Season 22 - GT Team Challenge

Now that we have some experience with the GT mod, we have made some to the rules now that we have some better data on the cars and drivers. In a departure from previous seasons we have replaced the token system with one that handicaps the cars on a per race basis through timed pitstops

This new series will consist of ten races.

Teams
a) Teams will be made up of 3 drivers with free choice of chassis
b) Teams can be formed from the existing teams in UKGPL ( Wazas, Soggies, Clarke Hill, Antipasta etc) or by any alliances which you care to make.


Drivers
d) Drivers will be valued relative to their points score at the end of last season and their experience ( and speed ).
e) Any drivers who register for the new season, but who did not compete last season, will be assessed and assigned a token value.

Cars
f) Once the teams have been assembled they will then be able to spend the remaining tokens on 3 cars which they will use for all ten races.
g) All drivers must drive all 3 cars that the team has purchased at least 3 times during the 10 race season. If a driver competes in all 10 races he will be able to drive 1 of the cars 4 times.

Points
h) Points will be awarded as last season, so getting all 3 drivers to the finish will increase the team score.
j) At the end of the 10 race championship any TEAM which has not complied with rule "g"  will have its BEST TEAM points result of the season cancelled.
k) Each driver will drop his worst 2 results, in line with the other championships, this gets over the problem of missed races and 2 man teams looking for a sub at the last minute.
 
Racing
There will be rolling starts for all races.
The events will be run on Intermediate damage and allow ONE Shift-R with a compulsory Stop and Go pit stop regardless of fault.
Any driver who fails to take a Stop and Go within 1 lap after a Shift-R, will be disqualified from the results.
For this division the full moderation will include both the warm up lap and the red zone lap one proper.

Date: Every second Sunday from 6 November 2011
Time: no later then 9:00pm UK Time (30-60 mins practice, race starts at 9:30pm)
Race Length: 50 minutes (last race 75 minutes endurance)
Damage Model:  Intermediate
Server: UKGPL_T7_2

I think this will be a nice champ but almost impossible for me to take part during Saturdays and Sundays.

Unfortunately almost all the series I like are during days not good for me.

Some questions...

Can we make team7?

Will we have to split if there are more than 6 teams? Hope not, its highly unlikely everyone to show up...

How are drivers evaluated for price to hire? If there are all novices in a team for example, will  that allow the team to get lola/chap2f/ferrari?

Like this format.  Not desperate to be a team manager so happy to join any team that will have me as a driver but prefer to stick with Green GT with Axel and Jason if you guys are racing again in season 22.

I think we'll have to wait a bit to see who register.

Guys, I know what I'm going to say is...a strange request but, if you have other championship to race for during the week and this one (GT) only at Sunday, I was thinking...why not to swap the cheduled date of these two championship making me to participate to this GT champ ?
I explain it better, I can't race on Sat/Sun but I can during the other days of the week so, if you change the race scheduled shifting the GT during the week and the other race on Sunday all remains the same excepting...I can race with you. This is only an idea, obviously all pilots would have to agree otherwise all remains like it is now.

As a bit of history Sergio (and I'm sure Phil will correct me); we basically started off with a base night of Sundays then, when we brought in the new mods like 66/65, included Tuesdays and then Fridays became a recent add-on thanks to (no extra cost) server availability which has turned out to be pretty popular.

It's really a case of squeezing lots of events into the three nights and it is a bit of a juggling act. Much as we'd like to run the right mod/division on the ideal night for every driver it will never be possible. The best we can do is find a happy medium so most can make their chosen divisions.

If it is too much complicated to make a changement, then leave the world like it is and AMEN np !  ;)

I've updated the Team Green thread with the races and chassis allocations.  You will find them here (https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9382.msg183034#msg183034).

The allocations are totally arbitrary at the moment.  Just PM me with your preferences (best car and best tracks) and I'll try and sort it out.  Don't forget the rules we all have to drive each chassis at least 3 times and we must run all 3 cars in each race (well it doesn't actually say that in the rules but I think that is the intention.  For example we couldn't all run Ferrari's at Spa and then all drive Porsche's at Mosport).  Ideally we need our best driver (Donni) in the best car on his best tracks.  I know the other teams can see our selections and can then allocate their chassis tactically but it won't affect our chances much.  We are more likely to disadvantage ourselves by getting confused over what chassis we are supposed to use and then developing a setup and practicing in the wrong car.

