had a chance to start practicing for sundays race tonight (a luxury for me at the moment...lol) did about 25 laps, started with default setup and started finetuning setup (gear ratios and camber) got down to 1:43.8. Anyone got any tips for a base setup for diff & suspension for the maclaren as i struggle to know what direction to go in

Dude, these cars feel all the same to me. :D I just take my setup from a track I was most comfy with, try it and tweak wings, springs, toe and gearing. :) Usually takes just a few laps if you start from the balanced setup. :)

I've used the same setup in the Supra for the last few races. Just changing the gear ratios.

If its any help the only changes i've made to the default are:

Steering lock 23%, lower ride height front and back, power diff 25%, softer springs/ARB at the front & harder springs/arb at the back.

No complications John, take any car you like, but the skin is visible with an official add-on if I'm correct. Race allows custom skins individualy, GTR2 doesn't. Don't know, does a missmatch appear here?

thanks for the tips NSFAST,

I have tried fiddling around with the diff settings before, and to be honest i struggle to feel much difference in handling when i set it from one extreme to the other!

But when i tried setting the front springs/ARB soft and the rear hard it really made a difference! i will definately be using these variables to setup my car in future

Gawd TT your confusing me!

Hi John. We normally do a skin pack at the beginning of a season and possibly an update mid season  as i gets messy with people not having the right skins, so your'll have to make do with the default skin for this race, as its our last of the season. You can run whatever car you want though in a season there is a penalty for changing cars, there is no registration as we dont quite push the limits of a full grid nowadays.

Hope to see you for future races.

You can take any car from the mod. :)

To add a skin you will have to wait until I organise a skin pack up date. I will post a message in the UKGTR announcements section to let everyone know when I sort it out. Hopefully that will be some time next few weeks.

P.S. Is there any official signup procedure??

No but, we have an official procedure for adding a skin which is why you will have to wait for a skin pack update I am afraid. Feel free to show up for the races with no registration needed and no restrictions on car choice from the given class.

I hope this helps. :)

I have reloaded the server with a weather file generated using the weatherGen system using real conditions.

It was set to 30% chance of light rain (as forecast at 7pm ish) and ambient temp of 19 degrees (as forecast at 1pm - 4pm).

The system made a file that had no rain in the end so if anyone wants me to generate a file that definitely has some rain then let me know. :) There is currently only a 20% chance of rain tomorrow night so it will probably be a dry race.

If anyone downloaded my June 2011 version of the waetherGen system and had an error when running it, it was because you needed a fully up to date version of Windows to run it but, I have removed that dependency in a July 2011 version, no other changes were made so no need to get July 2011 version if you have June 2011 and it works.

I have managed to get a few laps in the 42s but, I suspect some people may be going faster.

What a waste of time. Apex was warping all over the place, hit him 3 times where he suddenly appeared stationary in front of me. Saw him off the track and I moved up to 7th, then he reappears in front of me and I'm in 8th, then he disappears and when I go through the place he was I'm catapulted up and race over

It's impossible to race in this conditions apex... I guess that I was the fourth guy involved in one of your extremely frequent lags... You were appearing and disappearing every 3-4 seconds and that isn't good for the fun of the other people on track.
Luckily I didn't train so much for this race...

A good event spoilt by lag related crashes which put me into the fence and lost splitter so was dog slow up to the pits
and also pointless rain. Why do we insist on making it more "challenging" Seemed like the rain was intermittent
so took softs, then it stopped so took meds at my early stop, and it peed it down,  very dissapointing.

Started race with soft fronts & med rears, which is what I qualified with & they felt good in the early conditions, though I started making a couple of half spin errors as my car got more oversteery on corner entry due to wear/extra water. 20-25 mins in, it seemed to start raining harder & so I pitted.
What tyre though :-\
Decided to go with inters front & back & after 1.5 laps I was regretting it :o. They felt more grippy, but I was noticeably way slower than pre-pitting & they were pretty much all in the red overheating already ::) >:(
Decided to keep going with them & see what others were doing pitting/laptime wise, but then there was thunder & everyone who hadn't pitted did so. I was gutted, figuring they'd all probably put hard wets on & be on the right tyre for the conditions :'(. I took the lead at this point, with TT exiting the pits 7.5 secs behind.
But about a lap later the rain had reduced again & the inters were perfect, TT was gaining on me about 0.5 per lap, but I figured I'd have 2nd in the bag. :)

With 15 mins to go, I'd managed to maintain the gap to TT & then the rain stopped. Decide that I'll pit for my original tyres to finish the race as I can't imagine the conditions will change again... lost a few secs as I fiddled with XD setting the right tyres etc & just as I'm bracing to turn into the pits, the rain starts up again .
So obviously I stayed out & from there i started to eek open the gap back to TT, who I guess was struggling with tyres by then?

Happy to have my 1st win in a loooooooong time, but it was certainly down to luck more than judgement . Congrats to the rest of the podium & the other finishers.

