This is the first race of the new season. :)

I will give at least 2 weeks notice for the race announcements from now on.

Remember that the results of these races will be recorded permanently on the SROuk web site so get practising. ;D

The Lower Endurance will be 4 races using the GT2 cars.

If GTR Evo proves popular then we will change over to that for a 4 races championship once the GT2 championship is complete.

Just noticed that the server was still running Super GT's at Enna, so have restarted the server with GT2's at Algarve.

so come on then, whats everyone racing with this season ?  Not sure whether to take my trusty Porsche steed or try something else.  :-\  Just did a 1:45.2 (40mins race fuel) in the 997 after half hour praccy.  Tyre wear seems low here and hard to get some temps into the tyres.

Shame we never got a few more GT2s into the mix, like the vette, aston and ford GT.

I agree. :-\

Don't know which car I'll take yet. We use this class so rarely I forgot what I didn't drive yet. :( Noz sure I like 2x fuel, though. Extra weight takes fun out of this class. But I understand the strategic reason for this decission. :)

bit quiet round here  :(  1night before the race and still only a handful of posts. Anyone turning up?

couple of questions:-  1) can we have engine health re-used now in our racing series. I always thought it was crap that we can run the engines at full revs all the time. People should run the risk of engine problems if they abuse the engines rev range and their gear changes.

2) can we also start using flag rules? Never understood why we didnt  ??? Having just run a season over at RD using them, where they worked very well, particularly blue flags in qually and race, and yellows... it baffles me that we dont.

As you were  ;D

I'm confussed, to my knowledge, we've always run this setting on normal(ie you slowly damage your engin for consistantly going in the red with your revs) ???

I'll be there unless my mrs has planned on another Sunday baby delivery (just to make me miss a race!) ;)

With Legzy (first time for everything ;)) I thought the change we made to engine health was they simply all start at 100% healthy rather than the random health levels the game used. I've certainly been able to blow engines up since these changes were introduced.

Managed to do 45's in the 997.

Shows how long you've been away MJ! Yeah, engine health does drop but its not going to drop so quick that your going to struggle to finish a race. No racecar is that fragile!

We've also always used flag rules, however qually might just be handled differently between games.

We stopped using flags 'cause of some bugs - blue flags were popping up on strange places and you could get a drivethrough. I feel I can comfortably race without blue flags using TAB and common sense. ;)

I like this track but it is tough to master. :o I'm having to be very precise with the braking. Best time so far for me is 1:44.5 (40l of fuel) in the F430.

I'm a bit faster in BiT but it's a bit unstable and I doubt I can be competitite, drive on the edge and finish the race. :-\ I'll be taking my F430 with another reason for it: there may or may not be another chance here. :-X

can we have engine health re-used now in our racing series. I always thought it was crap that we can run the engines at full revs all the time. People should run the risk of engine problems if they abuse the engines rev range and their gear changes.

The fixed engine health was done to prevent people from going on and off track repeatedly in the 2 minute wait before a race. People were doing it until they got the engine health that they wanted and it was considered to contribute to disconnections.

The fixed engine health is not part of the SuperGT500 cars so we don't use it for them but, with less people on the track these days stability does not seem so much of an issue any more. I do actually go on and off my self until the engine health is at least 80% but, I don't keep doing it until its 100% and I give it a few seconds between each attempt. ;D

Post by: Dave 'Gizmo' Gymer on March 13, 2011, 06:08:28 PM +0000
The "fixed" engine health didn't stop your engine going pop if you abused it - it just removed the random variability that was visible in XD, and meant your engine might go pop before somebody who was abusing theirs more than you just because you were unlucky and started with a bad engine and they were lucky and got a good one.

You'd have to check the .ENG files for the SuperGT mod to see if it uses the random variation or not.

Post by: H@L9000 on March 13, 2011, 06:19:34 PM +0000
Indeed.

SuperGT does use variable engine health and you can still blow your engine with 99% health at the start, believe me. ;D

With variable health it can some times be as low as 50% (in newer XD anyway, it would be a higher number with the older XD).

hi,

i do not know if i can drive this race, but i have questions.

is this standing start or manuel formation lap?
i do have the old install of the carpacks, is there any changes in the cars or can i drive the old carpack (think last time in season 12 the GT2 class was used)
i see only 2xfuel, is tyre out 1x then???

did no laps actual, but i know track.

You may need physics pack v2.13.0.0

Yes.

I hope to see you in the race. :)

well that went well... got distracted, went on the grass and hit an invisible object, turning the car upside down.
I`ve now deleted GTR2 and decided to concentrate on GPL instead because I just dont seem to be getting on with these modern cars and tracks. Thanks for making me welcome guys and I hope your season goes well for you all.

sorry to hear Blito, should have perservered mate, it might have clicked along the way.

