Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules (https://www.simracing.org.uk/index.php?pid=7) especially the rules about in-game chat messages.
(3) You will need to install Power and Glory v2 from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/), 2.1 patch from here (http://www.gtlw.co.uk/) and enable terrain patch.
(4) P&G has no 'Pit Speed Limiter' function. You may go as fast as you like in the pits, but please exercise caution. Penalties will be handed out for causing contact in the pit lane. Use your best judgement when making your pitstop during the race.

Just a note on this race. We were going to run a race for the 1100 Alpine over at NoGrip a few weeks ago, but I was informed that some people have had problems getting it to work online, so we didn't go ahead with it. I haven't actually tried it myself so cannot confirm if there is a problem with it, but it might be an idea to give it a test run beforehand.

I've raced at Cadwell so many times in GTL. Really looking forward to seeing how the P&G version stacks up.

Good car choices too  :)

Dunno if it's the correct version for the race, but I don't think there is but one layout for Caddwell.

At NoGrip you can DL : http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=3117

What's the revision ref. for that one Stig? Pilsbierbude have a Ver 2.1 available http://www.pilsbierbude.de/component/option,com_remository/func,fileinfo/id,574. I notice what looks like an update also http://www.pilsbierbude.de/component/option,com_remository/func,fileinfo/id,2221

Since I had distributed a TT lap to the SBRC faithful on the wrong track before the correct one was identified for Interlagos, I wouldn't mind a bit of clarification here!   ::)

Just checked and the nogrip version is Ver. 2.1 and there are comments about a "sparkly" track. This I think is fixed in the Pilsbierbude version (according to the notes) but that's still shown as the same ver. 2.1 as nogrip  ???

Nogrip also has a track update here http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=2399

I've done a quick test. The Pilsbierbude version 2.1 doesn't have a sparkly track. it is limited to 19 grid slots. The Pilsbierbude update seems to increase the grid capacity to 32.

Also, on Nogrip, the Add on is dated 21 1 07, whereas the V2.1 is dated 21 3 07. So Pilsbierbude version looks better?

I've taken the liberty of uploading the Pilsbierbude version to Gamefront http://www.gamefront.com/files/20563954/Cadwell_Park_v2_1_by_MotorFX_and_Philrob_for_GTR2_zip

along with the upgrade to provide bigger than 19 car grids http://www.gamefront.com/files/20563959/Cadwell_Park_PPB_v1_0_7z

I've also put them on the server and started P&G.

Reason? I need to find out if I'm still being booted as a possible cheat  :(

Mike and/or Matt still need to confirm if this is the right track download.

Thanks for the work Tony. I have done a couple of laps in one of the Alpine/Mini/Fiat cars
with the track that Tony has uploaded, and I get no sparklies and was able to join without being
booted at all.

Looks ok to me, but Mike has the final say.

Many thanks for addressing this for me Tony. I originally tested with version 2.1 at no-grip. My performance is the same with this track. I did notice both files must be downloaded and extracted for it to work properly. I adjusted my race announcement to use the files from GameFront. I too was able to connect to the server as well as run offline.

Being 56 years old, I have to admit, that however 'beyond my reach' it seems, taking the GT3 for a spin  ;D is more likely to happen, than taking the young woman driving it for a spin  :'(

Cadwell is great fun to drive in a game, I would love to try it IRL :- ))

I like the car options for this race as well, they are all fun to drive.

What laptimes are you guys doing here ?

/quote]     Now I'm getting really curious! I've done a 1.41.500 lap in the Alpina. If I'm not mistaking, Ade is usually the king of the mini ....... how fast are you going Ade? My guess is, that the Abarth will be the fastest car here. Will that the choice of Manteos?

I'm pretty sure, I used the 1100 cc Alpina, but I can't check it out until sunday or monday. But I do remember getting a 1.43.xx lap in the Abarth in just 3 laps with the default setup, that's why I think it will be the fastest car here.

We need to get some laptimes from the aliens  :scared:

You bet I am ...... I'll use smokescreens, misinformation and any other trick in the book make it absolutely clear, that I expect to be very slow an very incompetitive on thursday.

Furthermore I haven't got a clue as to which car I'm gonna use.

And most important of all .... I'm not going to warn anybody about the starting lights beeing a bit unusual on this track.

It's sure that I will drive the Abarth for this one. Cadwell is a fantastic track with these cars, but my choice is almost forced here...

I always hated the Alpine and the Mini... so... :)

Hope really to have the chance to join this one...

Edit: Just tried 10/15 laps with race fuel offline, and my best was a 1.39.8. I bet that online it would be difficult to repeat this time for me... However I expect to be in a mid-high 40 race pace, but I still have to try online.

I drive exclusively french cars since 1984!

And I personally like these little beasts like Alpine or Abarth equal they are german, french, italian, or british.
American monsters are more problematic.

But how do you guys reach times around 1:40 in the Abarth???

Today improved from 1:48 to 1:45 but I feel like I drive on the
absolute limit.

Are there any setups out there?