Actually Clive, the GT teams didn't follow team lines and I would be happy to swap with SamB - not quite sure why I registered as 75%. It might make a better balance.

I have put the three unattached drivers in Team Lonely <ahem> as a suggestion.

We also have room for another driver to make our full six teams. After that it will be reserve positions only.

Modified the post to tidy up the driver lists. Hope that is ok.

When the teams are finalised you need to pick three chassis that together with the driver ratings are worth IN TOTAL les than 250 tokens. Each driver then drives each chassis at least three times during the ten race season. You will need to PM SamB and Tim (FullMetalGasket) to get their views. Give it until the end of the weekend and I can make some suggestions.

- we run for fun, classification and performance are secondary target for us;

I am somewhat confused about your comment re the Mk2????? I thought you were not racing in the GT's and Tim (FMG) was taking your place?? Hence the change to a Mk2 ( now a Mk4 at Tim's suggestion) to keep within the budget.

If a team have only one car no matter, but if two drivers drive the same car how many times they have to drive it? I presume six?

Yes. You would have one car as Car A and one car as Car B if the chassis are the same then he must drive Car A at least three times and Car B three times so he must drive that chassis at least six times...

I don't intend doing many GT races, but I have just registered.  Please sow me as a second reserve for Clark Hill, I'll act as stand in if some of the others cant make it....like tonight for example  ;).

In exception at actual rules, i ask the moderators to be able to replace the 3 Gt40 Mk II, purchased for the championship, with as many Porsche 910, to be used for the remaining 8 races.
I accept immediate penalty for the violation of the rule g) or, alternatively, to have cleared the points scored in two races played so far.
Paul, if you want to drive your favorite car, get busy and put a good word for my request ...  ;D

Due to a change in circumstances (new PC) I shall be returning to GT's as FPS issues are no longer.......a problem.

just voted with over 75% attendance to take part, my friend Samb races in this championship so thought it would  be some good fun to join in.  Never played GPL before let alone the GT mod so really not bothered at all about what car I should use just want to have some fun ^^ I have played plenty of other racing sims.  Would love to join in on tonights race, not sure what I am needed to do to be able, probably should start with reading the rules  I'll be sitting at my pc all day doing work so I can quickly reply to any PMs and also i'll make sure i am connected to the chat lobby of the practice server aswell.

Hi Tornado.... welcome to UKGPL.

You are more than welcome to join in the fun, although if you have not had much practice with the GPL GT cars before, you may find them a handful. Most of the GT's will be doing 1:27's or better around Mosport which gives you an idea of the pace to aim at. I presume that you have downloaded and installed all of the relevant software /updates/ mod files for GPL and have it running on your PC.  I also suggest that you join one of our practice servers on IGOR to test your on-line connection before you try to use it in anger. ;) Samb can probably point you in the right direction for most things.

Of all the classes that we run in UKGPL the GT's ( and I include the Porsche Cup series in that) are the only ones where races are proper "Team" events. Which means that drivers have to a part of an existing team set up at the begiining of the season in order to participate. We tried using reserves last season and things got a little confusing when some reserve drove for different teams throughout the season. 

I suggest that you study the rules and regs for the GT series ( here https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9981.0) plus the other classes, and take a look on Igor this afternoon , there will almost certainly be some of our guys using on of the servers for practice and you are more than welcome to join in and try out the GT's on-line.

I obviously have no idea of how fast you might be, nor do I know what experience you have with GPL but if you want to get some racing fun, I recommend that you start with the 65 GP cars and the very new F2's. Both of these classes generate very fast and close racing and many newcomers start with these and graduate to the 66's, 67's 69's and the GT's ( although not necessarily in that order!! or indeed to all of them).

Watch out for UKGPL practice servers on IGOR where you can join and get a feel of what level you are at. At UKGPL we always try to group drivers of the same ability into the same races so that everyone enjoys close racing with people of more or less equal ability. There is always plenty of advice available if you have any questions about car setups or anything to do with setting up GPL on your computer etc...people who are far more knowledeable than me.
