Not driven the Indycar since the last time we did this!
A great combo, wonder if it's a bit more forgiving now!?

I've not driven it for a long time until I did some test laps to gauge the fuel economy and was very pleasantly surprised how easy it is to keep it on the track these days.

thinks I'll dust off the Indy car and see if I can get round the track not driven this since they went to the split road/oval layout at iRacing

if I can get it round the track is there room in this championship for another car ?

Just had the first go with this at RA, first flying lap with a full tank of fuel was 1.51.001 but didn't get any quicker as I kept chucking it at the scenery. Some more practice required I guess.

I've been too busy blasting the Corvette, Williams and Dallara round Spa of late.

Yes.  I'm trying to synch both series with the official ones where I can to give people opportunities to practice and maximise the availability of setups.

Obviously with the Rad and DP running in separate series that's more difficult but I'll do my best.

first flying lap with a full tank of fuel was 1.51.001

I'm sure Gary'll be on the pace with a bit of practice though.

Try PJ Stergios' setup from the main forum.  He uses a front bar to give the car stability which makes it great over long runs.  That makes it understeer into the slow stuff but you can compensate by using a lower gear, not trail braking and turning the wheel more.

If I'm in the 1:49s on race fuel I'm damn sure you can get under 1:53.  It's just a case of driving each corner on it's merits.

1.50.4 for me after loads of effort! 11gals of fuel.
Tried PJ's setup but I am at least 2 secs slower in....
seems to come down to....
I can't brake late / efficiently enough, then I understeer and miss the apex, then am late on the power etc. ... :(

At least with my setup I brake earlier, mostly find the apex and am on the power sooner!
Frustrating... feel like I need to be single again  ;D so I have way more time to get used to it!

Gearing is definately helping. Might give my old setup a go with that gearing.

No problem mate, happy to help.

A lot of the quicker boys use shorter gearing I think because they were changing up a lot earlier than I do.  I like PJs geraing though as it gives you the option of using the long 1st gear on the slower corners to recover if you get it a bit wrong and lose apex speed.

It'll be interesting to see how many people we get tonight.  It's worryingly quiet round here.

Paul

It's been a long time since I raced the Indycar, but reading that there is quite a few people faster than the previous records, it look as if this could be a good challenge.

Hopefully get on and get some practice and get a race in tonight.

Awesome, I just spent 2 hours driving the best car ever made for sim-racing. Loved it. Needed the practice as I was testing a load of various different setups to see which one was best. Ended up using my original with new wing settings and brake balance. Set a PB in practice by nearly half a second to be 2nd fastest in that session, not far off it to take 2nd in qualifying and then came 2nd in the race, so obviously the right result for me. :)

Well done to Mike on the win. The mistake I made into the hairpin lost me the position early on to you, but I think you probably would have got by at some point anyway, but it was going to be mighty mighty close. The mistake threw me for quite a while as I lost a little bit of confidence, but the second half of the race I mostly regained my composure to set some half decent race laps.

Thanks for hosting.

Not the best of nights for me. As I highlighted speed is not everything.

I was really comfortable and confident with the car right away. My old setup did not work too well, but after using the low downforce iRacing setup as a baseline I soon had a great car.

The car felt really good and it needed an error to throw it off. I knew where my limits were.

Qualifying went as well as I could hope. My target was to make the 46s which is exactly what I did.

Race started well and I was about 8 seconds ahead after consistently putting in mid 48s on race fuel. Just went in a little too hard into the last bend and the rear came around. By the time the car came to rest, the field were coming thick and fast and there was no safe place to join. Had to wait a long time.

I then was pushing too hard making lots of silly mistakes costing a few tenths here and there trying to go too fast.

Passed Gary Tall and then for the first time today hit that invisible bump into the braking zone for T3 and that sent me straight on missing the bend and giving the position back to Gary again.

I was going mad by this point.

Pit stop went ok, but my exit was not well timed. Martin was shooting up and we were going to arrive at T1 at the same time. I backed out, then Martin backed out more. Right after I stupidly went off at T2 right in front of Martin.

Again sorry to Mark about the aggressive pass. As I explained it was not my intention to even think about passing. I thought I was allowing enough extra distance for braking but still had too much pace. Luckily you had the awareness and I managed to hug the inner kerb to avoid any accident. Thanks.

Grats to Michael on a great drive. Best driver on the night.

I will post my setup at Team Shark for those who want it.

Tough night with the dallara, last yeras set up just didnt work and only figured out towards the end off practice that the more wing i took off the better the car felt .   Made a cock up at the start when i missed a gear going up from 1st to 2nd and was bouncing off the limiter and Martin had know where to go and hit me..Sorry bout that Martin. ::)   Got passed my team mate Ian although i think he might have helped me a bit ?  and was then stuck on the tail of Gary T's car . I think Gary had the pace to pull away as i was struggling on the brakes but he made an error at the last corner and i got by.   Stayed out till lap 14 but didnt gain any time and came back into the pack in 5th with Brian gaining on me .  Didnt bother defending against Brian as he was 2 secs a lap faster and brought it home in 6th.

