Great racing by everyone.
18  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Another new driver says Hi on: July 30, 2008, 10:08:04 AM +0100
Hello all , Another new driver here .
Can't say I have much online racing experience , Did a couple of races with the old Wireplay GPL league and also a few with the Average Drivers Club a few years a go , but found myself more worried about ruining someone else's race rather than enjoying mine so went back to racing the AI . Still not managed to go negative  +43.03 GPL rank and +543.080 Monster of GPL rank at the moment but think I would like to give online racing another go but am not to sure if I should be looking at a newbies league or an intermediate drivers league , Any suggestions ?

Paul

Welcome mate. Smiley

Don't be worrying about your GPL Rank as we've all been there and it takes time and practice. Not sure if you have them or not but look at http://www.sim-replays.de/ as there are some nice set ups there and that's where I started. Smiley Only thing to change really is the break bias. I started at around 57 and lowered it as I got better and more confident. I would suggest starting in Clubmans and go from there.

Good luck and c ya on the track.
19  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 15 Division 1 - Silverstone (GP 1952-73) - Jul 27 on: July 28, 2008, 09:19:11 AM +0100
Well after 4 weeks without touching my wheel I thought what the hell and braved it in D1.  Smiley

It all felt rather strange and my qually time was poor. As for the race well I started last and for all of the race apart from the last lap (Thanks to Will's misfortune) I was still last. Seeing Will run out of fuel wasn't great but but it did move me 2nd to last. lol

Gratz to Steve on his win and to podium.

As for iRacing.....well it all looks good on paper (or internet) but paying for something on a monthly basis doesn't float my boat due to my work commitments. I have also noticed as I understand that after paying for initial subscription you also have to pay if you want additional content? Not sure if I like that but I guess some people will so I will be sticking to GPL until the time comes that I have plenty of free time on my hands or most of the friends I've made in GPL decide to move.  Smiley

I agree with Hristo and Clive and hope that this is just a 'NEW GAME' phase and it doesn't ruin GPL for good.
20  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 15 Historic - Monza (GP 1955-71) - Jun 24 on: June 25, 2008, 10:35:48 AM +0100
Qually went pretty well for me and got my PB of a 33.9 so was happy with 5th.  Smiley

As for the race well I got a great start and made up a place straight away. Was tearing down towards T1 when I noticed Syd and Bernie spinning in front of me. They went off track and as I was coming towards the incident the spinning Fezza slid right into my path and I could do nothing but collide with it. Sad Lost a wheel or 2 so I done a NO FAULT Shift-R when it would let me. lol

This pretty much left me back in around 7th I believe when I eventually got going again and decided to plod on and see what happens. Made a few driving errors going into Parabolica but managed to settle myself down and start catching the pack. There were a few retirements and I got a place back after passing Tim and that was me now chasing Clive and Mike. I chased Mike down and got him going down into Parabolica. A Clive/Mike sandwich wasn't good as I was doing a lot of mirror watching. So now it was onto trying to pass Clive but always having my mirrors full of Mikes car.  Smiley Got nice drive out of Ascari and tucked in behind Clive and managed to overtake him into Parabolica. (Seemed like the best place to pass again  Grin) Clive wouldn't let go of that place very easily and he was in my mirrors for best part of a lap and a half. The Cooper wouldn't yield though and eventually I started pulling away.

The rest of the race was pretty uneventful  for me as I was trying to catch Kruger and Lorenzo. Not very easy but after looking at the replay I was matching them on times if not slightly quicker and was closing the gap but I ran out of laps and crossed the line in 3rd.  Grin WELL CHUFFED IS ME!!!!!  Tongue

I was watching the replay and the battles between Clive/Mike and Kruger/Lorenzo.........GREAT RACING GUYS! Very enjoyable to watch.

I'm now away until around the 15th July so good luck in the coming races and GO TEAM C 'n' B!!!!!!!!  Grin

23  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 15 Clubmans - Monza (GP 1955-71) - Jun 22 on: June 23, 2008, 09:09:17 AM +0100
Disappointing race for me overall.  :'(

I didn't manage a qually time due to the fact my brain wasn't functioning this Sunday and after watching Top Gear decided to start qually and to my shock I had 12 seconds to do a lap.  oops So in a panic got my Brab set up ready for the race without checking my pedals.

Start went ok even though the pedals were all over the place and I was wheel spinning like a mad man and going into a few turns she was locking up all over the place.  Sad This made the Brab very difficult to control and I made mistake after mistake until coming down to the last turn she locked up and I went sliding into the hedge loosing a wheel. (1st Shift-R)  Angry

Got her going again and the pedals still weren't right and after just half a lap or maybe even a full lap got it stuck in some hay bails I believe so had to do another Shift-R.  Sad Got totally P!*&ED off after the 2nd Shift-R and decided to give the pedals a work out while stationary and after that she came into life but alas it was too late to do anything about closing any gaps to anyone so just drove the crap out of it.

Very disappointed as my times in the Brab were were pretty good for possibly a mid-table to top 7 or 8 finish but lesson learnt.

Gartz to Will and podium.  Smiley

Not gonna be here a the next race as I'm away for work.

P.S. Does anyone know why GPL doesn't save my wheel and pedal settings? Every time I run GPL I have to go into settings and calibrate them as in move wheel from right to left and full motion of the pedals as well otherwise I wheel spin when accelerating and lock up when I brake? I gotta do this every time to make the car drivable.  Sad

P.P.S. Kruger 2 Shift-R's without pit stops. Should have just given up really. Sorry m8.

Sorry about tha Art, but I guess at this time of year it is somewhat inevitable that someone will be away on hols...or making up any excuse to avoid driving a BRM or Honda? lol.

lol Nah m8..I actually enjoy the BRM around Silverstone as my times will show. Smiley Not my fastest chassis but I would have driven the old war horse.  Grin
25  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: The UKGPL/GBGPL Challenge Recruitment Centre. on: June 21, 2008, 09:54:47 AM +0100
Unfortunately I'm not available on the 1st July as I'm away working from the 26th June till 15 July so you'll have to find another BRM driver Clive.  Sad Sorry m8
26  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Yes, yes.......................YES!!!!!! on: June 20, 2008, 09:23:26 AM +0100
Well done Art - I literally did shout: yes, yes YES!!!! when I checked my time (cue F1-type fist pumping etc....you get the picture).

Doing it in the Brab is impressive. How folk do it in the Coop I'll never know (my best is about 8:33).

Thanks all for your feedback - it's appreciated.

I know what you mean Steve. I didn't exactly do the pumping thing but the missus thought there was something seriously wrong when she got home as I couldn't stop grinning like a mad man...maybe she thought she was on a promise or something.  Grin

Yeah Will I think Steve has said what I was thinking.  Cool

Congrats Steve.  Smiley I got mine too about a week ago which put my rank into all greens as well and in the Brabham.  Cool (see below)

It's a great feeling though as I thought I'd never do it. lol

Well done m8.
