1  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 44 (Spring 2024) 1967 F1 (Works) - Mont-Tremblant - Apr 21 on: April 21, 2024, 10:55:37 PM +0100
I'm not sure what happened ahead of me on lap 1. I was passing under the bridge going into a blind left hand turn when suddenly there was a car in the middle of the road. No chance to avoid it, and after I hit that car someone hit me, and as far as I could see lot's cars after that piled up behind. Somehow, I don't think I suffered serious damage, outside of time I lost. For a few laps I could see Tristan a few seconds down the road, and there was a cooper behind me. But eventually Tristan pulled away, and cars behind dropped further back , and I was on my own. Than I saw yellow flags, and Phil was 2-3 seconds ahead. From that point on I was always closel, a few times even very close to Phil's car. I had one chance for overtaking at right hand loop, when I was on the inside but Phil held it well on the outside. Rest of the way Phil kept it tight and didn't give me another chance to attack.
Grats to podium.

I must be doing something wrong cause for me ff is so weak. I can barely feel the difference between tarmac and grass, and turning the wheel requires very little force.
My wheel profile is now 100% equal to yours.
This is  gem+

And this is a setup I'm using for St Jovite
3  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 21, 2024, 05:07:29 PM +0100
I set another profile to the exact same settings as your wheel (so I can quickly switch between them). I also use P1 wheel, that came as part of a bundle when I bought CSL DD. I had to change gem+ to something higher, since the wheel was way to jumpy. I used 450 as that is something you mentioned. Wheel just feels lighter, and the left/rigth jumpiness (I don't know how else to describe it) when adjusting mid corner makes me feel way less in control. I don't know, maybe that's the point, whoever created ffb2 though 67 cars are not difficult enough Smiley

Edit: I tried 550 in gem+ and the wheel is less jumpy, but it's so light. I'm getting similar lap times with my old settings and with your wheel settings plus 550 gem+, but the wheel lightness makes me feel less confident in controlling the car when something goes wrong and you're trying to catch the car. Plus it's easier to oversteer since the wheel turns so easily, it's practically like you have power steering.

I'm not comparing GPL to modern games.
I'm comparing GPL between windows and linux, with and without ffb2. For me, windows without ffb2 at 300 is noticeably stronger than with ffb2 at 300. At higher values than 300, ffb2 feels very light, car gets very difficult to catch when it starts to go into a spin, or when you try to countersteer on corner exit. FFB2 at 250, and the wheel gets pretty wild jumping from side to side to quickly. I don't think that FEI 90 makes that much of a difference, but if I get a chance I can try with it at 100 tomorrow.
5  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 20, 2024, 09:02:05 PM +0100
I tried ffb2. Seems more consistent between Linux and Windows. At 300 in GEM+, feels about the same strength in both, but weaker than Windows without it at 300. And I can't lower it more, I tried 250, and the wheel becomes very jumpy. When I say ffb2 is less strong at 300, I mean the strength needed to turn the wheel. At least in Windows, without ffb2, with stronger resistance in the wheel, the car feels heavier, and therefore easier to catch if something goes wrong.
I don't know, maybe I'm missing the point of ffb2.
Here's my wheel setting, taken from fanatec tuning menu under windows, but they're saved on the wheel, so it's the same values used for windows and linux.

Never heard of ffb2 patch Smiley What is it?
7  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 19, 2024, 09:20:04 AM +0100
I have the same 8nm version. I always keep ff strength on the wheel at 100. I tried 450 in gem+ but that made the wheel very light, so changed it back to 300, which is what I was using under windows.

I have discovered why GPL won't run in full screen. It's Mint scaling. If it's at 100%, than GPL will run in full screen, no matter the desktop or GPL resolution.