I guess it's a common issue with the Abarth John. It's the same for me especially with the rear left tyre. The only thing I do is give them some "rest" without forcing so much especially in the long right corner of the first sector when they're are a bit overheated... that's all.

These are a couple of setups I used in an old race here with the Abarth... they're pretty similar. Give them a try and choose the one in which you feel more comfortable:

Gear ratio is really important in this track, and you have to do every corner with the right gear to avoid to lose speed especially in the uphill of the first sector after the long right corner. I make it in 5th gear, but you have to do a proper line to keep the 5th gear during all the corner or there will be a sensible speed difference.

Cu :)

Very well put Manteos !

I believe it's even more needed to keep the right line and your momentum on the uphill parts, if you're driving the Alpina, since it has more weight per BHP than the other two cars. You will be sincerly punished, if you loose it in the 'corked' uphill chikane. Driving the optimal race line is not enough; you also have to use the right amount of throtle. I prefer the alpine, because it is so well balanced ( almost like an Alfa Romeo ) and the tyrewear doesn't seem to be an issue.

................... it also has the best looking cockpit in P&G  ;D

Only just managed some laps late this eve.

1:44 in both the alpine and the abarths for me. Only about 10-15mins in each so should knock a sec off those times hopefully.
Momentum is key here in these underpowered cars.

This may sound crazy, but it worked for me, when I had the same problem.

I started a P&G game of min own by using 'Dedicated server' selecting the same track and car choise. I then started my regular P&G and jopined that game with no problems.

Having made this maneuver, I then tried to join the UKPnG server,  and voila...... I got in !

I haven't got the faintest idea why it helped, nor do I know, if the two things are connected or not. Maybe you recognize that strange felleing of not knowing why your PC suddenly works, just because you turned it of and then on again ???

I sure hope you can make tonight.

Still no luck, can make my own server, can race offline on same car/track

Are using all the cars that are standard with the mod/game, no other tracks of car packs or skins to download?

Yes all standard cars.
Are there any other PnG servers you could try joining to test?

Dammit. Sorry Tony. Rookie error, I should have just stamped on the brakes, not swung back on the track.
Hope it didn't ruin your race.

Sounds like it's down to Stig and Syd to uphold SBRC honour!

After a week of purgatory in the gutless wonders I get a decent start to the race and a screen freeze on lap 2!

that was a great little event, Cadwell is perfect for these old timers  8)  Would have preferred a bit more guts in the cars but still great fun and good close racing and chasing  :thumbup1:

Seemed to keep rising to 6th place, then drop 1 or 2 to 8th then back up again all through the race.  Great battles/chases for long spells with Fulvio and Matt  8) Legzy popped up a couple of times but then binned it  ;D

Great pace up front  :o  i was doing regular 1:43's in the race but couldnt make any ground on the top 5 at all.

Nice to see a good turnout too...20 cars  :)

Congrats to Ade for a great win and the rest of the podium.

Unlucky Clive. I had a brief "I can save it" moment after making the slightest of mistakes going over the crest & down the hill. I really should learn to ignore those - spun and collected Tony on the way back. Gutted.

Great pace by the way, Ade :thumbup1: Much faster than I could manage in the Mini earlier.

That was a lot of fun  :) A great track/car combination this as it relied on keeping up momentum through some tricky corner combinations. One small error from the driver in front and it was just a case of cruising past and giving them a little wave as you went by

I fell off early on but had some fun chasing back, until I fell off again and again  ::)  Heartening to see such a good turnout  8)

Congrats to Ade for very impressive win in the Mini and thanks all for an enjoyable night's racing.

Yes it's "bimbo nos". Thx Legzy :)

Grats to ade for his pace with mini :)
About my race, no comment... After I cought Clive freezed at the long right corner of first sector, I started to push to close the gap by the guys in front, but after some good laps in row, I tapped Marco and I had to wait him... Other 8-9 seconds lost...
Then I was pushing again, but after a couple of laps I spun at the fast chicane of the third sector... other 25 seconds lost...
Another "dark" race for me... Cu for the next and grats again to ade and Massimo :)

Apologies to Tony for that nudge off onto the grass.  Felt my car was quicker at that stage, having been unsuccessful at turn one and lost momentum I made an effort to pass you before that down hill dip.  Nudged you off but thought you'd  regained control again before that left hander at the bottom, hope your exit left after that was not caused by my actions. Once again sorry Tony.

Thanks Mark/Mike for the track car combination - brilliant.  Had a few weeks, before Monday night was GTL night, with Gamers Crib with a selection of lower powered cars on standard tracks for 6 lap races.  It was good fun with close racing but not well attended unlike here, biggest field we've had for ages.  I think this version of the Mini is the best of the various Sim Formats I've driven.

I think that's the best I've ever achieved here - driven GTL, mostly DNFs, got behind the Armco at the start of the Start Finish Straight a couple of times.  Practice went very well new PB, nearly 3 secs faster, qualification was only a few tenths slower.  Made poor start, car in front slow away.  There was action virtually for all my 22 laps.  Managed to avoid most of the incidents without losing to much momentum and gained quiet a few places before I braked and turned in too late for the left hander, at the bottom of the dip, spinning onto the grass.  Down to last I think before I got back up to speed.  After that gradually move up field with drivers dropping out.  Had a few incidents trying to allow other drivers take the racing line and accidentally running onto the grass.

