Time of Day Setting: 16:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk WPC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the Championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=318&theme=5)

Special Notes: Some of the cars have a "Modern Compound" tyre choice. Can I ask that all drivers do not use these tyres please.

Which 917's can you drive, only the L model ?

I had a look at the Chamionship standings, and it looks af if the 917 K has been allowed too.

On the server, all the 917's are available but only the L - model is present on the server.

I will probably join this one... let's see if I can get the checkered flag for the first time in a GTL race :o :o

I joined the server with all the models, and experienced the same Stig's issue with the Porsche 917 (only the L is present on the server).

Cu later :)

Tony will be along to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe only the 917L is available for this race.

not that anyone will be daft enough to take it

I'm looking doubtful for this one. As much as I like Hock99 after another tough day at work I think I prefer Bathams even more...

Huuu..... gave up on that 917 L  to hard to handle :- ))

I had another problem: when I was behind Navin and later Matt I could hardly see the track because of all the smoke ( not from their braking or hitting the grass ). Was I the only one with that probem ?

No you weren't. The Chevrons get too hot. Basically there an unfinished mod.

I just wasn't in the mood tonight so I quite out early. To much real life going on for me to concentrate on this properly.

Thanks for the good turnout tho.

First off, Tony it is good to read that your early exit was a real life deal and not another connection issue. When I saw you leave Tony I thought "Ahhh @#$!" not again. Like you Tony I wasn't really feeling it early on. Just feeling kind of down because of the tragedy at Vegas. Got sick of the 917L quick so I switched out for the Chevron. Knowing it has a fairly short range I wasn't sure on it's ability to make the 26 laps but hoped for the best. Realized early on in race that fuel might be a problem so after a few laps I started short shifting and using the 6th gear which helped a ton. Then Matt was closing on me a bit at a time. My head sure wasn't in the game because I was so intent on saving fuel I didn't even notice I was past the halfway point in the race and had a fair bit more then half a tank of fuel left ::). That was a good thing because Matt was coming and I was just about to make a 3-4 second mistake at the last chicane which allowed Matt to get right up to me :o. I went back to using full revs and started pushing as much as I could given the tricky Chevron. I got a couple of breaks when Matt had some problems as well which is just what I needed because he seemed to have the pace on me late in the race. I kind of forgot how bad the Chevron was with it's trail of smoke so sorry about that Hotkeys ;). Congrats to Matt and Syd for their respective podium spots and to the rest of the participants as well.

Thanks for the thought Navin. No I've not had a disco for 3 weeks now. I now turn off my virus software and Steam which was always running in the background. I also use another program that turns off all the unnecessary stuff that PC's have running.

Due to reasons I cannot go into here, my free time over the next three to four months is going to get messy. But I'll do my damdest to not miss any GTL events of course  ;)

Mission accomplished :)
At least this time I finished the race, and that was my 1st target.
During the first laps, I was a bit on the eggs, cause my setup was far from perfection, but I kept the gap between by the lead under 15 secs. At the 7th lap or so, my xd stopped to do its work, and I was with no time reference, so I had only to push cause I noticed that Navin was slowing his pace during the first half of the race, and I was replacing the gap even with Matt. At the lap 14 or 15th, I replaced the gap with Matt, and Navin was 5 or six second ahead, but 2 corners later, my car spun going into the sand in the Motodrome section... by that moment my race becomes a Calvary.
I had a spun every lap, and I wasn't able to avoid it in any way. Even Syd passed me at the umpteenth spin, and I followed to turn on myself til the last 3 laps of the race, in which I was able to make again a couple of laps on the 14's pace... strange things.. I had to understand the phyisics of these cars yet... but I'm on the right track!
Grats to Navin and pody!

Cu for the next :)

Unofficial LapChart (http://www.justanotherpage.nl/Srou/GTL/HocOct11/)

A bit of a race in no man's land for me.
Saw Bill ploughing on in his underpowered Chevron-Ford on this high speed circuit. Great job finishing that car!

No practice, making most of weather in garden. Tried 312s but no time to sort out reverted to Chevron Ford, only car I can master in this field. Although it runs too hot Tony it still lasts whole race with temps in red.

Pleased to finish also recorded my fastest laps near end of race.  The speed differential was mind boggling, so apologies if I baulked anybody on or near any bends/chicanes.
