I'm new to sim racing, not sure how it has worked in the past. What were you guys planning on with the UKGTR offering? Using your own broadband lines to host races for the league? Or have you rented servers in the past and expected to do so here?
In UKGPL we were lucky enough to have our own hardware hosted by kindly individuals and organisations.
We had planned (and still plan) to rent a server for UKGTR use, but the lack of a StarForce-free dedicated server is severaly hampering that. SOme leagues are spending extorionate and unsustainable amounts on hosting as a result.
My greatest concern in all of this though is the speedbug. It isn't addressed now a whole 4 patches in and I'm just wondering whether this is because it is unfixable.
Well, so far I don't think we've seen it at all in any Season 0 or fun races. Drivers just need to be honest and not attempt to benefit from it - I'll draft something for the rules. My understanding is that if you experience the "speedbug", you
will know it - it's not like you can accidently, unknowingly win a race using it.
Would be interesting to conduct a proper study to find out just how frequently it occurs and try and narrow down the circumstances which cause it.
I suspect it's "unfixibility" is largely down to the developers not having full access to and understanding of the game engine they're using. But I'm speculating.
