My local track is the Isle of Man TT course, I don't think the GPL version has been finished yet. When it is released I think we should do a race there, I'll park outside my house Smiley

I'm in Ramsey, where are you?
2  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 19 (2010) Amateurs Trophy (65) - Schottenring - Jun 1 on: June 02, 2010, 11:07:42 PM +0100
I'm glad that everyones feelings aren't totally negative towards this track now we've attempted a race here.
Though the race could be viewed as a disaster due to the number of finishers, you could easily have just as many retirements on a smaller, more crowded circuit.

For me, this one has plenty of risk / reward corners, meaning that over the course of a lap you can make, or lose lots of time, depending on how much you want to push in the race.

I think if more people learnt the track (and i was in the group that didn't fully know it) then the racing here would be improved. There was certainly enough to keep you occupied when you weren't in traffic, whereas at other circuits in can become boring plodding round on your own through a load of mickey mouse corners.

This was one of the first tracks i downloaded for GPL when i first got it a couple of years ago as i love the longer, more dangerous tracks and i'm glad that i've been forced to learn it. Its been something i've been trying to motivate myself to do for a while.

I think the Amateurs should be pushed into taking on the odd 'difficult to learn' track each season for the challenge of it. I'd rather that than yawning my way round Watkins Glen.  Wink I think that has been reflected this year with the addition of Nurburgring, Scottenring and Sachsenring to the schedule. Its almost like - think your good? Try these.

Very underrated longer circuit.  Smiley

So, Targa next season?

Suspect a hint of warp here, no firm contact on server replay (had full left lock on before the contact) and "The Ferrari lurched quite oddly to the right" on Storms client?  Submitted another incident report for the mods to sort out Sad

I think it was probably warp - didn't mean to suggest that you'd intentionally hobbled me!

Trying to be good and cautious at the start, braked early but gently, watching the mirrors, watching the sides, watching the front. A car went sideways two in front of me and I tapped the back of the fella in front. Managed to get away and was the first of the T1 numpties. A little red speck in the distance quickly turned into a lumbering sideways Ferrari. Gobbled up the time to him and settled down to follow as I didn't think much of my chances to overtake. The Ferrari spun to the left through that downhill left before the track opens up before the jump. Spotted a nice gap on the right and pressed through it but No! The Ferrari lurched quite oddly to the right and caught my wheel. I got stuck in the hedge. Real shame as I was quick enough to run with the arse end of the top 5. Hey-ho.

What's a decent time round here (ie a good lap for an average driver)?

Woo! Lotus - thank heavens!

Any chance I could be reserve for this race?

(Hello again, by the way)
8  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Gear Shifting on: December 20, 2009, 11:13:11 PM +0000

Also regarding using the shifter but staying with lfb. I have tried that but my brain must have some heavily engrained neurological connections. Every time my left arm moves the shifter my left foot tries to dip the clutch. Not very good when the left foot is actually applying the brake. Strangely my left foot braking technique is fine when using the paddles!!!

I suffer from exactly the same thing. I think when you take your hand off the wheel to shift your brain goes into "real life driving" mode.

No, but my diesed Beemer produces about the same power as 65 cars, and the power goes to the correct wheels, so that's a start  Wink
10  SimRacing In General / Grand Prix Legends / Re: Isle of Man on: November 21, 2009, 08:41:13 PM +0000
Thanks for the info. Wasn't expecting to be given a release date, but it is good to know that a) It's still being worked on and b) The chap doing it obviously cares very much and I'm sure the finished product will be extremely high standard.

If it is all I'm hoping for then he can expect a very reasonable donation. For now, back to practicing on the real thing!

Hello everyone,

Haven't been round for a long time - got bored driving round in circles and "retired" from GPL and LFS.

Anyway, interest was piqued by Targa. Immense, but I'll never learn it. However, I do know the IOM TT Course like the back of my hand as I drive part of it every day on the way to work. Does anyone have any info on how complete the full track is? I can't find an update since Sep 08 and I can't drive the short version as I keep getting suprised by how short the straights are and ending up in a hedge.

Cheers

Dave
12  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 17 (2009) Amateurs Trophy - Rouen - May 26 on: May 26, 2009, 10:38:30 PM +0100
Was looking like an interesting race, shadowing the first two and waiting for the laps to countdown until whoever it was that didn't care we were on lap 8 of 30 knocked me off the road.

Got dull after that and it was blessed relief to have my brains smashed in by a tree on the downhill section.

Just broke the habit of a lifetime and did some practice before race day. It's funny how you can blast around convinced no one on earth could possibly be that quick because you were really hanging it out only to jump out of the car, spark up your pipe and find out you're 3 seconds off the lap record and 2 seconds slower than you were last season!
14  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: Bank Holiday Fun - East London - 69 Mod - May 25 on: May 25, 2009, 10:50:27 PM +0100
Fun race. didn't expect to be that quick but after everything shook out I was in 4th and edging tenth by tenth up to the front three. I came across a McLaren on the run to the fiddly bit that must have had a problem as he slowed right infront of me and spat me onto the grass. Somehow, Evil ended up behind me and he homed in over a couple of laps then came down the inside into T1 like a cowboy with all guns blazing. He also had a couple of wheels on the grass so we had a bit of a bump. Next time he caught me I gave him the corner then found I could keep up with him but got two wheels on the grass in the fiddly bit braking zone and clunked something.

Didn't realise we could reset, but nevermind - I'd had my fun by then.
