(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) Drivers are reminded that they must select ISDN as their bandwidth, otherwise the stability of every-one's connection will be reduced.

Race one looks good, but I'm not interested in driving the mini (all fwd are dull), can we give it an alternate car to pick Mike? Something like the Tina maybe?

Seconded. Don't care if the RWD alternative is slower, I just want some fun and FWD ain't, for me :)

Give it a chance guys. Crank up the rear bar and let it float into the corners. The yellow Bitrax mini goes pretty well.

Sorry Mike.

Not interested in the ankle biters in any form.

Don't know if I can make it yet anyhow.

Lol thought that was your job :) Anyone gotta a setup for the mini? I'll take Mikes advice and give it a go.

I'm sorry I can't join these sprints, but that won't stop me from speaking my piece  ;D

The exclusive use of minies always makes a race close, fewer people crash and you have very few DNF. That's the main reason, I like them, but I also find them fun to drive. Last but not least, the only time I ever smoked the honorable Sir Ade, was driving a mini at Roskilde Ring. If that ain't fun, what is

I certainly don't agree with the many people in this forum, who think that 'all fwd cars are dull' and that 'smaller cars are boring.'

I take it you mean in simracing games ? I once tried the Mini Cooper S ( street car version ) IRL, and I sure wouldn't describe that as a 'dull' experience   ;D. I don't imagine driving a modern fwd car like the Seat Leon or the Alfa 147 GTA in race-trim would bore me to death neither  :o

I'm with Stig on this. I had several Minis in my youth and always dreamt of having a Cooper. Even when I managed to locate 10 or 15 year old wrecks in the small ads, at age 20 no insurance company would touch me  ::) Every historic race meeting I go to I still end up gawping at the Minis. I did eventually have a couple of 1275GTs which were great fun, but not the same.

I like the PnG 1275S and the even sweeter 970S but neither are better than the humble GTL 1275S which even has that funny squeak from the rear radius arm bushes.

Split opinions on FWD drive, who'd have thought it? If not for this race, it would be nice for FWD to battle RWD in evenly balanced cars to end the debate once and for all ;)

Now, oddly, I'm looking forward to the Mini race. I'll make life hell for any FWD fans, and Legzy, I beat :)

Just tried the Daytona round here and I must say as someone who usually hates these tanks, it is mightily fun.

The first lap should be worth seeing as the exit through the gap from the oval to the outfield is about as wide as my garden gate :o

1:35 so far :-[

What a pleasant suprise this track is. Would be better if the Oval bits had steeper banking as they are a pain in the shelby but a fun track to hotlap at least :) Never seen a track like it.

Matt was scarey fast in the Elan but maybe the Shelby can get there?

Don't think I'm going to be able to do this one, I'm getting around 15-20fps on this track with everything set on low & just me on the track. My 5 year old PC has exceeded its limit here I think.  :(

Ian got the Shelby down to pretty well the same time I managed in the Locust. I was 2 secs or so slower
than him if I took the Shelby. Frame rate gets flickery on my newish i5 box. Is a great shame that people
make good tracks then spoil them with stupid high graphic demands, the Virtua LM tracks are similar
really nice job but crazy graphics you can;t turn down. The Virtua LM Mid Ohio is appallingly badly done
in MHO, looks brilliant, superbly done, but useless for racing because unless you have a fast system
you can count the frames in the last corner. Is a pet hate of mine... not that you can tell  :whistling:
I think I managed mid 31s in the Elan, high 33 low 34 in the Shelby, and 37's in the mini so far.

Same here. Garden fence and tunnel section are the worst.
Have turned down all the gimmicks (shadows, circuit detail, etc) but to no avail.

If someone has a bright idea please let us know. Circuit looks great but PC crashed yesterday after 5 laps :(

Naff though it may be, you could maybe try reducing the resolution to 10280/1024 or 1024/768 maybe
use 16 bit instead of 32 bit colour.... Is what I have to do on my old athlon x4200 to watch GTL replays

OK Matt will give it a try tonight. Funnily enough I don't have too much problem with the VLM tracks, this is only the second time I have come across a track that my PC struggles with. If I can get 30fps I can usually drive OK but this is so jerky it is difficult to get the turn-in points for the corners right.

