UKGPL Season 21, 65 Professionals Trophy
Race 10: Zandvoort

So Spa has given us a suprise in the results with the top 2 slots taken by Cooper and BT7 - can Zandvoort also throw up a suprise result?
Note that due to the unexpected collapse of Australia this is not the final race in the season - that will be held in 2 weeks time (probably at Crystal Palace, I will confirm this closer to the time)

Reserve drivers should not join the server(s) until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.
The race will be run on PRO Damage.

NOTE: Please ensure you join the correct server, due to the way we import if you start the race on the wrong server your result will not count.

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left so as to give the FULL TIME drivers chance to join, and drivers are not to go out on track until there are 30 minutes of qualifying left as this helps all drivers join the server successfully.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

Total lack of interest........bored after 3 laps. Used to like Zandy.......rather indifferent to it now.
Could have been time better spent sleeping instead of freezing my nuts off in our marvellous Spring (?) weather.  Might be happier next season.

I had a nice evenings racing.

Found GPL Racer had a Zandy race at 7.30 so seemed like a good idea to combine that with praccy. Lot's of close racing, in fact the best for months, but the server had started late and I eventually found myself in 4th with nothing up the road or down and 16 laps left - it was 8.50 so no point bashing the bishop when I could be doing it in traffic.

So over to Pro's - a track I know, and no practice excuses, so got a not unembarrasing qually time. I say not embarrasing but I was still facing the rear end but with potential. And so it panned out, no overtakes but keeping the old pecker up with the crowd. Was following Goran who in turn was battling Tim. Anyway, I think it was Clutch, had reeled me in and had made good overlap down the straight - no complaints all legit - but I overcooked it into Tarzan and realised I didn't have the skill to stay left at that speed. So I did a Tarzan and went awol, luckilly without taking anyone else out.
After that it would have been umpteen laps until I could even make the 50% score mark and the prospect of bashing the bishop all over again with the potential of performing with Flacido Domingo put paid to that.

Still a fun nights racing if you count the racing bits.

For me no other track requires this level of concentration and at the end of it i was a wreck.

Qualified 7th, though there were about 8 of us all within about half a second of each other. Made a good start and could have climbed higher but got boxed in down to the first corner so held station. Evil made a opportunistic but totally fair move to get in front and passed me and as i lined him up for a slip stream i over did it and spun out on the start/finish straight on lap one to put me at the back, luckily without spoiling anyone else's race.

After that it was all or nothing for me. I had a very racey set-up which was high risk and even blew an engine in qualifying, but it helped me haul in those in front. I reckon it took me a further 15 laps to eventually get up to the Jonsson/Muttram fight, and when Evil (made a mistake?) there was 4 of us all fighting for a podium.

I made my second error of the race as i got past Tim and spun it, but managed to get past again after he made an error, and with maybe 3 more laps i could have got Jonnson and Clive... Problem was, they could have easily got me back.. it was that sort of race.  :)

Really enjoyed this one as starting from the back after lap 1 made it simple all out attack as opposed to driving 'steady eddy' and worrying about Championship implications.

Well done to the podium and the rest. And well done to my elder Team Mate and Full Time Mountside Test Driver NHance for out performing his BT7 in the Nov's. At Last Mountside Racing are able to churn out 2 solid Performances and Results on a Tuesday Night.  ;)

Thanks Tim.

To be quite honest I almost did not bother to start this race, but I figured it would be a good way to relax before an early crash allowed me to retire to my bed and get some serious sleep.

I spent quali fiddling with gear ratios on the race setup and was not concerned with a high grid place because I was so sure that I would not survive the race. Also, I did not want to be responsible for taking out some of the main title contenders when I fell asleep at the wheel  ::).

The start went well and I managed to sneak a pass on Clutch at T1 and set off in pursuit of the leaders but without any real conviction. Tim was soon coming through the crowd behind and I just pressed on as best I could but discovered that my tinkering with the gearing was not an overwhelming success on the main straight, but seemed to work well around the back of the circuit. ( more work required in that dept I think!!)

I slowly eased away from Tim and others threw themselves off the track until I was running in 2nd spot!!!  Now I had a problem because I had not anticipated running this high and with a chance of some good points to end the season. Now I had to concentrate!!  bu**er!!

Ronnie recovered from his excursion into the sand and slowly closed in. With every lap he took 50 mtrs out of my lead on the straight and with my gearing there was nothing I could do but defend the inside and hope to outbrake him into Tarzan. This worked for a few laps until I failed to pull enough of a gap around the curvy bits and he was firmly in my slipstream as we hit the straight allowing him to make the pass well before the braking zone.

The next 10 laps or so, I harried Ronnie hoping for a mistake but he maintained his composure and lap times. Although I was quicker around the twisty bits there is just nowhere to pass, and even the small mistakes that Ronnie made did not give me enough of an opening to get through. On the straights my gearing did not allow me to attack his faster car even with slipstream.
Around this time I started getting some frame stutter and almost rear ended Ronnie, so I backed off a little to leave some room for error and I was glad that I did because it happened several times and I thought on at least one of those that I was going to screen freeze!!

Time was quite a way back and I looked good for 3rd place at least and possibly 2nd if I could find a way around Ronnie. But as the race progressed lack of sleep and fatigue began to have an effect and small errors started creeping in until I got too heavy with the gas at Tarzan and managed a spin. Ronnie was gone!! but Tim was now only a few metres behind :-\
The last few laps were a great battle with Tim as I defended against his BT7 and his late braking into Tarzan. I think we went side by side through Tarzan and the next left / right kink on one lap  ;D. I seemed to have the edge around the twisty bits but Tim had the advantage of my slipstream and better gearing on the straight. He made the pass in the same way as Ronnie did as we started the last lap and unless I could get a really good slipstream on the straight I has lost 3rd place as well!!

Which was how it ended. Just pipped for a podium and suffering from sleep deprivation, but a great race and good fun.

Grats to Hristo for the win and to Ronnie and Tim for the podium.

Vos has suggested that we take next Tuesdays slot to have the re-run of Amaroo (I've settled on Cystal Palace for this as apparently it's known to be stable, I found another track I'd have prefered but it's unknown :()
Can I have some feedback on wether that will be OK with you lot?  :)

Why not? Been ages since I've had a gallop round the Palace.

Good result for me at Zandvoort. Shame Raioni and Juha did not hang around at the front but Clive kept me very honest and on my toes for the majority of the race. Grats to H on the win and Tim on the vital third spot.
