As you know I've had loads of connection strife since January this year, which is still ongoing. As I don't see Virgin Media fixing it in the immediate future, I've ordered a Be ADSL connection on a shortish term contract which should go live before this race, so I'm hoping to make it. The reason that isn't a permanent solution is because I live 2.1 miles from my ADSL exchange, so the most I can get is around ~6MBit - bit of a step down from the 50MBit I get with VM; it's just that the pings have gone to pot this year and it's not a simple fix.

I'll be going for a full refund on 6 months worth of VM bills, so that ought to cover the cost. It's been bloody crap not being able to race with any peace of mind for that long. :(

Hi fellas, I've not been around for a while due to a fairly problematic house move :( followed by a non-problematic holiday :)

Anyway, we're mostly sorted now, I'll be back for this one  8)

Guys - there will be a practice server up on Saturday night as usual, but this time it's not just going to be open practice ... there will be a 10 minute qually and 20 min race to finish up.

Hopefully this will see a few more show up in preparation for the race on Sunday.

Q - 2030
R - 2045 (20min)

Don't worry - if this one doesn't get a semi-decent turnout then there won't be saturday practice servers going forward.

Jamie, I have been going through the same nightmare with Virgin Media. 10mb connection but whenever I am on iRacing I keep blinking all the time, recently went to phase 2 where my car bounces aswell and sort of flies lol.

I do download regularly but also work around it, so during weekdays I download my TV series most of the time while weekends is dedicated to just gaming where the cap doesnt and shouldnt kick in.

After speaking to Virgin Media they said it was due to my downloads but all along I figured this was the case. I'll be calling them soon and they better not act like a virgin this time.

As for the race, I will be on the grid, however if my blinking and bouncing kicks in I'll be sitting in the garage. Last thing I want to do for my first official UKiR race is to be blinking during the race.

Assumed correct m8. Have never used Wifi connection for gaming even on Xbox360. Still believe the ethernet is the best way of connection.

thanks for the help this evening Jamie in the practice session  it helped me get my head into the track a bit and hopefully come race time i can do more than 3 laps on the trot  :-\ ::)

Adbul (Nice to see another oldschool RDer here btw), the jitter value ought to be a single digit; my VM connection used to have pingtest results like my Be ones above. I'm so glad I took the plunge to get a backup ADSL line put in - really looking forward to racing 'proper' again after so long!

Virgin Media 10Mb cable service in Harlow, Essex...

More worryingly the download speed is not what it used to be, although that might just be that server as I can normally get 800kbps when downloading something from a good server.

Having not raced much over the last 4-6 weeks I wasn't really expecting much but that ended up a classic!

It was a great race against Mike for pretty much the entire race with me stuck to his ample behind except for a brief lap or so when he ran wide and I nipped through only to get caught out by a DP and fall behind again! :D

Eventually I binned it with 2 to go trying too hard ::) but kept hold of 3rd despite getting a meatball (my first!).

Great racing by all, DP's were great as usual :)

I was surprised to get pole and started the race well...  While David and Jamie were fighting I pulled a 3 second lead.  Unfortunately this lead disappeared in one lap when I caught up with a group of Mustangs in the worst possible place; going from 1st to 3rd in 50 yards. :(

Soon afterwards David made a mistake and reset, leaving Jamie and myself to fight it out for the lead...  Unfortunately my luck with meeting Mustangs in wrong places continued, allowing Jamie to slowly pull out an 8 seconds lead by halfway.

I pitted but was soon confronted with another problem...  The Pace Car!!!  What the hell were iRacing thinking parking that thing right on the edge of the pole sitters pit box?  ???  I was left with no choice but to drive through it, picking up damage and a meatball flag in the process.  >:(

I limped round to the pits again. This time crawling up to my pit bay, trying to leave as much room as possible.  I got repaired, another set of tyres and a full tank of full.  ::)

Leaving the pits Dave had a 24 second lead over me.  I set about chasing him down and soon I was only 15 seconds behind.  Then with help from an error from Dave, the gap became 4 seconds.  A few laps later it was 2.5 seconds, but unfortunately I dropped a wheel slightly on the dirt exiting Dingle Dell Corner and around she went...  I guess that's what I get for pushing too hard.  :-[

At this point I decided to coast home and take 3rd.

Congrats to Jamie on your win.  Impressive driving, it was a fully deserved victory...   Well done Dave for 2nd and thanks for making the second half interesting.  ;)  Also Congrats to Simon for winning in the Mustang class..

See you next round...

That was a much better result than expected. Had no confidence during practice but eventually at least settled into a reasonable rhythm.

Fourth on the grid ahead of Gizmoto was actually better than I expected. Watched the front three pull away and just settled into a safe pace, trying not to take big risks in the traffic on the nastier corners. Jove had some sort of drama that effectively removed him from contention and then Ian had his disco which disappointingly ended what I thought would be my only real fight of the race.

