Sorry again for the late notice gusy. Working in the city has really taken its toll on me. 4 hours travel each day is already getting tiring. I'm not even sure if I will be able to make any more races. I set the practice session for 90 minutes in hopes to make up for some of the lost practice time over the weekend. Practicing together is also much better on this track because there will be a lot of drafting going on. It can also be a bit dull while lapping by yourself.

Reims is a very high speed track essentially in the shape of a triangle. For the 3 cars I've selected, the Shelby Daytona coupe was the quickest overall for me, but just by a hair over the Shelby Cobra. The Cobra is quicker in the few twisty bits and leaps off the corners, but the Daytona has a top speed advantage with it's slippery skin. The red cobra with it's larger window has more grunt, but is less slippery than the others. The Vette is the easiest to drive in my opinion, but is a second off the pace in my hands. I included it for variety. It is also a little faster than the cobra in a straight line.

We'll do a standard 15 minute qualifying session and around a 30 minute race.

My first thoughts on seeing the car list is that everyone will be in Daytona's and maybe L72's due to the top speed 'problem' suffered by the Cobra.
Have just done some laps and the Cobra is - as you say - managing to lap within 10ths of my old Daytona time.
Havn't been able to properly test the L72 yet as I'm about to go out but it goes fast, sounds nice, and doesn't try and kill you in the fast right handers!
I'd be tempted to say the Cobra is the 'safe' choice though - I felt it was the easiest to drive as long as you can manage the hairpins, also the brakes are phenominal compared to the other 2 cars!  ;D

Is it worth you adding the 275 GTB/Comp for anyone dissapointed at having to slum it with 'only' 8 cylinders?
I had one lapping within tenths of the Daytona and Cobra - their prob if it explodes after 5 laps! A;though mine did most of the race length while playing with it and refused to burst into flame :)

Thanks for that Stig/Hotkeys -downloaded OK now need to drop into PnG.  ;D  Been on track it's "A" OK, thanks again.  8)  Daytona seems a no brainer here, it's about 20 mph faster than the Chevie.

I think you need to work on the gearing for your L72 - it'll just top 170mph!
Havn't had a Daytona upto 190 yet  :P
That said the Chevy is deffinatly the slowest of the bunch in terms of outright laptimes...

I love the 427 Cobra so a no-brainer choice of car for me. My best so far, with 100L of fuel, is 2.20.8.

You certainly don't want any excursions at this track - even the corn fields can write your car off :)

Mmm, I can only get it upto 175  ???, nearly equalled your laptime though Stig, 2.20.2. I think a good draft will make quite a difference to laptimes here.

Tyre pressures and toe settings will make a difference here in terms of top speed, not much, but it might explain your slight lack of pace - also remember that your exits from the 2 hairpins are absolutely critical for laptimes as they determine your pace throughout the entire straight that follows them!
Do not be tempted to try and get on the power to soon as it will loose you heaps of time. Late apex and a smooth, clean, fast entry onto the straight is the goal here  :)

I'm going to Daytona it up I think. very good lap times for me  ;D

Oh, and why is everyone running with 100 litres of fuel? the 427 only needs 90 litres (based on my fuel calcs) and the Daytona only wants 76! (tested)
Only car that will need 100 is the L72, and that's including my slight 'safety' margin  :)

No problem by me provided you have control over the car using the keyboard. I can remember the days of Grand Prix 1 by Microprose on a 386 box using a keyboard. Driving Monaco has never been as tough as those days.

Good luck to you in the race azzkel. Enjoy the drive.

I just have started my own server for testing race and found out, that when a session will switch from qualification to the race, all cars will be disqualified, except these six:
Corvette; Daytona #9, #13, #59; Cobra #9, #91.
This is for one player on server, I don't know what will happen with more players.

We raced at Reims over at NG a few weeks ago & we did have a problem with a couple of people not being able to get on the grid at the race start. With 25 on the grid, we thought it was probably down to too many drivers for the number of grid slots.

