The Lawrence Clemo Memorial Trophy

All members welcome.

Qualifying: RANDOM GRID
Race: 20:40 (40 laps = ~70mins)

Cars allowed: Jaguar E-type, TVR Griffith 400, Lotus Elan, Porsche 904 GTS Download this (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#post_porsche904gts)

Time of Day Setting: 17:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: 2x

Server: simracing.org.uk LCMT
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

I can't make it.  :(

The gig for my music course (effectively one of my A-Level exams as I'm being marked on it) is on the 12th and it's on from 7 til 10. If it were anything else I'd join you.

Off to Brugges early Friday on a coach tour for a few days, so I'll have to see how things go. Like to drive for this event because as well as racing against him in a couple of leagues, we were both ex Royal Air Force Apprentices - our times at RAF Halton overlapped.

hi just DL Tthe 904 ... hquestion when i open up the GTL folder and go into Game data i see that they both have sound and teams... however sound goes to cars and cars goes to 904... in 904 there are aload of other smaller files .. do i need to move them individually to the GTL FOLDER ...

Dave, are you aware that by clicking on the big red words saying "Download this" you will be led to a page where you will find download links to specific track/cars?

Usually these work  ::) and you will then get to download a lovely lovely self extracting .exe file that will take out all the guess work about what should go where. All you need to do is tell it where you have your sim installed.

What times and fuel consumption you folks getting?

With Elan, I'm getting a nat's over 2:00 but will need to find a lap with consumption of about 13.5 laps/tank full.  Of course I expect the winner will lap me so I suppose it's no sweat really.

Bill, I was expecting the Elan to use under 2 litres per lap at a lap speed in the region of 1:52

Thanks Tony, I guess there are other places where I must drive it in a higher gear (found 2 yesterday and knocked off 4 secs).  Alternatively perhaps I need to look at a higher final drive - any tips from Elaners who are lapping in 1:52s would be appreciated.  Don't expect to get a chance for another drive till next week, so you folks have plenty of time after tonight's race.

Bill, I think your final gearing ratio has to depend on if/when your hitting the limiter at the end of that long start/finish straight

Also the fuel figure I gave in an earlier post did not take into account the fuel modifier so I would say the fuel used would be under 3 litres per lap. Plus after some driving in the Elan I'm unable to get anywhere close to the quoted 1:52's. But I expect some drivers will.

Having taken the week off work, I thought I was going to get to race gtl this week... Glad you pointed out the early start time, as there's almost no chance I can get online that early these days. The can usually join ok for the normal 8:40 start.
So looks like I'm another dropout unfortunately. :(

Welcome back Jaqen  :)

Make sure your .plr file is edited as instructed in the race announcement. This race will have a pitstop.

I advise anyone who hasn't done a race pit stop to practise this. Not knowing what to do can lose many seconds and places.

Still haven't done any pracci for this, but I'll certainly be there. Know the track from a few races at the bude and love the 904 so it's an obvious choice, but won't it be a bit quick in this company?

Any laptimes to aim at?

Yes it probably will although I've been testing the TVR tonight and that's awfully quick too, although the tyre wear is a concern. My best so far is 1:55 so aliens should be doing 1:52's I would think.
The cars were selected as they were the first four casualties from the ECCC.

TVR 1:50
Elan 1:51
904-6 1:51
Jag 1:53

the past shows that the 904/4 should be as fast as the Elan, so the 904/6 and maybe the TVR should be 1 or 2s faster.

Team Psuedo can announce that half of it is wayy off the pace with 55.9 and 56.1 respectively in 904-6 and TVR respectively
Jag is 57s not tried Locust. Will probably take the 904-6 being as I haven't run it yet anywhere.

Thanks Tony.  I'm correctly geared but hoped that I had another higher ratio available  ::) - there isn't. Had a quick look at track today with an all Elan practice field they were in the 1:50 to 1:52 bracket, rode with them and no way am I going to be able to match that.  :'(  So I guess it's more practice, tinker with my trusted setup and hope to find more speed.  Looking at some of the times I guess I'll be lapped at least once so fuel should be OK at 3x13 laps.  ;D

Bill, don't worry unduly about the AI times. Their all  :alien:. I managed a 1:54 once yesterday night in the Elan but mostly it's consistent 1:55's. I wouldn't expect you to pit more than once unless you suffer damage. Send me a pm if you want my setup and I'll sort that tonight.