Had a great fun first race. GT2 lived up to expectation with good close racing throughout and a decent spread of cars. Shame the field was still small at 11 cars but always seemed to have somebody to race tonight at least  :)

Struggled with overheating tyres for most of the race but wonder if thats because i seemed to be able to take the final corner and T1 quicker than most others i saw near me, so more lateral g's into them  :-\ Perhaps the higher wing i had worked against me there, but i dont think i would have got away with any lower in the twisty infield as the car was already a handful under braking into some of them.
Still, always makes it fun when one car is quicker on one part of the track than another.

Had good battles with Legz, matt and H@L. Lost time in the pits...as always ::)  but got lucky when 3 cars that got past me in the pits had a bit of argy bargy and i scampered back past. H@L chased me hard for final 10 minutes and forced me to do my fastest race laps of the night !  :P

Congrats to berger on outstanding pace, TT for second  8) and Legz for jammiest podium finish  ;D though good work all the same  :)

Ha, Portimao rules. 8) F430 was a car to have here. With rear wing 4 I had a good time and my only mistake was changing tyres. Pitted with 20 min to go and was munching in my head how much fuel I need and completely forgot to leave tyres on. Lost 20 sec there, so I'd be right behind Berger in the end. :wetfish:
H@l was a bit pesky in the first part, I must say I was a bit scared of that high speed Seat. Managed to adapt and saw it was enough to have 1 sec lead out of last corner to stay in front on that long straight. :)

Lovely track, always a good race here. Grats Berger and Legzy. :)

i think same, that F430 was great to drive here in portimao .
but i did drive with wing 8, that the rear tyres did not overhead and hold for 50% of race, i did drive with softs in rear and meds in front.
and i was surprised, that i  was so much in front of you (TT) after your pitstop, i was 100% sure you did not change tyre if i saw that you do stop so late, i did push a lot for be in front of you after your stop, had been close if you did not change tyres.
in quali i saw, that the soft tyres in rear do hold very good, so i did risk and did drive with soft in rear the race and do make tyre change.

i was very happy with my race, never ever i was thinking i can do pole and win the race, because i did my first laps perhaps 30min. before quali did start, but F430 was so easy to drive and i know track good.
the race was good too, did make much fun, perhaps i do make more races in lower endurance (but not sure, wife do not like that i do drive on sunday night)

crikey, soft rears held their grip for a 60min race ?!!  :o  I dont think ive ever got away with soft rears in a race in GTR2. I guess those med fronts added some understeer to counter the oversteer as the rears wore down.

Yea, I was also trying it out with softs (all). Found out I'd be losing time and would really need to change tyres and that would negate pace advantage. And: rear softs were orange when pushing, I guess due to 4 wing. Meds were the ones to go and now I can really berate meself for changing them. Beating the mighty Berger, hm, hm. Close. :wetfish:

soft rears and med fronts  ???

Enjoyed that, good to get back in the swing of things with some close racing and some a little too close!

Seem to trip over Matt a few too many times, I seemed to be braking a bit later and carry a bit more speed! making following interesting especially around this track. Was enjoying the close racing after catching up to MJ, Legzy and Matt but had the go for the brakes a bit earlier than planned going around the double-apex righthander after the first hairpin making me spin and end up on the kurbs as both nsfast and Ade go past.

Surprised to see Legzy still in the pits when i pitted he was miles ahead but after i'd changed tyres and filled up with 85L I was still 30 sec behind! Came out with H@L around after his stop go and slowly seemed to be gaining on MJ ahead but too many issues and damage menat i wasnt as quick as i thought!

I had a great race, very busy, just the way it should be!
Seems that I managed a podium despite being 3rd slowest of everyone over a lap :o/ :scooter:/ :whistling:/ :ninja:/  (Even Ade was quicker ;))

But everything just seemed to go my way during the race, everyone did their best to fall off in front of me so I could pass safely & I had a decent stop.

Very entertaining start to the season 8)

I just need to work out where all my team mates have disappeared too now? :-\

Congrats to Berger & TT, great to see MJ back in UKGTR2 after being AWOL, it's always a pleasure beating him :-*

Nice race. :)

It was fun for me with lots of action on the track.

I had a good chase with TT at the start. I almost had him into T1 on the first flying lap but, decided not to try a move on the inside line in case I over did it on the cold tyres. That was a mistake as it turns out because I was not fast enough on the last corner to use my straight line speed against anyone. Doh! I followed TT until my scheduled stop and got a stop and go for speeding in the pit lane. :'(

I lost loads of time from that and had many drivers to pass to get back to 3rd. I was having a close fight with Spanner and could not make any of my moves stick and then I caused an incident. Sorry. :(

I made up a couple of places due to other peoples mistakes after that and gave MJ a bit of pressure at the end but, he was on form and not making any mistakes.

Well done podiums, thanks for attending everyone. :)

Entertaining race. I was a couple of tenths faster in the M3 than the 430 so took it. Tyre wear was massive though
Ended up going with hards on the front, and meds on rear, they lasted the race but front left was almost nothing
left in XD and though my initial pace was enough to keep up, later I was going slower and slower and was being
eaten on the final curve and onto the straight.
