4516  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 15 Historic - Monaco - Apr 1 on: April 02, 2008, 12:35:41 AM +0100
I was so busy trying to type in a message asking people to take it easy on lap one that I missed the start LOL.  Anyway set off from the pit lane once everyone had cleared Saite Davote and came across a pile up at the top of the hill at Massenet.  I passed Amir, Neil, Bully and Ken.  Got on Burt’s tail who was following Clive Loynes and Terry.  Clive made a mistake at Tabac and I got through closing on Burt.  Burt’s Cooper was as wide as Foden truck and looked like it was handling just as well, it was all over the track.  Had to back off through the tunnel to avoid the risk of contact which compromised me through the chicane and to top it all I clipped the pavement and got into a nasty slide which slowed me considerably.  Clive had recovered and was well up to speed and he couldn’t avoid rear-ended me which deflected him into Ken’s path effectively ending Ken’s race.

I resume, lap 4, Clive and Neil have a shunt at the chicane.  Neil’s Eagle cartwheels down the right hand side of the track so I keep left but at the last second the flaming Eagle heads to the inside of Tabac and I can’t avoid it. Manage to escape without a shift R but I’m dead last, again!  Clive takes a stop and go and so I gain another place.  Lap 5 pass Amir who is coasting on the approach to Tabac.  Catch Neil who has spun at Gazometres, I get along side but can’t get past.  Settle down to some steady laps and Neil pulls away.  Lap 8, pass Bully who has blown his Honda motor in the tunnel.  Lap 11 and Prib is telling me Lorenzo is approaching, pull over after Casino Square to let him by.  Chase after Terry but he’s driving well and I can’t get by but I get lucky at Massenet.  Terry makes a mistake and I’m through.  Kruger is gaining fast and I pull over after Casino Square to let him by.  Evil is next along and I pull over after Virage de la Gare.  Evil chases after Kruger.

The race settles down and I put in some steady laps keeping an eye out for the leaders in my mirrors.  The server has not counted my first lap so Prib is a bit misleading but it is not too difficult to work out who is on a pace to lap me and who isn’t.  Amir is a safe distance behind for a good few laps but then on Lap 28 and Neil is gaining fast so I figure he is about to lap me.  I start to think about where to let him by and loose concentration on the approach to Gazometres and I spin.  This lets Neil by but fortunately Amir is not close enough to capitalise on my mistake.  Kept it steady for the last few laps and I think I came home in 6th if the moderator reinstates my first lap.

Had to do Monaco to be true to the 66 season but it was always going to be a bit of a lottery.  Grats to the podium who all drove brilliantly.  All the finishers deserve a pat on the back too, that was hard work.

Paul Skingley put some 66mod setups on the old yahoo forum here.  The contents of the supplied setups folder should be pasted into your gpl/players/66player/setups folder.

I'll try and find somewhere on SRou to put stuff like this.
4518  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / UKGPL Season 15 Division 1 - Kyalami - Apr 6 on: March 31, 2008, 10:09:19 PM +0100
UKGPL Season 15 Division 1 - Round 1 - Kyalami - Apr 6

The first round of the Season 15 Div 1 championship is at Kyalami.  Take it easy on the first lap especially at Crowthorne Corner, Barbeque Bend and the Jukskei Sweep.  Please make sure you have the pitwall in place.  Anyone caught miraculously driving through the pit wall on the server replay will be disqualified.  Don't forget, incident reports should be entered on the SRou system following the link at the bottom of the results table when it appears.  Race details below.

Div 1 Season 15 Round 1 is this Sunday at 9:00 p.m. London UK time (8:00 p.m. GMT).
Please be in VROC UKGPL chatroom passworded Savage by 8:55 p.m.

Hi Mike

Please can you update your driver history and your driver details with your GPL Rank.  If you've competed in UKGPL before you should be able to add your results to your driver history in SRou.  There is plenty of room in the Masters and 1 place left in the clubmans.  There are only reserve places available in the other 2 divisions.  I need to know what standard you are so we can fit you in to an appropriate division.

Cheers

Phil
4520  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 15 Clubmans - Kyalami - Mar 30 on: March 28, 2008, 10:37:53 PM +0000
bloody hell didnt know the season starting already on sunday, wheres all the notice lol.
Burt,

The UKGPL web site is the best place to start.  On the left hand side there is a link to the forums and also links to the Season 15 pages including the Clubmans

The latest race announcements are always on the UKGPL web site but you may have to scroll down to see them.  The next events are also on the web site in a separate section on the right entitled Forthcoming Events.  You can always use the Calendar to look further ahead.  The future events are also on the Clubmans results page but you'll have to hover the mouse over the flags to reveal the race details.

