Season 21 - GT Team Challenge

This new series will consist of ten races running fortnightly on Sundays. Teams will be made up of 3 drivers and 3 cars along the same format as the fun series eg RED, BLUE, GREEN etc. All teams will have a budget of 120 tokens to allow the purchase of 3 cars and the hiring of 3 drivers for the series. Drivers will be valued in line with their experience and recent history in the GT's (individual values will be published when we have a list of those wishing to compete). The cost of the various cars will be published before the teams are selected. Team Captains will be selected randomly and allowed to choose (and pay for from the budget) fellow team members from the pool of drivers in rotation then 3 chassis will be purchased from remaining tokens. Depending upon the numbers of those committing to a full season there may be a "GREY" team to accommodate part timers which will have 3 cars allocated at the start of the season by the moderator which must be used by the part-time drivers in that team.

All drivers must drive all 3 team cars at least 3 times. At the end of the 10 race championship any TEAM found to be in breach of this rule will have its BEST TEAM points result of the season cancelled. Each driver will drop his worst 2 results, in line with the other championships, this gets over the problem of missed races and 2 man teams looking for a sub at the last minute. There will be rolling starts for all races.

The events will be run on Intermediate damage and allow ONE Shift-R with a compulsory 10 second pit stop regardless of fault. (This means 10 seconds in your pitbox without moving). Any driver who fails to take a 10 second stop within 1 lap after a Shift-R, will be disqualified from the results. For this division the full moderation of lap one now applying across all divisions will include both the warm up lap and lap one proper.

Time: 9:00pm London UK Time (30 mins practice, race starts at 9:30pm)
Race Length: 50 minutes (last race 75 minutes endurance)

Registered as less then 75% so if there is a 'grey' team for part-timers count me in for that.

We have only 11 drivers signed, up and only 8 of those full time.   :-\

Which will not even generate 4 teams of 3 drivers, so there is plenty of room for more to sign up and enjoy some excellent door handle to door handle racing.

C'mon guys the GT's are great fun and with a team competition everyone gets to contribute to the cause.

Perhaps we should start looking for a way to clone ourselves?

Oh go on then. I held back due to not being sure I can attend every race and letting my team down  :(. Too late to worry about that now  ;D.

Sunday driving is difficult for a variety of reasons for me personally so I reluctantly decided to give this one a miss (even the 67's series on Sundays is going to be difficult for me).  :(

But, best of luck with this series and I'm sure enough latecomers will join to make this work.

Not sure how I'll manage this, as it's Monday morning for me, but I'm sure we'll manage somehow. I've polled a part time entry, so bung me on the list please. 13 drivers now, numbers are looking a bit better. C'mon guys this will be a good division to play in.

Hristo chooses a driver first, then Phil chooses a driver, Blio chooses and then Nigel. Then we go around again and we have 4 teams of 3 drivers....I hope!!! ::)

So do we have 150 or 120 tokens? In the original post it says 150 and then you say 120 in red color, so which is it?

Also, I guess I automatically subtract my cost from the 120/150 total, right? And when do we pick up chassis, after we finish picking up drivers?

Anyway, Evil is my first driver pick! SHE WILL BE PLEASED (hopefully)!  ;D

I did originally suggest 150 tokens, but that would have been too generous.  ;)

So the figure of  120   is the correct amount.

I didn't expect to be rated more than you and like Hristo. I had good results in fun races cause I didn't crash and read the rules  ;)

Looks like the 'grey' chassis spend is 70 which leaves enough to cover any combination of the four reserve drivers.
Seems there's not much for me to do - perhaps any reservists who want to attend could PM me before each event so we don't end up with more then three drivers wanting to race?

Fulvio, I don't think you are over rated.

Your 30 token rating is based upon your success in the fun races, and the fact that you are a very quick driver as well. 

With the slightly different format in the GT races for season 21, someone with your ability to get their car to the finish and in a probably scoring good points as well makes you a valuable driver for any team.

Each driver in a team will have to drive all 3 cars and "experience" in finishing races will be very important. 

I guess drivers token cost is not base just on raw speed, but on overall performance - consistency, reliability, speed. On the other hand, cars seem to be based completely on speed only, mostly engine power in fact.

