Title: Race Department races
Post by: Truetom on December 02, 2010, 06:35:20 PM +0000
I decided to go for some races over there to see what and how they do it. You will find me there under the name Tom Ostry. "You have to use real names" - pffft! My name's too long and doesn't fit in any form. :D

Anyways, I don't go out on Fridays much: http://www.racedepartment.com/gtr-evolution-racing-club/43819-bmw-m3-gtr-cup-enduro-interlagos-friday-3th-december.html

Was going to race at Interlagos tonight in the M3 event, but after a dozen practice laps I decided against it.....ghastly car

Might join you next week at Algarve.

just did a full grid race against the AI with the supercups at Portimao, great fun, super spectacle, its a feast for my old mince-pies  :)

1:49.4 PB for me so far.

Not sure yet, MJ. Have responsibilty to Legzy for the final 2 rounds of GC GT1 Season. I can always sign out of RD.
Defo a problem here with cooling the brakes, also the gearbox is too short. :-\ Softs are gonna be out after two laps and have to try it out with meds. But I made a laptime, errr, somewhat quicker, MJ. Mailed. :)

I'd like you to do the one you'd enjoy the most TT.
Just let me know which you decide, as I'll probably copy your choice :)

Sorry to appear mean but I'd rather not promote Race Department events on this site. They have a very restrictive policy towards us promoting our events there eg deletion  >:(

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Legzy on December 04, 2010, 07:04:27 PM +0000
This thread is here for our benefit Tony, not theirs.
Effectively, they'll be running a test race for our drivers to try this out & feed back if it's worth pursuing.

Err you have a free week next week with the Gamerscrib taking a week off. How dare they ;)
Lol, Spanner, useful tip. ;) How about an invasion on RD race. :tank:

I agree with Legzy, Tony. We're not running away, just doing a test race on expence of somebody else. :)

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on December 05, 2010, 01:24:41 PM +0000
Yeah, I guess your right.

As a strong believer in cross-league co-operation/harmony I just feel it's so shortsighted when "fellow" sim-communities delete posts promoting other communities events or treat it as spam. I like the fact that we seem to encourage others coming here to post about their stuff.

I have posted at quite a few other community sites and generally have received a warm welcome. However there are at least two that will delete post's, one doing so with no explanation whatsoever.

Anyway that's my rant over, sorry to go off topic. I'm outta here.

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Truetom on December 05, 2010, 02:22:50 PM +0000
You're also right, Tony. Just a fact that they're :stupid: doesn't change the fact that they're organizing races we might have to anyways. Let's just use them for our purposes and take the knowledga for our needs. That way we can be just as selfishoriented as they are.

that was mega, really enjoyed it, close intense action throughout.  8)  My only problem was a shocking jerky frame rate here, dont know if it was the track or their dodgy server or one of the telemetry updates ive added recently. ??? Any one else get low fps there tonight?

Great racing though, the porkers were superb at Portimao.  :)

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Truetom on December 07, 2010, 09:54:48 PM +0000
Great stuff indeed. Chris Butcher also gave a good fight, as did Martin with a complicated Finnish name. ;) Hope I didn't come too agressively, MJ, don't know the exact position of these cars by sound yet. Chris spun soon after you, so it's a shame you quit in the second race.  :-\ Well done Ade and GT and a bitch slap light chin tap for those who didn't attend. :wetfish:

This mod is ready to try here. 8)

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: goldtop on December 07, 2010, 10:12:30 PM +0000
No practice and a meeting with a few friends down the pub on the way home from work didn't make me any quicker. As a result was over cautious and got rear ended a couple of times early in race 1 then got stranded on the kerb a couple of laps short of the finish. Race 2 was better with some nice chases.

No problems with stutter for me MJ, but I do generally keep my settings on the low side.

I do like this mod, but I also like the GTR2 version at least as much. Just seems to be more feel/control on the edge with the GTR2 vers. but I'd be hard pushed to choose between them.

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Mark J on December 08, 2010, 07:48:48 PM +0000
interesting that no one else had fps issues. Wonder if i boogered my install with some of the telemtry/XD add-ons. Will have to test some other tracks as first time ive encounted poor frames with Evo/race. :-\

Yeah, sorry for quitting out of race 2. I had no intention of doing a second race as had already been glued to the pc for hour and half just for one race, but the action was so good i got enticed into it. Was loving the 2nd race until i got an oversteer tail slapper out of  a slow corner and decided that would do me for the night, but the action was brilliant throughout. Shame we couldnt run a supercup league here as it makes for a great one make series.

http://www.racedepartment.com/race-racing-club/45800-s2000-jyllandsringen-sunday-january-2nd-2011-a.html

Jyllandsringen is a very tight and twisty track with some nice camber changes which should suit these cars. I've been building up my Brownie points, so I'm hoping to sneak away for an hour to do this Sunday morning.

