Start: STANDING

Fuel consumption: 2x

Server: simracing.org.uk DUSK
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car

If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Some of the cars have a "Modern Compound" tyre choice. Can I ask that drivers do not use these tyres please.
When driving with headlights on, there is a small section of track (near Stavelot) where the lights flicker. This is a fault and cannot be fixed at this time. Providing you know about it in advance it should not be a problem.

This looks like a fantastic challenge. I hope I can make the event. I think a US holiday (memorial day) is right around this time frame. I am working in the city more and more so I may need to take a day off to do this event if it isn't a holiday.

Put me down for a 917.

Tony I have a problem - Norton Internet Security won't let me download this track as only 5 people have done so therefore Norton treats it as a threat and automatically deletes the file.  Is this the same version of the track we used in GTLDK (then I can copy that across) or is it an upgrade?  If upgrade can any Norton expert tell me how I can tell Norton to belt up and let me use the download?

Can't use most of the recommended Anti Virus as it screws up my BT Yahoo browser and email system.

Bill, it is the same version but with an asphalt upgrade.

Dump Norton. It used to be a great product but nowadays it's expensive bloatware. Maybe consider Kaspersky (other Internet Security software packages are available).

If I put it on my Humyo account would that help?

Tried that some time ago when we had our last bitch about Norton.  Screwed up my system and had to get BT to take over computer and sort it all out.  At that time BT told me Norton was their recommended Security System.  I agree it's far too complicated now but I'm loathed to try something else and go through all that nausea again.  I have been getting the car downloads through Humyo OK earlier this evening, so it could well help me.  Thanks

:) Have you tried AVG internet security. It used to be free with optional upgrade. I use it with Windows 7 with no problems. I also dislike Norton it used to slow everything to the point of futility.

Thanks for that Tony - sorted, although Norton gave me an orange indication and warned me I was the first person to download it, I was given options which allowed me to proceed anyway.  ;D

I use Norton too Bill, never had it refuse to let me download something though. A couple of times it has warned me that what I'm about to download might not be safe, but never when downloading sim racing stuff. I always scan any downloads before opening them though. Also I always put Norton into 'silent mode' when racing, stops it doing something unexpected & slowing things down or causing a minimisation.

Oh, nearly forgot (its my age you know!), the race looks interesting, however i will probably be going to BSB at Thruxton on the 30th so it depends what time I get home & how tired I feel, wether I race or not. 50/50 I guess.

Thanks Geoffers.  Until I tried downloading this track from File Front and Megaupload, I've never had a refusal to download - it just flashed red and told me only 5 downloads of this file and automatically deleted it.  I usuall use Humyo and as we said that gives you the option to proceed at your own risk.  I use to have problems racing with Norton cutting in but since I upgraded, some time ago, to a four core CPU I've had no problems with Norton.

I have a link to a converter here somewhere. heh. Did all the downloads as though I have the track from NoGrip and Altbierbude, I figure this'll help any possible compatibility issues.

I guess I better have a look around to see if you guys use Teamspeak, etc. Getting there.......

Now, to go fill that SROUK GTL install.........

This track has the asphalt upgrade so your tracks from elsewhere may not be fully compatible?

Definitely.   :scared:  I don't know how many cars will survive the first couple of offs particularly in the fastest sections, also too many stone walls houses etc. I need to get a less twitchy setup that I can still get around corners with. :whistling:

Has anyone noticed that the Lola does not show up in menu?

I just noticed this in my main install and quickly looked at my SROUK install and it appears the same(?)

Two problems I found, one being the class structure is wrong and the other is also related as it apprently wasn't completely converted from GTR2 as many of the files are GTR2 and not GTL. I am currently fixing this in my install and seeing if it cures things.

Anyone else see (or not see!) this?

Okay, just took a look at the SROUK version, all appears well except the Moteurs Morand Lola Chevrolet #86 car. It has a couple files still as GTR2 files. I'll take a look and see if it affects the car itself.

EDIT:
false alarm. My fault, I realised after looking that I apparently had a version 2.01 which I suspect I got at hubert's site, Evolution and apparently did it long enough ago not to realise I did it. The 2 GTR2 files don't seem to affect the mod as is so.......sorry................

 I think too much. ;D :D

It's the same with mine. The Lola's don't have a piccy, just see a Cobra instead but in-game it's fine.