At 1080p I didn't need scaling so I was setting it at 100%, at 1440p I usually set it to 125%.  I discovered it by accident, when I left desktop at 1080p and set GPL to 1440p in Gem+ and it ran in full screen.
For fanatec driver I used this:
https://github.com/gotzl/hid-fanatecff
I compiled it from source.
I did drive in Linux and WIndows in two consecutive sessions for comparison and I feel that in WIndows force feedback is stronger. (I didn't change any settings on the wheel, same builtin profile used for both).
9  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 17, 2024, 08:42:21 PM +0100
I think it was the drivers. After I installed the system, I installed official amd drivers (amdgpu-install). I don't think that was needed, so I uninstalled them, and now I don't have artifacting in GPL.
The only problem now is resolution. I prefer to  have my desktop at 1440p, but if I go into GPL like that, it runs in a upper left corner. And upon exiting my desktop is in very low res, and I have to restart the whole pc to get back to normal (gui becomes to big, and I can't use it to change resolution without a restart). So I have to remember to change desktop resolution everytime I want to start GPL.

Btw, I installed fanatec drivers, and CSL DD is running properly, and with FFB.
10  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 16, 2024, 10:29:46 PM +0100
I lowered my desktop resolution from 1440p to 1080p, and now GPL is running in full screen. But when on track, my screen starts artifacting. This might have something to do with my system not seeing GPL properly and needing those corectrl and cpupower apps.
Because, I installed Assetto Corsa through steam (and special version of proton) and I'm running AC at 1080p with high details and averaging over 70fps, so I'm not missing raw power.

Edit:
This is what I mean by artifacting. And it happens on the desktop as well, after exiting GPL. Nothing like that happened when I used AC.

I removed wine 6 and installed wine 9 dev. Scaling in winecfg is now correct, but GPL still runs in a corner only, and leaving GPL leaves me in an even smaller resolution (probably 640x480) where the only thing I can do is restart, as everything is too big to see any options.
I installed CoreCtrl  and cpupower-gui, but I have no idea how to use them. Do you have any settings recommendation? When should I use them, how to turn them off, as I don't want my pc to work at it's max when it's not needed.

12  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 16, 2024, 01:54:18 PM +0100
I'm using kernel 6.5 (needed it for wifi).
CoreCtrl  is not available in Mint 21.3 repositories. I'm not sure how safe it is to add ubuntu version from a ppa, even on CoreCtrl  site they say it can break the OS. This shouldn't solve that graphical problem anyway, just give me more fps, if everything else is working. I assume same for cpupower-gui, but I really don't think this cpu needs it for GPL. I'm seeing reviewers playing Cyberpunk on this exact minipc.

I'm not going to switch distor's, I have setup everything in Mint that I need for a desktop replacement.

If I try winehq, I assume I need to uninstall the official version? Delete everything GPL related and start over? Which version is going to work with GPL? I saw some discussion about GPL not working with new versions.
On winehq site there are two version on the front page, stable is 9.0 and development 9.6.
13  UKGPL / General / Re: Linux mint Cinamon for GPL on: April 15, 2024, 11:23:05 PM +0100
I bought a minipc (AMD 7840HS, 780m integrated card, 16gb dual channel ddr5 ram), and I'm trying to see if GPL will run under Mint installation. I followed the guide, copied over my working GPL installation, installed GEM+, pointed it to my GPL folder.
In mint I'm using 125% scaling which seems to mess with wine interface.
For example, iGOR looks like this:

GPL when started via GEM+, is running only in the corner, and graphics don't look right even in that window:

When I leave GPL, my desktop is set to 1024x768 resolution.
I haven't gotten to my wheel setup, since there is no point in going further until I can solve these graphical problems.
Anybody got any idea what can I try?

System is Mint CInnamon 21.3, wine is 6.0.3 from software manager.
Gem+ screen:

Rasterizer screen:

Graphics screen

My desktop is set to that same 2560x1440 resolution.
winecfg screen, I changed dpi to 240 as the window was tiny with default dpi:

Well, it was good while it lasted. Shame I didn't get to finish the race.

Apologies for the contact Syd. Was it that touch that finished your race?? I was caught in the middle of 3 cars wide at T3 and was trying my best to hold a smooth line  Undecided

Contact started a spin, and then I got collected by a Mercedes, and it ended both of our races. I'd say it was a racing incident. I though we were two wide, and I was leaving enough space on the inside, but we were three wide.
Most of the time I couldn't see the cars around me in turns, so I was going by sound, and did not know Phil was also on the inside.