    Team captain, MOI? Whats going on  :) Its a bit more responsibility than I envisioned in my early GT career but I'm willing to give it a go.
    I give prior notice though that the Orange team will not be an autocracy, and I will anxiously await advice from the team members that I pick- but who though?
    Paul [BadBlood] is my first choice. An easy choice because I can measure myself against someone of similar ability  :P.
    And I would like to invite Tim [FMG] into the fast chair. I'm not sure what your experience is in these beasts, but you do have some speed in your belly that we may well need.
    If you two are happy to be part of the Orange threat then welcome- and please PM me with whatever thoughts you have.

You can only choose one driver right now and only when it's your turn to choose, so be patient. :)

So, Mr Thornton is neglecting his captain's duties by taking a holiday ................... ::) how inconvenient!!! lol ,maybe we should draw a replacement captain just to allow the team selection to continue? or we wait until Phil returns?

If I am underrated Fulvio, it is because I am too modest to give myself a top rank in GT's. Seriously, my performance in the recent fun series was NOT good.
I managed one or two good races, but I still have not had the time to properly understand the GT cars and how to drive them. The Porsche is OK because it is an absolutely fantastic car and anyone can drive that well!! but I really struggle to keep the other cars under control at racing speed.

The Captains were picked scientifically by putting all the names into a dish on small pieces of paper and drawing 4 names out.. and your name was one of those Nigel. I hate to throw cold water on your enthusiastic naming of team members, but you are only allowed to select one at a time from the list of those registered. ;)  Team members are picked in rotation as per the order in the post above.

I agree it is outrageous - first he retires from his modding duties and now he thinks he is allowed to take a holiday :nono:
He's back on Sunday 24 April - I'd suggest you go for a temporary stand-in to keep the selection going, I'm sure he'll live with that ;)

We could just put him as the one to pick last in the first round of picks, then wait for him to come back. At least we'll save some time that way. Hope he doesn't mind of course!

As the observant amongst you will have noticed, I have been trying to add links to all of the circuits in the GT Championship so that everyone can be sure they have the correct tracks.

Unfortunately, it seems that the link from the Track Database website for Effex is not working ( at least it isn't working for me!!).

 If this continues to be a problem and the link is not restored before the season opener at St Jovite,  I will select a replacement track for Effex.

you do know that srmz is having maintenance atm so it and it's sister sites are effected and other things it hosts (even the old vroc racelist) .

i guess the track could be hosted for awhile on the clark/hill ukgpl forum btw (ask vos)

Yes I did hear that SRMZ were doing maintenance thanks John.

I am just aware that Effex is the 2nd race in the series and if some individuals have not had reason to have downloaded it before, they might be at a disadvantage. I trust that within the next week SRMZ will be back and there will be no prob............. ::)

Just registered, apologies it's a bit late but couldn't decide which series to enter.  Would like to do Historic too, but just don't think I'll find time for two championships, so will give this one a go for a change as it looks a bit different.

As Nigel had already posted his preferences for his team I have entered  FMG's name for his 1st choice driver so that the team selections can proceed.

Vosblod is captain of the part time GREY team and will have the honour of herding those un-assigned part timers that turn up on the night into his cars.

REMEMBER THAT EACH DRIVER IN THE TEAM MUST DRIVE EACH CAR AT LEAST 3 TIMES DURING THE 10 RACES.

UPDATE FROM TEAM GREEN....

After some internal discussions we have decided to abandon our plans to run the Porsche 910 and replace it with the Mirage instead.... ( basically I`m a fool for not spending all of our tokens apparantly :D )

So Team green is now Chap 2F/Mirage/Ferrari

Looking forward to this very much, going to have to miss 2nd race unfortunately, but hopefully that will be the only one.   Any team orders?  I can hear it now- 'Tim is faster than you, repeat, Tim is faster than you..'  Don't worry Nigel, I will put the interests of the team first  :)

Absolutely no problem with that Axel. provided that you have enough tokens you can have any cars you like.

LOL - I'm in a team with H and Evil - I am expecting to hear - 'We are passing you again - take to the grass'

After much discussion, the blue team's choice of chariots are the Chap 2F, Lola and Mirage. Here's hoping the engines on the cars won't self-combust on a regular basis  ;D.

So we are waiting for Nigel's Orange team to reveal their choice of 3 chassis for this series.

I suspect some last minute gamesmanship here and maybe a surprise ?? ;)
