I caught Fulvio and I started to think about how I might get past when he spun in front of me. I managed to slow enough to avoid heavy contact but then I got rear ended and my car was catapulted into the air. Luckily it landed on its wheels and I could continue. However it became obvious all was not well. The car was crabbing on the straights and was prone to oversteer on the left handers. Judging by the tyre temps I suspected a left rear puncture. Anyway with 12 laps to go I decided to try to make it to the finish. I only got lapped by Clive and I made sure I was well out of the way when he sailed past.
Sorry Phil, I had just lifted to avoid to rear end Doni accelerating, he was faster on the straighs but a bit slower out of turns, and when pressed gas again the car was unstable and slided. I was lucky there, sorry to HH too that was following us. Anyway a nice battle with Doni tail to pipe on almost every turn.

I had a comfortable gap to Fulvio which I was able to manage over the last few laps as he was fighting with this other guy. But then Tom came into play, for whom I opened all the barn doors for almost half a lap expecting he will pass quickly and and I can go on, but he didn't (couldn't) use the opportunities until I was completely out of rhythm and hit the grass... I hadn't seen the action Fulvio had commited out of the hairpin, so was wondering what was going on. I had seen blue flags and had to let Tom by... What really p..d me were the comments after the race from people not understanding what had happened. I waited to comment until I had talked to Tom and understood how it went. Axel I understand that Germans don't like Italians, it's a long story and I can't blame you , but please watch our 40 and 41 laps while Tom was reaching us to lap and tell me what I did wrong. I hadn' understand well Tom's comment, but I think Tom had mistaken our names. I was a spectator behind you and Tom on the last turn and even Dimi catched us in the meanwhile. I aplogize for my comment after the race that was caused by your rejoin after you hitted grass and we were side by side before the fast kink. I had to move right to avoid you but you came on me cutting the track and I spun badly loosing two spots on Dimi and Phil. I ask apologize to Phil for my bad rejoin that collected him, but he could restart ahead of me and we had again a nice battle after the previous battle till he had spun many laps before. At the end of the race I was without force in my seventh decade

Mercedes touched me in turn three on the first lap, I think he could have expected to pass me on the straight with that car, my Ferrari was out of alignment and I was losing ground to Doni. 45 laps alone in Indy, I preferred to quit and watch TV.
Sorry Claudio, I was well on your inside along the white line and you could watch me on your left well before the turn. Internet didn't help too.

I am sorry for the mass crash at the start, it was my mistake. But isn't it gonna be good if there are people not starting 1-2 seconds after the green flag? What was I supposed to do? To decrease the pace? That sounds ridiculous as well. I am a racing driver and of course I will go for the gap.
Dimitar you have done the same manouvre as me at '55 race at East London. I was more lucky there and caused less damage, but I was more guilty cause I have been racing online with GPL since early days with 33k modems in '99 and I know well what are the limits of a 25 years old online code. You have good experience of others sim-racer where you can swap paints without many problems, like GTL i.e., but with GPL it'is a no no, so we can take experience from this and move on

I got a decent start and as we approach T1 I had Tom on my outside. I wanted to give him plenty of room in case he took the racing line so I tried to hug the kerb. Foolishly I got too close and the fly-paper style grass caught me. I was spun off across the track and unfortunately Fulvio could not avoid me. Very sorry Fulvio, hopefully it didn't ruin your race. You still managed a good result. After that it was a matter of trying to stay focussed whilst I had a good battle with Bob. I managed to stay ahead of Bob but I made too many mistakes and almost got pipped by Doni at the end in the pedestrian BT14 (a brave choice but very cheap on tokens ). The Ferrari was slow but it is a rocket ship compared to the BT14. No problem Phil, I confess that at the moment I sent a bad word to you , caught in the sand I restarted dead last, but I managed to avoid the sticky curbs and slowly I passed some cars caught in the sand and had a great battle with Andreas and Enrique that in the end made an error to much. @Andrea, why did you slowed and let me by towards the end of the race?

Well now... That started off a bit ghastly but ultimately turned into a ripper of a race. Qualifying went reasonably well if a bit congested at times and I had to be content with a lap a full second off my previous best in the Chaparral. We actually got a clean roller start! Take a bow, guys. Coming off T6 on Lap01, the race was on and I gassed it up to T7 with Fulvio in close company. There, I suddenly found cars going very slowly indeed and I went left to miss them but collided with Alain's Lola to spin to dead last. Turns out that Phil had bunted Pete and caused a bit of a drama. Picking up the pieces, I pressed on passing a few cars til I ended up some six seconds down on Fulvio on Lap08. Over many a lap to follow, I slowly whittled away the margin as he was having a fierce duel with Alain. It wasn't until about Lap18 that I actually got a whiff of his slipstream as the gap was now down to all of two seconds. Lap19 and a major development as Alain got the Lola well out of shape entering T9 and Fulvio slipped by for the place. I was close enough to get position on Alain for T1 and scampered by to follow Fulvio. A hard lap for Alain. It almost looked like Alain backed out of it and voluntarily gave me the place. Perhaps his tyres were cooked. This left me close to Fulvio with Alain not that far behind. A good trio having at it with seven laps to run. Following Fulvio onto the back straight, he could out-pull me coming off T8 but I could close further along the straight. Clearly, he was sporting a bottom gear lower than I. My 1st gear was substantially taller which let me run from T9 all the way to T8. Comes Lap22 and I'm close enough exiting T8 to catch a good tow on the back straight and I position off Fulvio's right. I was surprised in that I think Fulvio got out of the throttle early and I surged by going into T9. I wasn't really making a serious bid but one musn't look a gift horse in the mouth, right? We rounded T9 virtually side-by-side and in the run down to T1, my taller first gear paid dividends as I maintained the place. Alain had fallen back a couple of seconds but was still in the mix. Fulvio made an easy pass on the back straight on Lap23 and I could hear the fat lady warming up in the wings. To start Lap26, a mere 1-1/2 seconds spanned the time between Fulvio and Alain with me the filling in the sandwich. Sadly for Alain, his threat evaporated with a spin in T1 on this lap. In many cases like this in a close battle with someone of equal performance, I would ask myself, 'What would Fulvio do?' Knowing that he is the cleanest and safest of GPL pilots, the last thing in the world I would want to do is bungle a pass attempt and shunt him off. Coming off T8 for the last time, I was really close to Fulvio this time and got a fine tow. I took up position on Fulvio's right and breezed by into T9. My Chaparral ran very slightly high and I feared that Fulvio might get position on me in the run to the flag but no, he came up just 1/10 of a second down. Fabulous race! Great job, Fulvio! I scored this one 4/5 over at GPLWeekly. Some terrific battles up and down the field not least of which was for the lead. Only resolved by a massive shunt by Clive in the late laps. Bad luck there, mate. Yannick fully deserved of the win. Nice turn out of entries, chaps. Thx Doni, it was a pleasure to race with you.
