1  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1955 Grand Prix - Zandvoort - Jan 20 on: Today at 08:34:22 AM
A '55 practice server would be nice, once in a blue moon!
I'm on holiday ATM so I can't provide a practice server for this round but I intend to have a regular praccy server up for the rest of the rounds  Grin.

I do have 27 tokens to carry forward to the next round Grin.
But I must admit, I'd rather have 50 points than 27 tokens  Wink

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

It's the second best time in Hockenheim with the T86B !
Just had a look now. I was only 1.701 seconds slower than the WR time, so actually not a bad result for me. Everyone, apart from 2 of us, posted a fastest lap that was better than the T86B WR time. So I did pick a bit of a mule, but I do have 27 tokens to carry forward to the next round Grin.

I didn't expect to do very well tonight so I opted for a cheap car to increase my stash of tokens. Although I was last, I was quicker than I had anticipated but no where near quick enough to match Monsieur Rainier. Congratulations David, a brilliant race. I need to learn your secret.

Unlucky Axel, I thought you were on target to win your home Grand Prix.

I'm on holiday for a week or so, back for the 55GP race at Spa. That will be interesting after having driven these super fast machines.

Do we have a final number of laps for the rounds where laps are showing ??.

7  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1955 Grand Prix - Zandvoort - Jan 20 on: January 10, 2019, 10:47:18 PM +0000
Season 34 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 1 – Zandvoort

The first race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Zandvoort in the Netherlands.  The first race held on the new permanent Zandvoort circuit was on 7 August 1948. Soon more races followed on the course, with the first official Formula 1 Grand Prix becoming a milestone in 1952. From 1952 until the mid-eighties, heroes like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost braved the challenging course in the Dutch dunes and won at Zandvoort. After the Grand Prix of 1985, the Formula 1 circus left Zandvoort, but the seaside resort and its impressive race track were not forgotten. Many years after the last Grand Prix, the ‘racing drivers of the day’ still talk about their experience on the race track where the challenging corners ‘separated the men from the boys’.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the 1955 Grand Prix cars will again be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement. See table below.

Great news Dave.  It would be good to run a few test races to prove your server. An extra race server would be a big help. Covering for holidays is a bit difficult with just two official race servers (me with UKGPL_4 and Axel with UKGPL_8).  I think the name UKGPL_2 isn't being used at the moment  Wink.

Erm, I was an am yesterday, have I been promoted or was is seeing things?
It was a typo in my part, sorry Gareth. I corrected it yesterday but obviously not before you spotted it.

the little men in red jumpers turn out to help me know where I am!
For me it's the men in white coats... Hate the place. Not ideal for online racing IMO. So many places you can go off and no way back without back tracking to find a gap in the shrubbery and getting a DQ due to "Reversing on Track". Sad
OK so if 2 drivers really don't like Dundrod, how many others are of the same opinion?  It would be a shame to not use a track that is contemporary with 1955 but I appreciate it is a difficult track to master. I might consider swapping it for Oulton Park if there is a majority in favour. I think the Oulton Park 1967 layout was first used in 1955 for the International Gold Cup (a shorter version of the track was used in 1954).  We've used it several times for other  on-line races with no problems and we should all be familiar with the track. Please let me know if you want to swap to Oulton Park or stick with Dundrod.

The extra tokens are just a bit of fun because the Ams and Pros are separate classes within the same race. You may have noticed that all the championship tables are setup like that this season. Last season we only had the 67F1 and 65F1 set up as separate and combined championships.

How does that work for the Team Championship when there is one Pro and one Am in a team?

It doesn't at the moment but I'm pretty sure I can set up a combined Team Championship. I'll have a go at setting that up tonight.
Done.  All classes now have a "Combined Team" championship.

The Pro and Amateur competitions are completely separate but just happen to be on the track at the same time.
If are separated then is ok.
The extra tokens for the Ams is not meant to allow all the Ams to compete with all the Pros. As Clive has pointed out, Tim has proven that no amount of extra tokens would allow the slower Ams like me to compete with the fastest Pros. However a few extra tokens could help some of the faster Ams keep up with the regular Pros. They also boost the morale of some of the slower Ams who's main objective is not to get lapped too early!

Any reason you're not using the shiny new 67x for this?
Given it looks likely I'll be racing the 67's in Assetto Corsa at some point this year I'm not too interested in the normal mod, but could be tempted by the novelty of the 67x..
We haven't discussed this in the mods or drivers forums. The 67x is effectively a new mod (different physics as well as graphics) so we would have to ask Giz to create another car set in SRou. Trying to import 67x results as 67 results (if SRou allowed it) would cause all sorts of problems with the UKGPL lap and race record times. So given the timescales (Season 34 starts on 13/01/2018) it isn't feasible to try to run the 67x in place of the original 67s for season 34.

Having said that we could run some fun races in the 67x cars during Season 34. If they prove to be popular we could discuss running 67x cars in Season 35.

Welcome back Robert. I don't know how you go as fast as you do, I'm amazed you are getting quicker  Grin

Wishing you all the best for a happy and healthy new year.
