Having just checked there isn't actually a Watkins Glen (Long).  It's actually the Boot layout to match the main series.

Managed to get into the 33's on a lucky lap tweaking the Road Am setup. then looked at our last races here and was surprised.

Shame we are doing it with the bus-stop chicane ruins the flow and i can never get it right! Seem to be seeing a bit of tyre wear after only a few laps though i think that might be more too much understeer or over driving.

Only a few laps so far but I'm only in the 34s.  On fuel admittedly.  More work needed I feel.

Low 32's in my case, in race trim. Been dialing out some nasty oversteer, especially on bumps, so the setup isnt as quick as it could be, but is pretty safe - If I can maintan some disciplin :).

Ok I'm begging here. At the risk of sounding worse than the ex F1 driver Nissany (anyone remember him?), I'm suffering with this car.  Has anybody got a setup or tips for the only part of the car that seems to be failing? (me)

The Dallara does not like trail-braking, so get the hard stopping done before you turn in.  Keep it smooth.  Hit the brakes hard when you're at speed, come off them gently when you turn in.  Keep it smooth.  Unless the wheels are straight, feed the power on gently.  Keep it smooth.

The esses are flat all the way, at the chicane, you can go right over the first kerb on the right, don't hit the one on the left, then you can get on the power over the last two kerbs as soon as the car is settled.  That's the hardest bit of the track.  Don't touch any of the big kerbs

I'll share my setup during practice tommorrow, but a decent Road Atlanta setup with a bit more rear wing gave good results for me with a 1:31.4 on a 10 lap run.

27 laps guys.  Sorry, I forgot to update the first post.

I like the Glen but I'm struggling to avoid mistakes at the moment.  I'm nearly quick enough in qually trim but as soon as I put fuel in I'm down into the high 33s.

I'm using the baseline low downforce setup.

It's alright but a twitchy. I guess I could do with about another year of driving this car. If i'm unsafe or dreadfully slow in practice then i'll let you guys get on with it.

I can recommend the setup Rob shared last night as nice and stable.  I struggled to go quickly with it but it stuck nicely and didn't throw me at the wall.  Andy's was easier than the alien one I've been using as well.

I am so sorry Ken. I just wanted to get of the line. Saw you coming on the relative, and just paniced. Gearpaddles 'mirrored' because it was turned 180 degress, so engaged reverse, then 1st right when you tried to avoid me. God that sting so bad. Im terribly sorry  :'(

Stupid mistake led to my retirement. Car was feeling great and I was in a super good rythm. Very consitent in 4th place. I then wanted to close a little on Steven (was 2 sec behind), cause he was soon gonna be in stricking distance of Gary, and I wanted to join that party. So exiting turn 8 I gave it a little bit too much throttle, and woopsie. Damn, I was in pretty good shape. Fffff***!

If you guys will excuse me, Im going out to kick some innocent animals or something..

From the off I knew that the car could easily outperform my talent!

I messed around with the default setups and was really suffering. Borrowed a couple and tried extensively. Felt really comfy with one and was pretty pleased with my 1.33.3 until I saw it put me 12th!  ::)

On to the race well I got caught up in the Melee at T1. Faultless again, I guess I should ditch the magnet now! So I was sat on the outside of T1 and wondered why I couldn't select gear. Engaged my brain and realised that I'd swapped to paddles. D'oh!

I soldiered on as all wheels were pointing straight and carried on. The car felt very sluggish on turn in from then on and was slowed by about 2 seconds a lap. It also gave me a very severe front lock up which I couldn't dial out.

Had a couple of battles but the speed differential ended all of them on the straight.

Eventually finished 8th and it left me feeling like i'd just completed the hardest of weight sessions.

Well done though gents :)

No problem Karsten, I've done similar things myself in the past, that's racing.

I was enjoying the lonely run in 5th and would have been happy to finish there. When I saw the yellows and the tyre smoke I had a moment of glee and thought I'd been gifted 4th!! To be honest I thought I'd just misjudged my avoiding swerve and forgotten that an Indy car is wider at the back than the front. But the replay and Karsten's honorable apology showed that I was not at fault, for once!!

After that I used my reset and just thought I'd do some hotlapping. Surprisingly as the race panned out I actually ended up fighting for position with Robin, albeit he had a bent car I think. Anyway 7th from 7th on the grid isn't too bad.