I was slightly faster in the Elan, but it will be very, very tough to break away with the extra grunt and top speed of the Shelby Daytona.

Like others have pointed out earlier, caution will be needed to make it through the garden fence unscathed.

I didn't experience any frame rate issues while testing guys. Sorry it is becoming a problem for some.

On leaving Cyprus, in RAF, managed a good Trade in deal with my duty free car for an export Cooper 997 delivered to local Morris garage in Plymouth posted to RAF Mount Batten.  The 997 was the original BMC short stroke engine developed by John Cooper for Formula Junior Racing.  In those days (1964) no synchromesh on first gear so double de-clutching a must.  When the engine got on the cam the inlet and exhaust tuned manifolds resonated and it was like driving in a biscuit tin.  Beautiful on short runs but wearying on longer runs.  In those pre speed limit days cruising in the mid eighties (fast for those days) up the A303 the oil temp use to rise and the oil pressure fall - it really ought to have had an oil cooler fitted as standard.  Had it for about 3 years until father died and I needed a larger car.  Great fun to drive.

Thanks Matt.

Tuned down the resolution and PnG looked like an arcade game from the 90-ies :)
Frame-rate was ok-ish but then PC froze again after 30 minutes.
Won't bother you guys with disco's so I hope you have a good race.

Oh well, weather forecasts are not that well for tomorrow evening so probably was late anyway  :-\

Thanks for those recollections Bill  8) My first ever Mini a '67 850 also had no syncro on first which was a nightmare with the dog leg gear stick. It also had a large hole in the front driverside well so I could check if the road was wet by lifting the carpet.....nice feature I thought :)

I've heard the expression "on the cam" before but haven't got a clue what it means ?? (sorry for drifting off topic here)

Graphics solved ;D Turning the resolution down made a bit of difference, got up to around 20fps. But then set shader level to DX8 & instantly 60fps. So all set for tomorrow. ;D

Try taking the side off your PC Alex, or force the fan speed to be high manually
"On Cam" means to get into the power band, which is to some extent decided
by how much overlap, lift, and how steep the ramp is on the lobes, so how
fat it gets the valves fully open. Higher compression also tends to push the power
band up the rev range. So when the egine start s to pick up as the revs get into
the power band, you are on cam.
Now, tell me you were joking so I can look foolish

strange night for me.
Race 1
I quali in top spot and then hit the wall driver's right exit the garden fence. I recover and take the lead back from Ade a couple laps later, but found what appeared like I was racing myself with around 10 minutes to go. It turns out my car was left stranded in the vacinity of the garden fence. At least I had the opportunity to redeem myself in race 2.

Race 2
GSB and I had a real dog fight for the pole. He would have had it by a couple tenths, but he ran out of time and the session ended. Race time, I accidently let my foot off the clutch on the grid and promptly got a stop/go. I came in to serve my penalty at full chat. When I saw my pit board, I selected Stop/Go, but also saw a 2 next to it. I thought they nabbed me for speeding (didn't test) so I went around and into the pits again. Upon seeing the pit board, I didn't see another stop/go. I didn't want any fuel or tires so I hit escape. Wrong button.

Nice to see Ade, Geoffers and Matt had a close battle in race 2.

Oh well. I can see how the format would work. I've got some issues to work out with timed race lengths as the 1st race ended early.

Despite never having done a lap or even heard of this track, it was good fun. Liked the track layout a lot and sure we can have some more good races there with different cars.