Yeah, the "Cobra thing" isn't a problem, just means Hubert never did blk files for the mods.

This is quietly creeping up on us all. Any clues as to who's running in which class yet?

Also, have these mod been updated since we last used them? Had a look in my versions and there's no read me to give me a clue if they're v2 or not  ???

When did we last use them? Was it a Bank Holiday special at Brands Hatch?

I would say that you should all delete your current Porsche 917 and Lola T70 folders and install these latest ones.

Doesn't work in the Alfa, for me. It just seems that you simply have your foot down all lap long and it makes a dreadful sound flat out. Was disappointed, then tried the Lola. Wild, wild ride. Much more like it :)

Sadly, I'm a bit touch and go for this dependant on whether a plasterer arrives at my place. No chance you say ;)

+1 for the Lola. This V.2 is even better than the original release  8)

Had a few laps on the server and 3:20 seems to be about my race pace. Anymore and I start burning up my tyres and/or checking out the scenery.

Top tip....practice those pitstops  :cursing:

Yes the pit entrance is too near the last corner for comfort.  For a Le Mans Series race on GTLKD, I practised pit stops but still managed to miss it.  It was wreck the car on the pit wall or try and go around again - ran out of fuel!!

Sorry about that Tony, been busy (no excuse) I had them downloaded but not installed.  Done now but I have two Porsche 917 K cars listed - No21 is separate from the other 917 Ks.  Is this correct or have I more work to do to sort it?

Err, let me get back to you on that Bill. Won't be long.

Did you delete the V1 car folders before installing the V2's?

Have the online setup folders disappeared again? I can get in OK but there's nothing there. I have 91.121.7.48 in my LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT, which I believe to be correct.

Yes Tony "in-game", thanks.  ;D  My problem is most days I manage to get in about an hour to do all my racing bits and pieces or practice before lunch and when I get the can I have to go.  :ban:  Next time I go on the computer I've forgotton I only did half a job.  :wheelchair:  Good job somebody's there to remind me.  :thumbup2:

Though it has a mind of it's own, and wanders about the track like a hovercraft
I rather fancy running the 512 for this. 3:20's race pace

Well I plan to win the P3.0 group  :P

My best time in the  :-X is a 3:22

BTW the Porsche 908-2 seems to have no pit limiter fitted. To avoid penalties remember that the pit lane speed limit is 40mph.

There will be many pit stops in this long distance enduro event so it really is a good idea to practise a couple.

My availability may have just evaporated. The starter on my truck gave up the ghost and my wife wants me to change it to save some cash. Toyota in their infinite wisdom put it under the intake manifold so it will take quite a bit of time to access.

On Standard Vanguard, the RAF MT fitters, use to put them on the ramp, remove left front wheel and take the starter out through the wheel arch.  Problem is fitting engine complete with accessories into car at factory with no thought of of how to remove components for servicing.

;D Many years ago I worked for Peugeot as a mechanic. We used to get other independent garages bring us engines in pieces to be rebuilt because of the special tooling involved. Back in the early 80's Peugeot's were a truly horrible vehicle to work on eventually we became a Nissan dealership what a breath of fresh air in those days Nissan's were like Meccano kits and never went wrong. When I worked for Audi the mechanics never worked on a gearbox if they went wrong they were replaced as a unit. Cars are not meant to be worked on these days the manufacturers strive to make them impossible to work on so the owners have to return to the dealers for all servicing.  ::)

Having practised pit stops, remember folks that the start is downhill and I had a stop and go for false start.  Restarted and watched the replay, the creep it was quite a lot. I think we need to use brakes - Ive not got handbraked designated will have to do something.  So no wild starts please.

For Porsche 917 go to REPLAYS. In the GTL box you will find Srou_GTL_Porsche 917K_Hubert_2.0.0.0.exe

Click this and it will download to your PC

EDIT: Now there's a Gamefront download available http://www.gamefront.com/files/20382396/SRou_GTL_Porsche917K_Hubert_2.0.0.0.exe

I was in the server with Henry and M.Cinderby and I saw thier fantastic laptimes (3.07-3.08)!

I was struggling to go under the 3.15 with vintage compound in the Ferrari (maybe I could do a high 3.12 with a great lap risking the life)... then I discovered the Modern Compound, and it was obvious that I was missing something  ::) ::). At the first attempt I managed a 3.06.8xx.

