Drivers are reminded that the maximum number of drives in any group is five.

Time of Day Setting: 16:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk WPC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the Championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=318&theme=5)

Special Notes: Some of the cars have a "Modern Compound" tyre choice. Can I ask that all drivers do not use these tyres please.
This event is started by a flagman on the right hand side of the circuit. Recommend turning the start countdown on.

Proper track for the Prototype cars!
Beautiful layout with fast flowing curves.

Would recommend this race if you were initially put off by the handling of the faster prototype cars.

btw. stay away form the Matra with the little wing on the nose... this car has a huge oversteer in comparison to the other Matra's...

Saw BB at Salisbury City Hall years ago, think it was the "Demented" tour. Hugely entertaining and so musically accomplished. Able to ad-lib to suit the audience, very clever.

However I have found his recent live DVD's to be under par and not revisited.

Hope he's back to his old form for your gig.

Hi,

I have recently purchased a copy of GTL (the digital copy re-release) and would like to try racing it online. Is there anything required to join these races apart from installing the cars and tracks that are going to be used? I read somewhere the original lobby doesn't work anymore, so do I have to do anything to be able to connect to the server?

Welcome to GTL Hristo :).
Everything game related is in the first post. As for multiplayer lobby, you need a file called LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.txt in the root of your GTL folder, and in it you need to put this address 94.23.231.41. This race is at a track identical to GPL Silverstone.

HI, your most welcome to join us but I should warn you that the 70's prototypes can be an acquired taste. Week Mondays TMC event (same track) will provide a more comfy experience. As you have the digital version your Host file will be pointing at the Simbin official lobby. As Syd correctly stated we need you to join us in the Altbierbude lobby. So back up your LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT file then make a copy off it and using notepad enter the contents to read 94.23.231.41
Then try to join the online game. Unless another event is being run it should be found in the lobby OK.
Post here if you encounter problems, OK?
Cheers
Tony

Thanks for the tips, guys, I'll try that and see how it works out. I'm not sure which race I can enter exactly as my schedule is a a bit tight, plus I would first see how comfortable I can be with these prototype cars in order to avoid being a hazard to others. If they turn out to be too tricky to tame, I'm going to take my time in doing a decent amount of offline practice before I join a race, although TBH I don't expect that to be necessary unless they're much different than anything I've driven so far.

Question about car groups - is it a free choice? And does the server automatically prevent more than 5 drivers joining each group?

Free choice. The rule is max no of drives per group but there's less than 5 races to go so you needn't worry.  ;)

Sorry for what is probably a basic question, but how do I get enough money to buy these new cars, apart from having to drive in single player? I guess I could edit their ini files, but if there's a better way I'd rather use that. The Ferrari costs just 1 coin, but all the rest have normal prices.

UPDATE: Ah, so I had to register a username to be able to connect to the new lobby IP. Seems to work now! I also did some offline laps in the Ferrari, what an understeery car! It's rather progressive on the limit though, so I played around with setup and it seemed to improve.  :) Not sure how fast those soft tires wear off though, nor the engine's optimal temp and reliability.

BTW, where can I find the password for the official event and also the practice server (not that I see any on the racelist right now)?

Two ways to tackle this. Either go to Nogrip and download the Get all Content cheat or download the cars then install into your GTL. Then manually go to each car and using Notepad edit each cars .CAR file and set the Value=1.

Soft tyres for qually but not for race distance. Don't worry about temps or reliablility. Neither will be an issue.  ;)

Everything you need to know in this regard is contained within the race announcement (first post in this thread). You just have to look.

If it's a race night then all other sims are turned off. Hence last night it was a GTR2 event so GTL would have been stopped. It's on the lobby list now, I checked last night.

Hey Pelle, lol, I doubt I'd be on the pace right away. Besides, I'm only entering some races when I have the time, I'm not able to commit to it fully right now.

Thanks everyone else for the help.

No worries mate. Stuff happens.
Great pace you were showing btw.  Getting the hang of the monsters?  ;)
Was anticipating great battle but honestly I would not have been able to keep you behind me.
.. and wiping out an entire class in one crash is a new record for us  ;D

ps. would have continued but ended up in no man's land spinning around and around....

It was a shame that so many dropped out so early on as that left the field fairly spread out which in turn led to a pretty dull event, for me anyway. It looked like the aliens and the new boy had a good battle, not often you see Navin nursing a third place.

OK so lets put this one behing us and look forward to the TMC next Monday.

Welcome to GTL Hristo, hope we see more of you in the future.

It was tough driving this car for an hour, my left arm was beginning to hurt after half distance from the constant bumps that the FF was reacting to. Might lower the FF strength next time lol.

Qualifying was a bit unexpected, but I thought perhaps others were driving with full tanks in preparation for the race.

At the start of the race Pelle, Navin and myself had pretty much the same pace, so we kept running together and exchanged positions a couple of times. I noticed they were reluctant to push hard early on and thought that perhaps it was to save tires, so I did the same. In addition, I was not sure about the fuel, but my very long 5th helped to save some automatically on each straight. I would've ran a shorter 5th TBH but it was not available in the setup options. The next number was the one I used in qualifying and it was way too short, hitting the red line before the end of the straights.

Navin dropped out of the battle eventually and I also tried to pull away from Pelle once he made a mistake, but although that worked well for a couple of laps and I managed to pull up a 10 seconds lead, it took quite a toll on the tires and would later bite me back during the final few laps, nearly costing me the race. I had a very loose setup to combat the natural understeer of this car and while it worked great with tires in good shape, it was very tricky on worn out tires.

I had a spin near the end of the race, on the exit of the left hander before the last straight, which allowed Pelle to go into the lead with less than 10 laps to go. We had a great battle during those final laps but I managed to come in front just on time and then preserve a comfortable gap until the finish.

Looking forward to trying more races, in different cars.

There were perhaps some who wondered when I said: Now I win no more...now you know why, really nice run Hristo  :thumbup1: Grats
This shows again what I've always said, if you can run Grand Prix Legends...it's easy to run GTL. Top 3 are all old GPL drivers  8)
Race:
Really enjoyable race that was run very close & amazing priming race in top 3...unfortunately disappeared NRJ in grass & as something completely new, NRJ was taken with a lap  ;D...but finishes in the top 3 & gave fine Team points.
Yes, I saved the tires for the entire race & was hoping that maybe Hristo was surprised of tire wear, so I could beat the final laps...but the plan did not work, Hristo was too fast at the very end  ;)