Geoffers is right, I had forgotten, I got DQd in GC NoGrip race 1, not sure what car I was in. I did
race 2 in a Red Penske Vette

I think I was in the bottom of the list red Daytona. Stick with the cars in Miguel's list (thanks for the info MDR) and it should work.?

Thanks for the heads up Miguel.
I did a race here recently in GT40's with R2P. That was a limited carset though.

Great idea Tony. They should be very quick tests just to see if people can join the grid and start the race. If someone has a laptop, please post in the forum a consolidated list of flawed cars. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make the race. I'm compiling a new version of software for my clients and then going through the database update procedure.

Wait 40 secs..... click the button, get 100 popups & no ability to download >:( >:( >:(

Repeat process....

Finally it works & I'm getting 145kb's per sec... ::)
I'm used to my 1.2Mb or better a sec these days :euro:

Just in case (false start, crash), note that this track have the speed limit on pit lane - 47 km/h, the penalty for excess - Stop and Go

A very dull track, that's probably quite entertaining with 20+ cars. But not tonight.

Had a little bit of interest early on, getting past Alex, exiting a corner wide & needing to get past again, which we did a couple of times. :D

Decided to slow down to wait for Mcfids with about 4 laps to go, as nothing was happening & we seemed about the same pace. Glad I did & enjoyed a bit of drafting & only wish the whole race was like the last 4 laps... (which I'm sure it would with a big grid)

Well done podiums.

p.s. What was with the new start time? ???

Please spare a moment to read this

We hope you enjoyed this event. We are able to host these races at Simracing.co.uk due to the time and effort generously given by like minded enthusiasts and by donations.

If we charged for racing it would currently work out to about 50p per driver per race (based on the final quarter of 2010). That's what it cost's Simracing.org.uk to provide the server for all the series.

So, if you currently don't donate, please consider how many races you will partake in for three months and times that by 50p. Not much is it? So how about making that your minimum amount to donate? Of course you may wish to donate more, that's entirely up to you.

But this is the stark reality. If you don't donate, Simracing.org.uk will cease to be.

Donating is simple - please see this topic (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=754.0) for details. For the Simracing.org.uk bank details please pm Dave Gymer.

And remember the only person that profits from all this is you.

Thanks for reading.

You probably drove right of the little yellow cone on the straight. Also did that in one of the praccy races  :D

Great fun Legzy but I could not keep up.

Car choice for the track for good but must agree that the field got a little bit spread out.

On the other hand I had great fun keeping the slithering Cobra under control.

Wow! - That was awesome  ;D

Prior to the race I thought I'd sussed the clear winner of the 'fastest car' competition in the form of the number 10 Prototype Daytona - Which has no rear spoiler and therefore a top speed without draft of 182ish. Also it's hugely twitchy/loose rear end was actually helpfull to me as I was able to carry more speed through the first turn when I managed not to get sideways. All this made it some 2 seconds a lap faster than all the other cars I tried, so easy choice I thought.....

Then in Practice I find Ade, Miguel, Geoffers and Clive all doing 1:18's in their 427's and production Daytona's and realised it might be a tad harder than I thought :o

Managed a new non-drafting PB with my 2:17.xx in qually but that was only good enough for 3rd, which I knew would be tricky with a pair of Cobra's on the front row - no way I was going to out drag them to T1  :D
As it happed I got the drop on Miguel when he was late to start, but most of my advantage was lost in controlling the massive drift as I swerved to avoid him  ::)
Tucked in behind when he pulled clear and prayed Geoffers couldn't hastle me before the first go at the hairpin.
That was when I first realised the rediculous amount of power the 427's had over me! Geoffers was around me like a shot out of the hairpin, and it took until the crest of the hill to finaly pass him back with my superior speed.
I then threw my efforts away with 2 mistakes the following lap, the 2nd of which (not stopping in time for the first hairpin) allowed both Clive and Geoffers to get through.
I thought my race was over here as what gap I had been managing to the leading duo was now gone, and I was probably half a second down on Clive entering the main straight.
Over the next couple of laps I slipstreamed back upto Clive and Geoffers just as Clive made a pass stick, so settled in behind Geoff's Cobra waiting for a suitable occaision - This was duely presented at the end of the main straight and then Geoffers out-braked himself into the deal giving me the place nice and easy  8)