In the case I will join this race, it's possible to use the Modern compound? Or we have to use the Vintage? I'm saying this because there's a really huuuuuge difference in terms of laptimes and wear with these 2 different tyres set.

Thank you in advance :)

Read the race announcement. Particularly the Notes at the bottom.  ::) Modern Compound is not to be used as only a couple of cars get this option.

Drivers are asked NOT to use the Modern Compound tyre.

Not all the cars have this option so it's unfair to use them.

It has been pointed out that the starting grid is on quite an incline and that some may benefit from enabling a handbrake.

You can do this if you go to CONTROLS then click the EXTRAS tab. Then you can assign any unused button/key to operate a handbrake.

I'll just keep my foot on the footbrake but each to their own.

Even for me will be difficult to join this race... I guess I won't be able to come back at 9 o clock (Italian time obviously). If I'm lucky, I will be able to join during the last minutes of the qualif session, but I won't be able to do the whole race, cause I've to meet some friends later.

However, I will try to race as much as possible :)

thanks for the link tony. unfortunately my installation with Win7 (which i only got 2 months ago) means it is playing silly buggers.... keeps harking on about me not being the administrator (i am) and when i think i got past that bit it resets and windows fails to start and has to automatically sort it out.... very long and crap.

anyway, requested a copy of GTL Revivial and they have already replied with a code  :) ....problem is the link is 2.5GB and won't be downloaded in time! godammit!  ::)

at least i'll be set for some future GTL races  :)

I Felt really bad after this incident and seeing the carnage behind didn't really feel like continuing. Anyway I lost concentration and went over the bank at the end of lap 2. Avoided most of the start rubbish, then had some great chasing laps with Sqrtr, went into pit one after the other
I forgot you have to tell it what fuel you want, and it put non in, tried reversing and back into stall
but they refused to put some in, went off to try to get round again, but 1: Stop and go for speeding in pit lane
2: ran out of fuel jst after eau rouge. Annoying, was shaping up to be a good one.

Brilliant idea for an event Tony! I really loved the challenge of driving the 917 at Dusk and into the night. Too bad the stupid GTL game didn't agree with me tonight. I had a bunch of problems after I restarted my computer. I practiced 4 pit stops offline and all went well each time. I even did a run down pit lane and into my box at the end of quali. Come race time, I had a huge lead at the end of my 1st stint (hard slicks only lasted 8 laps on the 917K). When I stopped in my box, the crew didn't service me. I reversed a bit thinking I may have overshot the box, but still nothing. I limped around another lap to give it a second go. I ran out of fuel in the pit lane, but luckily, putting the car in neutral got it rolling to my stall. I was very, very conservative with aproaching the box this time. Regardless of what I did, the crew refused to service me. It is quite dissapointing considering I practiced so much and had a comfortable lead in the race. I was poised to simply cruize with the 40 second lead I had after the 1st stint. I think I'm done with GTL.

Again, good event though Tony. Wish I didn't run into problems so I could have enjoyed the entire thing. In hind sight, it would have been better in the LOLA with SBG though.
My setups to follow. The modern tires were good for 5-6 seconds quicker than my soft quali setup. The modern tires would have required some setup changes as they were very pointy on the front end.

OK for about 18 to 19 laps when I ran up a grass bank and flipped over the fence into the dreaded 3rd dimension to spend my life whirling through time and space.   ;D

things went better than expected. after the horrible eau rouge the car felt better and better with every lap.
could keep the mistakes on an exeptable level and after my porsche system engeneering team mates left, i was able to took the lead.
but of course everything ends somewhere along the way
i guess i did half of the race as a very small mistake let me lost the back before a corner and i came on the green. couldn't slow down enough and went over the wall.
unluckily quick enough to fall into nowhere. :'(

hope all others can finish the race ;)

Same here Bill, but complete lack of practice meant I only lasted 3 laps. Congratulations to anyone who manages to finish this race.

Thanks for laying that on Tony.

Had great fun battling Jaqen in first stint. He'd make the odd slip, then the 917 grunt would see him back with me in no time. Repeat until end of stint, good, fair driving. In those cars, that just had me beaming :) Sadly, that was pretty much it till end of race and ta to Ade for finishing it early (the shame if I crashed out and you won with the class II car :)).

