With baby number two due the following day, I'm going to struggle to make this one :'(

Might have to put me down as a last minute sub, which could work ok if we're going to get two teams this time... (just don't tell the wife :death:)

Title: Re: [GTR2] 24H GTWeb Spring 2011
Post by: lazlow on January 02, 2011, 09:54:15 PM +0000
It done using a relay system using 2 servers.....the race is started on one server, which is 3hrs in length...then when that race comes to an end the second driver starts another 3hr race on server two...and so on, and so on until 8 sessions have been completed resulting in 24hrs racing.

3 hours is too long for me, but if a driver is needed (i.e. if 2 teams are made) I will be there and willing to finish the race :)

For this new endurance race, it is on the Sakhir International Circuit, located in Bahrain in the Persian Gulf, that GTWeb awaits you. This circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke in 2004 in the middle of the desert, you will be offered in its original configuration with its fifteen turns. We hope you will enjoy this track.

I heard that the minimum is 3 drivers, but boy that must be crazy

I think we should count how many drivers are up for it, who would be up for 2 stints, and what hours each driver wants. As I said, I'd be happy to join but not bothered if spots are full :)

If its the same format as last time, we need 8 drivers all doing 3 hr stints. I see six LMP drivers so far, any takers for other two spots? How do we enter a team?

I thought the graveyard 12-3 am slot was great fun last time so bagsy that :)

Have just created a GT1 team.

Your league is able to engage more than 1 team but each pilot must run only in one of them.

I think driving more than one stint is allowed, Spanner, so this should saturate your driving appetites. ;)
Do we have enough drivers for two teams then? I'd still be for GT1, though if we only have one team with majority for LMPs I'll gulp it down and learn some new stuff. :)

Ginsters, as your a veteran at this 24hr lark ;D, I would suggest registering an LMP2 team under the "UKGTR" banner on GTWEB.....I can't see why we shouldn't be able to scrabble together enough drivers for 2 teams.
I believe Spanner named the GT1 team "UKGTR Team GT1" so "UKGTR Team LMP2" should be fine?

I maybe a "veteran" but Spanner is the man for the French forums. I'm embarrassed to say I'm completely lost there, its an age thing I guess  ;) I'm sure he could bung is in for a LMP2 there? Ta in advance.

To be honest, I've never driven any of the LMP2 mods so any version of them will do for me. All look fun to me.

We can't put in two Lmp2 teams(sadly) each of our teams has to be in a different group (so max three ukgtr teams).

With regards me driving, I'd absolutely love to join in, but as the race is on the day before baby #2 is due.... I'm not certain how certain I can be of attending till quite last minute...

That said, I would love to be kept in the loop as my Mrs is usually too good to me & I'd have high hopes of attending (especially if she's a week or so early as we anticipate). If somebody would be able/willing to do a 2nd slot if I can't make it, I would be most gratefull. But I know that's a big ask. Let me know if anyone wants to volunteer :)

P.s. I'd be up for either series, just to be able to take part.

I would do both classes so put me where im needed. I could probably do 2 stints if needed.

When a league engage more than 1 team, we expect that the teams were in different categories.

GTWeb will run with 10 teams :

3 teams LMP1
4 teams LMP2
3 teams GT1

The link is here

https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=8826.msg160013#msg160013

You install this into the GTR2 directory then in the subdirectory created run the batch file which will sync your install files and download the files individually. There isnt a single download for it yet.

Best to use a clean install as well.

Theres two servers when i looked, a day and night one.

Remember you have to connect via direct ip in game. Look on their forum for the address.

Very impressed with the mod, happy to do LMP1 as a sub for LMP2  :) as well.

Doing flying laps in each of the LMP2's i found the Radical to be quickest by far. Any preference on the LMP1 models? AMR would be cool but not sure on the petrol/diesel balance in this mod

Its not class specific. The titles say GT1 and LMP but you can call it what ever you want. Car choice is via a dropdown which features all clases anyway.

Ok, GT1: which car? We tried C6R, so I'd rule this one out. Of the new cars I never drove Nissan GT-R.  :)

I tried most of these cars at the time of the last GTWeb event. I could manage the LMP2s ok and as Purdie said, the Radical would be the car to be in. The LMP1s on the other hand were extremely hardcore. The Aston and the Audi were slightly less demanding than the Peugeot, but personally I'd need a lot of practice to get any of them round.

Ok, GT1: which car? We tried C6R, so I'd rule this one out. Of the new cars I never drove Nissan GT-R.  :)

I don't like GT1s usually but if the Nissan GT-R is the same as the bude version, it is an excellent drive and will be quick on those long straights.

If everyone isn't happy about running in the LMP1's we should change back to LMP2's....I only changed it because GTWeb are under subscribed to LMP1.

@Spanner: Did you get a chance to register me in the GT1 team?

I can do but there's no hurry! We dont have to sort out who's driving till 17th March. I havent put anyone down in either team yet.

The track is pretty simple with plenty of straights and straight braking zones, LMP1s shouldnt be too difficult round here. Remember with LMP2's your likely to be sharing the track with both classes over the course of the race. So are going to have to both overtake and be lapped. At least in the GT1's last year your at the bottom of the chain you let everyone past!

Just tried a few of the GT1's and i liked the GT40 best and the engine sound is great. Corvette felt horrible, couldnt get it to turn in  but strangely i was faster in it  ???

Was doing 53's with half a tank after a few laps.

Yeah i found the LMP1 instantly more of a handful over the LMP2's, not surprisingly I suppose!

Only driven the Aston, Acura and Audi.... think we need to find something easy going rather than pace. 3 hrs is a loooong time  ::)

Amen to that brother Purds! 3 hours is brutal but I'm looking forward to it.

As much as I'd like to step up, two stints will definitely be beyond me so we either need one of you maniacs to volunteer or we need to work on recruitment!

I'm sure I'm missing an obvious link but could somebody let me know where can I download these from btw? I think I have them as part of the bude installer but not sure if they're identical.

Are we going to start running a practice server too btw?

Post by: spanner on February 07, 2011, 02:11:03 PM +0000
Ah i see youv'e turned up! Read the thread! i post the link for it in the last page or so. you download the app for it and place it in your GTR2 directory, run this and it will sync your directory pulling the correct files down with it.

This isnt one of your iracing events were you can turn up at random, late (as usual) then crash out!  ;) ;D

Everyone who wants to do the race MUST join one of their practise servers and get yourself on the leaderboard. This will ensure they reconise you and your profile correctly and there is a 107% rule for each class which everyone must meet. Everyone needs to ensure their profile at GT-web includes their in game driving name to do this.

No we are not going to be running practise server.

Spanner I wish you'd just say what you're really thinking sometimes  ;D

You're safe don't worry - I wouldn't come unprepared to a team event like this, bending iRacing cars after a few laps only serves to wind me up but I'd be a wanted man if I ditched one of these beasts through just not trying! Obviously it could well still happen even when I do but it's the same for all of us.

Anyway nice one! Have found the link (http://www.gtweb-live.com/site/index.php?file=Download&op=categorie&cat=15).

Why won't there be at least one SROU practice session?  ???

We'll need to practice the change overs on the server, same as last time. Even with the pracci I sped into LMP1 at the start of my stint which wasn't ideal. Could only beat that by clattering a UKGTR car this time out :)

If we are entering LMP1, what cars are available? I really, really dont want to drive an Audi or Pigot. Diesel, ghastly cars and all that. Aston or something Italian would be nice.

Hahaha beautiful work Ian, it's nice to know you've set the bar high heheh.

With you on the diesel thing, if I can avoid a whistling in my ear for three hours that would be preferable :). I'm hoping the Aston is nice to drive personally, it's a work of art, although we'll need to do better than they managed at Le Mans last year!

I recommend using the map plugin for GTR2, it will help loads when looking to see if its clear to drive off.

Reading the rules the start procedure has changed slightly. I'm guessing they have changed the tracks starting grid positions to line up along pit wall as it says you dont not do a warmup lap. You start straight from the pit wall. However the picture in the rules as them lined up in a single line which will make the start a bit more dangerous. Angling out from the pit wall did help to some degree before.

