31  SimRacing In General / GTR2 / Re: Graphics card for GTR2 on: October 28, 2007, 07:59:47 PM +0000
.........
I have got online quotes from a couple of companies for the following spec:

Core 2 duo 2.66Ghz 6750 1333FSB
Tower case with 500W supply
ASUS p5N-E nforce 650i SLi chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2/800  Motherboard
2 x 1Gb PC6400 DDR2/800 Memory
ATI Radeon X1950 Pro PCI-Ex16 256MB Video card
320 SATA II 3.0 GB/s 16Mb Cache 7200RPM HDD

Sony Dual layer DVD Writer
Windows XP Home

The prices are between £500 and £550 + VAT

Would you be able to build a PC with that spec (inc OS) for much less than that Paul?

Anyway, I think I've decided that Dell would not be a good idea, so thanks for the feedback on that. I too have experienced Dell's rather unique hardware (anyone remember the 16 MHz 386sx?).

Just catching this thread now, the bits marked in bold is what I run GTR2 on. Identical spec to your list Paul and its running great.

That hardware combo runs the game well at 1650x1080 with vertical sync at 60 and triple buffering on. I do have a lot of settings set to medium but it never drops below the sync'd 60fps. In the rain I cant really run at 1650 resolution because framerate drops below 60 and then the vertical sync gets choppy. At 1360x768 resolution and shadoes set to low I get a constant 60fps in the rain with lights on..

If you want to turn on the extra graphics candy then you really need to get the 1950XT card but what you've listed works for me.

btw I'm running this on a chieftec 360W power supply with no problems, because I wired it right Tongue

32  SimRacing In General / rFactor / Re: F1 1979 is out! on: October 23, 2007, 11:18:34 PM +0100
Here's the settings I've got in the realfeel.ini for 2006champcar and the GP79 Williams

[General]
RealFeelIsOn=True
ConsoleEnabled=False
ConsoleRepeatDelay=0.100000
SpeechEnabled=True
KeyRepeatDelay=0.100000
SteerForceInputMax=-11500.000000
MinSpeed=10.000000
[2006]
MaxForceAtSteeringRack=400.000000
SteeringDamper=0.000000
FFBMixerRealFeelPercent=80.000000
SmoothingLevel=0

[Williams]
MaxForceAtSteeringRack=900.000000
SteeringDamper=2400.000000
FFBMixerRealFeelPercent=100.000000
SmoothingLevel=0

If you want a more physical workout you can increase the SteeringDamper setting by a thousand.
In RF I've got FF set to +60% and FF_effects set to 'LOW'. If you dont set the FF_effects level to low then the canned effects just get played back over the realfeel and drown it out.
FF is a very subjective thing but this is what works for me Tongue
33  SimRacing In General / rFactor / Re: F1 1979 is out! on: October 23, 2007, 01:25:58 PM +0100
Its a plugin so just pop the dll into the plugins directory.
There is an ini file that is created and there are two parameters that I played with for a while and eventualy it felt great. I'll send you my ini file later Mark, although its for a black momo........

wrt it not working on all mods it is offputting but I think that all recent mods have properly designed physics due to some car marking tool that's now out (which supports realfeel).
Also its possible to use realfeel or the original FF, infact also possible to use a certain % of each at same time, and also possible to change from realfeel to standard FF and back again while in cockpit which is a nice feature.

The game is lifeless, even go as far as to say useless, with the standard FF imo.
34  SimRacing In General / rFactor / Re: F1 1979 is out! on: October 23, 2007, 10:49:44 AM +0100
Realfeel did nothing for me. It actually made the FF worse so I went back to normal feedback which felt ok until I went back to GTR2.

That's strange, it totally transformed the game for me......... although it depends on which mod you're driving. Agree with your point about amateur addons, and some of the car suspensions are not properly designed from a physics point of view. This means that the forces at the steering rack (which realfeel uses) are not correct, and the plugin wont work correctly, if at all. This is a fault of the car design rather than realfeel itself.

Realfeel works great with GP79 and Champcar for me. I get more feel from the FF than I do in GTR!
35  SimRacing In General / rFactor / Re: F1 1979 is out! on: October 23, 2007, 09:50:11 AM +0100
I think the physics and the realism are pretty good in RF. Most of the mods/addons are god quality but there are some dubious ones too. The main thing that lets it down is the completely crappy force feedback which makes all the cars feel like big lumps of lead with power steering. All the FF is of the canned variety and there's a bunch of latancy thrown in for good measure to make sure you can never feel the car losing grip in time.

So my vote for the best mod ever for RF is the RealFeel FF plugin, it completely transforms the game and gives excellent FF very similar to Netkar.

