Title: UKGTL Season 11 3 Make Challenge - Spa (2004-6) - Nov 7
Post by: Wiltshire Tony on June 29, 2011, 08:32:50 PM +0100
All members welcome.

Grid/server capacity: 28

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins)
Race: 20:40 (14 laps = ~40mins)

Track: Spa Francorchamps

Cars allowed: Alfa Romeo GTA, Ford Mustang, Lotus Cortina

This race will use the UKGTL Skin Pack 1.8.0.0 (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3358.msg54518#msg54518).

Time of Day Setting: 10:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal

Server: simracing.org.uk WPC
Password: see above (#post_event_password)

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.
(4) Driver lists can be found on the Championship standings page (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=319&theme=5)

Special Notes: None

I use 900° on the Logitech profiler. With P&G I set the max steer lock in my setup. Didn't change anything else for the other settings, and it looks fine :). If you have troubles with 900° rotation and max steer lock in game, try to lower it a bit to have a more direct steer (750° should be a good compromise);)

If I can I will join this race... so, see you later maybe :)

Ahh yes, that was for when we were running the F1 88 mod on GTR2 and I was in the Lotus, however in RL I drive an Alfa, just haven't got around to changing the avatar yet. Guess I should now lol

It's in your main GTL folder.

Look for this LOCAL_IP_LOBBY.TXT then edit it to read this 94.23.231.41 with notepad or similar

Sorry guys, do I need to install other files in addition to the skin pack?

I re-installed the game, and fixed the lobby.txt. Now I can connect to the lobby, but when I put theserver  password the game says that I have an "incompatible version"... Any idea?

EDIT: Forgot to put the 1.1 patch, and download is proceeding very slowly... I guess I won't be on time for race... have fun :)

EDIT 2: Too late!

Great race, couple of silly errors early on cost me, but once again some really great racing with Bill, think we're pretty evenly matched swapping positions for most of the race. Eiffel gave me a bloody good run for my money too, great race guys

After innumerous (offline-) laps over last weekend with the GTA I had to admit that I was unable to realize
laptimes below 3:09 (2:57 - really admirable laptimes, guys :thumbup1:).
I changed to the Cortina and could reach identical laptimes after only two laps so I decided to use the Cortina
for the race. With a new setup found online I could improve to 3:05.5 in qualification and was prepared for a
funrace with the "slower guys"  ;)
First part of the race indeed was a lot of fun with Phil, Tony, Bill and Jamera but after my first turnaround I lost
contact to the other guys. During the following laps I had massive problems at the end of Eau Rouge which caused
some more turnarounds and crashes so I decided just to finish the race. Above all I could only reach laptimes around
3:08 during the race which was a little bit disappointing.

Hey guys - seventh GTLDK victory in a row - great job!!!

Thank you again Tony for organizing all these events!

This was my first race with the G25 and there are still some more adjustments to make to fit my personal style of driving
- seems to be more of a "Gentlemen's driver" than a racer  :D
But above all it feels much more realistic so I have to play around with the degrees and the ffb cause my old steering wheel
had only 180° and no working ffb  ???

But there are two things which still aren't clear for me: do I have to do the adjustments in the Logitech profiler or directly in GTL
and what is the better way to join the game: via the profiler or direct??
Repeatedly I had the impression that data/adjustments were lost when entering the game directly since I installed the G25  ???

I'll keep an eye on this matter.

I set my G25 in accordance with info posted by a SimRacing driver who no longer races with us.

Use the profiler to setup your wheel lock to lock, I use 420 deg, which enables you to go lock to lock with crossed hands.  Then you can setup your clutch, brake and accelerator profiles with constant ratios with movement or a little movement at start with, then ramping up at a faster rate with increased movement.  Also I think feed back is also adjusted there as well.

When you've got that done you make what ever adjustments you want in the sim GTL, PnG etc.  This includes the angle of wheel movement you want to achieve lock to lock on your particular car.

Think that's it but stand to be corrected by anyone with more up to date knowledge or a more detailed step by step procedure.  Would suggest you use last nights lotus Corrina setup and try out the wheel profiles as I suggested.

Nice choice again Tony, from after race chat everyone enjoyed close racing and the evening.  In pre race practice set new PBs for car and class.  Disappointed with qualifying, early on had close lapping with someone else who like me was trying for a fast time but all we did was screw up each other's times - sorry about that.  Decided I needed a pee before race so had a comfort break (it's me age y'no).  Had just got to the last chicane on a flyer (over revving a lot at ends of straights) when practice finished - not that I'd have finished any higher looking at qualifying times.

It actually gave me a very busy race, first with SpecialK, Tony, Jamera and Phil for a while.  As Jamera said we had a good race swapping places when the chaser got a better line or run out of a corner or occasionally running wide.  Towards the end I tried too hard to catch Jamera and ran over kerb into the sand losing a couple of seconds or so which I couldn't make up.  On the last lap I went too deep into the last chicane to finish even further behind.  As Jamera said we seem to be evenly matched in a number of different cars and tracks.

Thank you Bill for your help!

I'm happy that in general I already did as you recommended :)
At the moment i still use 360° which is the double of my old wheel but I think I'll increase step by step to
higher degrees (others recommend up to nearly 900°)

For your information here is a G25 Steering wheel guide by Henry over at GTLDK:

Also here - step by step - I'll test all the recommendations.

Thank you again, Bill - and btw - fine race and - first of all - free practice yesterday!

WoW unbelievable  :thumbup2: Grats to NRJ there were gun quick at Spa in Alfa, I had no chance to take 4 in a row  :P Unfortunately, Ade getting good points in the championship, it will be difficult...Grats Ade  8)

...& grats KS, with your new G25...yes it's hard with all the options in the G25, I spent a very long time to get it to work...as I liked it. I've also been a little lucky, force & steering is almost the same from my old MS. Every time I gave my setup for you others, I am told there have to be modified by the 'Steering Lock' in garage from my MS, but something I have changed has meant that I can use my old setup as they are. Where I was most improved with the G25, is the accelerator. My MS had a dead center where nothing happened & it was difficult to dose out of turns without spinning around.

Practice:
After 2 race where it was fun with Mustang & Falcon, it was my intention to run the Mustang at Spa, but no setup & I was lazy & chose an Alfa.

Qual:
Ok...NRJ was just faster.

Race:
Ok...NRJ was just faster.  ;D

Glad to be able to help, if only to confirm your approach to setting up new wheel etc.

Yes I had a good night and was really flying for me - first time I've been able to take Eau Rouge (?) in top gear and stay in it through corners, occasionally took 4th coming out as I'd lost a bit of speed over kerbs and correcting line.  It's one of the places Jamera was consistently faster than me and he was able to pass me at beginning of the straight.
