Can't believe that after such an appalling effort and result at Kyalami, I am still 2nd and restricted to something with the power of a hoover combined with the power band width of an 80's motocrosser!

Still, Hristo and Tim would no doubt still push into the 1:30's or below, so guess there's no excuses.  Perhaps being handicapped in this way is the secret to alienship, but that's probably wishfull thinking.

Still, looking forward it nonetheless..

To avoid any delay due to my GPLRACER race I will put up the server at 19.35 UK time setting the quali time to 120 minutes. It is just to make sure that quali can start in time, 21.00, even if I have not finished my GPLRACER race by then.

Please do not enter the server until there is 35 minutes left.

Got a good start and was enjoying the slipstream that was allowing me to stay with the pack for a while.  Unfortunately my FF went off part way through the race (no idea why - it is OK now  >:( ).  Anyway had trouble with the feel of the car after that and I made a slight over correction for a slide at Club and I gently rolled the car.  Out of the race :(.

Banged wheels with Syd at Copse on about lap 10 and I ended up on the grass but no harm done.  Just pleased by connection is good enough to cope with close racing these days :thumbup1:  At the start of the season a slight nudge like that would have induced a warp related bomb that would have catapulted me into the crowd.

This was my first race since the first of the year.  I have been travelling and unable to participate.  Since it was Silverstone, I decided to brave the rust and see how long I could last.  Had an enjoyable race although nowhere near pole time.  Thanks to all for the great racing and courtesy (as always).  I'll try to be more diligent!

My race was really crap. A big SORRY to all my so called driving affected. And it was a shame as it started quite good, well except the first lap of cause when I as usually lost some places. But then I was following Al and KH and after a some time I was in front of them in 4Th position.

Then the crap begun.

I think I need to work on my fitness, as it seems I have problem focusing for a whoole race.

quiet pleased although I couldn t get a good float. I let Al pass me when he attacked and Gøran followed him so tight that I had to let him go too. I went wide and Fulvio passed. I followed fulvio and made him sweat for his 4 th at least. He did his share of small mistakes but so did I and never got in a position to pass through those last laps. Gøran and Al had an incident so 5 th was granted to me.

My race was a short one, but fun while it lasted.

I'd a car which would happily do 1.34's all day.  Except that, once under way, those behind me started being awkward, and insisted on running in the 1.33's.  As luck would have it, I was already familiar with the track, so I started staring in my mirrors, while apparently Syd behind me, started staring at my tailpipes.  So naturally, when I ran wide at Club, he quickly moved in for the 'Coup de gras.'  Race over! :-\

Grats to Hristo and Tim, I just could not get on terms with them in the race and they slowly pulled away. Maybe if I had squeaked a few tenths off in qualifying and tucked into their slipstream I might have interfered with their battle ;D.

I changed my mind about which car to use only 2mins before we started. I had been trying to tame the power of the Lotus 43, but although it was quick on the straights I just could not get it to go around corners  :-\. So I knew that I had used the Eagle in a previous race and maybe that setup would at least enable me to get to the finish with 4 wheels still attached!!
I was surprised at how stable and smooth that Eagle setup proved to be and I was able to push really hard with total confidence, unlike the Lotus!!

By using a very low 1st gear I got a good start and tucked in behind Goran, who seemed to be having problems on cold tyres and I felt I could go faster if I could just find a way past....but he had the power on the straights to make life difficult!!  Fortunately for me he made a mess of the exit and run up to Abbey and I was able to get right up the inside and take 3rd spot...but could I hold it???
I pushed hard for the next lap and slowly edged away, but Hristo and tim had already pulled a big gap and I did not want to risk everything to catch them that early in the race.
After that it was a lonely race for me, punctuated only be Tim allowing me a brief glimpse of him in the distance after his spin, and Fulvio emerging from the battle behind to start closing the gap around mid-race, but I was able to up my pace slightly and stretch my safety zone to finish a comfortable 3rd.
Just goes to show that a setup that is comfortable and predictable is worth far more than outright speed. Of course a little alien DNA would help even more...... ::)

Tim proved to be very tough to handle in the race and I suspect he was probably running on race fuel in Qualifying, or never managed to do a clean lap. I lost the lead at the start and almost dropped to 3rd due to making 1st gear a bit too long, which led to the revs dropping down too much.

Initially I was planning to take it easy after the start until the engine and tire temps go up, but with Tim pulling away up front I had no choice but to push to the limit. The slipstream helped a lot, otherwise I don't think I had the pace to challenge him early on. Eventually he lost it in T2 and handed me over the lead, but the gap back to him was just a couple of seconds and with my quarter of a spin on the exit of the right-hander after the hangar straight (I'm not one to remember corner names), the gap was down to 4 seconds.

It stabilized at 3 seconds for a while, but then Tim went up a gear and closed in within 1-2 seconds, and we had a long struggle driving on the limit, with neither one of us getting the upper-hand. Fortunately for me Tim made another mistake and dropped a couple more seconds back, but then I had an identical loss of control like the one I had earlier, at the same place, so Tim closed up a bit again.

The handling improved a lot as the fuel went down though and I managed to do a string of very fast laps, and without the benefit of slipstream the gap to Tim grew up steadily until the finish. He still got fastest lap though, so I wonder what would've happened had he not made those mistakes. It was a very tough race overall.

Maybe....  ;D
Although my actual fastest lap was also done without slipstream, I finally dumped all my fuel with 5 mins to go as I wanted to ensure a good starting position and no-one wouold oblige!

Had good pace in the race but my 2 spins ruined any chance of a win. I recon the finish could have been interesting had we remained together!