Setting car up is one thing, driving it is another.    Your setup looks too loose as our US colleagues would say, I prefer sharp turn in - my old reactions aren't quick enough for catching loose rear end.  :wheelchair:

Still crawling around at 1:56,6 in the TVR, 1:56,75 in the 904/6 and 1:57,7 in the 904/4.

 :wheelchair:

Really don't know yet which car to choose. Don't want to take the Elan again.

Hope to make it in time for tomorrow's event.

 :scooter:

Btw: one of my favorite tracks although I'm not the fastest there.

Is the practice server up and running now ?

I don't see it in the Lobby, but that might be due to my reinstalling GTL.

It's set fir simulation, and I did install the lobby fix.

Anything else I missed ?

Just joined the server with no problems. A pretty hard track to learn IMO, I couldn't get anywhere the laptimes mentioned earlier in this thread. 1.54.xx was my best shot.

I met some GTL-Legends out there tonight, and I was relieved to see, that they also had problems learning their way around the track  ;D

I hope I can make it back for tomorows race, if not I hope you have fun.

Crikey you haven't made this easy for us part timers Tony :) Track is fast as hell and it all looks the same. That said, when I finally worked where it all was, awesomely fast and flowing in the TVR. Did I mention that this track is fast?

54s in the 904 which is nice through those sweeping corners, but the TVR will have the grunt where it matters I reckon. Should be a good un....just hope I can make it as it's looking a bit 50/50 atm.

IMPORTANT

It appears that for some time the practise server has been running with the fuel modifier set to 3x and not the race setting of 2x.

I would suggest that all drivers check their fuel consumption rates in the online practise session now running.

Yes that was my original fuel problem.  ??? Good news is that fuel consumption is now OK and in an offline race just broke into the 1:56s {couple of setup tweaks).  8)  Only problem is I'm still a carp driver and terribly inconsistent, put in a batch of good laps followed by a batch of "off track" laps.  ::)

I am hoping that my race pace will be enough, but so far my best is 55.9 in the 904-6
Only done a few laps in each car, so I'll run lot sin the 904 later and maybe I can get the
times down a bit.... There is one corner in paritcular that fools me every time, after the
fast section you go over a brow and to a left hand hairpin that is way slower than I expect
it to be, I went straight into the fences there several times.

Oh yes, I know it well. That one and the left turn hairpin after the fast downhill bit, seem to brake too early but it's just enough to make it. Brake too late and I've overshot and into the litter.

Apart from the over zealous starts by some, was a clean race for me. Followed Teamy Phil round for
some laps, had a half hearted attempt at a pass now and then, but after passing and falling off,
was happy to follow round for a while after all it was an hour or so's race...
eventually took evasive action into the gravel in the left hairpin to avoid a shunt as I seemed
to be braking quite a bit later  :o

Dropped back 8 secs or so after that, had given Sqrtr an easy pass into the same corner earlier
as I wanted him past and up the road, so I could continue the tussle with Phil, but Phil was finding his
legs by then, adnd I sat behind for a while watching Sqrtr try a pass and not make it stick more than
once  :) had been able to catch Phil earlier, but as my tyres went off I was running 2 or more secs
a lap slower, and came out of the pits the same 8 secs back, but then kept making errors trying
different lines, and even with perfect laps at best I could just hold the gap at 20 secs.
Looks like Phil passed Sqrtr near the end as well, so well done Pseudos
Respect to Laurie for inspiring this event, which pulled in a great attendance  8)

Tony, will you be letting Lawrie's son know that we held a race in memory of his father? Be a nice gesture.

I'll certainly try

A big thank you to everyone who turned out to honour Laurie's memory. Especially Ginsters who I know hates races with pit stops. Thanks mate, nice to see you in GTL again.

It was my intention to create an event that most drivers would find challenging. So it had to be a track never used before in UKGTL, a long race with a pit stop, poor daylight and random grid. You've only yourselves to blame for the car choice as these were the first four casualties of the ECCC cut  :D. All those who finished should give themselves a

Nice to have the Dummers join us. Please turn up again for the next BSCC which should be a easier event in all respects.

I had a fairly quiet race. Did my usual "forgot to select 1st gear on the start grid" (did you notice i had pole again ) so was in fourth place by the time I made it up the hill. Then slowly slid backwards as more talented racers caught and passed me. Had a little disagreement with Hotlap when he spun me but he was a gent and let me pass him. By the time it came to pitting my car was almost totalled due to various off-road excursions mainly involving hitting barriers. Therefore when I left the pits I was lapped by everyone. Never made it to the finish unfortunately as I had that ghost track thing happen again where suddenly I was the only driver going around the track. Still I was enjoying the track so much I still kept going until the finish.