Had major problems with my pedals and had a 2.5" dead zone on the brake pedal which left me with not alot of modulation but managed to get used to it.   Think they need a good overhaul.

Grats to podium and everyone in front of me ..tooo fast!! :o

Cheers

Great race!

Brian was a second clear of everyone at the top and then we had 4 cars setting extremely competitive times in qually and I only managed 4th on the grid.  It looked like being a great scrap for 2nd place.

Started well and got round the outside of Paul T in T1, which proved to be vital as Simon and I started pulling away from him.  Stayed close to Simon looking for an opening, but then he made an unexpected mistake under braking and I was past.  I gave it everything to get some breathing space and then got an even less expected present when I passed Brian parked in the gravel!  After that I was lapping in very low 49's and stopped at half distance with a 7 second lead.  Once the stops had shaken out, I was still a good 6 seconds ahead and was able to ease off a little and bring it home.

This car is just superb.  My favourite cars in iRacing are the FW31, the Dallara and the Radical in that order.

Well done Simon and Gary for the podium. :D

Grabbed that Stergios setup and just plugged away for the hour or so before qualifying hoping to dial myself in to it. It didn't feel that good and tweaking the front wing and BB improved things slightly but I think I should have tried digging out an alternative from somewhere. The car is enjoyable to drive but I seem off the pace compared to other cars we have used.

Really glad i stayed for the race now  8)

Yesterday was the first time ive driven this car properly and spent a good 5 hours learning it which i think paid off.

Brian was in another world but i was pleased to be around the pace of Simon, Mike and Paul and knew i could be competitive if i didn't make any mistakes.

Start was nice and clean and i settled in behind Paul even having a few cheeky looks a few times but never had the confidence to try anything. Decided to go long in the first stint and when i saw Paul and Simon pit i thought im in with a chance here as i was keeping up with a heavier car. Came in i think lap 14 and hit the marks well but was unsure how much fuel i needed for the final 9 laps, inevitably i put to much in but still managed to jump Paul by nearly 7 seconds  :o and maybe if i had put the correct amount in been very close to Simon who was 5 seconds ahead and maybe pushed him a bit but i couldn't really make any impression on him and thought just get it home safe for a cracking 3rd.

Once i got comfortable with this car i really started to like it and when you know where you can push and where you cant its a brilliant drive.

Grats to Mike and Simon.

My first race in the Dallara and I'd not put a huge amount of time into it. I was using the PJ Stergios setup but as the race went on it just didn't suit me and the understeer was killing me.

Dan was snapping away behind me and I gifted him the place with running wide at the last turn, I then did it again the next lap. I did whittle the gap back down for a few laps but then let the first of three Brian Kerr's overtake me and slipped away. A very poor pitstop was the icing on the cake.

I finished, I quite like the car, must do better! ;D

Congrats to Mike, Simon and Gary

Gary

That was fun.

I've not really driven the Dallara since just after it came out.  Then I liked the feel of it but it didn't grab me.  With the tyre damping changes it's come alive though and I love the way you can really push it.

In practice I'd been quicker in qually trim than race and that proved correct.  I was delighted with my qually time which was a PB.  I got a bad start and Mike got the drop on me up the hill and I slotted in behind.  I kept up for a while but I was under severe pressure from the car behind who I thought was Dan and started to drop back.

I held "Dan" off till the pitstop when I came in the same time as Mike and Simon.  Having to drive round Mike slowed me down into my pitbox but I lost most time on my outlap which was toilet.

After the stops I saw I was in front of Dan so was delighted but strangely there was some bloke called Gary in front of me but I assumed he hadn't pitted yet.  When we reached the 20 lap mark I started to wonder if he'd modified his fuel tank and was extremely puzzled when I came in fourth behind him.  It was only when I looked at the replay later that I realised it had been Gary following me and he'd jumped me at the stops.

I think he got so far ahead because I'm guessing he didn't change tyres whereas I did.  More testing required I feel before Brands.

Congratulations to Mike, Simon and Gary who all drove beautifully and thanks to everyone else for letting me beat them. :)

This is my first race export so please bear with me results wise.

Paul

Reasonably pleased how that went for me, shame about the first lap with Oily and Martin coming together ahead at the start which i guess stemmed from the late start at the line rather than when the pace car went. Ended up waiting for the road to clear then Martin gave me a bit of a major love tap into turn 3. After letting Martin through i was just trying to keep the gap steady and concentrate on driving. When Martin went off just tried to keep it steady. Not sure why my race times were so off compared to beforehand, maybe damage, not sure.

Do people use the same setup for every track? Am i going to need a wildly different car for other tracks?