Regardless of the win, I was actually losing interest in the race till the proper rain showed up (i.e. 20-25 mins in). We were down to only six cars, nobody to race & the rain just took me out of the comfort zone & forced a pitstop on me, the heavier rain gave me something to focus on & I thought that these cars handled the rain better than anything (other than PnG cars) we've ever used. :)

Fun and difficult race for me.

I stupidly decided to put more medium dry tyres when I pitted half way through as they had worked well in the first half of the race. Lazlow and spanner told me to stay out out to see what happens before pitting but, I was reluctant to change my fuel strategy and recalculate while on track. The rain of course got heavier and I had to make a 2nd stop for inters. I had a good chase with nsfast in the first half of the race who was keeping me under pressure. I was on a mission to catch Legzy and TT after my 2nd stop but, it was not to be. :(

I luckily managed to get the championship win due to nsfast having more problems than me. :)

Sorry to hear about the lag issues.

Driving in that championship was definitely fun for me, well done all and thanks for showing up. 8)

Another one taken out by Apex here on the first lap. Came out of Bridge to see a frozen Apex who should have been running behind me. Two weeks in a row i've not got to the finish :(

Sorry apex, it was decided after you effectively took out 4 or 5 of us with the massive warping then frozen car that it wasnt safe.

OK guys a PM has been sent to the driver in question regarding the lag issues. He did not do this on purpose remember, it is more of a case of not being able to let him know that his lag was so bad I believe.

Remember all, try to do your best to keep your net connections in a stable state during race events and we ask that drivers allow in game chat during races in case of any important server messages please. :)

It was interesting to dodge Apex' car on the track. :D Hope it gets sorted out for you, buddy. :)
That was a proper changing weather alright. :P Started on slick meds and when H@l and nsfast pitted I was tempted...  :D ... but the tyres didn't really cool down yet and were worn under 20. A lap or two later it started to rain more and I pitted, took hard wets and was off. At first I started to catch Legzy, then the rain stopped and the tyres started to overheat. Was looking for wet patches of the track but it didn't help much, fronts were frequently above 150'C. Had to slow down, then H@l started to catch. Fortunately the race was ending and I managed to keep my second with a few seconds gap. :) Didn't even think of inters, never use them. Seems like they were the right choice yesterday. :-\ Well, grats to H@l for the title and nsfast for 2nd. Interesting season, this mod enabled some of the best close racing in GTR2. Hear that, MJ? :-*

m'eh, jap GT cars just dont do it for me. Tried the mod, thought it seemed a bit rough round the edges and the non-jap cars uncompetitive, so nothing that grabbed me unfortunately. Was tempted a few times as you ran some great tracks in the season.

interesting race, took a lot of concentration to keep it on the blackstuff for a whole hour!
I planned to make a pitstop for new boots at half distance, but as it approached i was slipping around a lot more, i wasnt sure whether this was more to do with the rain increasing or the tyres deteriorating, in the end i decided to put hard wets on instead of another set of slicks, which luckily seems to have been the right choice.

Almost a perfect race.  :(

Qualifying was all about decoding H@l's message at the start - "conditions in qual and race will the same as practice". In the practice session the track was dry in the last six minutes and therefore that was the time to go out. I felt sorry for those who missed this and went out early when the track was damp.

I knew I needed an unlikely win to have any chance of winning the championship and was pleased to qualify P2 just behind H@L. I went for meds at the start which seemed the correct choice and was able to stay in touch with H@l in the first half of the race. In the last two laps before the half way mark I started to lose a lot of grip and tyre temperature on the meds and made a good decision to pit as usual but go onto hard wets for the 2nd half.

Then I made a terrible error. The wets seemed to heat up very qucikly and for some reason the conditions seemed to briefly improve. Convinced I'd made a mistake I went straight back into the pits to swap onto slicks again.  ::) As the tyres were being put on the sky darkened and my race was over. I went out with no grip and had to pit again to go back onto wets....ahh. To add insult I hit the pit wall for another 40sec of repairs.

I went back out to finish the race and briefly had some good laps with SRW.  :)

Congrats to Legzy on the win and H@l for the championship. Thanks for organising H@l. I've had some great races with these cars this season.  ;D

Please go easy on my teammate Apex for lag. Apex is very fair and clean racer and normally has no issues with his connection :)

I too had cable connection problems at the beginning of the year which lasted months  >:( but they are sorted now and I'm back racing  :jumpjoy:

Yes but, we do have races going on every Sunday until season 15 starts, this Sunday we have a fun race on a 1994 version Imola with GT1 cars:

We do fun races with a shorter race length than the championship races and the results for a fun race are stored short term on this web site where as the results for the championship races are stored long term.

We could be using the SuperGT500 cars again next season but, I have yet to finalise that decision. I will be starting some discussion threads soon regarding season 15. I may do a fun race with SuperGT cars before season 15 starts as well.
