The track textures seemed to take a toll on my computer. I had to turn down the graphics settings a bit on this track to get it to run smoothly.

The Lotus is quickest in the corners as expected. The Jag is very well rounded. The Corvette is decent in the corners, but is quicker down the straights. The Mustang is a ripper down the straights, but falls down in the corners. Which will work best?

It's an intriguing fixture Mike however with only three nights left before the race and a Team Wessex race on Tuesday your not making it easy for us are you?

ran some early laps in the Jag, Z06 and mustang. Felt good to be back behind the wheel of a vintage race car  8)

1:52.3 pb for me so far but still learning a new track and very easy to run wide here with the seducive sands dragging you in!

Think i may just don my flat cap and driving gloves and take the Jag old boy  :euro:  though the z06 was fun to drive too. I used a normal one not the number 5 and it was quick enough. Wont that No.5 beast flatten the opposition here with all that grunt up the hills?

Whats a decent time here? Got nowt to compare.

managed another 20laps online this eve, with matt as company....and target!  Each time i improved by a second the bugger went quicker still  :(

1:47.3 PB in the Jag  :) but not sure i can squeeze any more out of it  :-\  Tough track this, punishes you easily if you push hard, but more in lost time than real car damage as the cars run wide into the dunes.

I think maybe the Z06 and Elan need handicapping in someway?..maybe a year restriction ie no newer than '63 or whatever. Dont know what you guys think and just an idea, but i dont know why we allow a model with a couple of newer years than the competition as its always going to be quicker in the evolutionary way. Wouldnt the racing be closer if cars are from the same vintage as close as poss? Am pretty sure the z06 (1962's) would be more on an even keel with the E-type (1963), and with Elans, perhaps making people use the '64 year car. Otherwise you have two quick cars with 2years racing evolution advantage (ie both 1965). Just a thought, and not checked the 'stangs dates either. The elan appears to be the best car here from the times ive seen, perhaps maybe by 2seconds?

::) ....and therein lies the problem  :hammer:  some of you guys will always instantly go for the car with the clear advantage. Dont you want to race others and try to win in equal machinery? I do, to me its all about the racing, if i win, even better, but as long as i have good battles getting there.
No-one else has commented on the year vintage of the cars as a fair way of equalising the field spread, so guess i am just blowing smoke as usual  :surrender:

Take your fast car and be damned!  ;D

The vette is the most fun for me, the Elan is 3+ secs faster in my hands and fun too
Tough call. If I think I can place well in the vette and have some good racing I will take that.
Otherwise I will take the Elan. MJ is already nearly two secs faster in the Jag than I am in the vette
and I think the Jag is the slowest, so others will leave me for dead if I use the Vette
Perhaps if you take something faster, then I can use the Elan which I also like here.

I'll be in a Corvette just so I can harrass the Elans down the straight. In hind sight, I probably should have not allowed the Willement Elan.

In hind sight, I probably should have not allowed the Willement Elan.

Then drop it from the selection Mike  :) it will not alter anyones practise or setup as its esssentially the same car just quicker!

I have seen elans and vettes do 1:45's around here but closest i can get in the Jag is a 47 and i havent seen any AI cars get quicker than that either.

Its a good track this, but i wonder how hard it will be to 'race' in some of those corners without running or getting nudged wide. Those Can-Am boys must have had balls of steel  :o

Oh, I thought the Willment WAS banned, quick ban it, ban it , no one will notice  ;)
I was using the Total one as I thought the red one was not allowed.

Phil is more comfy with the Elan it seems, so I will probably be using that. If people want to use a slower car
that's their choice. I think inthe right hands the Vette is potentially the fastest over a lap, I'm just not
that good at it. I'd rather race my pal than be a martyr.  :scooter:

I fully agree MJ. Some of the best races I've had have been at the back of the field. The problem here is the Elan is the only one I can keep on the track, that's why I'm taking it, not because it's the fastest. Honest.

Yep

I have been using the Daimler for some races in Tony's GTL series, because I liked it, even though
it was never the fastest car, and the tyre wear is double all the other cars. Sometimes I will drive
whatever I am best in so I can get to race more people.

Might I suggest as deputy admin type person, that we agree to not use the Red Elan to
promote the use of other cars? When Mike wakes up, perhaps he will make it official?

No problem for me too.

 ;)

Of courseI practiced with the Willment Elan the last days
without knowing that there is a different hdc - the 66 tyres
make the difference.
But as a real "amateur" driver - greenhorn - I only made 1:48,980
with the Willment.
Today changed to a 65 Elan and made 1:49,770 with a new setup.

Some seconds left to the rest of the field - as usual.

Looking forward to this evening.

It's 4:00 on race day and I still haven't seen the track.  I don't feel that I should handicap myself still further by taking a slower car.  I usually like whichever car is fastest down the straight but I haven't had the chance to do any practice so will just go for the Elan.  Always assuming that I can find a half decent setup.

I don't think it has one. The only alternative is to look at the timer at the top right. When it starts counting, it's time to go. I think we'd have a pile-up at the start depending on that.

Yes thanks Geoffers - don't know what the problem was, initially track not available, then when I got on, kicked off as cheat.

It just wasn't my night tonight, nothing went right none of the corners went right for most of the laps.  Qualifying was my best lap.  In the race spent more time in the dunes and grass than on the track.  In the end I just lost the will to drive.

Pff, hard 10 laps.

Did not have time to practise so in qualification I did my first laps on the circuit.

I didn't know Tony was on the inside in the first corner so we had a coming together.
Bill was just behind us and had no time to avoid me so that was accident number 2 .