Made my stop with no dramas; fuel prediction looked spot on and resumed in third thinking I would just stroke it to the end... but that all changed when Darren had to make a second stop (that pace car parking spot clearly needs reporting as a bug!) and suddenly I was having to go hell for leather to try and make the circa 20 second gap I now had in second over him last the rest of the race - a tall order given that he'd pulled out some 30 seconds on me in the first half of the race!

I started taking much bigger risks out the back of the circuit, and being more aggressive when passing the Mustangs - but it all went horribly wrong when I found myself catching Mike Miller in Dingle Dell, and making a snap decision to try and pass in Sheene. Big mistake - I didn't dare brake as hard as I wanted or I'd have collected Mike, so I ended up running wide and spinning into the gravel. :-[ That completely wiped out the gap, and with Darren now just two seconds back I thought it was curtains for my second place.

So imagine my surprise and delight to find that he'd lost it in exactly the same spot a lap or two later and given me a gap I could actually manage to the end of the race. ;D

Well done to Jamie on what looked like a flawless win, and to Shark for his victory in the Mustang class.

p.s. This is what laughably passes for a broadband connection round here:

The only thing I can say for it is that at least I don't have any packet loss!

what a disaster that was .........lap 22 sodding iRacing crashed, this is about the 5th time this week  ??? had to log off and on PC to clear the darn thing rejoined set off knowing I was a number of laps down by now to decided to just run the rest of the race to try and get more used to the car  then on lap 55 had to stop  as I had sodding cramp in both feet, I had managed to get it back to the pits but had to hop out my seat and do the anti cramp dance round the room to try and clear it  left foot cleared right off, right foot was still cramped when I got back on the track and was extremely painful the rest of the race  >:(

I suppose it wasn't all that much a disaster at least I managed to finish the race all be it 3 laps down  :-\

well done the podium in the DP and the Mustang

have to say well done to the Mustang drivers  where possible all made room for me to pass where not I hope I didn't frighten ya to much braking hard so as not to touch when I decided it best to allow ya to get round the corner first ;)

cu next time hopefully guys ::) ::)

Pretty useless on my part.  Never really got comfortable in the car, and was struggling from the start.  A lack of practice time, and a shoddy setup didn't help, but the biggest issue was fatigue and a blister on my hand which made driving really uncomfortable.

On the first lap I ran wide and that set the scene really - I was off the pace, and horribly inconsistent.

Raimo gave me some company for a while which was fun - the highlight being a cheeky pass into the hairpin when Darren lapped us :D.  Sadly I was all over the shop and managed to bin it on a codding straight!?!?!!?

Enough was enough.

Well done to the finishers, some really good racing to be had in the Stang.

See you at the next one.

A disappointing end for me, I was surprised to be reasonably close to the guys ahead but I think my setup flattered a me as it went off fairly quickly in the race. Made it to half way without any major dramas but then ran wide in T1 on the start of my first flying lap on the new tyres. Rookie mistake, I guess they were still pretty cold and of course I had more fuel on again. Side swiped the tyre wall and this resulted in me holding the wheel 45 degrees to the left to drive straight :( Made another pitstop to see if it was repairable. Repairs took almost 40s but sadly only 2/3rds fixed the problem with me still requiring 10° of lock to drive straight. Cornering was a bit erratic as a result so I parked up to save taking anyone out.

It was great to be back racing again!

I had managed a 1:20.2 in practice on Saturday but struggled to repeat it on Sunday, so I ended up behind Darren and David on the grid - and there I remained for the first few laps of the race. As soon as we started lapping the mustangs for the first time though, Darren fell back, and in the ensuing kerfuffle he dropped two places to third. Later in the lap, David half-binned it at Sheene giving me the opportunity to sneak into the lead.

From there it was a case of keeping my head down and scything through the mustangs; I had noticed early on that Darren was really struggling to get past them efficiently, and with David completing the job he'd started and taking himself out of contention, I was able to keep a comfortable gap. Well; I say comfortable, I was still having to drive the wheels off the thing to maintain it!

Darren later had his pit lane faux-pas, so I just focused on keeping it on the island for the rest of the race to take my first SRouk victory.

It was a real shame to have such a small turnout and then for my two main rivals to hit trouble though, as if that race had continued as it had done up to lap 6 then it would've been a real corker.

Huge thanks to the mustangs once again as they provided a masterclass to those that race them in the official series, and of course congrats to Simon for his class win.

See you next time!

I had noticed early on that Darren was really struggling to get past them efficiently.

Guilty as charged!  I know I could be far more aggressive, but I don't like taking risks with other peoples races just to gain a few tenths.  This ultimately costs me in mixed class races, but at least I can go to bed with a clean conscience.

Perhaps the Stefan Mucke aggressive race driving course would help Darren, might come in useful for the Silverstone round. Advertised on youtube I belive.

Will done Jamie well deserved win.

I just couldn't get a balance I was happy with after about 7 laps it began to handle like a pile of crap and didn't want to ride the bumps as it did, I over corrected going through the back section and stuffed it in the wall  :-[ I got the car repaired and was 1 lap down and began the case again, same thing happened.

I seem to be going through a bad patch at the moment