GT-Web has posted pictures of the cars available in this thread somewhere.

I have only driven the cars on standard setup with 50L at Sakhir....

The Aston is my favourite (or I want it to be  :)) but the closed cockpit cars will not be ideal for ease of driving. I was 5 secs slower than the Audi out of the box with the base setup but I can't draw any dispersions on pace just yet......

Just from a practicial point of view of the Aston has limited view than the open-cockpit cars (altho uglier!) do help with lapping and even some of the late apex's at this track.

Mind you my best lap is 1m53 (in Audi and 54s in LMP2 Rad) and some fastest laps are 1m41s  ???

Is it just me, or is this this a dreadful circuit for an endurance race  ::)

Rant warning.....

I've tried a handful of cars from each class now and all of them are so awkward in that tight middle section. The remainder of the circuit (with the exception of that uphill off camber right-hander) is an A to B blast dependant only on braking points and traction on exit.

Sorry guys, but I'm out  :(

I have done a quick test of the 6 LMP1 cars and here's my opinion:

- Audi R15 & Peugeot: undriveable (for 3 hours anyway).
- Aston Martin & Lola: not so hard but still difficult, especially when the rear wants to go away at the end of the braking zones. Easy to make mistakes for me.
- Acura & Ginetta: the easiest to drive, and both currently at the top of the timesheets...

I think we should go for one of those 2, but I will gladly drive any of the 6 cars ;)

Comparing these 2 cars, the Acura feels a bit easier to drive, a little better on tyres and fuel, but a little slower as well. Acura probably the best choice for a long race.

Waiting for more opinions :)

I tried but can't join the team. Is it the team captain who adds/invites drivers, or how we do that?

And just a question about the race: if one of the drivers has to retire in his 3 hour race, how does that affect at the whole team result? Is it counted on number of laps done? For example if 1st driver retires on lap 1, then we start 2nd stint like 90 laps down?

It's the team manager, and only him, who can add pilots in his team(s).

When a stint is not completed (DNF, crash...), you'll be given free laps.
Everything about it is explained in the rules => Rules (http://www.gtweb-live.com/site/index.php?file=Download&op=description&dl_id=113)

In the practice standings it is ordered on 'Moyenne' (average?). What average is this? It can't be all the drivers laps surely?

"Moyenne" is the average of three consecutive laptimes  ;)

I guess this would be a very good idea. From the initial show of hands we had about 1.5 teams, but only a handful of people have been particularly active/ vocal in this as of late. Some of us are happy to do two stints but these would obviously need to be well spaced apart!

I would suggest that people consider what class and car they want to run. Our initial thinking was GT1 and LMP2. GT1 is fixed but there is no reason we cant do LMP2 or LMP1. It was only suggested to run LMP1, If people are more comfortable running LMP2 we shouldnt discount it. You might find more poeple available for LMP2 than LMP1.

This was posted by Lazlow a while ago:

Team Proposals -Rev2

GT1
Lazlow - GT1 (2 Stints)
Truetom - GT1
Spanner - GT1 (happy to do 2 stints)
Mark Jonzo - GT1
API - GT1
Gazza - GT1

LMP1
Ginsters - LMP1
Purdie - LMP1
Goldtop - LMP1 LMP2 only
Mr Oily - LMP1
Busi - LMP1
H@L - LMP1

Reserves
Legzy

So we are just about ok in GT1 assuming Lazlow and me do two stints. However If you guys want to do LMP1 then you have 5 drivers, maybe 6 if Legzy fancies LMP1 so some people are going to need to do two stints. And the way it works with two servers alternating you cant do them consecutively.

I'd be happy with the lmp1 acuna, I've only done a handful of laps in it, but it seemed a lot more comfortable than I expected and agree with Spanner that it feels easier than the GT1's :o

I anticipate being able to race (my mrs is very good to me really), but at this stage there remains a chance that I would have to pull out. Hopefully my mrs will have given birth at a suitable time in my race schedule

The practise sessions run right up to the qualifying session on the thursday before the race. As long as you set a time in any of them its fine.

I dont think you need to worry about the 107% rule Paul! The LMP1 time is currently 1.48.092 which means Legzy and Oily are currently outside it.

Team and car selection -18/2
Driver registration 17/3

Paul takes 7th, does anyone mind if I take the 8th (Sunday 12h)? Otherwise the 1st (Sat 15h) but the rest are a no go for me :( if I was alone at home I could easily do the midnight ones

I can do any time. I ran at something like 2am to 5am last time. Excellent fun in the dark. ;D

I would be happy to do that again.

I could do 2 stints but, they would have to be one of the first ones and one of the last ones so I can sleep between stints. After doing the last 24 hour race I was very happy not to be doing 2 stints. If we could get 8 different drivers then that would be better I think.

If H@L & me are at oposite ends of the schedule, then if I can't make it for mine, maybe you could be backup for mine (or maybe we'd swap... :))

What are the timings of the stints?

As people have bagsied the 7th & 8th slots... maybe H@L & me could have the 1st & 6th? (just a suggestion)

8.  12h00 - 15h00 (11h00 14h00 UK- Spanner

I've just realised that the 7th slot is an 8am start rather than 9am, which is not brilliant for a late starter like me. I had avoided the last slot because of family commitments, but a 2pm finish would be fine. Any chance you fancy swapping to slot 7 Busi?

Here's a time trial from me in the LMP1:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.harrington/Paul968%20-%201_43_190.GTT

Not as fast as Busi but it might be useful until he posts one. I'd be interested in any feedback (esp from Busi) on my lap.

On the setup front, I've worked mainly using Busi's one, but with a couple of changes - I prefer soft front medium rears as the balance works better for me and the fronts and rears wear much more evenly, and I run a click more front springs as this seems to make little slides easier to catch, allowing me to push harder and get on the power earlier.

anybody else have problems with the mod.bat utility for syncro'ing all the mods and track?

I installed it to my GTR install like it say but when i run the bat file i just get endless error messages, like 'rsync@mkdir "/cygdrive/c:/gtr2......   and rysnc error: error in file 10 blah blah...

tried reinstalling it a few time and re-running but same problem. When it gets to the final hit a key to continue it just quits out the bat file.  ???

Am running win7 Pro 64bit, not sure if thats why ?  Its not installing anything except some random files in c:\gtr2\gtweb\gamedata. But they are just a few gdb files and the bat file itself.

I will have a look at your timetrial maybe tomorrow :) and are we decided on the Acura yet, or anyone else agreeing with the Lola, or Ginetta? I don't care, Acura would sound best for a long race and different drivers as I'd said.

Sounds like you've not installed it in the right places.

I download the file from gtweb and put in my GTR2 directory, run it and it will create a directory within your GTR2 firectory which has the updater files but it puts the cars in the gamedata/teams folder but in its own folder.

Another thing to try is taking ownership of the directory / files. In windows 7 you need to do this to change certain files on the hard disk.

I'm running Win 7 Home 64 bit and didn't have any problems running the bat file.
Have you tried giving the rsync.exe programme admin rights?

I also remember when I had problems installing a certain software ( I can't remember what now) I had to change my "User Account Control Settings".
Here's a link to the guide on how to do it (See Method 1) http://www.blogsdna.com/1815/how-to-disable-uac-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7-beta-1-build-7000.htm

Yes, but when you are trying to diagnose a problem you want all the information you can get - which files was it? which folders? What order? It won't cost you much time to give a complete list of all the errors messages (and the successful ones, as they may give clues too), but it could make the difference between you racing and not doing so.

right, tried Lazlows suggestion but that made no difference either.

Here are some of the errors the bat file is listing (far too many to write all here)

rsync: rename :/cygdrive/c/games/gtr2/gtweb/gtweb_mod...blah blah  cygiconv-2.dll": permission denied (13)
2or3 lines of that with dll files and then also rsync.exe: permission denied. (13)

further down:-

suppression des mfichiers temporaires *.hat
"the system cannot find the path specified"

same error for suppression des mods susceptibles de conflits.

then further down under "Debut synchronisation repertoire...gamedata/teams:
lots of rysnc:mk dir....blah blah LMP1 failed. No such file or directory (2)
rsync error: error in file 10 (code 11) at main.c(596)
Loads of this same error for each car class

and then same for sounds until finally asks to press a key to continue then quits out of bat file

Are you sure that the tool is installed in the GTR2 directory and not in GameData ?