38  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 6 Lower Endurance - Spa - Oct 21 on: October 21, 2007, 10:09:08 PM +0100
Well after having a stonking race and some great battles with Picnic, Jan and Ruskus amongst others my pitcrew refused to service me again Sad Huh
Its happened at nearly every endurance race last season too, even since my re-install of GTR. Totally infuriating especially when having such fun. Was really looking forward to the stint after the stops to see where everyone's strategies lined up.

Nice racing by everyone as usual  Cool
39  Everything Else / Real World Racing / Re: Fuji on: October 21, 2007, 10:03:39 PM +0100
Well all three of them within a point is quite amazing and any of them deserved it. Cruel luck for Hamilton, and a very lucky and surprised Kimi.

If the broken gearbox was caused by him running off the road then Kimi deserved the championship. If not, how ironic that McLaren's lack of reliability in the final round has gifted Kimi the championship!

I think Hamilton may have done more damage to his car when he hit a kerb very badly while he was recovering behind Rosberg(I think) after the initial mistake on lap1. He gave the underside of the car such a thump I was surprised nothing broke there and then. Either way it's still unlucky that it broke, but it did break very shortly after.

I couldn't help but think also that if they had filled him up to the brim in his first stop he could have jumped a few of them and made 5th spot and the championship.........

40  UKGTR / UKGTR Announcements / Re: Official UKGTR Season 6 registration on: October 16, 2007, 03:42:43 PM +0100
Dave, I'm not going to make races on Tuesdays for the coming months Sad
You can offer out my full time spots in upper and lower sprints.

If possible can I move from reserve to full time in lower endurance racing in the GTC class?

Thanks,
Mo.
41  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 6 Upper Endurance - Spa - Oct 14 on: October 14, 2007, 10:22:02 PM +0100
Right that's me finished with the MC12, its far too inconsistant in power and grip. Tired of all the manhandling it through the corners only for it to spin every 5 or 6 laps. Its not enjoyable to race and takes far too much aggression to go quick. I did 3 or 4 complete 360s in the race for no apparent reason and it took off like a bullet on the Kemmel straight on 1 or 2 laps dumping me down into the chicane almost 30kmh quicker. Engine was revving like crazy, thought it was going to blow or something. There's definitely a bug there Sad

Grats to CJ on a great qual lap! Apologies to Darren and Ruskus, I think I made what could be called aggresive passes on you both Undecided
42  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 6 Upper Sprint - Adria - Oct 9 on: October 10, 2007, 11:02:35 AM +0100
...Adria is just like cycling a bike around the sitting room for 40 mins...

Lol, that's the best description I heard ever!  Grin

TT

I heard it somewhere before, think it was Emerson Fittipaldi describing racing at Monaco  Cheesy
43  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 6 Upper Sprint - Adria - Oct 9 on: October 10, 2007, 09:52:52 AM +0100
Very close qual indeed and really enjoyable. Absolutely chuffed to get a blistering lap in the MC12 only a couple of tenths from pole!
Wasn't so close in the race though and Zac managed to pull away while I pestered Gazza. Apologies, because in the end I gave you a tap on the rear corner on the exit of chicane 2. I dont know how it happened because it was in an acclerating zone and not a braking zone. Sorry  Huh

Rest of the race was a challenge trying to catch back up and eventually had a great dice with ginsters.

After a few laps the flying Mo caught me up and got past only to go off again. Bugger me if he didn't catch me again (great fun watching you push hard in the mirrors, worth the entrance fee alone Smiley) but I held him till final lap. At least I thought it was the final lap Roll Eyes, I slowed, he sped past and then I realised we had one more to go. Who cares when it was that much fun and I at least I didn't wreck as I was just about to Smiley

Didn't have a clue what you were up to m8! I was suffering a case of target fixation after following you and when you went off at final curve I followed you straight into the gravel LMAO. After getting out first I let you through so we could continue our battle, but then you slowed and let me back through again :/  Anyway the race was a blast and it was over before I knew it, which is always a sign of a busy race, although Adria is jyust like cycling a bike around the sitting room for 40 mins!

Glad to have this place behind now though and move onto a real racing track with some fast flowing corners and lots of overtaking through the bus stop and La Source Wink Grin

Grats to Zacari in the flying Lister!
44  UKGTR / UKGTR Races / Re: UKGTR Season 6 Lower Endurance - Adria - Oct 7 on: October 07, 2007, 09:40:26 PM +0100
Well after being very happy with qual it went downhill pretty quick. Got a bump from behind on lap 2 which dropped me to 17th and then ran into someone else's accident not long after, followed by my PC freezing on the s/f straight Sad

Hope my stranded car didn't cause chaos  Undecided
45  Everything Else / Real World Racing / Re: Fuji on: October 05, 2007, 02:17:47 PM +0100
LOL they never cease to amaze me. If Hamilton's not at fault then Vettel is to blame for driving into the back of Webber. Why reverse the decision about the Vettel penalty if it's not Lewis or Webber's fault?
Anyway we can all move on to enjoy the race and see Lewis wrap up the championship over the weekend!