Will gladly drive those cars again and again and again if need be :) Maybe a shorter race and lessen the chances of dodgy pitstops would be better next time, if there is one.

What a great event, really enjoyed that tonight. Decided late on to take the 908 as things were looking a bit barren in the slower class. Thought I was going to be left in the dust, but the fuel consumption/tank size of the 908 brought me into play nicely meaning I was on for a 2 stopper and would also have the bonus of no tyre changes.

Unfortunately I made a right whopper on the slowest part of the track and
stalled/restarted/stalled/restarted/stalled/restarted  :wetfish: I might have still been on for a close finish had I not hit that silly bit of wall jutting out onto the track which abruptly ended my race.......didn't even see it until it was too late ::)

A little series of hour long events with these cars would be nice, although finding the right mix to balance them out for shorter events could be tricky  :-\

That nobody finished isn't strictly how it happened. Our two Champions, Ginsters and Ade, on being the last two cars, decided to call it a day before they reached the 36th lap. And who can blame them.

That was good  8) shame about the mess at Eu rouge at the start ??? come on we can do better than that ??? i had folk flying past me off the start when there was no need at all  >:( its a long race, just tuck in and wait for a bit please :)
I got myself through the melee only to check my rear view to see what was going on and ran wide at T2 pointing the wrong way and had to wait till everyone went past :(
then saw someone rubbing along the armco towards me :o tried to get out of the way but it didn't work :o
got my head down until the pit stop and hit the limiter at the cones to be safe then saw the line near the garages so thought that was the pit limit line, so next time in (it wasn't) and got a stop go  :( saw folk drop out here and there along the way  ??? giving Legzy and Spanner a driver running countdown on teamspeak ;D
it was me and GT for a close finish and i got a bit worried when he didn't pit lap after lap  :o he must have some sort of solar/moon powered thing going on there ;)
Then it was me in class 2 all on my own , SBG and Sqter at it for  victory then  just behind me i see Sqter take a dive over the armco :o
I give SBG a shout over chat and let him know i give in  :surrender:  with 10 laps to go, didn't see the point in taking it to the end, although i was enjoying hot lapping it ( but boy was my throttle foot ragging) triple racing socks next time :D

Cheers Tony for setting this one up 8)
                                                                         Thanks all for turning up

Sounds like you guys had a good time ;D Grats Ginsters,Ade, Sqter

I have to pull out of this one as well :-[. I got invited to a whale watching tour in Long Beach :). We'll see if the whales show up :-\. From what I hear it's a 50/50 thing. Have a good race fellas :thumbup2:
You should see some of the whales we get on our beaches here in the UK, spoiling my nice Fish n Chips by turning up in their two pieces! ;)

Gee, I thought I wouldn't see any whales and then I got to port and there they were!!! :whistling:

So the skinny of the trip was there were no whales. A couple of small harbor dolphins and that's it.
A great boat and tour plus a rare view of the Queen Mary was worth the trip :boat: :thumbup1:

Thanks for that treat Tony.  Went much better on the night than all my previous attempts.  After being punted off and getting a cut track warning I managed to settle down into a rhythm and all went well.  First pit stop, at lap 12, went OK - no damage and no new tyres, which seemed set to last the race.  Watched as drivers dropped out for various reasons then after a few laps attention started to wander until I spun and hit the barrier.  Handling seemed OK so continued, avoided goldtops accident thanks to his swift action in quitting as I was trying to work out which way to go.  Then I went up the grass and over the fence - don't think I braked late or missed the turn in, so may be the accident earlier had given me a touch of understeer.  Who knows, I needed a P so had planned a long pit stop to have one, you know the old  adage P is for relief - it's me age y'know.

Good fun that. Because of a few preceding events, I perhaps foolishly turned up to this race with no practice  ::). I knew the track well enough though didn't really crack to setup. The Porsche felt like a boat through some of the corners. After the first lap melee, I found myself in 4th, but gradually dropped back with a lack of pace. Eventually I fell foul of the zealous cut corner warnings and completed a stop and go. Soon after another cut warning happened but this resulted in a straight stop and go instead of a warning. Another one followed the next lap and another stop and go was required! With a further 2 stop and gos needed I wasn't really in the mood to race, and a spin at the Masta Kink obliged me to retire.

Congrats to the winners  :).

I would have loved to stay, but my pit crew decided to leave.