It then took another lap or 2 to catch Clive - who promptly ran wide exiting turn 2 allowing me to sneak past unchallenged again :ninja:

And that's where I probably would have finished if it wasn't for Ade outbraking himself into the final turn a few laps later while battling Miguel, and falling back enough that I could start catching his draft at the end of each straight.
Thanks to the No 10 cars huge speed advantage over the Cobra's I caught Ade enough that he simly couldn't escape me - Eventually I passed him on the outside of turn 2 ( :o) where it looked like he was leaving me room!
From there on I think I was racing in the tourist trophy as I spent the remainder of the race towing a big lumpy white thing around, a caravan in other words  ;)
My caravan seemed to be on a strange type of rubber towrope though as it would drop back slightly in the fastest sections and then bounce back under braking and in the corner exits  ;D
I don't know if the aero moddeling in GTR2 is clever enough to bump draft the leading car of a group, or if I just settled into lapping as cleanly as possible once I realised Ade my caravan was going to stay behind me - but I subsequently posted the fastest lap with about 2 to go, I think Ade must have done his PB then too  :)

All these shinanigans resulted in the pair of us catching Miguel who seemed to be slowing (tyres?) and I was right behind entering the final lap!
Exiting T1 and on the run down to T2 I carried more speed so dived up the inside - Miguel responded by braking incredibly late, although his resultant slide slowed us both and allowed Ade to gain somewhat.
I sat close behind Miguel then until the main straight where (once I'd caught up again) I passed him with ease and charged off towards the final corner, pretty certain no-one could challenge me before the exit.
I was wrong again as Miguel managed to nail his braking and shoved the Cobra up the inside at the last posible moment, so we exited side-by-side for the run to the flag!
Miguel's Cobra lept off initially while I bounced up and down in my seat begging and pleading with my car to accelerate faster  :D Eventually Miguel started to hit his maximum speed and I (now slotted behind and drafting for all I was worth!) was gaining, while Ade was practically in my boot!

I think I pulled out at about the 200 meter board for the pits and crossed the line about a nose ahead of Miguel's Cobra in the end  :w00t:

Well done to Ade and Miguel on a clean and well fought battle, and also to everyone else who made it to the end, great fun  :)

Not much to add after that FMG...

Got a good start but knew it wouldn't be long before  i was caught, as soon as Miguel got by i attached myself to his bumper but had to pop my nose out every now and then until i sussed his gear changes so i wouldn't bump him up the rear on his change up as i was running on the longest gear ratio.
All was going to plan with the bump drafting ( yes it does model bump draft FMG) and we got a good 5 second lead over the next car until i  braked a bit late and threw myself off so as not to hit Miguel :o
I knew i couldn't catch Miguel on my own so i had to wait for FMG to catch up and team up behind him to help push us both up to Miguel, and same as before i had to work out your gear changes and ease off the throttle as you changed up.
Don't think the finish could have been closer, great racing guys 8) :thumbup2:

                                                                                    Cheers Ade

Sounds like it was an awesome race! I gotta download the replay and watch the last few laps at a minimum. It sounds like the car combo's worked well.

Sorry I missed the event guys. I did get the software squared away. Now I must sleep.

As it turned out, I wasn't able to make this race  :'(. I'm going on 2½ weeks holliday, so I won't be able to join races for the next 3 weeks.

I hope you guys have some great races, and I sure hope the server is still alive, when I get back

Not too bad a race, at least for the first few laps.