AFAIK this will be GT1 mod, so I don't see any problems here, Legy. I sent a pm to Hugo how to enlist as the thread is closed. Says he's still working on it - whatever he means by that. ::) Gotta keep an eye on this.

Being that they quote the class as GT pro which is a standard class in game i'd imagine it uses the standard cars.

yeah i read it as using the standard GT Pro class that comes with Evo as stock, so we should all be good to go. :) How about planning an online praccy sesh before the event? Though no idea how or who would host  ??? (or do they have a praccy server set up?)

okay, just done some laps at Abu Dhabi  :)

2:10.4 Aston Martin
2:11.3 Vette C6R
2:12.1 Gumpert.

Did more laps in the Aston hence probably why quicker time and never ever driven a Gumpert before!.

These GTP cars are mega in Evo, listen to them from external replay..the finest engine sounds ive ever heard in a race sim  8) Sound wicked in-car too with the volume cranked up  :) Loving the extra ffb effects too.
All bodes well for GTR3 when it finally arrives if they can combine all these great features/candy with the endurance racing elements of GTR2. Why the heck did they leave out working headlights and darkness is a mystery to me!  ???  The italian makes are conspicuous by their absence too  :P

Be prepared for some pretty ruthless racing at RD and a fair bit of bad atmosphere if tonight's experience is anything to go by. I bailed out after witnessing some dreadful driving in race 1 and in the first few corners of race 2. A shame as there are also some good and fair drivers there.

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Truetom on January 02, 2011, 01:01:03 AM +0000
Well, I can't really complain. I had both good races, even if there was some frantic action and door to door paint rubbing - I like it. :) Can't say I saw any unfair behavior, only too much chat of some spoiled children. :P And yes, some not so polite answers to perfectly legit questions. :-\ But all in all, I like that site and races.

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Mark J on January 02, 2011, 01:06:46 PM +0000
in the few races ive had there with the Porsche super cup most of the drivers were pretty decent as well as blinking fast, but there were one or two prize-A tw*ts on occasion who would dive for an apex no matter what the outcome or chance and happily take you out. I would hope a GT1 series would be fairly professional as they have an incident reporting process with quite strong punishments i believe.

Title: Re: Race Department races
Post by: Mark J on January 04, 2011, 10:39:56 PM +0000
Had a superb race here tonight, really enjoy hustling around these GT cars with a full 28 car grid race on a tight and challenging street circuit. Was first long distance race ive had with Evo so was a bit of a learning curve but i thought it was an excellent endurance race.
Ran 10th for most of the race and feeling chuffed with myself. However as usual the pitstop god kicked me in the goolies...based on TT's sage advice about having aero fixed in the pre-set pit choice  ::)  and i exited the pits down in blinking 17th place.
Took 19 secs out the guys ahead in final third of race but one of them decided he didnt like me overtaking him with 1 lap remaining and took me off at T1  >:( but i finished 16th in the end.
These GT1 cars are cracking, sound and look superb and the racing was fast and furious. Looking forward to the rest of the series.  8)

Would have finished top 10 if not for that stop.

Come on Spanner, you know iR is  good for hotlapping only. As soon as you race somebody one is out. And I mean race, be close, force him, nudge him, scare him! All I was ever afraid in iR was that somebody will go off 'cause of me, so I prefered to let him pass. Racing? :whistling:
Anyways, I'll get my portion, here or elsewhere. :(

Corking race again tonight !  8)  Me and TT are getting quicker over at RD  :)

Qualied 6th, finished 10th...after, yes you guessed it...a slow pitstop which dropped me from 4th to 13th  ::) fought my way back to 10th in a photo finish.

TT finished 6th i believe  :thumbup1:

Still loving this GT1 series with full grids, quick drivers, great tracks and lovely jubbly gfx and sounds. Jump in, the waters lovely  :)

Lol, MJ, I set everything up and then just pressed Enter even before I stopped. ::)
Finished 5th. :) Got some places through consistency and some through being pesky. :D Good stuff. 8) Wish more of you would come and test these truly wonderfull beasts. Still waiting for some decent  Sport class race, I think this class would be most enjoyable to race, same as GT2s in GTR2. :)

as hardly any racing going on here lately  :'(

RD appear to be continually running some decent 'Race/Evo' races each week. One every night in different classes. WTCC monday at Pau, GTsport at Oschersleben tues, GTPower pack Beemers at Valencia weds.

You not joining us for GTR2 F1'88 at Brno on Tuesday (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9190#event2623) then MJ? ???

A driver of your ability would probably be able to slot straight into the McLaren/Ferrari in this handicapped style event ;D

And actively advertising other leagues is going to improve matters? :P

there is method in my madness.

