Good to see you on track again Ian Smiley

Patch looks good, they've certainly solved the show stoppers wrt join lag and warping. I raced VERY close to cars last night without any issues. Contact and damage modelas are good also (Oops!). NK is still the only sim that gives me that wind through the hair feeling.... so to speak.

There's still a few rubbishy things going on though, like AA not working for me from the game, and the 'new' sounds which are fairly grim tbh. I resolved both last night, but why did I have to?

btw how many servers are you seeing in the lobby? I'm only seeing 4 or 5 servers at a time with the message "Contacted 5/120 servers" ....bit confused by that one too....

Yep, your right Ginsters - hell has indeed frozen over and pigs are flying past the windows.... but, yes the patch is out  Grin

I should be able to give it a blast over thje next few days, might see you out there Smiley

Not sure if it's the same singtel sim or not, but you can download it free from here:

http://singtel-ultimate-race-simulator-2008.en.softonic.com/

..... made by Kunos and the NK/BRD partnership Cool
4  Everything Else / Real World Racing / Re: F1 at Spa - the aftermath on: September 24, 2008, 03:42:44 PM +0100
I now consider F1 to be in the same bracket as wrestling, ie. not a sport, just lowest common denominator 'reality TV' type nonsense. As such I will not watch any more of it until there is a fundamental shift in how things are run.

Personally I think F1 is more watchable and interesting now than any time since the early 90s. The last three seasons have been excellent compared to the 10 before. If there was an Irish guy showing the talent of Lewis I'd be even more immersed in it. Surely when he overcomes the might of the FIA trying to scupper him, and becomes world champion then you'll be interested again, no?

...........
I cant remember seeing a 25 second penalty in F1 before, maybe before 2001
 ...............

The 25 sec penalty was introduced after Schumi won the (British?) Grand Prix in the pit lane while serving a stop/go penalty.
The decision was made then that if there was not enough laps left to serve the penalty during complete laps of the race then a time penalty would be given after the finish.

Woohoo! there's two of us now  laugh laugh

I knew I wasn't alone, cheers Ian!

Just reading this thread now for the first time and I have to say I'm quite surprised by the reaction to the penalty and the subsequent appeal.

All the drivers I've heard talking about it agreed with the penalty (except Heiki). Lewis in his initial statement said that the team had asked him to let Kimi back through again after he had taken the place in La Source.
To me this says it all, and MacLaren appeared to have changed their story by race end, and to have jumped on the media bandwagon afterwards Sad

This highlights the constant battle between the views of the drivers and the views of the media/viewers; the media and viewers of course want to see more overtaking, but it is not acceptable that drivers should have to loose positions in this manner just to slake the thirst of the viewing public.
This is why the drivers themselves in the majority agree with the penalty, not because they are jealous of Lewis as I read in some ridiculous tabloid. Drivers need to stick together on these matters, to prevent the sport from becoming a contrived TV show for ratings purposes.
If overtaking is difficult or rare then the problem is with the cars or circuits. Drivers should not be allowed overtake like this simply because its difficult to get past otherwise.

Hamilton is a great racer and would likely have passed Kimi before the end of the race if he bided his time a bit. Leaving aside the black and white (or grey) legal side of things, personally I think it was a bit unsporting, as were some of his chops across peeps in braking zones in the wet last week too.
He's a good enough driver to do well without such moves, and will probably deservedly win the championship anyway. But if he doesn't it certainly would be silly for him to blame the FIA or Ferrari.

Apparently its getting closer :

http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=328596

..... since the last update governments have come and gone, they've landed probes on Mars and even built the biggest particle accelerator in the world..... but fear not the NK patch is almost ready  laugh

Seriously though, if this works and fixes what they say it fixes then I'll be back on board for sure.
8  SimRacing In General / iRacing / Re: Race times thread on: September 08, 2008, 09:41:30 PM +0100
Hit up the ar5e on lap 1 at T3 by some idiot, pitted and a lap down again and I didn't even have the will to carry on driving round in circles by myself so I quit Sad
9  SimRacing In General / iRacing / Re: Race times thread on: September 08, 2008, 08:58:26 PM +0100
Going to race the skip at 9:15 at VIR. Anyone around?
10  SimRacing In General / iRacing / Re: Upgrade path!? on: September 01, 2008, 01:46:25 PM +0100
I haven't bought Irwindale yet so won't be seeing you just yet. Not buying anything else until I get the $15 bonus credit as it has to be spent before the end of September anyway (another stupid policy imho).