A very absorbing and entertaining nights driving.  Once again apologies to Tony.

Don't take this the wrong way Clive, but I'm going to have to completely disagree with you.

I'm only going to be taking part in two of the P&G races this season (this race and Okayama), because every other race is either using a yanktank or something similar that takes loads of practice to be able to control in a race.

I'd rather be in a car that's not pushing the edge of my ability to keep on the track. I'd rather have a car I can control fairly easily as that allows me to actually race. The closest racing I've had in a long time was this race, because people were able to concentrate on the other cars and how to overtake/defend against them rather than having to fight the car.

I like driving the Chevys/Mustangs/Cobras when I'm just driving, but they're too much trouble for me to be able to race with them. I doubt I'm the only person who feels this way either, since there were nearly twice as many people in this race as there were in any of the others this season.

LOL

Well as they say, "There's nowt so queer as folk!"

The thing is that faced with two weeks of buzzing around and around all on my tod in these heaps it's a wonder that I didn't slit my wrists!

I suppose I was only saved by the obligatory doubt over which track we were actually using and thus I couldn't start too early.

I see the point about the "racing".  The problem is that unlike the venerable GPL, where you can almost guarantee that you can bob on to VROC or iGOR and find a server with real people on it, the only chance to race people in this league is once every two weeks.  I need the challenge of keeping the beast on the track to liven things up a bit.  Thank goodness for MARA!!!!

When we did the 911 at Interlagos I had a TT lap from John that kept me entertained for a couple of weeks with not trouble.

Anyway, I know that I'm not going to convince you so I shall give in.  But if you base the next series entirely on these things then I guess that I will have to find somewhere else to race.

Whilst I think of it, many thanks to Manteos for the second of the Arbarth setups that he posted and thanks also to John for aiming me at it.  It made race day almost bearable!

I'm definitely not suggesting that next season should be based entirely on them, even I'd get bored of that. I would like to see a more even balance in terms of car classes, however, or at least a more controllable/agile alternative to the chevys/mustangs/cobras other than the Ferrari. I'm honestly surprised that things like the Healey, TR4, Elan etc. aren't being used since IIRC the Elan at least can get a similar race time due to the lower tyre wear?

I also agree with the having-to-wait-two-weeks-until-the-next-race issues. It's been annoying me with GTL, and since GTL's now effectively running 4 different series it does bring the question of why we aren't just running GTL and P&G every week. ??? Perhaps for next season?

I think that Matt originally had the TR4 and Healey down for this one but Mike substituted the little'uns.

These little cars were well matched.  All diabolical.

One thing that I am dead against is a mixture of power cars and agile ones.  We are just not good enough at it to avoid hitting each other!

The other thing that I just can't get my head around is how Ade went so fast in the Mini!

As someone suggested earlier, you should try to connect to another/any PnG server that you can spot over the next two weeks to see if the problem is generic or just Cadwell.

Post by: phspok on July 30, 2011, 08:16:06 PM +0100
Mike and I tried lots of cars at lots of tracks, something that takes a lot more than a couple
of weeks of testing. I had indeed fancied TR4 and Healey at Cadwell, and some other
tracks as well, but the TR4 is just too nimble for the Squeely so Mike went for these
cars, which IMHO was an excellent choice that ran sufficiently close that there was
no obvious single make, you took what you felt good with. I tried to get a "classic british
sports car event" at any period circuit but Healey/TR4/JAG are just not a close match so
would have been pointless. Something will turn up  ;) have no fear.

I remember running the TR4 at ST Jovite once with Alfa, and I think Tina and Arbarth
and that was a brilliant event, so it can be done, Bear in mind guys
that all opinions go towards a season, if everyone complains about roller skates
then they are less likely to be around at many events. Personally I like a mix
of fast and tight tracks with a variety of cars. We always "try" to give a relatively
easy to drive choice as long as it's not particuarly faster, as Tibs says like it or
loathe it the Elan has a good track record against apparently faster cars.

Have you ever had PnG running properly on line?

I seem to remember that you appeared on the server at Spa once.

I couldn't install PnG on the PC that I have just recently put together because the ancient CD drive wouldn't read the GTR2 or GTL discs.  So I copied my entire install from one pc to the other and then installed the no-disc fix and it works a treat.  Do you still have the old install on a machine?  I just made the PnG folder a shared folder and copied the lot across my home network.

The first time that I went to the Lobby with the new install I had to enter the On-Line Play Code and I used the same password.

w00t its working  :D

Found out I had an old PnG backed up on my external hard drive, decided to delete the current one, copy across the backed up one, run the Online patch to get in the lobby and it connected to a PnG Server at Donington :D

Not clue what the problem was though!

One bit of advice I would like though, since im running it on 3 screens @ 5760x1080, I get that suggested gear change appear right in the middle of the screen every corner!, anywhere I can switch it off!
