I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

2299  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1966 F1 - VIR - Mar 5 on: March 08, 2019, 06:51:37 PM +0000
hi all...

I cant find best place to email the forums.. so hope the latest race thread will be OK.

I have finally got the time to come back to online racing and cant think of anything better the good ol GPL and UKGPL in particular.

I have just retired so now have the time needed. dusting off the old wheel, pedals, shifter etc this week and need to get back up to speed asap.

to make a long story short .. i managed to get back onto here and can post etc.. but a lot of old links send me to SRMZ  and the track database etc.etc. but Im having real trouble remebering usernames and resetting passwords etc. I usually used paul_v or similar as a username and my email addy of [email protected] but Im not getting any reply messages. Are there any Mods from those sites able to help please or can anyone point me in the right direction.

without access to the sites im unable to get the newest stuff.

I need to udate my gpl install of course.. get newest drivers for all the hardware. etc,etc but as soon as im sorted Im hoping to be allowed back to race with you guys.

cheers.. Paul Villiers

p.s. sorry to hijack the race thread.  but perhaps a mod can set up a thread for me and delete this one

Hi Paul

Welcome back.  You have got the right account on here so you should be able to pick up where you left off, the last of your 87 races was on 20 June 2013. A lot has happened since then!

If you can't access the old sites I suggest this site would be a good place to start. It has links to all the new mods you have missed.  You may have to create a new account on SRMZ etc.

There is a lot of life left in the old game Wink. Happy retirement   thumbup2

Regards

Phil

Season 34 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 5 – Albi

The fifth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Albi, small town in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France.  Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988 but we will be using the original layout as raced in 1967.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the 1955 Grand Prix cars will again be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement. See table below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

There is a rule as Cookie has pointed out, but it is there to cater as much for re-joins as it is for corner cutting.

We discussed corner cutting at Pebble Beach see here. We decided it was too much effort for the moderators to check every lap to see if anyone was corner cutting. Given that corner cutting is the same for everyone, it is a level playing field so we ignored corner cutting at the chicane at Pebble Beach. Not ideal but a pragmatic solution. If corner cutting is causing problems at a track then we shouldn't use it. However in this case, as Tris has shown, corner cutting isn't necessarily faster.

We have had incidents where drivers have still been racing when on the grass. An example was at Snetterton in Season 20, when Maddog carried on racing whilst outside the track boundary. The rule Cookie has quoted above, puts the onus on the driver re-joining the track not to make contact. The rule is to clarify when a driver is deemed to have left the track and consequently when the rules about re-joining can be applied. Or to put it another way, nobody should be overtaken or disadvantaged by someone leaving and re-joining the track i.e. cutting corners.

This isn't an easy topic to address without causing a huge workload for the moderators.

I then spent the rest of the race managing my brakes and the gap to Phil behind me.I had a bit of a moment and Phil got in my slipstream and I thought damn but a couple of laps later he appeared to lose it on the brakes going into Ostkurve "what happened Phil?".
I got such a good draft I was catching you at a very quick rate and I had to apply the brakes quite hard whilst turning. I hadn't practiced that before and that wasn't the time to find out the setup wasn't very stable under heavy trail braking. I got into a tank slapper and spun  Shocked

Arrrgggghhh  CTD with 4 laps to go Huh.  Never mind, at least I will get some points because I completed 50% race distance. The little Connaught was struggling without a tow. I spun out at Sachs Curve 3 times!! Just trying to get the power down too early in an effort to keep up with the faster cars. Grats to Clive for the pole, looks like Bastian managed to connect and was doing very well with 4 laps to go.

Smiley Really difficult enter Motodrom with green brakes  Shocked

Nice laps all  Wink
Great to do some laps with you. Hot lapping is OK for developing setups but nothing beats practising with other drivers to develop race craft. Getting used to driving in close proximity is essential with the slipstream and brakes in this mod.

CTD is more than likely associated with graphics settings on the client and nothing to do with the server. However the race server (UKGPL_4) is up for testing on IGOR please test your connections.

Season 34 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 4 – Hockenheim

The fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Hockenheim in Germany. The track was originally called "Dreieckskurs" (triangle course) and was built in 1932 using roads in the forest as an alternative to the Wildpark-Circuit in Karlsruhe. The track was used for motorcycle racing and was expanded to be used as test track for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union in 1936. In 1938 the track was drastically shortened to 7.5 kilometres and it was renamed the "Kurpfalzring". This name was used until 1947 when the unchanged layout was renamed again to "Hockenheimring". This version of the circuit, which was used in 1955, consisted of the original two long straights, with the Ostkurve in the forest and the original hairpin inside Hockenheim joining them together. In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. But the track was still dangerous and claimed the life of Patrick Depailler in 1980. So in 1982, the first chicane was made slower and a third chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve). In the early 2000s, Formula 1 officials demanded the 6.823 km (4.240 mi) track be shortened and threatened to discontinue racing there.  So the state government of Baden-Württemberg secured the financing for a redesign by Hermann Tilke ready for the 2002 German Grand Prix. The new "Tilke Track" was not universally popular and many drivers preferred the long circuit. Sadly the old circuit was torn up and replanted with trees thereby preventing any chance of reinstating the long circuit for Formula 1 or indeed using it for historic car races.

Tonight we will be using the 1967 version of the long track that doesn't have the three chicanes.

2310  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 34 (2019) 1969x F1 - VIR - Feb 26 on: February 27, 2019, 11:33:32 PM +0000
I am an Amateur, so (assuming I start the first five races) I have 10 + 20 + a further 10 for starting each race.  So for race 1, I would have 40 points available, minus my chassis (17) leaving 23, and so on.  However, on the points table after every race I appear to have 10 points less.

I should be able to spend 130 points in total, correct?
Not quite.  Amateurs get 20 tokens at the start of the season not 30 (10 +20).  I'll correct the season description, the word "additional" makes it a little misleading.  However the calculation for a late starter is correct i.e. However an "Amateur" driver who fails to start any of the first 5 races will only be eligible for an additional allocation of 10 tokens (rather than 20).

So if you start all the races you will earn 10 x 10 = 100 tokens which means you are able to spend 120 tokens in total.

I hope that makes sense, sorry for the confusion.