Hopefully we will hold a similar event next year. Until then it just remains for me to pass over the virtual trophy to our new champion Ade. Well done sir.  :notworthy:

yeah nice one, disappointed I knackered my suspension & just couldn't carry on at about 3/4 distance.

Had fun with my pitting too, came in & left seconds later having not asked for extra fuel :clown:

Thanks for organising Tony & thanks for the memories Laurie :thumb up1:
Legsy I'm disappointed I thought the Team Oldie Racing motto was "Never Give Up" even if the things hanging together by the last bolt get it to the line.  ;D

:) I had praticed this track a week before presuming that the TVR would be the best car for the job. Yes I suppose in Ade's case it was but Ade's in a league of his own most of the time so you don't count mate!!!  ;D I had set my TVR up really soft as this track is quite undulating but when it came to race day and seeing how much better most of the Porsche drivers were doing I did a last min panic grabbed an old setup for the German beastie and was still fine tuning it during quali. Any way the car felt really nice on a full tank and even better in the race.  :)

I was some where behind the the big stuff up during the start and as the metal parted in front of me   :o  :o  I went for it popping up in P6 I think? I seem to remember a couple of Elans being badgered by Phspok and after a few laps managed to pass all three.  ;D I was then in P3 but with some fast guys behind I thought it better to push on as hard as I could. I closed on Geoffers by tenths of a second, which felt really good as Geoff usually disappears into the distance, and eventually closed the gap to under 4 seconds before Geoffers went off on a left hand hairpin gravel bound.  ;) Its a petty Geoff I was hoping for a battle.  :-\

Now in P2 with Ade 17 seconds up the road and holding station, but at least he wasn't pulling away.  ;D I pitted on lap 20 coming in almost side ways locked up trying desperately to get the speed down with the limiter only turned on midway down the pit lane my heart sank with a stop go for sure. Faffed around in the dark trying to find the key board (it was light when the race started) fueled and left holding my breath for a lap and yippee no "stop go" how lucky is that. ;D People in front pitted and I passed Ade in the pits and led the race for a while but as I said at the begging my car went best on full fuel and new tyres now it was on low fuel and old tyres. Ade caught me with JH close behind I managed to stall them for a few laps but they were quicker in the end.  :) So finished P3 but had a really great race with everyone driving very cleanly (except I guess at the start) Brilliant Tony same again next year please.   :thumbup2: :thumbup2: :thumbup2:

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/GTL/LimeMounMay11/)

Expecting a lonely race but got quite some entertainment partly because of  quicker drivers fighting their way up the field.
Steady race without major errors so that is a good race, even finishing just one lap down from alien territory.

Shame that my regular fellow competitors (and Lawrence's) all bogged down during the race (Bill, WT, Sandor, Eifel).
After pitstop feeling smug about 8th pos until I found out that I was running last  ::)
How's that for an attrition rate..

Congrats to Ade Vettel and thanks Tony for organising.

Very enjoyable event, & a good one to remember Laurie.

Had fun even though I never really had a dice with anyone  :(. Was 3rd behind Ade & SBG for the first few laps until SBG went off at the tricky downhill RHer. Held 2nd with Mark gradually gaining until I got out of shape braking for the tight LHer & went off into the gravel. Dropped to 3rd but a few laps later I went off again at T1 & dropped to 4th behind SBG again.

Stayed 4th until the pitstops started & led for a couple of laps until my stop, all went well but came out in 5th place just behind Sqter. He opened a bit of a gap but then spun his Porsche & I regained 4th & stayed there until the end.

Congrats to Ade, Jaqen & Mark.

And thanks to Tony for organising. I hope Laurie enjoyed it from above.

:) Just looked at the positions lap chart and realised I went from P17 to P8 in one lap. That was some pile up! I must watch the replay.

Thanks for putting this one on Tony :thumbup1: love the TVR so it was a no brainer,  had a last minute panic and remembered it threw me off twice on low fuel  the last time i used it so a quick knock with a big hammer on the rear springs sorted that out.
Got a good start and kept it in the lead until the pit stop (got it all out of shape trying to get it into the pit lane) and then missed my box  :o a bit of back and forth and the board came up, filled her up and dropped 2 places in the pits.
Got the places back in the end with the grunt of the old girl down the straights ;D

                                                             Cheers Ade

I am sad that I missed the race but so proud that so many great racers were here to remember the great Ligel Canello.
Hats off gentlemen.