Yeah those first errors are fine, even i get them.
But when you get to the Gamedata/teams section it should go straight away.

Its not installing anything except some random files in c:\gtr2\gtweb\gamedata. But they are just a few gdb files and the bat file itself.

Is this your File structure? having a gtweb folder in the GTR2 one isnt going to work.

c:\gtr2\gtweb\gamedata.
Looks like this could be your problem MJ....you seem to have a "gtweb" folder...this shouldn't be there?
Try reinstalling the GTWeb Mod24h Sakhir directly into you GTR2 folder then the update should work.

Here is my install locations. In the GTR2 directory which i have renamed GTR2-GTWEB is the original downloaded file, GTweb_Mod24h_Sakir.exe. Run this and it creates the Gtweb_Mod24h_Sakhir sub-directory which contains the updater.

Look to spanner directory structure, you need to have the same.

The tool only create a sub-directory named \Gtweb_Mod24h_Sakhir in the GTR2 directory. Teams directory must be GTR2\GameData\Teams and not GTR2\GTWeb\GameData\Teams.

My teams (and all other normal GTR2 sub-dirs) dir is as GTR2 installs it.  Its the bat file that cant do anything else for whatever reason.

To be honest, ive tried to get this working all week trying all sorts and have given up for now. Im also unsure now whether i could actually make that weekend as ive got the opportunity to take my 911 to a rolling dyno day that weekend which sounds a good day out  8)

Have you guys realised there are only 4 GT1 teams this time around? That doesnt give you much to race for 3 hours each, sadly  :(

I hope your PC skills are superior to your deduction skills! No team is listed with a car choice yet, you cant tell who will be running what other than some have it listed in their name!

You've definately done something wrong or else it would work. Clearly the updater isnt sitting in the right place as it cant see the right folders where its looking, if it could it would put the files there.

WARNING
We remind you that you have until Friday, February 18th 21:00 (Paris time) to register your teams for the competition and make your car choices. It won't be possible then to change your choices. Only driver registrations and driver changes remain possible until the date of Qualifications.

Are we all sorted now? What can we do to help Spanner :)

the teams have been changed so our car choices are set to those. I havent filled the teams out completely with drivers as its not required yet.

Here's a time trial from me in the LMP1:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.harrington/Paul968%20-%201_43_190.GTT

Not as fast as Busi but it might be useful until he posts one. I'd be interested in any feedback (esp from Busi) on my lap
Well thats a pretty good lap and after looking at it there's no area where you can improve a lot. But a few things I noticed in that particular lap, where you can gain at least a tenth or two in each:

- You seemed to brake early for T1 but then lifted and missed the apex. I think a good braking can earn you time.
- Little steering hesitation coming into T4, but the line and speed was good.
- Throttle hesitation coming out of the fast right-left (turn 7), that corner must be flatout
- Good apex speed coming out of T11, but could be yet a bit more using all the wide exit. Not much to improve there though.
- Same exiting final corner, you can maximize the exit speed using the exit kerb (but obviously being careful).

The lap is great for race cause you leave a little margin with the kerbs, these 5 points would be facing a quali attempt :)

I will post a hotlap (with replay as well) next week, currently working on the start of the Gamers Crib league.

Many thx  :) I agree on braking for T1, as this feels tricky. I right foot brake now, so those long stops are not as easy as they used to be. I am trying to hit the apex, but more often than not I use too much brake and understeer wide. I will hopefully get better at it with time. On the others, as you say I am leaving a tiny bit in reserve, but in the race would leave a bit more again I think (at the moment). Would be great to have a TT from you to follow round if possible.

Btw, we are still short of a few drivers. Anyone got any ideas for people to badger into taking part?  ;)

I'm not sure if anything is being organized on TS, but if not then we better start doing it :P

Here's what LMP1 drivers have been saying so far more or less put together (UK times):

1. 14h to 17h - ?
2. 17h to 20h - ?
3. 20h to 23h - ?
4. 23h to 02h - Mr Oily (he asked to 12 to 3am)
5. 02h to 05h - ?
6. 05h to 08h - ?
7. 08h to 11h - Busi
8. 11h to 14h - Paul

Rest of drivers:
Ginsters
Purdie
H@L
Legzy

If the list of drivers is correct, just 1 will have to make 2 stints. I can update this table as we keep deciding things, or correct me if anything is wrong. I am in 7th stint after swapping with Paul but I could change to 1st as well (rest are impossible for me).

There will be 17 to 19 teams in GT1 / LMP2 / LMP1.

3. 20h to 23h - Purdie
4. 23h to 02h - Ginsters
5. 02h to 05h - Mr Oily

Ok so everyone needs to jump on the server again and put some times in.

If you ever got it working Mark then yes you can join us, driver entries havent closed yet. The UAC setting is the first thing i swiched off!

Delete last car and last track details from PLR? Delete HAT files? Is your profile name as detailed on your GTWEB profile page?

my plr name is MarkJonzo same as it was at the GTW Road America event.

Tried my other srouk GTR2 install out and it works fine so something this mod has done has borked the other one, thought not sure what.

HAT dir is empty, PLR only shows the very last track and car you enter in game so it shows sakhir and Ford GT !  Odd that even the standard cars now dont work in that install.

I haven't set a TimeTrial lap yet (next week), but at the moment I've managed to set low 42's on server so I'm uploading my current (low fuel) setup and a replay file (going to ReplayData, not a Timetrial).

Thanks for the TT Busi - very useful. I had a quick go and got down to a 42.7 offline by tweaking a few things. Places I need to really improve are T1 (you get a great exit!), T4(R) where you seem to get back on the power earlier, and T14R. T6/7 and T11 could also be better. The rest I am within a 10th or better on a good lap.

Btw, I wondered if it was worth asking Mike Miller if he wants a drive? He is in different time zone anyway, so a later slot may suit him, and he's v fast too.

Talking of time slots, have we sorted any for the GT1 team yet? Im going to need a sensible time sesh like sat afternoon/early evening or sunday morning for domestic bliss to prevail...especially as the first F1 GP will be that weekend too and im not missing that !

Oh poo, is it?  ??? ???

Ade you need to go into your profile on the gt-web site and on the second page you need to put your user name/ plr name so that they reconize you on the server. You then need to get on their server and put at least 3 timed laps in. If there are any problems their website will list them.

Mike can you register on their site please.
Some help, hopeflly;
http://www.gtweb-live.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=4004

And then download the mod here and install to your specific GTR2 install

http://www.gtweb-live.com/site/index.php?file=Download&op=categorie&cat=15

Just to warn people, everyone needs to be able to connect to the GT-Web TS server for the race, this is how they issue race announcments during the race and to organise the race driver swaps.

OK. I registered on the server and downloaded something that looked like it was specific to Sakir (around 1.5mb), but still need the car mod and possibly a skin pack. I'll also need to figure out how to connect to the server and team speak. I'll start by reading this entire thread looking for the keys to get in.

1 last question until I get stuck, can someone please confirm my run time in the LMP1 class? I want to ensure I am available before I move any further.

Mike, it might be better for you to say when you are available. We might be able to swap around if necessary.

The mod is a single install - track and cars together. You should be able to select the 24H Sakhir Track as well as the GTWeb 24h Sakhir car class.

OK, the 17-20h slot is the obvious one, but I am wondering whether the first stint might be available too. To me it seems Legzy might be better in the GT1 team since a) they have less drivers and b) Chris is defintely more of a GT driver. Obviously if Chris prefers LMP1 that's fine, but the GT boys need an extra driver or 2 pretty quickly.

i'll give it a go. i need a lot of practice.
i got the cars installed. I'm trying to find the IP of the practice servers now.