Race 1 i was really enjoying hustling the daytona around, it sounded glorious and handled well for a heavy beast. Alas the start was total confusion chaos as half of us didnt see the lights and half did !  Was all good and enjoying my race until i hit the kerb awkwardly through 'the gate' and speared into the wall opposite!  :o

Race 2, was good fun, battling from the start, at one point a pack of 5 or so of us were having mini-mayhem through the twisties. Got past 2 cars in one corner with some deft driving and found myself 5th where i stayed for an age. Got a mid race spin through the gate..again!..and lost some time, and gradually lap by lap Tibs reeled me in and after a short battle, got past to take home the place ahead. Well done mate, kept me on my toes ! Finished 4th or 5th. :)

I enjoyed that, cheers Mike :)

Happy with my quali pace in R1 but got skinned alive by Mike and Geoff, great laps. I couldn't see lights at start and apologies to all those around me. Had good fun coming back up through the field and mixing with the Elans. Tis a match up I would like to try again. Great stuff from Ade up front who I couldn't really match for pace, and was miles away from in style ;D

Thanks to Ade for brilliant mini setup. Made it into a twirly kinda spinny top thing which I liked. Worked well but Mikes s/g was a real shame . Nice pace Ade and Matt.

Thinking about it, the GBGTL Mini races were amongst the best races I've had even though I don't like them. Organise some more mini adventures and I'll probably moan, then praise the racing ::)

Lets hope next couple of weeks are the final ones with PnG2.1 and Santa brings us version 3, its on my list and I've been a good boy (mostly).

Used Geoffers trick and turned on DirectX8. Still hitting frame rate in the 20-ies but at least PC did not crash.
2nd race however the framerates were good again (40-ies at busy places) and I only adjusted seating position (somewhat lower)  ???

Loved the Mini's. Reminds me of the go-karts. Apologies for the first 1/2 a lap. The red mist got hold of me.

Replays and Results Posted

Was on for a great duel race one. but I went a tad wide and got stuck onthe fence, and it really was
sticky, chucked me up in the air and ontop my nose. Alomst caught Ade but ran out of laps, finished at
lap 10 with 4:30 still on the clock.
Set race 2 to 13 laps instead of 20 mins, and that seemed about right, was surprisingly quick in the mini
found that it went better without the 1 hour and 19 mins worth of fuel I was practicing with....
followed Geoffers and Ade for a few, then 1st Geoff then Ade lost it and I ended up half a mile behind
SBG.

Well that was a night  of surprises.  On Wednesday, I could hardly keep on the track with the Elan but thought I'd sorted the Mini - thanks to Mikes "crank up the rear roll bar".  Last night the Elan really clicked and it flew, whereas I wasn't competitive in the Mini.

In Race 1 practice/qualifying, had an interesting little battle with Ian in his Daytona, I guess we were both on fast laps,  Ian pasted me and had a wiggle allowing me to get by.  Neither of us wanted to give way so we had some fun.  Couldn't see the lights so I also missed the start, made a few places due others errors and was just getting in the groove when Mark spun out of the last turn stopping almost dead centre of the track.  We both decided to move in the same direction resulting in me T-boning him.  Then approaching the little chicane, joining two parts of the track, I realised too late that the red car in front was actually stationary and tried to go around him resulting in a big off - which didn't do my poor old Elan any good.  I just managed to stay far enough ahead of Alex for comfort and that was that.

Race 2 qualified last and stayed last I think watching the cars ahead drawing away from me lap by lap.

On the whole a good nights fun - it changed my previous view of the track, thanks for organising Mike.  Are you considering any thing for next Thursday or is it too close to Christmas.  If not Happy Christmas to y'all and see you all refreshed in the new year ready for another Series.

I think a week off would be best. With next week being the 23rd, I'm sure some will need the extra bit of time to do some shopping. Let's use the regular time slot for a group practice session for the IROC Riverside race if you aren't out shopping or partying.

A good couple of fun races, unfortunately I managed to crash in both just as I was getting designs on Ade's 2nd places.

Thanks for the setups Mike, I couldn't get on with the Elan one, too easy to lose the rear, but the Mini one was great. I had tried the Britax Mini a few times before & had a reasonable setup for it, but every time I tried improving it, it got worse, but this was much better.

Like Bill, I won't be out in the IROCs. I have tried a few laps at Riverside to see if I could get the hang of it, but couldn't keep it on the track for more than a couple of laps, so no chance of lasting 80! ::)

PS: If any of you P&G fans fancy a race this Sunday (19th), we are running one over at NoGrip, LimeRock in the wet with some real slow stuff.