What if they dont bring out any more content before September 30th and you've already bought it all?
Not that I have, I'm just being a smarta$$, but I'm sure their best customers who bought everything wont be impressed!

I've done two oval races so far but I'm still a rookie so doomed to drive the Legend for the moment. Getting absolutely trounced on the ovals though and was lapped twice the other night at Lanier laugh
11  SimRacing In General / iRacing / Re: Starting to realise how good iRacing is... on: August 25, 2008, 12:42:41 PM +0100
........
If necessary put in a couple of qually sessions and just cruise round to get your SR up again. Sounds daft and in many ways it is, but it makes sense if you are anywhere near dropping through the 4 barrier.

You can call me stubborn Paul, but I'm not going driving round in circles just so that I can get back to where I was. I've got to wait 10 weeks afaik to get a license so the chances are that even if I get my rating back up I'll end up losing it again anyway. Maybe NK 1.03 will be out by then  laugh laugh laugh

...as a general rule-of-thumb, it might be a good idea to avoid the Sunday and Monday races as folk (re)learn the circuit.

You may have a point Steven, I was in a couple of clean races last week which I really enjoyed, but then as soon as it changed to Limerock it became a disaster. I'll probably be racing on Thursday night so fingers crossed Smiley
12  SimRacing In General / iRacing / Re: iRacing Friends Discussion on: August 25, 2008, 10:21:19 AM +0100
I've taken the plunge for a month anyway to see how it goes. First impressions are good Smiley

Prison Brake Purcell?  Wink

TT

Nah, they just let me out at weekends Wink
13  SimRacing In General / iRacing / Re: Starting to realise how good iRacing is... on: August 25, 2008, 12:03:03 AM +0100
Well thats 3 Skip Barber races in a row i have been done into turn 1. Starting 3rd behing Rory King and Ross McGregor. Ross gets a bad start so I am alongside, 4th place decides to go between us into Turn 1. Only one result with 3 cars side by side. The bloke spun again after we all reset and quit out so I have messaged him.  Roll Eyes

Yes Paul I was in that race too and lost alot of SR points due to the massive pile up that followed.

I then joined the 11:15 race and guess what? yes, another pile up at T2, this time involving 7 cars. The 7 of us reset and the other 6 were placed on the lead lap but it dropped me a lap behind them again for some reason, which is slightly annoying as well. I then later got hit with 4x contact twice without hitting anything..... mmm let me see, yes that's annoying too.

My SR is now taking a hit in every race and soon it will be back down below 4, which will force me back into the Solstice.....mmm let's see - very annoying. At that point I will certainly not be doing timetrials just to get my rating back, especially when I have not casued a single incident or hit anything since I started iracing.
Glad I only paid for a month.

I wil continue to race it until my SR drops back below 4 and then its in the recycle bin  Sad

Grats on the win Martin Smiley
And nice to meet you on track Pops. Hopefully a few of us from here might get onsome more grids together, although I think Ginsters was on  last night too but not put into the same race.

I've just done my first race at Summit Point and I'm happy to say it was an extremely good one!
...............
Driving was very courteous and fair too Smiley

Yep a really enjoyable track/car combination and as you say with some clean driving in general....... apart from the leader Amico who intentionally squeezed me onto the grass when I got alongside to challenge Angry  He was willing to take me out rather than come in 2nd so that was that.
15  SimRacing In General / netKar-Pro / Re: Patch update on: August 22, 2008, 03:04:37 PM +0100
LMAO, but now that I look at the pics above all I can say is those cars look crisp and clear. Kerbs and road surface look great. I'd forgotten how good NK looked. Pity about the net code and the 3 year update cycle  Roll Eyes
