote in my efforts to get past.  Thankfully he held the lurid slide that ensued.

Good fun and the good news is that I stay in the Orange group for the next round and Ade will be Yellow.   :jumpjoy:

That'll teach the blighter!

Despite racing very close for much of the duration I don't think we even traded any paint did we? Was a very gentlemanly battle, we'd pass each other and then fall of the track again to allow each other to re-pass  ;)
Shame you span as Paulo was lapping you, I think we'd still have been pretty close by the end  :)

Was also interesting to compare styles, I seemed to have much more oversteer than you did - sometimes that appeared an advantage, others not

Congrats to the podium

Hi all :)

Very nice race yesterday for me! In qualif I had to take the feeling with the car and the track, and the first attempts were very bad... I started 6th but I knew that the race was long, and I had the time to understand how to drive with the Fezza here.

During the first laps I wan't able to keep the pace of the guys in front, and in 9-10 laps I was at 10 seconds by the leader, tasting the amazing duel between Clive and Ade. After some laps I started to close the gap, and with a bit of lucky, cause a double mistake by Clive and Ade, I took the 3rd place, starting to gain some tenth in every lap by Paulo and Mike.
They pitted before than me of about3-4 laps, and I had the chance to make my last laps alone and pushing a bit more, trying to gain as much as possible before the pit.
At the pit started the comic movie :). I arrived slowly in the pit lane, but on the left there was a very small place to overtake the cars that were doing their pits, and my car got stucked on the "step" leaving me with half car suspended in the air. Fortunately I managed to bring it back with the reverse gear, and after wasting 8-10 seconds I managed to reach my mechanics, but I suppose to have wasted all the advantage in fuel strategy with that manouvre.
In fact Mike was coser than I expect, but with weared tyres, he could only keep my pace without gaining time, and losing a couple of tenth per lap. The trouble was Paulo! He was coming back as a fury, and I thought he was on new tyres cause of his pace, but as he said he didn't changed it, so his pace was even more terrifying!
He was gaining on me 1 second per lap, and with 5 laps to go he was under the 5 seconds of distance by me, so I expected a "challenged" last lap. Fortunately a slight mistake of Paulo at only 2 laps to go, gave me another 6-7 tenth of seconds more, and leaved no chances for Paulo to try an attack, and close the gap before the third sector of last lap.
That was a really challanged race, and a lot of people were in a close gap, especially in qualif, but even in race. It's really good to see the frist five cars in less than 10 seconds by the leader before the pit. Great work Mike :), and many congrats for your pace with the Falcon... fantastic! Grats to Paulo that made me sweat a lot, making me become an "accountant" for the last 10 laps :D.

Thanks to all the people who joined the race. I will have to jump the next cause my Italian P&G champ will restart on the next Thursday. I'll see you in 2 weeks.
Bye bye :)

I'd say no we never did trade any paint 8). And Yes we had very very different setups that for sure. I realized that my setup was way to tight especially for a long run. I could see that your car was much more loose and you were really killing me in some of the turns. But like you said some place's I had some advantage as my tight set really put the power down well. Was very interesting given we had the same car with very contrasting setups. Even with that difference we ran our best lap times within .013!! :o.. Amazing! I think if we melded ours setups we might just have the perfect set ;D

Just remembered a great few laps I had with FMG, best moment being when I managed to hook a Toe, had better brakes & took a good corner... only for him to get straight back past before we reached the next corner & we kept at it!

I did laugh 8)
