I'm actually ready for this one having raced the official series last week.

Obviously Gary will be quicker by about a second but hey ho. :)

I ended up not running any official race last week due to sodding bug putting me in bed for a few days

gona search the forum for a few Rad set-up and try and get plenty practice in for this one ;)

We're going to clash with the Racing for Japan thing.

Is there anyone planning on running that in preference to this race?

Paul

I was going to try and run the 15:00 event (suspect it's going to be a slow work week, every project I've worked on since the start of the year has been iced or cancelled!), and the 17:00 Street Stock one.

I might still end up doing the 19:00 one and leaping out of that and straight into this race - should be good for 30 minutes practice, what could possibly go wrong!

I agree with you if the points counted against the DP championship.

Yeah that would be no problem for me Dave, of course if you did that then perhaps we can take the points based on the standings as at the end of lap 26 ;D

..or at the end of qual :)

As for Infineon, I think the DP will definitely be the 'wrong' choice :(

Did the 15:00 race - got third (http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/EventResult.do?subsessionid=3265389). Did feel a bit bad stealing 3rd from a Japanese driver... but not bad enough to give it back  (especially as there was an Aussie or Kiwi charging up behind us!).

Driving standards were... well, let's just say I expect tonight's race will be quite a contrast!

;D I was glad it wasn't 5 laps longer - I burned my tyres up pretty bad pulling away from Miki and Brett and the last few laps were a real struggle! :o

Sorry, but I'm  a no-show :(

After a right cod-up with the work rotas, I'm only just in and I haven't turned a wheel here at all, so no chance at all really.

Gutted.  :'(

Bah! Mike! :P My practice entailed winning my first race in the official IndyCar road series and then rushing around straight away to join this half way through the qualifying session. You're a good enough driver to cope with no practice like me.

Managed to set a time (the slowest of those set) in the time remaining with a setup that said "Infineon Long" on it (seemed like a good thing to pick ;D).

Not much to do but keep with that setup and just use the race as a practice session. As it turned out, I hung onto Gizmo at the start whilst I got up to speed with the track/car and I was still with him at the pit stops. I had started with more fuel so I hoped to jump him in the pits, but my extra laps whilst he had pitted saw me run wide and up the banking at the left handed carosel thingy corner losing me 10 seconds. Pitted soon after that but prompty span again, but once again missing any of the trackside barriers I was now 15 seconds down on Gizmo. Decided to go hell for leather to catch up and with that I was running what turned out to be pretty much the same pace as the leading DP (Brendan). I closed the gap to Gizmo as he struggled and on the last corner of the last lap I had caught him but by then it was just too late.

Well done podium.

Bit of a chore that one, took my existing setup which is probably miles out of date and tried a bunch of changes to try and make it work better but nothing I did made any less like wrestling a bag of oiled eels.

At least I got my fuel calculation right for once.

Just about clung onto Gizmoto's exhaust fumes for a few laps but soon the only car I was fighting was Shark's. He should by rights have slipped by when I ran wide out of 3A after one of many big wiggles. Pitted at half distance and swapped tyres, but despite the fresh boots I never recovered any real pace and the car felt more and more of a handful as time wore on - almost certainly me getting tired from the concentration-sapping handling. Despite a couple of big spins Shark was relentlessly hunting me down, and even a second stop from Ian wasn't enough to pull me up the order. Was massively relieved when the race ended - one more lap and I think Shark would've nailed me, such was his pace at the end.

Hopefully the final round will be easier as I can return to a known good setup.

what a plonker I am  ;D

after practice I thought "oh well I'll just run around at the back and pick up some easy championship points"

then in qualifying things altered and I found myself  4th on the grid don't know how that happened  ???

so then I thought "oh well I'll try and make a race of it and see if I can finish at least in that spot"  ;)

