Minor contact down into turn 3 of the first lap meant having to join the back of the field. I don’t usually have issues with tyre temperatures but the fronts were firmly in the red from about lap 3 onward. As Phil says this does degrade the grip & cost me 2 - 3 seconds on the lap time I could manage on cooler tyres. I didn’t have a problem staying on track & picked up several places due to others retiring on spinning off. Last few laps were very close with Fancesco. I suspect he could have gone faster but this is not the easiest track to pass on.

Assume free choice of chariot?

Should be able to participate in this one.

No worries David. I watched the football until half time then jumped on the server to put in a quick qualifying lap. After the incident I needed a reset & was in last place by 500 meters. I decided to retire the car & watch the end of the football - which was a good result for me.
The car allocation with the 68s is interesting as it means the Privateer drivers have enough car advantage to compete against some of the Works drivers.
Boreham is a fun track & I would have stayed longer on any other day.

Unfortunately will miss the last race of the season.

I have a work meeting on Monday meaning I have to travel Sunday. Ironically I will be in France - not Rouen, but close enough.

Double shame because I have a pile of unused tokens.

Good luck to the runners - especially the Black Night Racers.

It transpires that hoovering my pedals to clear a build up of dust & dog hair was only a temporary fix. I decided to remove the back plate to clean the insides thoroughly. Now they are not working at all.
I will sit out racing until I can source a replacement.
I did try a lap by reassigning the throttle & brake to buttons but that requires a completely different type of co-ordination.

Something was seriously amiss with the car. The acceleration was a dog (Dachshund not a Greyhound). I spent all qualifying trying to find the right gearing  when what was actually needed was 20 seconds blasting the pedals with a vacuum cleaner. Quite relieved because I thought it might have been a rather more complicated fix.

Just too far off the pace to take part.

Pete, your name is on it but it's hiding somewhere in the removal boxes.
I will drop you a PM when it resurfaces.
25  UKGPL / General / Logitech H Shifter on: October 11, 2023, 09:57:18 PM +0100
Moving house next week.

Under orders from Mrs Nobrakes to dispose of things we no longer need.

I have a unused Logitech G27 H shifter. Never managed to wean myself off of paddles & using Thrustmaster hardware these days.

It is free to a good (or bad) home.

David,
That was not intended as a complaint.
What I should have said it is beyond my skill level for the amount time I can commit to practice.
We are moving house the week after so I shall probably spend Sunday evening packing boxes.

Just had a look around Dundrod for the 67 race. There was a mid-season fun race here in the 65 cars - which was tricky, but tolerable. In the 67 cars it is ridiculous. Will sit this one out & catch up at Mexico.
28  UKGPL / UKGPL Races / Re: UKGPL Season 43 (Autumn 2023) 1967 F1 (Privateers) - Kyalami - Oct 1 on: October 05, 2023, 11:31:00 AM +0100
I would like to apologize for my driving style and want to try to do better in the next race.  At the moment I still lack some experience in racing with the 67 mod. I also hope that next season I will drive in the 65 mod again, it suits me much better.
Kai, I started GPL with the 65 cars. I can remember my first experiment with a 67 Cooper at Silverstone - like trying to control a wild horse in a rodeo.  The 67 cars handle very differently but you will find with more practice that it soon becomes more natural. Having tried all the mods my favourite is the originals 67's (except the Honda & the BRM!).

I didn't expect so many retirements or to finish on the podium.
I'm usually the backmarker - not very often I have to worry about lapping cars. Personally, on the occasions I passed cars they did not cause me any problems & they were generally co-operative.
I suspect Dave C or Eric would have taken the win had they lasted full race distance. Well done to Fran & Mikos. As the old saying goes to finish first, first you have to finish.

Always good to have a full grid, with Kai & Rich making a comeback tp GPL & welcome to Cubbie, our newest driver.

Needed a little lot more practice. Too easy too overcook it on the entry to several corners. Managed 20 laps on track but went for on an early exit when I started making mistakes.