Car was a bit wrecked and I decided to go fo a pitstop and do some repairs. Unfortunately they did not change the driver so after a few more laps the car was falling into pieces again.
Decided to quit the race. Best decision I made this evening :-\

Results and Replay Posted somewhere in the Sand

Comedy of errors for me,  went on the dust in T1 trying to give Mr Rat room ,and not slow down, didn't happen
then went sideways avoiding Clive, which let Ade through, then overcooked it trying to keep up
Was doing ok and catching, went over the brow into T1 following Tony, who lost it and came shooting accross the
grass towards my side, took evasive action, bounced off the fence and took an age to regain the track
fell off a bit pushing hard, but only lost the odd second, caught and passed FMG, caught Ade then went wide
in the valley of the lefts too busy watching where he was going rather than me.... took Mike's short cut
and received a stop and go, which allowed FMG to get his place back. Would like to say it was fun fighting
back up the field, but was 90% on my own. ah well, Grats to Miguel and Geoffers and Mike fo hustling the Stang
round at a good pace.

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/PnG/BridgeHMar2011/)

First halve was ok-ish, second halve the mind started to wander off and made stupid mistakes.

Jag was a rollercoaster ride, S-pecially the Valley of the Left Esses.

Congrats to podium, now I am going to take pills for car sickness.

I really want (but can't afford to run) an FC  :(
Have to put up with a tweeked 180SX instead..... ( ;D )

Race wasn't the greatest for me, started out in the Jag which was dead slow, so changed to the Vette as no-one was driving one with about 15 mins to go. This improved my qualifying times by about .3 of a sec despite only having 10 mins to set the car up so decided to stick with it....

Think it was the wrong decision as the tyres went off on about lap 17 dropping my times hugely - I think the Jag would have been better as my race setup had hard compound on the rears so shouldn't have worn out  :(

Ah well, the tank was good exercise at least - my arms are killing now  ;D

That was fun.  ;D

Was surprised to get pole, nearly 2s faster than I had managed in testing. Predictably Mike's Mustang blitzed the Elans at the start but I held on to second place for half a lap until I ran a bit wide at the Valley of the Lefts & let Miguel & Phil through. Took 2 or 3 laps to find a way past Phil & then caught up with Mike. Then had a fantastic battle with the Mustang, all over it through the twisty bits only for Mike to blast away on the straight. ::) Eventually saw an opportunity at the Light Bulb turn but only succeeded in pushing Mike off track  :-[

Waited for Mike to rejoin which let Phil past both of us. Battle resumed & the Elan was starting to get the upper hand as the Mustang seemed to be having more trouble getting around the turns. Got past a couple of times only to be repassed on the straight. Finally made the pass stick when Mike took to the sand exiting T2.

Started to reel in Phil but he went off between T1 & T2 before I could mount an attack. Miguel was too far ahead to think about catching up so just reeled off the remaining laps & came home 2nd despite a small 'off' at the final turn with a few laps left.

Congrats to Miguel & thanks to Mike for a good race, great handling of the tank!  :thumbup2:

Geoffers described our race together perfectly. As time wore on, the Mustang's tires got worse and worse. Geoffers made a brilliant outside pass in the light bulb to finally get by. Phil (or was it Clive) took over as the persuer. All the hair dressers looked alike with the exception of Geoffers. He was the only one with green hair.

Who was up on the cliff drivers left in the valley of the lefts? How did you get up there?

I'm happy to say I got all the runs through my shortcut out of the system in practice. Sorry to hear Matt took a run through there. At least you scored fast race lap!

Congrats to Miguel and Geoffer for quick pace and smart drives that led them to the top spots.

Wuz me.

I'm really not at home with these little cars.  I just can't drive them fast enough so 4th is a good result for me.

As Matt said, I got in his way early on and he did himself a mischief trying to avoid me.  Many thanks.

The circuit was interesting and thankfully I was mainly left on my own.  In the closing stages I did catch Mike when his tyres were shot but I didn't have enough laps to work out how to get past.  He had certainly been made aware of his vulnerability at the spoon but there was nowt wrong with the way he went down the straight.

Congratulations to Miguel, Geoffers and Mike.

THERE WILL NOW FOLLOW A TWO WEEK FORUM SILENCE IN HONOUR OF PAST SEASONS!

i had a decent event upto getting a stop and go penalty  :(

Qualied 8th behind Ades stang and a field of elans  ::) Moved up a couple of places as guys ahead had off's but then on about lap 6 or so in the valley of lefts my bouncing e-type decided to go right , steamed over the sand dunes and plopped back down on the circuit in front of the leaders  :o...thankfully without collecting anyone  :sweatdrop: but got the s&G for cutting track :taz:
Stopped very next lap for my pen and it dropped me from 6th to a lap down on the whole field  :'(  Gamely drove on and retook a couple of guys over the race length and even clawed my way back into the top 10.
Had  one other scary moment late on when about to be lapped by Mike and Phil?, car got out of shape braking for T3 and went up the sand on the right, crossed the track onto the sand on the left  :P again thankfully without collecting either of them. Phew.

finished a desultory 9th. Nice to see a mix of 4 different car types available, not so keen when only a couple, but still think if going to allow a race winner like the elan or vette then they should be curbed in car year availability just to keep the action close. There was a 10sec gap between 1st and last in qually...daft. :-X

Who was up on the cliff drivers left in the valley of the lefts? How did you get up there?

That would have been me , Mike, but it wasn't an easy ride up.
Crashed my car in the dunes and that caused my car to do a few flips in the air.
Landed on 4 wheels at the end and had a marvelous view across the circuit  ;D

I was very attempted to just stay there and watched the race from this angle but decided that some folks might be distracted if I stayed there so drove off again.
