Title: UKGPL Season 21 (2011) Porsche - Rouen (1955-70) - Aug 12
Post by: miner2049er on August 10, 2011, 09:53:49 PM +0100
UKGPL Season 21 Porsche Super Cup
Race 8 Rouen

Bonjour mes amis, Round 8 of the season sees the Porsches navigating the gorgeous roads around the village of Rouen Les Essarts which boasts both fast sections, a slippery chicane and blind bends.

Rouen hosted five Formula One French Grand Prix races and is featured in the original game because of the blandness of the Bugatti track. Good choice.

With a wide opening section there shouldn't be too many T1 problems but please be careful when the field is compressed at the hairpin. French polos are every bit as tough as the Mexican variety.

Please see the Porsche Super Cup registration thread for an explanation of the Team Setups:

Sorry about the Practice server - Windows had installed some updates and rebooted the PC. I didn't notice for twenty four hours. Should be OK now.

Got to go out again tonight so I can't make this race now.  Pity I'd done some praccy and got my PB down to 2:07.73; probably very slow by alien standards but quite respectable for me ::)

Hopefully Martin (Maddog) will be available to take my place.  Sorry for the late call Martin, hope you've got some praccy in.

Friday night is proving to be busy for me and I haven't been able to do as many races as I expected :(.

Will do Phil, though I've spent most of my time, grumbling about drivers, with XP refusing to cooperate with my mods.  A poor connection remains the problem, so I'll volunteer to start last again.  :(

I had a great time in server 2 - I had a couple of spins, made a couple of good overtakes one comedy overshoot when I forgot to brake at the end of the back straight whilst trying to pass Juha! Had to thread the car through the gaps in the polos, do a 3-point turn, thread back through the gap and rejoin the track! That lap was a 2:37 :D

i agree you say i make a mistake on hairpin , but hard to say i pushed your car, it looks like you was already stuck in tires.  Anyway i was wrong or right i apologize.

My race was pathetic after the 1st lap... :-[

I had a great first lap, passing Hristo and Juha (who were stuck at Nouveau Monde). Then I was chasing Arf and passed him after he made a little mistake at the start of lap 2.

After this, my race was terrible. I had a spin completely alone at the hairpin....after some seconds I was chasing Juha and touched him at the second hairpin. I'm really sorry, Juha..it was completely my fault and I ruined your race, because your car seemed to not work properly after the crash. :(

I was relegated to the back of the field and then started to have some nice battles with some drivers. When I reached Rainier, I made a mistake at the long turn before the backstraight, went off to the grass and hit a tree very hard. End of the race for me...

Rouen is definetely a unlucky track for me. I always do some terrible races there. Today it was one more to the count :P

Grats Tristan for the win, Sergio for the win on the other server and to the both podiums too. And sorry again for the tap, Juha!

Trolled around at the back running in the 2:14s - hopeless here, needed lots more practice but holidays interfered.

Was running tenth when Nicky and Ronnie crashed ahead of me... So Nicky out and Ronnie a lap up but there for the catching. 7L to go and I had pulled a mile out on him in one lap. Six to go this should be easy meat although I couldn't catch Roberto and DuFossa who were less slow than me... then I blew my engine!!! Couldn't believe it.

Ahh well. Enjoyed it anyway.

Erm a case of looking at Prib too much and the Chief Mod not knowing the rules...

Happy with qually, not up with the fast boys but a respectable 5 something. Settled down to a potential battle with my teammate Steve, was looking clean but no quarter given, then I noticed on Prib Natan was battling Martin further back. Lesson here, don't start to wonder if that might be interesting going into the hairpin or you might get hooked and stuck over the upturned tyres. Luckilly Steve and a couple of cars behind got through safely.

OK here's the bit where you can laugh, or cry if you hit me... I couldn't remember if it was Pro or not so tried a few resets. Meantime someone (or someones) did hit my impaled chassis. Very sorry, if I'd remembered would have just hit 'esc' when I realised I was harpooned. Not sure there's a rule for "Appalling Oversight Chief Mod Forgets if the Rules allow a Reset" but sure it's two penalties.

I'd just like to say a big thankyou to everyone I lapped tonight. Two of you were so keen to get out my way that I saw you crashing as I approached/in my mirrors as I moved away  ;D  I hope you recovered....

What a night for LoL2 - 1/2/4 !! (and very technically 7th too, as Roberto is our reserve, though not driving for us tonight)

Mind you, I could have so easily spoiled it, losing it 3 times at the hairpin, with not a car in sight of me each time. My lap times were poor, but I think I should be happy about that. I was alone for the whole race, and had a healthy gap to Nicky and then Juha, so no reason to push. I just left it to my mind to play games on me and make it difficult for myself!

Roll on Spa!!

I was also pressing shift-r about 10 times before I realized it was not upcoming cars prohibiting me to reset but the Pro damage setting, lol. It's difficult to keep in mind all the differences between divisions in terms of pro/int damage, number of shift-rs allowed and stop/go or 10 stop pitstop.

??? wasnt me I am sure  ;D  as I lost my car on my own due to lag/brakin circumstances .
happend at L16 , I was on 3rd that time and nobody near in any direction .

:o wonder if it was the server or my connection , or maybe those Direct 3Dv2 I`m running for the first time ...
looking at my own replay , lots of car did spin without any reason really to see clear .. well have to compare with server replay later on .