Took me a while to get a decent lap in qually, but only good enough for 3rd on the grid.

Jumped Gary at the green and was challenging Dan into the chicane.  I feared that I had squeezed him off the track, but thankfully I didn't :)  After that it was pedal-to-the-metal to get any advantage I could and it worked so well I was 10 seconds up when I took my stop.  After that I could take it a little easier to bring it home.

Two wins on the trot!  :o  doesn't happen often, but I have a very good feeling with this car now ;D

Another great race, another 1-2 for Team Shark. Perhaps I need to threaten Mike with a pay-cut to get him to handover the win next time though. ;)

I guessed most of you were sandbagging in practice (or only running race fuel stints) as I sat pretty at the top with a 1:31.9 for the whole session. Sure enough come qualifying I managed 2 PBs to get down to 1:31.5, but it was still only good enough for 4th position.

As the race got underway I could see the top 3 were so close together going into the chicane and I started rubbing my hands hoping they would all take each other out :-*. No contact though, although Dan had to slow for a cut warning I assume and this put me up to third place.

Karsten chased me for 3rd whilst I chased Gary for 2nd. I got close to Gary near the pit stops so I thought I'd pit and try and jump him. Decided to change tyres as it's pretty quick in the IndyCar, had a great stop (one of my best ever in iRacing), but still when Gary pitted a few laps later he came out just ahead.

This gave me the impetous to really harass him though and with my warm rubber I got a great run out of T1 and then slipstreamed him up the main straight to take him into the chicane as he kindly backed out of a potential side-by-side through the chicane.

I got a little break on him then, but he soon came back after he was up to speed and he pressed really hard. With about 4 to go I had to take defensive lines into 2 corners (which I don't normally like doing) to make it really hard for him to pass as I didn't want to give up the 2nd place. Not blocking, just taking a line early and sticking to it. After that he seemed to back off a bit (fuel?), but I also then put in my fastest laps of the race to come home a few seconds ahead in 2nd behind Mike for the second round in a row.

Thanks for hosting again, really enjoyed the race again. Look forward to the next one.

I tried both Mike's and yours (which I assume is the one Karsten shared?), but couldn't go any faster than my original one so gave up and went back to my original, which I then tweaked a tiny bit before qualifying.

Used a bit more fuel than I expected and could probably have done 16.4 + 15.0 but bottled it and went for 16.4 + 16.4, which meant I wasn't worrying about spluttering over the line as I had 2 gallons left at the end.

Another fantastic race  :)

Was getting a bit worried in practice as everyone was in the 32's and i presumed that was peoples race pace and i was struggling to get into the 32's, although the night before i had found a setup which i did a 32.4 with full tanks but couldn't get anywhere near it before the race. Anyway car felt pretty stable so i left it alone.

I was amazed to then find myself so far up the grid in qually just pipping Mike for 2nd.

I was a little scared having Mike and Simon behind me as i didn't think my race pace was good enough. Kind of messed the start up as i found myself ahead of Dan before the green so i backed off to get level but then Dan floored it and i was left for dead and Mike flew past.

Dan then overshot the chicane handing me 2nd and i settled down to a decent pace but Simon and Karsten were catching me pretty fast. Think i started with to much fuel maybe 19.3g. Simon got close near the pitstops but i kept in front and just got out a few secs in front after my stop, again i think i put to much fuel in. Simon got a good tow from me all the way up the hill and made a good move into the chicane, maybe i should of defended better but im not confident enough on the brakes. After that i managed to stay with him and even got very close a few times to maybe have a go but he placed his car very well and i couldn't get it done.

Really pleased with a 3rd again and feel im heading in the right direction with this car.

Grats Mike and Simon.

Yeah correct. Funny getting a cut warning even though i lost 2 positions.   The big red SLOW DOWN message didnt dissapear untill i reached the first left hander after the chicane so i dropped right back to 9th or something. :(

Anyway a race to forget after a good qually time.

Grats to Mike and podium.

The sure fire way of getting rid of the slow down message is to find a safe place to slow (you can actually leave it a few corners normally if they are not too long corners) and get down under 30mph. Then just speed up again as soon as you're under 30mph and that should make it go away (sometimes it takes a couple of seconds after you've started to speed up again for it to register you were under 30mph, but it will do it). Try it in some offline practice to help you work out how best/fastest you can get rid of the warning.