so we are sat on the grid and I fluff the rolling move off..sorry for who was behind me :-[ I have my sound set-up main sound is on my G35 headphones and I have spotter and chat on a single earplug using on-board sound card {find it easier to control all the different volumes ;)} well my earplug fell out and I was fiddling putting it back in when the cars moved  ::)
so race start I set off and first stint all worked perfect Paul didn't drop me off as quick as I expected and Dave didn't rush past me as expected and I even kept the thing on track which was a totally unexpected  ;D
just as I was planning to pit I found Paul off the track after hitting the wall this put me 3rd  :o so next time round I pitted as I had planned to apart from I decided as I entered the pit to only take fuel so changed the settings as I trundled down the pit lane, all went well and I shot off out of the pits thinking good that went smooth BUT as i was altering F3 back to relative for the rest of the race i went through the fuel and noticed it said I had enough fuel for 4 laps LESS than the race length :o :o...........i must have hit the button to drop fuel when i decided to unchecked the tyres and short fuelled  :o ::) :-\...........my next thought I won't type  ;D ;D ;D ;) so there was me having a much better race than I expected  especially as the next lap I ended up in 2nd place as I got past Brendan as he was leaving the pits and i thought tight track if I can keep it together maybe he won't get past .ha ha as if ;) anyway I ran a few laps in second then though seeing as I have to pit again  to save the pressure of having Brendan  on my tail I let him go {OK OK I messed up and went wide at the bottom of the short hill ;) he would have got me the next lap anyway ;)}
so now I had work out best way to cope with the lack of fuel and decided best to pit again for the splash early so if I dropped places I would have a few extra laps to try and get the spots back  so I dove in took the splash and flew out the pits again and found I still had about 4 seconds on Dave rest of the race I just did my best to keep that gap on Dave to the end of the race which I did

so all in all yes it was a poor turn out but boy was it a lot of fun a hell of a lot more fun than I was expecting

well done Gary and Brendan on the 1. 2. finish

and a big thank to all for another fun evening on track .and to think I near left this series at the beginning cos I couldn't drive the car to save my life  ;)

CY next time on track guys;)
Ian

That was careless.

I couldn' get it together in qually but I doubt I'd have beaten Brendan even if I had.  From the start I aimed to stay in touch with the intention of using my shorter pitstop to get past.

Then the fool went and span in the hairpin.  There was no room to get by but I was now right up his gearbox.  What I should have done is eased back and resumed plan A but I decided to try and put some pressure on.  On one lap I came into T1 a little too quickly, it slid wide and I hit the wall.

Had I reset imediately I might have been able to take advantage of Ian's extra stop but I decided to see if my obviously bent car was drivable.  It wasn't.

I drove to the finish in case anyone else crashed but noone did.

Mike's no show puts me in with a chance of the Radical title at Spa but it's hardly deserved if it happens.

Well done to Gary and Brendan on a pair of perfect drives and also to Ian for keeping it on the road for an hour here which isn't easy.

Paul
:)

So Brendan's strategy was to deliberately spin, drawing you in closer (like Maverick in Top Gun) causing you to spin and wrecking your carefully constructed fantasy, sorry strategy of leapfrogging him in the pit stops.

Yeah I can see that ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have to say I love this track, the flow from corner to corner is a real challenge.

Qually went well enough with a time a couple of tenths off my PB. In the race it took a few laps to settle down but making a bodge of one corner early on got my attention. The only other thing of note was that on one of my practice stops I was told I was too far left in the pit stop so making sure that I didn't do that again I was then too far right so my stop was a little slower than it should have been.

Congrats Brendan and Ian in particular but to all those who did bother to turn up.

Its all to play for at Spa for the overall, Radical and team championship, congrats to Brendan for winning the DP title, especially that excellent Silverstone win ;)

Regards
Gary

My finest moments are often the one's where I do nothing at all ;)

Great drive Gary.  Untouchable.

I was a little surprised to be ahead of Paul on the grid as I expected the DP to be some way off the Rad pace, but a PB was good for 2nd.  This put me in a position where I had no choice but to try and push and build a gap to negate any time I would lose during the pitstops.  It was going reasonably well, Gary had cleared off and I had around 4 seconds on Paul, not enough, but something to work with.  As he said, I cunningly mucked up the hairpin ;) and the gap was gone.  What followed was about 6 quite poor laps with another silly off at the fast chicane at which point I immediately decided to pit.  Made a hash of the entry and clobbered the wall, fortunately no damage.  Was surprised to come out behind Ian and contemplated sitting there and waiting for him to pit although I soon fathomed that he might have already stopped and I better try and regain the place the hard way.

A near disaster with about 2 laps remaining gave me a brown trouser moment and after nursing the car over the final laps I was relieved when the chequered flag dropped.  2nd was far beyond my expectations, but I'm well aware there was a certain amount of luck involved, especially with some notable absencees and Paul's unfortunate demise.  Spose it makes up for Silverstone.  ::)

Anyway, thanks to those who made it and finished, grats again to Gary and Ian.  Looking forward to Spa already.