Edit
i got into the practice server and ran a few exploritory laps. The LMP1 cars are a far stretch from the P&G lumbering beasts that I'm used to. Talk about culture shock. It will take me a bit of time to get up to speed. Early days put me high 45, low 46 on a full tank. That's a long way off of 41's after jettison of fuel. Like I said earlier, it's early days.

If we do a practice race, it makes sense to include the GT cars as well. Let's get comfortable passing and being passed.

As far as I know, the GT1's are full already, but I'm preferring the lmp1 over the gt1, so will stick with that thanks.  :)

ps don't worry, I'll get quicker ;) But we learnt last time, the most important thing you can do in this event, is to complete your 3 hour stint. If you finish 8 laps down, that is still better for your team then not finishing.

Welcome Mike and Ade, good to have you aboard :)

Would have loved to run the test race Paul but same deal as SBG here I'm afraid - will get a bit more serious about it next week once that's out of the way. Is there another before the main event?

If not it would be great to have a SROU test race with us all on track if possible - anyone else fancy that? Ade could we all hang off your broadband connection you think?

With Jonzo in, we have 7 drivers for GT1. admittedly not all are qualified yet, API and MJ, me and TT i think.

Mike, the small initial install from their website installs the syncronisation tool, this puts an icon on your desktop. run this and it should sync up your folders and install them one by one. As far as i know, there isnt a single install pack yet. Skins are yet to be approved yet anyway.

3. 20h to 23h - Purdie
4. 23h to 02h - Ginsters
5. 02h to 05h - Mr Oily
6. 05h to 08h - H@L
7. 08h to 11h - Busi
8. 11h to 14h - Paul

Is this our LMP1 team schedule then? Any changes to be made?

I can't make the test race, I'll be in Gamers Crib fighting the Porka BiTurbo around Monza :P

Thanks for the tip Spanner. I'm all set with the cars and track. I connected to the test server and ran some laps. It doesn't appear as if I'm scored yet. I'm guessing this is because my name isn't added to the team yet. Can you bung that for me?

Mike you need to add your in game player name to you profile, go to gtweb home page, below login bottom right click on Compte then profil and stick your player name your using in GTR2 in nom GTR2 you will have to confirm passwords then click on modifier at the bottom, then go and get at least 3 laps in and you should show up on the drivers timing page. At the moment your showing in the registration problems  page.

I did a session earlier on a full tank using Busi's setup but with a click more front springs. I managed 36 laps in total, averaging around 1.45.0, with a best of 1.44.5. Tyre wear was pretty even front to back, and the balance didn't change much at all. The backs were about 21-22 and the fronts around 20-21 (I think - I forget to check right at the end, but they were 18 and 17 respectively with 6 to go). I found that as the fuel came down the tyre wear tended to offset the weight advantage, so the times at the end were not much different to the start.

36 laps on a tank would mean that only 2 stops would be needed in a 3 hour stint, which is handy - the predicted consumption would have meant an extra stop.

Btw, watch out for a guy call Sidonio Moreira. He drives an LMP2 and every time I come across him he insists on racing rather than giving way, even on an out lap. Plonker  ::)

Maybe you would use less fuel on full tanks (more careful)? Maybe I am just dog slow  :D

I'll check the consumption again though to confirm.

Ok, time to sort us out now. The list, wayback in the thread for GT1 was:-

GT1
Lazlow
Truetom
Spanner
Mark Jonzo
API
Gazza49er
Plus:
Ade
JonM

Gives us a full team of 8 drivers.

Team Schedule?
1.  15h00 - 18h00 (14h00 17h00 UK)-
2.  18h00 - 21h00 (17h00 20h00 UK)-
3.  21h00 - 00h00 (20h00 23h00 UK)-
4.  00h00 - 03h00 (23h00 02h00 UK)-
5.  03h00 - 06h00 (02h00 05h00 UK)-
6.  06h00 - 09h00 (05h00 08h00 UK)-
7.  09h00 - 12h00 (08h00 11h00 UK)-
8.  12h00 - 15h00 (11h00 14h00 UK)-

My only stipulation, i can do either the last two or the first two stints. Roll up, roll up!

I shall now add us all to the teams on GTweb, both GT1 and LMP so can people please, if they have not done so, to put 3 or more laps on their server to qualify to be in the race. If you dont you cannot run.

If people are interested in doing the test race:

http://www.gtweb-live.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=4165

And put the team name in here

http://www.gtweb-live.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=4150

Its only 3 stints so only needs a 1-3 people. Sounds like you could run 1 & 3 then Paul if your that keen!

TBH i'm tempted to jump in a LMP1, though i've already got bored of the track.

I'm sure there will be another before the actual race.

Many pilots didn't made their prequalification laps !

Isn't the "deadline" to prequalify 17th March as the Practice 3 ends? I'll join the server and put some laps in today or tomorrow.

And time slot 5 would be nice. ;D

121    UKGTR    UKGTR Team LMP    Luke Hammond

That is me. I should get some times in on the server by Monday if the server is running.

I'd like to do the test race in the GT1 just to get a bit of a feel for the event. Being lapped by those LMP's etc. Plus it'd be a nice test of my race setup. Going out now, will post again later if anyboy's up for it  :)

I am very confused by the fuel thing. I will do another test, but if you set the units to imperial, you get 23.8 gals on a full tank, but  only 90 litres? There are 4.555 litres per gallon, so I don't know which is right? One of them is wrong though!

If only we could!  ;)

No, I think the end result is the same - enough fuel for about 30 laps. It is just a conversion error of some kind. I'm not sure how I got it wrong before, but I must have done. I guess it is because GTR shows laps in the export as 1,2,3, etc when they are not necessarily consecutive, unlike iRacing.

3 stops it is I'm afraid  :(

I reckon the drivers who don't wear tyres too much could more or less divide the race in 2 halves (changing tyres in 2nd stop), but only adding fuel in 1st and 3rd pitstop. But don't do this unless the wear will not go over 22-25, cause with long stints its generally not worth keeping the tyres (as opposed to the 60min X2 fuel races we had here last season).

I will change tyres all pitstops and add more or less the same fuel. Obviously starting on 100 lit (or the max fuel in the car anyway).

My PB is 1:50.7 but I've got no clue how to get another second off that, maybe I can get a few tenths but no more. Should be able to run in the 52's for race pace . Medium tyres will do but I struggle to get the fronts upto to temp. It will have to be 3 stops for me too. Anybody got any other setups to try for the Ford GT.

Here's mine so far
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5R1KLVD8

This setup is a hell of alot better with Brake Bias more toward the front. After running a few laps with 54/46 I got down to a 1.50:4 with a little bit left too. The car doesn't slide out so much now under braking.....OK I should've expected that ;D

How's the skins going chaps?

Just a few questions about the race.

From the rules
Quote
- WARNING: YOU SHOULD NOT MOVE FROM YOUR POSITION BEFORE THE GREEN
LIGH, OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED (DQ)!
- You should not put you on the cob even after the green light.
- You do not move no matter what.
- There is no warm-up lap.
I take it this means that you do not move at all until your team mate give the order "GO!" to start your 3 hour stint.

Quote
Blue flag
You may immediately open the track for faster pilots that overtake you 1 lap or more. This
will avoid to loose time for both.

Does this mean we have to move off line at any time a fast car approaches? I prefer to slow on the straights tbh. Is one corner too much of a hold up?

Will the weather file be taken from the air temperature at Sakhir from a site like this (http://www.myweather2.com/Motor-Racing/Bahrain/Sakhir-Circuit.aspx?sday=7)?

Will the race time(in game) start be 15H or bahrain time(GMT +3 hours)?

Can anyone remember if we used to use a program by this fella to create/install the skins?
Quote
Mod Manager
- Arnaud Dumas (Archeo)

The name seems familiar...

And my question is, when we race do we have to be in a specific TS channel with all drivers, or is it enough to be in our team channel? How will we hear any possible announces then?