Had managed some 2.18s in testing & with a couple of tweeks was hoping to get in the 2.17s. Unfortunately the tweeks didn't work, they made to car go too sideways on the power at T2 & T3. As I had saved the setup with the tweeks, I couldn't remember what settings I had before so had to live with them. ::)

Anyway the race started well, with the 427 power getting me ahead of Clive & then FMG, but top speed told & FMG got back ahead before the final corner. We then swapped places a few times with the 427 getting ahead on acceleration before the Daytona replied on top speed. After a couple of laps of this I got a wheel on the grass braking for the final turn & couldn't make the corner. Rejoined just behind Legzy (sorry about my rejoin Legzy, I gave it a bit too much throttle & it got a bit sideways!  :o) & overtook on the next lap. Hoped to make up time on Clive but we were lapping at much the same pace, so had to settle for 5th at the end.

Congrats to FMG, Miguel & Ade.

A good race last night with lots of very close drafting with Legzy - cheers for waiting, it made it a lot more exciting. Not too much incident although I did switch off before the last turn and sailed through my braking point at 165mph :).

Congrats to the podiums.

Have also thrown a tenner at the donation box as I always forget to donate to here, probably because we have seperate costs over at UKGPL  :-[

MegaUpload Suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :taz:

Wait 40 secs..... click the button, get 100 popups & no ability to download >:( >:( >:(

Repeat process....

Finally it works & I'm getting 145kb's per sec... ::)
I'm used to my 1.2Mb or better a sec these days :euro:

Any chance we can try to steer clear of Mega upload in future or offer an alternate? :)

Agree, just down loaded the track for Tuesday's race from No Grip - average down load time 1.33 Mb.  ;D

I know you like to be a bit self-sufficient here, but doesn't it save a lot of time & effort just to link to the download at NoGrip for the tracks.

That was good fun whilst it lasted - a true power track with fast curves  ;D.  As a result managed my best qualification for a very long time - less than 4 secs off pole, usually I'm into double figures.  That's the good bit the race was the bad bit.  At the start I had to lift as the car in front was slow away and the whole field streamed by me.  Had the inside of turn 1 and managed to overtake a few cars, still in similar position in T2 but had to lift as the car in front slowed before I wanted to.  As a result, had an off beside the corn field and just had a bouncing side contact.  Managed to hold it together for a few laps, had an off into the corn and knackered the right front tyre and suspension.  Limped around to the pits - I don't think I caused any problems - no complaints yet.  After my pit stop I was over 2 laps down and drove hard to try and catch up which inevitably resulted in a big off into the corn killing the car.

It was just nice to be able to lap in a powerful car for once - usually I have to use a less powerful car to be able to stay on the track.

Somehow I seem to show up twice but my alter ego wasn't fairing very well  ???

In the results txt file, delete the entry for you that has no lap data & try again ;D
It's a fairly common thing we have to get round when doing the results.

Thanks Alex, it's quite interesting looking at the graphs and trying to figure out how realistic my chances would have been had Ade not 'joined' me  :)

Silent but funny race on an interesting track for me, but finally a finish which is a success for me!

Except two or three little braking issues and rides outside the track without any further consequences
I wished I had some more fights with other racers but maybe next time.

Can't await P&G V3.

Thanks again for organizing this series.

About the same as mine.

When I put a foot on the grass it dropped me far enough behind you so that I was not getting any help down the straight.

From then on I was just having to hope that the front three would all hit each other.  My unassisted top speed was 284kph which I think is about 174mph.  Not enough to catch you.

I watched your scrap on the replay and it was good stuff.

Brilliant drive Tim.

Wish I had known about the prototype a day or so earlier but with the late race announcement I was hard pressed to decide petween the Daytona and 427 without looking for their variants.

Grats Tim, Ade and Miguel.

The Prototype rocked as it had an 'unassisted' top speed of just over 181mph  ;D It only gained about 2mph with Ade behind, although I'm sure I was on the limiter in top when drafting up behind you and Geoffers - must be nearer 190 I guess  ???
I really was quite loose though in the fast sweepers - I had to tinker with the suspension somewhat to make it controllable, even then I was steering almost entirely with my feet in T1 and 2 when I got them right  8)