But anyroads , I was so terrible slow that an 3rd would have been extreme undeserved ,lol :D

edit well , just did check the server replay : my car starts to shake somehow at T1 in lap 16 and didnt settle down ..got even more bad to entry of T2 ..results in a right move while braking .
havnt a clue what happend ....
But looks like lots of other cars did act strange too sometimes ( and got lost of control ) ....

Too short race for me...

Had a good setup to survive.
In quali I did my PB in the tow of Tristan, wich gave me the 6th on grid.

The race had a good start, just Nicky got away faster and caught me into T1.
After lap 1 was in 6th place following in a save distance.

But then came lap 2 Hairpin where Raoni spun and made a hairy rejoin.
I was following him through the next corners where he rearended Juha into Sanson.
I had left lots of space but my other teammate just gave me a little bump and I was stuck too...
Down to 11th!

The next laps went well and on 9th lap I was again in 6th position chasen by David.
Reaching the hairpin on lap 10 there was Jason just emerging from the polos.
I have no idea how this happened, I ran a little wide and was suddenly stuck with a big tire in my cockpit :o
 End of the race........

:chef:

Glad to get this one out of the way as Rouen is not a favourite of mine in any car. At the start I slotted in behind Juha and Axel who then proceeded to battle it out with Raoni over the early laps. It had to happen and the three of them came together. I tried to avoid them but just clipped one of them (I thought it was you Axel, sorry) on the way through. But I had not escaped undamaged, my car now seemed underpowered (checking the mech report after the race, I can see that I had an engine problem. I soldiered on but had to let people by as they caught me. Just as the fast battling pair of Juha and Blito (great drive Jason by the way) came by my engine got decidedly sicker but I struggled on staying well out of the way of anybody. Not a vintage night for Porsche International but a pat on the back to my team mates Juha (your third looks safe to me on my replay) and Axel, this was a tough night. Grats to the top two Tristan and Arf and also Dave in fourth. Goodbye Rouen and don't come back in a hurry!

Hi guys,
not very much to say here at Rouen, it is one of the tracks I like much and most of all, I've taken the competition seriously and I've been training for at least a week and the result demonstrates I did the right.
Very tricky Nouveau Monde like always but at least this time I made only a little mistake on exit that corner past half the race loosing no more than 5 secs in the action. At half race to go I've thought to maintain the gap gained till that moment and so I've finished first winning the race.
Nice qualli time (at least for me), like I previously said, below 2:01.00 it should be a nice time and so it was. During Gresil I've caught a little TOW from Fulvio and that permitted me to go below 2:01.00 (anyway pribluda show me I just had 1st and 2nd sector times very good at that point so I was expecting a nice laptime but not...so nice) making my PB in Porsche.
I Wonder to discover I had not only the Best Qualify Time but also the Race Best Lap of both heats. I think there were no better things I could make at Rouen.
Thanks to all for the compliments you made to me on chat I have appreciated so much.
See you at Spa, and... watch your 6....I could be there....YahoooOooOoooO!!!

P.S.: Mexico anyway is going to be the best race I made untill now, stressing but exciting at the same time and most of all fought a lot!

I am reasonably happy with my race, Sergio was soo fast there was no way I was gonna trouble him, so 2nd was all I was really aiming at  :P.  I was slow off the line and Fulvio got past, no probs though as he is on the same team, but I managed to slip past before T2.  I was in 2 minds, mind since it was L1 and I didn't want any incidents.  Sergio was at least still in sight at this point, but as I pulled a bit of a gap on my pursuers I thought I was destined for a lonely race.  Needn't have worried though as my skill level made it inevitable that I'd have a 'moment' or 2 and at some point I stacked it into the polos at the hairpin  :o.  Fulvio and Natan then got past as I fumbled, looking for gears and waited for them to clear the track (thx for avoiding me guys).  I then pursued them only for Pedro to go off on the next bend.  I caught Fulvio after a couple of laps and was anxious not to get too close where I couldn't pass.  A few laps later I was close enough down the back straight to get safely by.  We then had a very clean and close battle before I could break the tow.  Great racing Fulvio.

I can safely say, the grass at Rouen, is not as slippery as you might think, after spending much of my time testing it.  I started last, and did my best to stay there, throughout the race.  There were one or two hiccups, where I accidentally passed recovering drivers, but inevitably returned to my rightful spot, by accident.

I was surprised by the pace, of the rear half of the field - had to work hard to keep up, and paid the price. Ended up, wedged in the side of a van, without which, I might've done better !  Hmm . . . with which, I might've done better. :-\

It behaves strange because its driver sees in his mirrors Juha's hot approach and thus goes to the left to give him room to perform his inescapable off, but the line is too wide and he hits the tires. A moment later Juha's car hits that car to further embed it into the tires beyond the point of extraction.

Only you will ever know if you hit the tyres on purpose, but in my opinion you both had seperate incidents that just ended up at the same place.

It was sarcasm, and no I did not hit the tires on purpose, but what Mike is obviously suggesting is that next time I should allow myself to be rearended so he can actually see fault in the other driver's actions... I wonder what would the verdict have been if I had braked too late and gone off like that.  ::)

Anyway, Juha, it's nothing personal against you, I know you didn't do it on purpose, but to hear Mike say no warning was necessary, especially when you nearly repeated the situation from Mexico, is a bit too much for me, lol.  :)