Title: Re: [GTR2] 24H GTWeb Spring 2011
Post by: Truetom on March 08, 2011, 08:58:26 AM +0000
Some answers:

about TS: we have our own channel, we freely speak there. Moderator's announcements are heard on all channels at once.

about takeover: at Road America we were parked beside the pit-wall on the ride side of the track. When the driver finishing his stint went over the s/f line he said gogogo and you started your car and drove for the next 3 hours. I expect the same will be done here.

about the blue flags: I had no problem at Road America. GT1s being the slowest class you had a clear view of which class is faster and TAB helps if lapped by the same class car - hope not. ;) Common sense is the way to I think. Jon might have a small problem as he's not used to being overtaken. :D

about weather: it was quite various at Road America, temps and humidity / rain wise. I think 3 stints had some showers or more, others were dry. I think it'll be similar @Sakhir - desert or not. Would be dull to have an all out dry and hot weather, even at night.

Qualifications will take place on the Thursday 17 March 2011 on 2 servers during 2 sessions of 2 hours: 21-23h and 00-02h.

What are we gonna do, as I think only 1 driver per team can be on track at any time. Is it a little time (30min average) for all of us within those 4 hours?

During the whole endurance race, you must be permanently be connected to the Team
Speak Channel of your Team.
This connexion on your TS channel is mandatory.

Whats that all about? I guess they mean that at least one driver (i.e. the one on track) must be connected?

Make sure you are on the GTWeb TS and in the UKGTR channel before you join the GTR2 server and make sure you leave the GTR2 server before disconnecting from TS.

It is just so that you are ready for when the car is handed over to you and you can hand the car over to the next driver at the end of your stint. Also, GTWeb want to make sure that you will be able to here all official announcements when in their GTR2 server.

Regarding qualy, fastest drivers should have priority IMO which would be Busy and Paul I think. The rest of us can have a go when they are done. ;D

I assume you didn't list me as me being fast is a given! ;D

I do have a question though about the race & qually.

Over a lap, Busi is probably going to put us pretty near to the front row.
Over a lap, I'm probably going to be the slowest in our LMP1 team.
I'm currently scheduled to be starting us off. I don't have a problem with that, but I anticipate there being quite a few very strong drivers at the sharp end, in a hurry to get past me & it'll likely be hectic. Like I said, I have no problem with that, but as an idea, would we maybe be better off 'tactically/safely' with one of our fastest drivers leading us out?
Just a thought that occurred, so sharing. :)

One option is that we set a midpack quali laptime instead of a fast one so you don't have very fast drivers behind at the start :P

The other option, if you like the idea Legzy: I think that first stint (14h-17h) would suit me even better than my current one (7th, 8h-11h) and I would actually enjoy doing the opening stint, so would you be ok with swapping or is it a bad hour for you? Also if you wanted to consider being separated to H@L for a possible replacement then more changes would be needed. Just a suggestion :)

Sorry if I've missed some discussion about this already but it would be a big help to me if we could even do one practice race, is that possible next week some time do you think? We still need to sort our selves out and havent seen any responses from some of you. Here are the current spaces available:-

GT1 Team Schedule

1.  15h00 - 18h00 (14h00 17h00 UK)- MJ (1, 2 or 7)
2.  18h00 - 21h00 (17h00 20h00 UK)- JonM
3.  21h00 - 00h00 (20h00 23h00 UK)- Lazlow
4.  00h00 - 03h00 (23h00 02h00 UK)- ?
5.  03h00 - 06h00 (02h00 05h00 UK)- ?
6.  06h00 - 09h00 (05h00 08h00 UK)-  ?
7.  09h00 - 12h00 (08h00 11h00 UK)- (MJ)
8.  12h00 - 15h00 (11h00 14h00 UK)- Spanner

Ade, TT, Gazza?????

Sadly with the loss of API someone will need to at least try and attempt two stints. It might be a bit more easier to do if MJ did the 7th stint so we can space them out a bit more. I'll tentatively volounteer to do the first and last stints assuming no one else can.

3. 20h to 23h - Purdie
4. 23h to 02h - Ginsters

6. 05h to 08h - H@L

I posted on the GTWeb forum about running the 1st session. The skins look great.

Had a decent run in the 1st session. I was 25s up in class then I pitted...And hit the pit wall after skidding :-[ My engine took a bit of a beating in the heat tho. Was down to about 80% after an hour which was a concern. Everything was fully open, the only thing left to do is reduce revs :-\ Will be tricky running in day because of this. Everything else was fine. Tyres, tyre pressures, brakes and the way the car handled, so it was a good work out :)

Nice Jon.

I remember round Road America last time you had to short shift all the time! the engines are a bit fragile. Should be ok in the GT tho as its pretty torquey.

I think we were 6th overall 3 laps down. I had to wait for the 'Top deco' signal to start the 3rd session. TBH I wasn't really sure if I was meant to go then as not everyone floored it at first. A bloke spun next to me so I let him go and started dead last a long way off the front. I battled up the field to finish 3rd in Class for that session. There was quite a bit of fighting to get through and some of the racers didn't want to let go of postions, some of that made it fun but some not so. No problems with the car in the cooler air though. I added the extra bright headlights mod so driving in the dark was easy ;D Finished up with the fastest lap in Class but I don't think any of the real fast guys turned up. Their Teamspeak system worked well so I've no real worries about the race other than staying on the track, it will be an interesting race for sure :)

i think its reading my plr as Mark Jonzo instead of my real name. I have done laps in p3 session. Will jump in tomorrow eve with my other plr file so it registers.

I am still unsure which time slot i am in, 1st or 7th? I wont be too popular getting up at 7.30 on a sunday morning (didnt allow for euro -1hr) so may have to stay at T1.

We still short 2 drivers? Gazza and Laz?

took out 20L (50L - 30L) & instantly found .8 of a sec. :o
So now at 45.2

Shocked at how big a difference that made ???
I now wonder if an extra pit-stop, so carrying less fuel in each stint would be better :-\. Any thoughts?
I'm thinking it'll be about 74-75laps in an lmp1? (so about 225L for me)

I'd put that down to either a good lap or practice making you quicker. The difference for me between a full tank and vapour is less than 2 seconds.

lol that was a little bit short Legzy, I reckon it's gonna be 101 or 102 laps for 3 hours.

About fuel: according to my test, from 16L to 90L on tank the laptime increases around 1.8 seconds. 20 lit should make a 0.5 sec difference, you are just getting faster Legzy :)

Doing some quick calculations, I found that its better to start the race with the fuel you need instead of the full tank, as you lose half the time adding fuel in pits than lapping slower with more fuel. I will be splitting my race in 26-lap stints (last one shorter according to the remaining time) and starting with 81L I think. BUT surely doing an extra stop won't be a benefit.

Still not getting this car, and worryingly i am not enjoying driving it despite liking the track.  :(
Anyone found a way of getting heat into those front tyres in the GT1 yet? I can only get mid 70's on softs, yet alone meds for the race.  :-\ Also, anyone know what the rev/torque chart is for this car? it doesnt show up the tech specs under showroom. Still the same problem Mark  :-\

You're registered on the website with the PLR Name "Mark Jonzo". Driving with a "Mark Johnson" won't work.

You need to drive with "Mark Jonzo" and make at least 3 full laps in a row. Then, check HERE (http://www.gtweb-live.com/site/index.php?file=GTWeb_Classement&page=classement&manche=304&game=1) that your laps had been validated. Sometimes, GTR2  log files doesn't work fine and the average laptime is not taken so you need to make some other laps.

i just did another 20 laps on there using 'Mark Jonzo' and it still hasnt registered my laps at all. It shows me on the drivers list without a number next to it but says i only did 11 laps back on 9th march.  ???  JonM and Busi were both in same online session as me for last 40mins.  Getting a tad fed up with all these problems, i didnt have any at the road america event. Its a clean GTR2 install, all my GTW files are up to date using the GTW batch file jobby and i practised using our skin, so not sure whats going wrong.

edit: looking here, http://www.gtweb-live.com/site/index.php?file=GTWeb_Endurance&page=EndurancesErreursPLR
it seemed to record me being on there late this eve as 'Mark Johnson' again, but pretty sure i reverted back to the 'Mark Jonzo' profile.  :-\

MJ while I was on server I saw you doing stints of only 2 flying laps, never saw you completing 3 consecutive laps, only once but one of the three laps was well over the 2 mintues and the average wasn't enough. Try to set 3 consecutive laps on 1:55-1:56 :)

Just to make sure: when we are finishing our stint, do we have to give the 'GO' signal to our teammate at the moment we are crossing the line to finish the race right? Sounds obvious but just making sure, as there is no instructions for the driver who gives the signal.