Well, that was fun.  ;D

I'm not putting massive amounts of practice in for the Indy cars as I simply don't have enough to go round.  I managed to find a bit of consistency on race fuel in the practice session though and was aiming for a clean run.  I was hoping to nip into the 31s for the first time in qually but a 31.63 was a little quicker than I was expecting and probably put me a bit out of position if I'm honest.

I was a little tardy off the start but held the inside line against Karsten and just had enough up the hill to hold him off.  I saw Dan cut the chicane so was ready to nip by when he slowed down which gave me back the ground I'd lost on Simon at the start.  Sadly I then gave it back with mistakes at the last two corners out of the Boot.  The first let Karsten alongside me outside into the hairpin and then I managed to find a box full of neutrals round the hairpin which gave him the advantage down the straight forcing me to cede the next corner or take us both out by not braking.

After that Ken was behind me but I was comfortable and started to string a few corners together.  Coming into the final corner next lap though I changed down and the back snapped round.  I've studied the telemetry and can't see any reason whatsoever for it snapping like that.  I took the corner identically many, many times through the race with no issues.  I suspect it might have been a slight warp contact with Ken behind.  He was well back and I didnlt get a 4x but that's what it felt like.

I hit the wall hard backwards with a big crunch and reset immediately.  It was a good place to get a tow from and I was under way before the leaders came round so set off after the backmarkers.  Robin was first up and I caught him just before the stop, then I chased down and passed Dan's crippled car after his stop leaving Ian about 10 seconds up the road with 7 to go.  I chased him down to about 1.5 seconds at the finish but a couple of mistakes near the end prevented me having a go at 4th.

That was fun though.  Did I say that?  5th is far better than I expected after the reset.

The podium was always going to be beyond me though given their pace.  Nice pace guys.

Mmmm.  Spa next.  Might practice that. :)

Paul

after a dodgy first few laps  ::) {sorry Andy :-\} I finally got into a comfy rhythm  ran long to pit-stop came out and tyres where bad for a few laps very hard handling then it settled down found myself in 4th  ??? how that happened I don't know  but it put a smile on my face until I noticed Paul was catching me in big chunks per lap {to many silly little mistakes watching split times to much instead of track  ::) } like he said though finally I kept the spot by a mere 1.5 seconds or so {sweat was pouring off me ;D} so from a lowly 9th on the grid a 4th place finish was really a big bonus  :)

{to many silly little mistakes watching split times to much instead of track  ::) }

You leave the split times on during the race?

I hate distractions during the race so split times go, chat messages go and I don't really like the F3 display as that's distracting too, but because for some reason that's realistic but putting tags above the cars to tell you the driver name and position isn't realistic we're forced to use F3 when we really just want the F1 display.

forgot to post anything!

Enjoyed the race and it is fast becoming my favourite car  8)

Quali was slower than my pb, which was only a 1m31.7 anyway so would have only been one pos up the grid! First time back in the car for a while and tried an (unsuccessful) Official race. Landed on a safe setup but was just too high in downforce, and I repeatedly got drafted down the straight... by a big margin. Was too late to change it by quali so I stuck with it.

First lap i ran out of room next to Ian through the chicane and had a harmless spin (thanks for waiting mate  ;)). We had opposite setups so I was making time in the corners and he got it all back on the straight.

After everyone having issues apart from the top 3 (after your damage Dan  ;)) I was running 4th and with a damaged front wing and I spun and backed into the wall. The car was crabbing and I had to retire  :-\

Its taking me 3 races to get back into iRacing but more or less back to my old pace  :P

Don't forget there is a single "fast"-tow available.

Yes. That's the only difference between a fast tow and a slow tow as they both tow at the same rate, but one fixes the car and the other doesn't. Basically, one is a complete waste of time and the other does at least fix your car. :)

Yes, I was surprised to get my car fixed after a tow. In the early SROU iRacing days we did have tows but they didn't have repairs. Thankfully the people on TS let me know, so cheers for that guys.

You also get the tank topped up to whatever was in your setup so a reset mid race would lose you very little time in this series if you wanted to do a Piquet. ;)  My crash was too early so I still needed to make a stop.

I've got into the habit these days of running without any of the panels unless I need them.  I have "Next Panel" on the right hand button and it's easy to quickly toggle through to get to the panel you need.