You won't be getting email announcements any more.  All the details are on SRou so it is up to the drivers to make sure they check on race times, chassis restrictions and passwords etc.  I think it is a big improvement over the Yahoo forums but it may take a while for everybody to get used to the new setup.

Cheers

Phil

Since the first race is on Tuesday do we know yet what the car allocation is?
Syd has just posted the race announcement here
4522  UKGPL / General / Re: New season on: March 25, 2008, 09:40:25 PM +0000
why am i under reserve?, it only has to be me as well (picking on me?)
We had 20 entries for 19 places so someone has to be a reserve.  There are 2 criteria for deciding on reserves, the first being how early someone registered and the second being how many races they intend to do.  Nobody registered late and you were the only driver to declare that you would be available for less than 50% of races.  Hence you were picked as the reserve.

It's nothing personal Burt.  Anyway the chances of all 19 FT drivers turning up is very remote.  You're practically guaranteed a drive Wink.

Anybody else registering now will be a reserve regardless of how many races they intend to compete in.
4523  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: SBRC Recruitment on: March 25, 2008, 07:51:18 PM +0000
Yes the tracks are listed there BUT the track order has changed (to keep the order consistent with the Historic Championship).  Best place to look is on the D1 Results page (hover mouse over the flags).  The rounds are also in the calendar (or click on blue button above).

I think the easiest way to navigate around is to go to the UKGPL web site and get to the forums or results pages using the forums or Season 15 Links on the left.

Thanks Clive,

I have definitely polled this time, and looking forward to season 15
You're in now Graham, good luck in Season 15  Smiley

Thanks for setting this up.  I need all the practice I can get.  WIll there be more practice sessions for clubmans?
The first race is next week so there isn't any time to have another practice session.  I've had another look at the replay and you drove very well so you shouldn't have a problem next week.  The secret in UKGPL is to drive within your limits and not crash, that way you will get consistent results.  By the way I don't practice what I preach Embarrassed.  Good luck at Kyalami Smiley.

I have 1Gb of ram.  What does evetyone else run?
I have 1Gb too Clive.  No probs tonight.  I've asked Syd and the other mods to use the settings I've published here.  Hopefully that will help.

UKGPL Season 15 - Pre-season test - 67 Carset - Zandvoort

This race is aimed at the Clubmans drivers but everyone is welcome.  Zandvoort has been chosen because it is being used by all divisions at some stage in the season.  New drivers to UKGPL are strongly urged to attend this race, especially those drivers with little or no experience of on-line racing.  It is imperative that new drivers are aware of all the nuances of racing GPL on-line so that there is less chance of cock-ups at the start of the season.  Be it down to simple things like connecting to the server or to more acrimonious events like punting off the leader when he is lapping slower cars.

Pre-Season Test - this Sunday at 8:00 p.m. London UK time (GMT).

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 7:55 p.m.
(You will need to set up a channel called #ukgpl if you haven't already done so)

4528  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 15 Clubman's Cup Registration on: March 16, 2008, 10:50:06 PM +0000
The 67s are somewhat different to the 66s.  I'd recommend getting some practice in with the Cooper.  It's the best 67 chassis to learn in IMO.  Just use the default setup and change the fuel load as appropriate.  The standard setups are quite forgiving.  When you get better there are lots of setups available from faster more experienced drivers but these setups generally make the car harder to control so you'd best leave them alone for now.

Don't worry about getting a GPL rank in all chassis.  Pick one and practice with it to get decent lap times.  You can always compare your times with those from previous Clubmans races.  In fact I'd recommend you do a full race distance and compare your race time with those in the clubmans results for Season 14.  That way you'll be able to estimate where you would have finished Smiley.
4529  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 15 Clubman's Cup Registration on: March 16, 2008, 10:21:30 PM +0000
Hi Steve

Clubman's is the place to start Wink.  Have you got a GPL rank?  If not go here to get one  (you'll need to create an account there).  Then add your GPL rank to your driver profile here on SRou.

I'll try and organize a warm up race or two for the clubmans before Season 15 starts and we'll see how you go.

Please fill in the registration poll above.

Cheers

Phil

Apologies to Syd, Phil and Ken.....I managed to cause plenty of accidents  Sad. I think I should keep away from BRMs......
No probs Steven it was great fun (I didn't need a shift R or it might not have been so great).  Syd needs to have a good look at the race pace (excluding incidents) and see what the chassis allocation looks like.  Seemed pretty good for me.  I managed to stay on the same lap as Lorenzo who was flying laugh I wouldn't expect to beat him in any chassis, not to get lapped was a result for me!