And out of interest, how does the Live video work, as drivers will be in 2 servers, are there 2 TV channels or can they switch view between the 2 servers? Don't know how this works at all.

Title: Re: [GTR2] 24H GTWeb Spring 2011
Post by: GTWeb24H on March 16, 2011, 05:38:41 AM +0000
The TOP must be given when the driver get the message by the spotter that the race is over, and not when you've got the checkered flag which just mean the leader ended his race.

For the video, there will be a "pilot" named GTWeb TV on each server and there will be 2 live TV so you will se your LMP1 team on the first TV and the GT1 team on the second  :)

Just execute the sync tool which you used to install the mod. There are some updates (skinpack, pit limit speed change I think, etc) so by running the sync thing you'll have it all ready ;)

Mark, make sure you got "Mark Jonzo" in this space:

I don't think you can have a problem if this is correctly filled and you race ingame as Mark Jonzo like yesterday... just make sure this is correct and that you do 3 consecutive laps... we need this sorted today I think.

Basically, when you cross the line to finish your race, shout "go go go" & at that point (not before), your team mate can start.
Your team mate must not go till you have crossed the finish line!

Last time, we were obviously letting our next team mate know we were approaching the final corner etc, to help them be ready to go when we do cross the line & it's not a bit of a shock/mess

I'm a bit concerned with the lack of any mention of weather yet. Last time we had quite detailed plans for each stint and i know its bahrain where the wether isnt quite going to vary that much but still.. I'd imagine that it might help to ad a bit more unpredictablility to it wit the lack of time to prepare and no real detail either.

I wouldnt be surprised then that there will some wet weather at some stage.

We could see temperatures as high as 32C in sessions 1 and 8 and as low as 13C in session 4 and 5.

I could make 3 static weather files, one with 30C, one with 20ishC and one with 15C. Or I could do one or two changing weather files, one that starts at 30 and goes down to 20 and one that starts at 15 and goes up to 25 maybe.

What would people prefer?

The humidity goes very high in the last session. Rain maybe?

Here are three static weather files:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/20137387/Static_rar

Choose the file that you want to use and place it in C:\GTR2\UserData\Log

You may not have a weather file there at all yet but, if you do then overwrite it.

Right click on the weather file and click on properties, then tick the box for 'Read Only' and apply. You will need to untick 'read only' to alter or overwrite the file in the future. The file needs to be read only so that GTR2 does not overwrite it which it will do every time otherwise.

Load GTR2 and put the weather slider on 'changeable' when choosing session details.

Here are 2 changeable files, one that starts on 30 and goes down to about 22 and one that starts on 15 and goes up to 26:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/20137466/changeable_rar

I have not checked the files on the track yet so there is the possibility that the cloud cover could turn into rain (the conditions values mean different thing on different tracks ::)) so if this happens then let me know but, I 'think' that will not happen.

any of you strategy officianados worked out exactly how much fuel we need for a 3hr session? I made it 395L in the ford GT and was going to stick an extra 10L in for good measure, so think it was 4 full fuel stops and a top of whats needed. Get such massively different fuel readings depending on whether online or offline for this track so i used the online fuel useage.

Excited  :) Love the aura of these big international events, its like Le Mans  8)  just hope i dont give flying Jon too much ground to make up as i still dont feel confidently quick in this car :-\

Lets hope we all have a great race, its a good line up  :)

oh and great work on qualifying 2nd Jon, top driving  8)

edit: just checked server assigments over at GTW and they are not listed yet. Is session 1 going to be on the same IP as the sessions so far have been?

Yeah the tension's been building since qually started hasn't it MJ - great motivation, just wish I was a wee bit quicker! You guys were right, I underestimated what full fuel would do to my times but hopefully there's still a fraction to come now I know to switch the front tyres to softs.

Thanks for the light mod Andy, 100% better for me - really was a nightmare without! My only worry at the moment is my FPS is really poor with anything more than a few cars on screen at one time so I'm just hoping given I'm on 2am duty that there'll be decent field spread or it's going to be very interesting indeed. I've turned all the detail down but I think it's the headlights that are doing it. Any other FPS saving tips welcome!

Bit nervous about these driver changeovers but other than that feeling good. Going to be out for the day and evening unfortunately but I hope those early stints go well guys, will catch you a bit later!

I thought it was gonna be 3 stops TBH. I guess it will be a bit different for all as we run different wing and will race in different temps. Will double check in a 25*C session when I get back from dropping our eldest at Grandma's place.

Don't worry about pace MJ. I think if we all just finish our stints it will be a nice achievement :)
How's that engine running in the heat?

I recommend to anybody that hasn't got that bright headlight mod to stick it on. It makes night driving easy tbh.
I've got a 'no rain drops on the windscreen' mod here too if anybody wants it.

My initial calculations a few weeks back said i was doing 50 min on a tank so was 3 stops.
However being that my stint will again be likely wet i'm not playing it too precisely and will try and play it by ear! A few extra seconds on stop i'm not too worried about, its more the time lost after going off and picking up damage. Playing it safe is the order here.

Server assignments and schedules on the GT-WEB site now. Remember they will start your server 1.5h before you officially start so you have time to practise in the conditions.

Dont know of everyone knows but i think the plan for TS is to log in on both their team specific rooms and our own simulaneosly so we can listen to both and talk together.

Hoping to get on to see the start but if i dont catchup with any of you, good luck. :angel-wings:

We don't have to talk on 24h Web TS, do we? Can't Alt-Tab out and change, not in GTR2.
I'm having some issues with my sound card (losing power, sound goes lower and lower) but I hope it will hold on 'till the end of the race. :(

Best of luck all! 8)

Not that I'm going to need it any point of course but there isn't a patch that helps you get out of the sand more easily is there? A crane or something perhaps  ;D

Slowly getting more comfortable - the biggest mistake I was making was braking too much, I don't think I was locking the wheels a huge amount but winding off the sensitivity a bit and braking more gently is stopping most of the tiny wheel snatches and getting the thing slowed is definitely easier now.

Yup, getting to the end of your stint regardless of position will keep us at the business end of things. It's a difficult task to complete a three hour stint without at least on big issue & many drivers from all 3 series will struggle to reach their finish. Never forget you can repair your car here iRacers ;)

good lord, that was painful  :(  love the big event but my car was just an ill handling lump of pig-iron  >:( and sadly it turned into 3 hours of not-so-hot lapping on my own being lapped by all and sundry.  :-[ i just couldnt 'race' anyone.

I dont understand because last night for the first time in the build up to this race i felt reasonably confident of being able to have a good race as the car felt stable and was able to do 1:54's with low tyre wear and good balance and i did long runs to test. But within a couple of laps of race start here i knew i was in trouble as the car suddenly felt un-balanced and awful under braking and low speed turn in, with tons of oversteer.  ??? The 41 degree heat no doubt was causing trouble as the rears overheated and induced more oversteer. But even when i got new tyres on later it didnt really help and i felt nervous at every hard braking turn with no confidence that the car wouldnt spin me etc.
As it turned out i didnt have a spin until 1hr 10mins into the race but had about 3 by race end and many oversteer slides down that tough double apex into a hairpin complex which cost me seconds every lap.

It wasnt until the temps dropped to 39 that i was able to start doing 1:55 laptimes and i clawed back a lot of lost time on a couple of cars ahead,  only to get nerfed off twice by lapping LMP cars late in the race. A late splash for more fuel with 15mins remaining put paid to any late charge and tiredness also set in.
Embarassed to say i finshed 2nd or 3rd from bottom and was lapped by many cars throughout.  :'( Jon has his work cut out...sorry mate.
Next time no way im signing up to this unless its a car i actually like driving.

