Heartily sick of Mosport now, but I'd still like to do the race. Don't care which car - I've only driven one of the so far.

I am registered on GPLRank as Dave Southword but all those times are from years ago. I have not yet registered under my current nom de plume.

I think I was more at fault for T1 than you Will. I was surprised by your lack of speed at the start and I wondered if maybe you had a problem with the car or possibly your pedals had slipped or something. I didn’t want to pull left into the outside lane in case someone had a better start than me and was coming up on my left. At the same time if you had a bad problem I didn’t want to follow you around the corner at slow speed. In the end I tried to pass you but still leave room for anyone to the left of me. Too close unfortunately.

Anway, for some reason the server stopped scoring me halfway through the race so I didn’t really know where I was. I did have a good scrap with Will Tway and Clive Gardner early on and towards the end of the race I was catching a Honda and I guessed it was Clive and that I was still racing him. He ran a little wide going into the fast right at the end of the backstretch on the last lap and I got into the gap on the inside. I kept as tight to the inside as I could but we had a little touch and Clive spun off, which I was sorry to see but I don’t think I took him out. Apologies though if it turns out I was a lap down and that wasn’t for position.

Hristo – the replay of you passing Enge doesn’t make pleasant viewing I’m afraid.

Me me me!

Cooper probably best for me - I really like the Eagle but that would be expected to be at the front so I should take the slower car and mop up points by being steady.

By the way - how do we tell who is on which team in the race? Do we have team colour helmets?

It is what it is but NASCAR run the Busch series on the day before the Winston (Sprint) Cup for a reason.
98  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Season 16 Clubman's Cup Registration on: August 22, 2008, 09:06:16 AM +0100
I see Clubman's runs the same schedule as Division 1 but 1 week later. Perhaps it would be an idea to flip this so Clubman's is run first. People could use the Clubman's race to get up to speed in a less intense race environment. Changing them round would probably make Divison 1 more competititve through the field and also boost numbers in Clubman's. If my application for Division 1 is successful I probably wouldn't want to do Clubman's the week after, but I would if it was the week before.

Cheers

99  UKGPL / UKGPL Announcements / Re: Open test meeting 67s Sunday August 17th? on: August 18, 2008, 11:29:42 AM +0100
Good fun last night. I took the opportunity to try a couple of different cars. I used to drive the Eagle all the time so that was like slipping into an old girlfriend  Shocked . Also tried the Cooper, which went round the corners like a dream after a couple of camber tweaks. The Honda was a bit of a handful.

Are we free to choose our car for the regular season, or are there restrictions?

Really enjoyed my first online GPL race. It certainly shows that a bit of competition works wonders for your lap time as I ended up 3 seconds quicker in the race than my previous best the night before.

I managed to get a couple of cars from the start grid and was 5th early on. I had to push harder than a crack dealer to keep the top 4 in sight and for the first half of the race they were tantalisingly close but I just couldn't quite get involved. Then EvilChris crashed in Malmedy and I saw him from 200 yards away spear off to the right so I went left, then he bounced off the right hand hedge and crossed the track again. I was a bit out of shape and not had enough experience of the 65 car to know what would happen if I slammed the brakes on so I aimed as far left as possible and just got through the gap. Unfortunately I clipped Chris and he spun once more then retired. Sorry about that  :'(.

One more crash in front of me and I ended up on the podium, which was a nice surprise as I only installed GPL a few days ago after 2 years off and never driven 65 cars. I'll definitely be applying to join in next season so I hope there's a free space!

Cheers

Dave

Had a first proper go at 1965 tonight (ie using proper ratios so I could use 4th and 5th  Smiley ). Great fun.

I think if Papyrus had based the original GPL on 1965 then they would be bigger than Microsoft right now - everyone would have bought it and we would have had sequel after sequel getting bigger and better. 67 was a niche because it required patience to master.  So easy to have fun straight away in the 65 cars - it might feel like I'm pushing the limit, but I suspect that a 3.44 is no great shakes in the 33.

Nothing wrong with using real names (mine is Dave Southword btw) but I've always used that tag in LFS so I like to keep my online persona consistent.

Hi,

I'm not new to racing GPL, or racing online, but I am new to racing GPL online. I haven't touched GPL for about two years but I've been racing in Live For Speed a lot so hopefully I will be able to behave myself!

Hopefully see you on Tuesday!
