VERY good combo Mike, this race is bound to provide some fun racing. I foresee many mistakes ( on my part anyway ) any therefore many opportunities for overtaking  :thumbup2:

I'm considering joining. I've never done a rolling start. Anything I should know? Any instructions?

"I'm considering joining. I've never done a rolling start. Anything I should know? Any instructions?"

Yes. go very slow at the start of lap 2 so I can pass  :D

I tried the normal GTA and the Works Locust before I knew what the cars were to be, and I had
almost identical times in both. I am slightly quicker in the 1300 jnr than the proper one now
Maybe just more practice is helping, but I am slower in the Tina Mann than I was in the works.
Managed a high 11 in an AI race, mostly low 12s so far.

I suggest you try it out using the AI's. The best way to secure a safe start for everybody is to keep your position untill you're absolutely sure, that the there's a green light and the go without hesitating. If you're  over-causious, and don't gain speed fast enough, you might end up creating a 'dangerous' situation, when cars catch up from behind.

Just getting from the paddock and onto the track is an adventure in itself.

Hi Syd and welcome,

Yes, I sometimes need the AI to show me how to find the track.  Especially when my pit monkey tells me to go the wrong way.

Don't think that you will have much trouble with the start, as our PnG rolling starts are a lot simpler than the GTR2 version.

First thing is to remember that it is a rolling start; and don't smash into the back of the bloke in front when the lights go green. (Yes I've done that)

We all just shuffle off in grid formation with the pole man setting the pace.

You will see that the instructions on the announcement are that the "pole sitter" starts the race by gunning it out of the last corner and the race is on!  Once he has done that you are at liberty to give it the beans

It really would help to have a bit more notice of the cars and exact track to be used.

My main chance to practice is at the weekend so when the announcement comes out late Sunday or Monday I have no chance.

Not done a lap yet.  In fact not even looked at it.

Logged on OK for second attempt but on my first out lap computer froze.  Rebooted computer and tried to join the qualifying but locked up as soon as I got in - count down clock was stopped and I couldn't do anything so had to crtl alt delete etc again.

Hope the rest of you had a successful race.  See y'all next Thursday at Aintree

After numerous ctds and graphics problems I decided I wouldn't have enough time to practice so bailed out of quali.

I don't like Pembrey tbh.....it's not even the best track in Wales and that's saying something  :D

After several attempts to get back into the game I finally ran out of time.

Looks like about eight people managed to cling hold of the server long enough to start the race.

I think that this round should be knocked on the head and forgotten about.

I noticed that the server ping was showing 244 and I checked my connection to make sure that it wasn't at my end.

Perhaps if we could know about the cars soon enough then we could have a practice server running the week before that would enable these issues to be spotted a little earlier if they are track related.

I really wanted to run tonight. Would have been my first PnG race. Didn't make it in time for the start, and in the end it seems there were problems anyway. I hope I can make my debut at long beach.

We used that version at NG last Sunday (Abarths in the wet), worked fine. Much better version in my opinion.

Race was quite good as it turned out, even with only 8 starters. Some good battles all through the race.

As Clive said, probably best to not count this one.

Was battling for the front :o to start with, but tried too hard fending off Mr Ratton & went off.
Recovered & was gaining nicely back on the pack when I did it again, off when trying too hard ::)

There was no chance of catching then & spotted Alex was just behind... so let him passed & thoroughly enjoyed harassing him to the race end. Couple of nice moves in there by both of us 8) (if you look hard enough )

Cheers Alex, highlight of the night for me. :)

p.s. if only this season had one "dropped score", like used in UKGTR2/UKiR... (i.e. your best seven results of the eight races count :whistling:)... then they're be no need to think about does the result count or not.
p.p.s. FYI Mike, I believe 8 people of the 11(?) I saw on the server originally got to race. :-\

Agreed, prob best to ignore this one - I'm all for a re-run using the 67 version though, as once I'd figured it out I really enjoyed the circuit  :)

Had some great battles with Matt, Miguel and Legzy.
Was faster than Miguel in the closing stages but he used the cunning ploy of performing some 2 wheel stunt driving to distract me just as I was ready for a pass - 1 lap later and I went wide onto the grass losing about 6 seconds on him.
Clawed back about 3 of them I think by the chequered flag  :)

Doubly pleased as it seems I've finally managed to set the Works Lotus up so it actually goes quickly!  :o

Sounds like it was a bumpy evening. Apologies for not joining you guys. Work has been very crazy for me lately. I'm working in Boston all day today. I'll finish prep work for Long Beach this weekend so there is plenty of time for testing.

Many practice are not issued: 10 laps for the day before the race, 10 laps on race day, and a few laps of practice before the race, when the computer froze and I had to reboot it. I returned and finished the qualification on good position, but the computer froze again. After reboot I could not join the race and went to forum to cry over my fate.
;D
I have found Legzy's message about be quick. Thank you! :)

Random grid meant for me the last (8th) position. But I was glad be in time for start.

Tim, [SJ]MBMAC and Matt, sorry for the bumps on the 1st lap.
[SJ]MBMAC, sorry for dive bombing on the 4th lap.

On the 12th or so lap screw in my steering wheel unscrewed, and 18 or so laps I had to push wheel to desk, so it not fall off on the next turn. I made a short video of it in that condition. You can watch it here.

(http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/40LrgYLKo2w/default.jpg) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40LrgYLKo2w)

When Tim caught me up and I make a ride on two wheels, I thought that was the end of leading in race and was surprised that Tim did not use it.

But all ended well and I pleased the race.

For those who do not like this event, I vote to use "dropped score".
Then they can drop this event. Then we all can abandon our worst results, and I like it.

The main reason I didn't take advantage was because I couldn't avoid hitting you as you came back down - although you probably didn't even know I had  ;D
This ruined my run up and I knew I was faster so chose to hang back and start again from the next corner.
Then I promply ran wide and dropped back  ::)

Can you do Wednesdays Syd?

MARA do races every Wednesday.  This week is poxy Charade70! Same shape as the GPL track but better graphics and no airships or helicopters.

All very well saying that we can "drop" this score but I'm already dropping Spa, where Kerbies punted me out of the lead on lap one!

SBRC were not permitted to enter this one.

You suffered an unfortunate racing incident at Spa. Incidents happen to all of us at "random" times unfortunately, that's part of racing Clive. That happening at Spa has no bearing (& shouldn't) on this event. Sorry mate, just IMO obviously.

Title: Re: UKPnG Season 5 Sprints - Pembrey - Apr 7
Post by: Clive Loynes on April 15, 2011, 06:35:07 PM +0100

Quite so.  Spa has nothing to do with it.

This knit-as-you-go season has been a disaster for me and to be honest it is only my loyalty to the SBRC team that keeps me turning up as UKPnG is not offering much at the minute.

If an event where we and others were barred from entry due to unknown circumstances is going to stand, then it is just another nail in the coffin.

I think that the races that Mike has put on have been imaginative, I just wish that we hadn't started the season until he was ready.

Sounds good! ;)

...it is just another nail in the coffin.
Every pleasurable event is the rose in the garden...
So what?
Don't think, do your best.