Sorry guys feel a let down for that lame performance but nothing i could do. :(  Good luck to the rest of you.

Busi has been featured a lot. ;D He seems to have had some action and is doing an excellent job. :thumbup1:

Really? haha nice, yeah I had lots of action for such a long race. I thought drivers were supposed not to defend/battle any position, but I had a couple of defenders in front of me :o

So, I started in 9th and taking it easy on the opening laps. Gained 2 positions with mistakes and I overtook another car, was up to 6th. Then I started to get more excited and spun it in the last corner lol down to 9th again.

From then on I only did a few small mistakes, but I think me pace was reasonably consistant in the 44's (I could only hit a 43 in the final stint! :o I think the higher temperatures were the reason). In the pits though I generally gained time on the others. After watching the leader (Legoff I think, very fast that guy, he had lapped me) retire, I was in 5th and chasing Pedro, who I had a great battle with throughout the whole race. In the last pitstop I jumped him and another driver, from 5th to 3rd. BUT Pedro ended up passing me again so I finished in 4th just behind 3rd.

A shame that Mike isn't there for the 2nd stint :(

Hope you had a good run in the GT1 MJ :) good luck to all of you in your stint, lets go for it 8)

Well done for sticking it out MJ.

That because i am a stubborn bugger  ;D any lesser event and i would have been reaching for the escape button as it was truly frustrating at certain points. One of those races where even when you try the gentlest braking and downshifts the blinking back end was still trying to come round on me. Jons now going great guns 3 secs quicker than i managed all race so just proves my setup combined with lack of talent in a Ford GT was my undoing.  :-[

I saw a very nice move of yours Busi, about 40 mins in I think. You passed a guy on T1 while holding off another at the same time. The commentators were impressed I think. ;D That guy that was in 1st was well fast, I missed him dropping out. My stint wasn't exactly quick, but it was steady. I started 22nd in my heat and finished 14th. My 1st stop was a bit slow as I stalled the car twice. I slipped the clutch a ton on the subsequent stops. I dropped a couple wheels in the dirt a number of times, losing some time, but nothing major over a 24 hour period. I got 4 wheels off twice, but didn't loop it or hit anything. I was also hit twice from behind, but again, I was able to save it and keep the car heading in the right direction.

Shame I missed my earlier stint. Oily couldn't connect either so that is 2 stints missed. This is a greuling event. I think I'll drive GT next time. I never really felt comfortable in the LMP1 car.

Enjoyed that, no dramas to speak of, no spins just played it safe ;D got two wheels over the the curb twice one of my own doing trying to look at fuel use and when to pit and one trying to avoid  a car in front getting a bit wayward under braking.
Bad luck with the connection problems Oily :( shame H@ll didn't make it in time to take your seat. I'm sure our 3hr Christmas fun runs don't leave me that drained  :wheelchair: off to watch Gazza and have a beer.

:o :o  wow that was brilliant!!

Think i did a really good stint no off's or spins, and really consistant times. First hour was intence actually racing 5 cars all in a row and i was quicker than them but not on the straights so took me a while to get past but once i got in clean air it all came together nicely, car felt good. The last 15 mins were a bit tricky when the sun came up and made a few corners blind.

Over to TT now good luck mate  8)

My stint was ok-ish. Had a contact in 2nd lap, two guys in front spinned 'cause of the sun but the damage was small. Lost 8 seconds when I got thrown to desktop with no apparent reason. Didn't hit anything just lost some time and had to claw back past the two guys I overtook just a few seconds earlier. Good going in GT1s. 8)

A bit jinxed in LMPs, as I hear. :-\

Jim did fantastically well in his 2nd stint.

Well done Paul on finally taking what's 9th place for us. Good experience with this enduro :)

Wow what a fantastic result  :o :o

All the GT1 chaps did amazing!!! I guess finishing every session with no incidents really paid off. Hats off to Lazlow for the 2 stints and Spanner for what looked like a tense last session. Thanks to Ade for sticking around with me for my session, really helped having someone there.

Was hoping to see the finish but got called away with some bad news ( my mothers dog had to be put down  :'( ) but seeing this result has made up for it a bit.

Bad luck for the LMP1 guys but some great driving by all aswell.

Hope everything goes smoothly Legsy.

wow, did we really clinch 2nd place in GT1?!  Fantastic result  :thumbup1: Thats amazing after only our second attempt at a 24hr race  :notworthy:

I had to go out with only 15mins remaining to attend a family birthday meal out so guttingly had to leave when it was finitely poised with pressure mounting on Spanner. Seems like you brushed it off and mastered the weather change, well done mate, great driving.
It was great being able to monitor and follow most of the race via the live feed and video, i think i enjoyed that far more than my driving spell, and it was a pleasure to sit in and keep some drivers company and report positions and targets for them.

Unlucky to the LMP boys, they were always on the back foot when two sessions were missed but a valiant first attempt and there are some seriously fast guys in that group. 8)

Great great stuff, love these huge endurance events and hats off to GTW once again for organising and running such a fantastic event.  :thumbup1: When are we going to do Le Mans?  ;)
Brilliant  :)

Well that was pretty hard work, but very satisfying to get to the end too  :sweatdrop: My session was fairly easy to be honest, with much of it lapping on my own. Most of the LMP2s were well behaved, partly because they were a lap down by the time I caught them, although one or 2 made it tricky. I had a half spin and stall trying to pass one while fending off a lapper (I wanted to let him past but not to comproise me too badly), but other than that things were fine. I had a bit of contact with Sidonio Moreira in an audi, but that was no surprise - he was a rolling roadblock on the practice servers and hit me several times. I was hoping near the end for the rain to come and give me a chance to catch the next LMP1, whic was only 40 secs up the road and might have needed another pitstop, but it was never enough - beacuse of the heat the track stayed dry despite the rain  ::) I had a nightmare with the pitstops. The car would not restart without using the ignition, even though in practice it didn't need it. I also had a major problem pulling away as Busi's gearing was so high in 1st that with the limiter on you couldn't get enough revs on to slip the clutch easily. I probably lost at least as much in the pits as I did from driving mistakes, which is annoying.

We were always up against it after the 2 dropped sessions, but I think we can be proud that the only problems we had were not driving ones. I feel for both Mike and Oily, Don't beat yourseflf up over it Mike - I can see mysefl doing the same thing! And you must be so frustrated James to put in all the effort only to miss the boat  :( I do feel that we could learn a lesson or 2 from this though - something like having a 30 minute check-in, where if a driver is not on the server then a reserve gets ready to step in if necessary.

Hats off to the GT1 boys - fantastic job   Just goes to show that keeping it on the track and completing all the sessions goes a long way to a good result, although there were also some great drives in there, especially Jon's - 'man of the match' for me  :thumbup1: Well done also to Legzy, who managed to race to the end while his wife was reporting the rate at which her contractions were arriving! - I don't think I could have got away with that, so well done m8 (or rather, well done missus Legzy!). Hope it all went well today  :)

Looking forward to the next one now. LMP2 perhaps?

Great work everyone. 8)

Incredible job GT1 drivers. :punk:

I had quite a time trying to unlap myself from LMP2s but, it was great fun and I loved the car. I am sure that I was witnessing brake life levels on XD but, I am pretty sure that GTR2 does not have that. I had a moment early in my session but, I chilled out a lot after that and only really pushed for positions when I felt it was really necessary. I am looking forward to the next one. Lets claim a LMP2 early in registration this time. ;D

And yes Paul, that is what I was thinking. With 8 drivers we could have easily arranged a backup driver for each session. I only just missed out on taking Oilys session. If I was a bit more prepared to get straight on the server I may have done it in time.

Well done all and a very big thank you to GTWeb staff. A truly epic event it was :thumbup1:

Was also thinking in the way of a backup driver. Sorry to make you worried, Ade. I was joining on my own pre-planned schedule. If I was gonna sit for 3 hours on that chair I didn't want to be there another hour too soon. Even so, a backup driver would a be useful contribution to the solidity of a team. :)

I am sure that I was witnessing brake life levels on XD but, I am pretty sure that GTR2 does not have that.