1) there are fuller grids there at the moment for GT and TC races using Evo/Race
2) if i cant race my regular racing buddies here, i'd like to see them there in the same races, and no-one here is running regular Race/Evo events.
3) the more of us that appear in their races and show our decently paced and clean racing, the easier it is to entice some of their drivers over into our league. I've already had offline comments from one or two drivers there who commented that its nice to be able to race someone close without being nerfed off.
Good promo for our league wouldnt you say? its all about awareness   :)

Re: the F1 mod, no not for me thanks. I just havent got time to spend ages setting up an F1 car and its yet another tangental distraction from any gt racing here  :(

I'm pleased to hear you've taken on the mantle Spanner and that we can all look forward to more Race07/Evo events. I'm happy to help out in any way I can, as I know others will be too.

Once again, congratulations and I wish you all the best with it.

huh?!...lol, is this the same spanner who is seemingly negative about GTR-Evo ?  :-X   As for GTsimracing...it was pretty much all we raced here up until iR reared its ugly head  :P

and yes legz i was one of the not that impressed brigade early on with Race. I never tried evo as i foolishly relied on someones comments about it on here and missed out on a year or so's good racing with it. It may be my newer rig also having something to do with it also, as to me it just looks stunning in full detail & shadows etc...especially compared to....well you know the rest  ;) oh and did i say the ffb is also much better?

Thanks guys, will take me a little while to work out the organisational side of things but please bare with me.

MJ, thats Race 07...not GTRevo lol. Personally, i prefer GTR2 to Evo, but i do enjoy, along with many people, the Touring cars and with Goldtop not able to enjoy them i thought i'd pick up the mantle.

Knowing there are others far more vocal about Evo than i (every other post!), I thought i should plan to run a series of Evo races as well which we had started doing on wednesdays anyway to try and please others and alow them to enjoy evo (take note). I had originally planned for one long wtcc type series.

You know MJ rather than moaning about what others are organising maybe you put you hat in the ring.

your the one bleeding moaning mate, all i do is say how good GTRevo is !  your like a flipping troll following my posts around. Why the hell are you and legz even posting in this thread if you have no intention of racing over at RD ?..other than to troll that is  ::)

Anyway, had a great GT club race with my new european buddies over at RD  ;) ...except in the 2nd race where some guy managed to nerf me 3 times  Tough close racing with 16+ evenly matched cars  :)

5 90min races running on a monday night using the BMW M3 GT2 car. They had 62 drivers last time..already 51 signed up this time!

true, i would rather it was a pure GT class with different makes, but should imagine a one make series using a good car will make for some excellent close racing as well as its endurance factor with the 90mins. Some nice tracks too.  8)
Exciting looking series, will add us both then TT as a team  :)

Thinking along lines of also promoting this site, would anyone be prepared to knock up a simple legends skin (blue&orange) for me and TT with some nice prominent Simracing.org.uk logos on ?

Re: steam, thought i had already accepted your invite as friend?

Title: Re: Race Department races

yep checked, you already on my friends list TT  :-*

No worry about the skin, simbin havent released the template for the new BMW anyway  :(

me and TT are added as the Legends team. Anyone else up for it? 57 entries already! should make for excellent close GT racing action and its on a monday night which doesnt clash with any Srouk events.  :)

As you've mentioned steam. I'm sick of having messages pop up as invites to be a friend at steam every time I log on to my computer. I'm a member of the communities I wish to be a member of and don't wish to be a member of some faceless organisation like steam. No offence to anyone who's invited me, but I don't do friends  >:(

Well that's my Monday morning rant out of the way....I'm back at work tomorrow so can direct my rants at the usual audience  :)

Try exiting steam and then load it again at your tool tray (if you haven't done so already). Usually does the trick.

but if you needed any encouragement...this is what awaits in this championship

and thats just for pre-qualification!  You only have to do a couple of laps here and compare with that vid and you see what a great job they did on this track. Class  8)

heh, by its very nature, 'qualification' is hotlapping !  ;)  Pretty sure the 5 rounds of races at decent racetracks with a full grid will give us plenty of racing  :)
Though i admit the full Nordschleife/Nurburg Endurance layout is a phenomenally tough track to use for a pre-qualification to the series! It will naturally favour the ring-lappers rather than normal racers so not sure why they chose it.  :-\

Didn't know you can have headlights on in Race. ???

from rules for prequali (http://www.racedepartment.com/rd-gt-championship/53874-race-department-gt-championship-s4-pre-qualification-nuerburgring-endurance-layout.html):

- switch on your headlights (no flashing) when you are in a hotlap

headlights are present, always have been...they just dont throw a beam  ::) thats got to be one of the stupidest things Simbin left out considering you can actually turn them on and they are visible on the car model  >:(

Got down to 8:40 if that's worth anything. Then got sickened by it and left. I'll never understand that German obsession by that track.
Can't say I really like the car, it feels either understeary bulldog or a snappy nervous poodle.  :-X

8.35 for me  :)  i think the car is great, handles very well i thought. From a man who drives the Marcos online, your handling statement is rather odd!  ;D

Nordy is great, just needs a gazillion laps to learn all those corners. Amazing how much of it is actually near flat out!  I enjoyed the challenge.

Still 1st round next week, Nurburg GP...great race track  8)  Two servers running full with live commentary and feed  :)