At the end of my 3hour stint my front brake life was at its half. I had never noticed that either, but apparently brakes wear out in GTR2? Gotta treat them really badly to damage them though, if 3 hours in a LMP1 car is not enough :P

LOL. Yep, I have never noticed it before and I was on about half way as well by the end. I would have needed a 6 hour stint before it came into play. ;D

Thanks Manteos, how well did your boys do? When i saw the names on the GT1 class i expected them to be a bit further up.

I guess we've never seen brake life before in the slow GT's but the LMP do push the envelope a bit more!

I do enjoy these races, i prefer the longer races where i can relax and just concentrate on the driving and watch the sector times. However i was clearly one of the slow guys out in my stint at times. I ended up leaving quite early on at the start so had a few guys come past including our foes behind us in the standings. I was running more wing clearly than them as they would gain down the straights but i was expecting the conditions to get progresssivly worse and probably the last 30 mins to be pretty wet.

Thanks to the guys on TS they were telling who i needed to look out for though i knew their pace meant they were going to lap me towards the end so there wasnt much i could do. After my last stop i tried to keep my head down and concentrate and luckily they tripped up backmarkers a few seconds behind with about 10 mins to go and never quite managed to gain on me after that. I do wonder if they realised just how close it was!

Its a shame about hte issues we had with the LMP, looking at the typical laps people were doing in their stints we might have been right up there. Lol, LMP2 then next time!

Thanks to everyone who took part and those who tried! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as me, even if it drained me! Thanks to the GT-Web guys for organising this, which must be a huge task. I shall be using their donation buttons on there site for sure.

 8) 8) That was amazing  8) 8)

I never got to grips with this car and my slow stint reflected that  :-\ but at least it was consistent and I generally kept out of trouble.... got rear-ended by LMP2's twice under-braking and that was it (no damage)  :)

Great speaking to everyone on TS and I tried returning the favour of spotting when Paul was driving the last stint but not sure if I was any help! Good atmosphere and sense of comaraderie all the way through. A few lessons to learn for next time, I will definitely be there!! Want to do Le Mans!!  ;D

Hope all went well Legzy !!! Now if I can just find the race that got you excited 9 months ago  ::).... appears to be Le Mans... not a great name for a kid  :P  ;)

Grats to GT1 guys, impressive result! ;D

The GT Website was fantastic with the Live Timing and Video...  :P Really impressed with the whole setup and a massive thank you to GT Web.....  :thumbup2:

Thanks for doing that Andy  :) To be honest, I had major difficulty hearing what was being said while I was driving as the engine noise was too much. I could hear people talking and I caught odd bits and pieces, but it was hard to hear a full sentence. Before the race I was toying with running TS on my other PC so that I could take a headphone off to hear the chat when needed, but in the end I didn't - next time perhaps. I suppose I didn't want to complicate things and make a disco more likely. I'm just really pleased my connection stayed up for the full session  :)

Same happened to me Paul (especially with you as you seem to have the mic volume very low) and I just lowered the ingame sounds as much as I increased the overal windows volume, so engine volume stays and TS volume increases ;)

This is cause I didn't find any way to just up the output volume on TS? There is no way of controlling that I think?

It seems that you enjoy your week-end  :)

I'm really happy that your GT1 team got a nice result, just behind us  :P (i'm Arnaud Dumas - archeo, from BBR Blue team).

For next event, don't expect Le Mans  :(  Before Sakhir, we talk with the ACO, which rules the 24H of Le Mans, but they didn't allow us to organize such virtual event. That's why we used Sakhir and that's also why we'll try to find another interesting track for next race.

Btw, to keep contact until next event, should it be possible that one of you, an admin or a team captain, add me to his MSN contacts ? My MSN is adumas78 AT hotmail.com

wow really? They can veto an online virtual race using Le Mans? Even if they didnt produce the sim or the Virtua LM circuit etc? Thats harsh and un-sporting of them too. What a shame as this kind of event organised 'the' worlds foremost endurance circuit would be simply breathtaking.  :'(

All the thanks for the great weekend go to your GTW organisation, brilliant job and must involve a lot of hard work on your front.  :notworthy:  At least we came 2nd to a top team  ;D

At least these guys are doing it properly, not your usual permissions? what permissions? lol

I'd imagine the "Le mans 24hr" or 24hr of LE mans" is probably a copyright or trade mark by the ACO so might get a bit touchy if you start using their logos. You guys do know there is 24hr race around bahrain :P

I would never have picked Sakir but it actually worked well for multi-class racing.

How about Sebring or maybe Petit Le Mans? Not in the same league as Le Mans, but proper endurance circuits used in the real world for 12 hour races.  I still think a GTW 24hr event at Le Mans would be the absolute pinnacle of sim racing.  8)

Track for next event will remain secret for everybody until the announcement  :P

For Le Mans, the copyright is not only on the name. The layout of the circuit belongs to the ACO (I suppose only recent leyout, that's why VLM made the old layout). ACO sell the rights to company like Codemasters or Microsoft so they don't want to let someone to play with their track without payment. Another league few years ago tried to organize such event and the lawyers had come => 800 € of legal costs  :o :-[

And for MSN contact, nobody ?

There are a few versions of Le mans available for GTR2 however there is yet to be a difinitive version of it, i guess because no one wants to take the ACO on.

Nice to meet you Arnaud  :) I did ask who you were earlier but I think it was missed.

Not surprised about the ACO, I hear (from people who have dealt with them) that they are an awkward bunch. I am more surprised at the way the stewards treat you over the 24hrs weekend, even as a driver!

I think Busi's suggestion of Spa is my favourite so far! I would say Silverstone but may get bored over 3 hrs!!

Another league few years ago tried to organize such event and the lawyers had come => 800 € of legal costs  :o :-[

Unbelievable! >:( I thought that if you ask for donations and not actually charge people then they cant touch you? It is such a  shame that money = justice and justice does not = justice.

LeMans people should be paying GTWeb to hold an event on the LeMans track. It would be like promotion for the real life event. All the drivers are obviously fans of LeMans racing and some drivers are even marshals and drivers in real life motor sport including the LeMans event it self.

Has anyone ever tried a petition or anything similar?

I suppose we cant really expect LeMans legal team to understand why it has to be done on GTR2 and not GT5 and they would never understand or believe about the amount of unpaid work put in by the GTWeb team.

The events have been incredible anyway and Road America and Bahrain have been excellent choices. :)

I don't use MSN, sorry.

Looking at the results now, 7th was probably about as high as we could have achieved in what was a very strong LMP1 field :sweatdrop: :-\.

Did my best in my stint, but lost my way for a bit somewhere in the middle. Started my shift at 8am UK time but by 8:10 my wife told me her waters just broke  /  / :boat: /

Left the grid in 22nd & after about 1hr 10mins was really pleased with how things were going. I'd knocked out a couple of 45's & was up to 14th & gaining on cars ahead nicely (& the Mrs was still at 10 minute intervals ). Unfortunately I caught a back marker in 21st spot who was being a bit of an ass & it made it very difficult to get past ::) & when I eventually did, he flashed both me and my nearest rival past together who was now on my bumper having been some 6+ secs behind  >:(, but not a problem, I'd pulled away from him twice already in the race when we were close early on. But then on that same lap he took my back end out going into the 2nd last corner & I was off backwards into the sand. When I got back on the track I was about 23 secs down on my new "mate" & about 4 positions :(. I knew I was quicker & figured I'd be able to make it back, but looking back I just started over-driving & it took ages to let myself get back into the grove.

Anyway, with suggestions from my Mrs that during my next pitstop I should get dressed ready to go to hospital fairly soon, as she was now 5 mins apart….  I pushed on to the end & had a good final stint.

Think I was a bit outclassed by the majority of LMP1 drivers, I guess it’s the top one so attracts the big boys. But did really enjoy that & wish these events were more often, even if it was just every 4 months instead of 6.

p.s. Sorry my race reports is a bit late, I’ve been kept a bit busy on the home front
